I just got TF2 on PS4 and I'm a filthy slow. I'm abysmal on multiplayer. I MIGHT come in second to last place on my team. My team is always the losing one.

Any tips? What control scheme would you guys suggest? I want to like this game, but I just suck. I try to stay moving and wall running, but eh. Seems like I can't aim worth a shit either.

Evolved is the best control scheme for going fast imo
It's only drawback is that melee is taken off the right stick and moved to a face button, so pulling off high speed dick kicks is considerably harder
I work around it by swapping the O and R1 buttons so I have melee, jump and shoot all on the shoulder buttons, but you should experiment and see what works for you

Can't post a pic since I'm on Xbone and I just started Friday, but so far I enjoy the Grappling and Boost
I primarily use the L-STAR when I'm not leveling the default gear and unlocking stuff.
My favorite titan so far is easily Scorch, I love putting a gas pod behind enemy titans so they kneejerk backdash right into my lake of thermite.

I'd mention at least these 2 things since some people may not know:

1) Reeling someone in results in an auto-melee. The opponent can melee you first, but it can't be easy because that's only ever happened to me once.
2) If the opponent runs into your grapple wire, they automatically get caught.

Again, it's best used against unsuspecting pilots and it's best to think of it as a way of extending the range of your normal melee. But having a mid-range OHKO in your pocket can be a handy to have. So long as the wire hits, it's a fairly safe kill.

And it's fun to do.

Loadouts themselves essentially NEED to reset when you regen since you might have items equipped that you haven't bought with credits, or even the loadout slot itself might be locked. I'm sure there are other workarounds for this that Respawn could have implemented, but it was probably a hundred man-hours less to just have them go back to default.

Depends usually on what time of day you play is what I've found. Early morning and late evening is when I tend to lose a lot of matches solo queuing. Roll with TFG when you can, and if you can't try and play between 3-6 PST (or whatever time is most active on your platform of choice).

This. I get that pilots net you more score per minute than running around wiping grunts, but you can't outright ignore them. Especially if you aren't that good at killing pilots. If you get dunked on, take out a few grunts or something when you spawn and add to your score and your titan build, that way you aren't being a complete detriment to the team.

Sure thing kid. The easiest fix would be to just switch the particle wall boost and the amped wall. Then the ability turns into a defensive move that isn't overpowered and the boost is useful on offense.

Exactly, I just started recently so I'll admit I'm no good at PvP yet, but at least I played enough of 1 to know that if a drop pod lands right in front of you and you've got a full mag, you spray that pod for the quick 4-5 points. Takes 5 seconds and you get a good chuck of Titan drop time knocked off.

Ronin is harder to play than most of the others, but it beats any titan in a 1 vs 1, and ideally when there are multiple enemy titans you are flanking, so you can usually take four bars of heath of of something before they start engaging you. It's not too bad at engaging multiple titans at once too, if you are good enough at blocking and dodging.

Honestly any Titan can kick the shit out of other Titans. Northstar is actually not the most survivable, considering she's the only one who's defensive ability doesn't straight up negate damage.

Ronin can melt other titans if he can get the drop on them, or with some fancy footwork. Plus a no cooldown block is pretty good,

The entire purpose of Ronin is that it's a flanking 1v1 king. Their only real weakness is multiple titans focusing them down because otherwise it shits damage and arc wave/phase dash throws off their aim too much. Sword block being the strongest defensive ability in the game other than flame shield helps.

well, from my gameplay experience, I honestly leave the titan on autopilot since I found just running around killing pilots (maybe not in attrition, but definitely in hard points 100% I'm never in my titan) more fun + more points

I guess I'm not getting titan gameplay as it takes way too long to kill another Titan and plus if you ever get in a 2v1 you're pretty much guaranteed to lose. I said Northstar is more survivable because I just go extra dash and just pick off from afar and the other titans usually can't do anything.

I'd recommend Overcore. You start with smoke enabled, and if you have a backup battery you start at 50% core charge. It only takes 5 shotgun shots after that or 4 shotgun + 1 melee to unlock the sword core.

I've left my enhanced legion guarding a flag before and he tends to net a few kills here and there, and some good saves while I'm running around. Obviously not as many as if I was piloting, and he got wiped pretty hard when enemy titans showed up, but if it's CTF, he's the only titan down, and I can just leave him on defense while I run flag, why not?

What areas pose the most threat to you based on your understanding of enemy + friendly positions, their distance from you, their weapons / abilities, map geometry, etc.
Learn how to position / move in a way that lets you check behind / to your sides while reducing risk to yourself.

Be able to aim. Can't help you with this one.

