Previous thread:>>166541374

The thread is dedicated to all games about building machines and systems out of blocks, in space or otherwise. Also, all these games are ded. Only ded games may join, otherwise they must have their own thread.
Whether or not a game belongs in /egg/ is a case by case matter, however games that would belong in /svgg/, space voxel games general, are automatically considered /egg/

WebM for retards:
>gitgud.io/nixx/WebMConverter.git

List of currently known and vaguely not dead /egg/ games (this list is not fully inclusive and if you think a game might belong here, feel free to ask):
>Algodoo
>Avorion
>Besiege
>Chode - Children of Ded Earf
>Empyrion - Galactic Survival
>Factorio
>From the Depths
>Homebrew - Vehicle Sandbox
>Infinifactory
>Intersteller Rift
>KOHCTPYKTOP: Engineer of the People
>Machinecraft
>REM
>Robocraft
>Robot Arena 2
>Scrap Mechanic
>SHENZEN I/O
>Space Engineers
>SpaceChem
>StarMade

Games that are definitely not /egg/:
>Minecraft
>The general that quite literally cannot be named. The Mexican scam artist one. With the shitposters. Fuck off.
>Hearthstone, found in the hearthstone general, /hsg/, not in this general.

Information about these games, such as where to get them if they're not on steam, trailers, /egg/ conquered/hosted servers, and other shit can be found in this pad:

Planet based logistics in an RTS type view using established shipping routes and factories with water based NPC pirates preying on cargo ships, supplying resources to a spaceport construction facility where individual blocks are created ground up from physical and electrical connections that can be manipulated mechanically, hydraulically or electrically (with computers you have to construct yourself) with rare higher end materials in asteroid belts in the outer solar system.

>"Dare you enter my autistic realm?" scenario
Voxel building game with detailed atmospheric simulation and soft body physics, various materials with simulated properties and building system that makes use of it, allowing players to create many things with various unintended effects like spontaneous nuclear fission, but not confining them to simple forms like cubes and wedges, allowing creation of various curves.
Set in a universe mostly conforming to laws of physics, with instanced systems and procedurally-generated void sectors. Populated with both naturally evolved and player-created organisms, consisting of various parts and organs, with programmed chemical reactions happening inside, all defined through it's genetic code.
Next to nothing is hardcoded and everything is highly modular, allowing unprecedented moddability.

>Send ship to asteroid belt because need resources for planet
>trip takes months
>Time warp to destination
>Planet bases go to complete shit because left unattended for game-months
Alternatively
>Send ship to asteroid belt because need resources for planet
>trip takes months
>Let the ship go while you take care of bases
>Can't do shit on land for months because you are waiting for ship to come back
>Forced to spend hours housekeeping your base

Doesn't seem like fun desu
You can't really have a complete experience both in space and on land, so in your game you would have to completely automate the space business and probably even assume it takes advantage of FTL travel so you don't have to wait forever or you would have to oversimplify things on land so you can enjoy the space stuff.
You can't really have both, the time scales are too different if you want to make stuff remotely realistic

I know it's not what most /egg/men are looking for but I'd like to see a fantasy setting engineering game, with real-world laws aside from basic newtonian physics replaced with a semi-randomized magic system. Instead of reading up on the most efficient ways of creating the machine you want you'd have to discover how the particular world functions and then build around it.
For example you might want to make a self-powered, controllable car to ride. But instead of picking from a list of preset engine parts to make your cart move, you might want to research if you'd get more power by confining a tornado spirit into an axle or chaining up some reanimated owls and telling them to start turning their heads.

Non-minecrap Thaumcraft-like fantasy /egg/ game when?
Is it still /egg/ if it's fantasy? Granted, magic means some serious fuckery with laws of physics, but aside from that, you'd still have engineering problems in need of a solution. Whether technological or magical.

I reall, really reall want an MMORTSRPG Engineering, Survival and City Building game in a procedural post-apocalyptic world full of zombies:

-The world starts with some procedural communities with NPC survivors, which can in turn create more communities.

-NPCs can starve, and any dead NPC becomes a zombie.

