if you rodeo a lot then its definitely not worth giving up for hover. i dont rodeo much, not with grenadier weapons anyway, so i have no problem giving up low profile.
i dont think its the "secret", you can definitely get by fine without hover. the cold war isnt much different than any other weapon; youll get good with it the more you practice and play. hover can help though, as long as you dont use it like a dummy. it can provide a stable platform to fire from above when otherwise you wouldnt have that opportunity.

as for grapple, i dont think its that great for grenadier weapons. it has its purposes and a lot of tricks and things you can do with it if you take the time to master grapple, but the biggest problem i found was that it was too slow. trying to use it for vertical movement usually got me killed, it just didnt pull me up fast enough.
thats just my take though, and im not the best player, just average.

I have Prime Scorch, and it's pretty fucking cool. The voice isn't too different but that execute makes it all worthwhile. Then again I have Scorch at like 8.7. I'd say it's worth it if you wanna support the game/really like the design.

It's useful, more useful than people give it credit for.
Playing Scorch like a Bombadier/mortar type character is fun and moar thermite lets you cover a lot of ground for area denial of grunts and pilots and titans alike.

Waht most people don't realize is that the spots where theremite hits add their own layer of damage on top of that of the gas canisters.

I haven't used Scorch in a while so I honestly can't say if there's some discrepancy with the hitbox on flame trap. I just know that it does plenty of damage if the enemy is stuck in the aoe. May what you're seeing is enemies dashing out the flame traps or avoiding them. If an enemy titan only dips his big toe into the flames for a millisecond, it won't do that much damage.

Rodeoing is pretty reliable if you run phase shift to get the battery marker on you and make your escape, or if the Titan is in a fight with one of yours.

Also, any Rodeo damage will kill a doomed Titan, be it pulling the battery or shoving a grenade down their exhaust port.

I don't play northstar, but 90% of the time I watch them die almost as soon as they use the core. It has uses, but at the end of the day it is a shitty tone core that puts you at risk more than any of the other cores.

I think I should elaborate then.
Northstar's core isn't really that good even in the right hands, but it's still certainly has its uses.
The primary use of Northstar's core is to finish off dying enemies, since the height it puts you at makes you vulnerable to enemies who aren't scared to trade damage with flight core.
Instead, use core at the same time you're using VTOL and flight core will activate barely above the ground, which is good for LTS.

People won't get upset unless your team also loses the match, in which case they'll get really upset.
If you're having such a hard time getting pilot kills, try going for grunts instead.
Since you're new to FPS, you might want to pick up on strafing while firing first.
If you can get above 50 or 75 points in attrition, you aren't anchoring.

Getting 50 points or higher in an attrition match is enough for me to not hate you
If you're struggling, grind away at the AI in modes that have them; they'll earn points and help out the team more than you'd expect.

For real though, don't worry about it. As others will say, the most important thing is having fun. Team up with some people if you can, and just have a blast, regardless of your score.

Ion is a by the books team player kinda girl. How you play depends a lot on how your opponent plays.