Be able to dodge enemy fire. You need to be able to produce unpredictable side to side and vertical movement. (Parabolic arcs produced from something like a simple full jump are not unpredictable)

Be aware of both your own and the opponents health + weapon + ammo + tactical ability + ordnance + etc. status. Ties into General Awareness.

Recognise and produce Advantage / Disadvantage in positioning


- "Decision making"
If + when + how to engage / disengage.

e.g. You just sprinted around a corner and are caught off guard by an enemy pilot at midrange, lower body behind cover, looking directly at you.
This is not a good fight - you have to recognise this VERY QUICKLY and start disengaging.


- Movement
Being able to go where your decision making wants you to go.

It totally is, my man. As a Ronin main, I can block a nuke, but not a railgun shot from that Northstar across the map.

You can even block the damage from you telefragging yourself. It'll still almost one shot you, but you'll live if you're at full health.

Now might there be some niche things that are also unblockable? Maybe. But as far as what you will see on a regular basis, only the railgun will pierce your block.

just tried him earlier and he fucking blows ass unless you can get a flank

I think you're suppose to only play him as a flanker. He counter balances Ronin because he functions in the same role. Both are CQC kings and deadly when flanking. Ronin rules the playground in open spaces while Scorch wrecks in tight spaces.

Give the grenade launcher some extra splash on top of its giant hitbox

Now you're just strawmanning.


Scorch is fucking incredible when played correctly. The only issue is that countering him involve baiting poor behavior from baddies or simply avoiding it entirely outside of 2v1 situations. A smart Scorch won't trade damage with you like a retard. I usually pop out from cover to tag hits with the thermite launcher when at mid/long and keep the canisters and firewall for repelling greedy pushes. Scorch with Emergency Battery and the Enhanced Spicyfinger is a fucking beast you can only really answer by avoiding. Sometimes I just play recklessly and rush people down with that setup and I manage to take down 1-2 titans even when doing idiotic charges away from cover.

It looks like someone is butthurt because they suck at playing scorch. He's not the most powerful titan in the game and nor is he effortless. He has a niche that he does really well and takes some effort to learn. If you like easy go play Tone.

I don't know what this guy is smoking because
-He's the best for farming. One single show from his launcher will kill everything coming out of a pod no problem
-I think he means figuratively, because you can take a 2/3 bar health if you land your shot in the glowing red areas
-He is pretty vulnerable to pilots going fast, but almost all titan weapons make you stand still to fire them. Thermite has a huge hitbox so try not to miss...
- don't fight people in the open and you're gold. Titans can do all that invasive shit they want, but if you have them in tight spot you're going to win

I wouldn't argue against a reduced cooldown, increase aoe or letting fire travel over obstacles, but everything else on that list is not needed. Hit box is fine and you should be able to learn the arc if you're not a complete shitter.

Scorch is actually overpowered. He has a few short comings, yeah, but overall his design is bullshit. He's way too good at both area of effect damage and DPS vs a single target. In the late game, when there's big, confusing titan fights going on, it's impossible for him to lose. He'll just walk into the melee with his bullshit damage auras and melt everyone's health in seconds. On paper he's slow and his range is too short, but in the real world you're rarely going to engage Scorch at the perfect distance and kill him before he closes in on you and your team.

Pretty much all the "weaknesses" of Scorch can be solved by using his primary weapon a little more often. The thermite launcher is surprisingly good at killing pilots on rooftops and through windows. The range on it is rarely an issue either.

it's not easy but it's not too hard since the projectile gets pretty big after some distance; once you learn to lead the shot consistently it's pretty easy

Earlier today I faced an entire team of guys who all had Kevin Spacey related gamertags. Either a variation of his name or one of his characters. One guy was something like Spaceyy, another was KaiserSoSay, Kpaxxie etc. It was kind of awesome.

I play Ronin in attrition, and I don't think that it is fun to fight pilots because they are too easy, so I usually ignore them and search for more titans. Its not as bad as it sounds, because I usually end up with 5-7 titan kills per match.

I honestly would never touch Ion if she didn't have her laser shot. Vortex shield feels unreliable, traps are super easy to destroy, splinter rifle needs me to be in your face to work, AND I can only really use one ability at a time.

Traps are something you lay down to cut off lanes of approach from pilots/counter pilots in buildings, drop on fresh titans in dome, or on aggressive titans chasing you. Zero-Point Tripwire makes it cost no energy and you can deploy it while shooting the other titan in the face. They either walk through it or have to delay/shift their chase. Gives you more time to drop lasers in their face.

Each shot of the laser means less of vortex.

Ion can either be 100% defensive or 100% aggressive, there is no in-between.

Usually it's better to just spam tripwires while running away with +dash, since tone and ronin can fuck your shit up so hard.