-Players possess a random, pre-existing NPC somewhere safe, and are no diferent than NPCs other than being human controlled; you won't magically know the name of someone you meet, you'll have to assign them a name based on what you're told; expect liars, and players pretending to be NPCs.

-Food and resources are scarce, so you have to trade or even raid other communities. Alternatively, you can go full treasure hunter on a nearby zombie infested city or destroyed community.

-You'll need some logistics on that commerce, start on escort missions for caravans, end up going full OTTD with trucks, trains, ships and planes.

-Wether you're making love or war you'll need to design weapons, engines, vehicles and shit, so you've got to ake items out of other items with variables that could be modified.

-Created the design, now you need the factory: think Factorio, but every assembler is Infinifactory inside, and survivors can work as your bots, arms, basic assemblers, etc. Expect survivors to ask for payment.

-As communities grow and are successful, they'll get immigrants and population booms, time to leave Dwarf Fortress behind and go full SimCity. That is, assuming they even listen to you of course; hopefully you've played enough Tropico.

(cont.)
>>
>>166814853

-Buildings don't spring up just like that either, so you've gotta design them too. Same goes for the electric network, and the communications network.

-As NPC and player driven alliances between communities grow, nations appear and you can go full politics, espionage and infowars, stealing other player's designs. Become James Bond, slayer of Donut Steel.

-Nascent civilization allows for larger armies, and full on large scale RTS: Macro beats micro but requires strong logistics, while micro can be used to beat the logistics and thus macro. You've got to be extra careful, since this'll generate a lot of corpses, and thus zombies to deal with.

-The endgame is to find the seven macguffins that can be assembled into an artifact that can be used either to mindcontrol an increasingly large number of zombies as you waste increasingly large ammounts of resources on it; if you reduce the resources used, the zombies over your control limit will attempt to destroy the artifact; be extremely vigilant of your supply lines.

-Alternatively, the artifact can be used to lift the zombie curse, thus ending the game and restarting everything; expect wars on how the artifact should be used, or even wether it should be assembled at all.

>What would it look like if kerbniggers infiltrated and tainted the project?
The game wouldn't happen at all. Not like it'd happen if they didn't infiltrate, either.

I thought of an idea for a survival game at one point, it's not /egg/ though. It'd be the most realistic human biology simulator ever made, put inside of a very realistic ballistics simulator in a post-nuclear world. Every single internal organ, muscle group, bone, and major blood vessel would be simulated. You might try to execute somebody with a forehead shot and have it bounce back and kill you instead (only lower powered handgun rounds obviously), or shoot someone in the balls and make them sterile. This is of course backed by an advanced medical system, you could use hemostats to close an artery, suture them back together, and then clean and bandage it. Your medical skills would be greatly reduced on yourself due to pain, so it's best to not get shot.

There'd also be very advanced food, calories, macronutrients, and every micronutrient is required. To make eating less of a hassle, eating everything in one big meal at the start of the day is acceptable, and you can even set up a system to automatically buy and eat food and any vitamins you might need every time you sleep in a city.

In addition to that, it'd need really fucking good AI with realistic responses to combat. Some might freeze up, others might shit themselves and spray bullets everywhere, some might not be able to shoot at all, whereas elite soldiers will never hesitate and instantly go for cover when shot at.

>>
>>166816739
I think you're misinterpreting this slightly. There were multiple assailants. IMO the person who pulled the trigger and the person who died were no the same person. A glancing ricohet is believable but not a bullet doing a 180 and killing the shooter.
>>
>>166816881
It didn't say that the guy who died was the shooter, and it did mention that another guy might've been the shooter. Still, if a guy is on his knees and the bullet hits at an angle it could bounce off, hit you in the foot and kill you from infection a few weeks later.

Fuck ballistics, what about melee?
What about engineering our own power armour?
>>
>>166814905
>>166814853
The only problem I see with this one is that it can't really be MMO as there wouldn't be a fair way for new players starting in a shitty empty settlement to compete with other people who have OTTD-levels of logistic networks and economies.

It would be good as a single player game or, alternatively, a server based game where everyone starts at the same time and no new players are allowed to enter as long as the game is not restarded
>>
>>166817389
There'd be melee too of course, power armor is a bit outside the tech level of the game but I'd try to include exoskeletons if possible. You could engineer those yourself, from slow abominations made out of washing machine motors and rebar to military grade shit that's mostly found under heavy guard or in forgotten bunkers with automated defenses. In general there wouldn't be much futuristic stuff, maybe a non-lethal microwave gun or blinding laser rifles.

Christ. I fucked up /egg/

When playing Abortion I'd always crash when I looked at, was near, or sometimes just in the same sector as any semi-large scale battle (essentially any faction invasion), but for some fucking reason, like a god damn retard I decided to look at the battle.

I crashed instantly and now can't open my save file any more because it crashes before I can even fully load in.

I had 30 hours in that save file.
I had defeated two bosses and made over 10 million dollars and was finally on the high road to success in that save file.

EVE seems to work. Every few years or so one of those empires falls and a power vacuum develops that allows for new power players. When the Goon Empire fell there was a massive portion of the galaxy now free to be taken by anyone.
>>
>>166820472
I turned down and disabled the last of my options and disabled damage numbers.

So, I kept doing that until I'd inched myself to and through a nearby gate.

Abortion universe doesn't seem to have any kind of teleportation technology. Space-time warp, wormholes, hyperspace, but no teleportation. So if you want to transfer something between ships and stations, naturally you have to dock, or at least get close enough so the drones will do the hauling.
>>
>>166820831
Yes but EVE is a completely different game than what you described.
EVE focuses more on the RPG element and the economy, there is no base building, no ship building except for the combination of modules and weapons you have available (the shape and base features remain the same), no classic RTS elements and most of what you listed is completely absent from EVE.

Although I see some similarities, I don't think it's fair to compare the two.

In EVE you have ships and that's it, while in your game you have ships, bases, defenses and whatnot that make the technological gap between new and old player much more relevant.

I'm not even sure if it's pro or anti trump. I guess since they made the dick-rockets so tiny it's supposed to be anti-trump? It kind of backfired for me though because the idea of trump crushing beaners in a giant mech is hillarious and gets me hard.

ships have infinite fuel capacity. I should be able to trade with anything in the sector remotely.

There has been basebuilding for over a decade. Member Titans? You needed RETARDED infrastructure to build even one. Having more than five, no matter the size of your faction, was considered an insane investment. The Russians had 20 in 2006.
>>
I noticed that titanium crew quarters have the same amount of extra crew as iron (which is logical). Besides the additional hit points, do more expensive materials perform better? Like generators give more power for the same size?

I know new blocks and functions are unlocked at higher tiers, but do existing ones get better?
>>
>>166825449
Titanium is the lightest if I remember correctly so that should give you less mass for the same space.
Generators are better the better the material you use. Same with shield gens and hyperdrives. Not sure about thrusters.

You're not replying to the actual ideaguy (me) but you're kinda right it could suck.

Then again, you are a survivor, not a metaphysical entity, so you could use the OTTD logistics and migrate to the big city, assuming you didn't possess an NPC at the big city when you spawned. There being GUIs that'd facilitate the RTS, politics and and design side of things doesn't mean you're bound to a place. You could emigrate further away into uncivilized areas to try and grow, even go full secesionist revolutionaire.

And, hell, big empires have big death tolls, even for natural causes; a well placed strike could very well end up in a city falling to zombie uprising, so it'd be hard for big berthas to grow big.
...Which would give rise the issue of griefers just going out to kill any NPC they see to start a zombie downfall. Not sure how I'd go about fixing that, but preventing such a possibility is right out.

The real issue would be metacomms, ss13 already battles that issue, and it's in a WAY smaller game area way easier to monitorize for clues. Lots of dreams, and lots of issues that make the dream impossible, unless I somehow went full SAO and kidnapped the players' minds and my servers were powered on elven mayjjicks and unicorn pee

I wanted to make an RTS space flight sim.
You have a map view of your planetary system and ships flying around. each spacecraft has a mission assigned which it executes on its own (no manual flight). missions must be fully specified before launch, including maneuvers, docking, landing, etc. precision of maneuvers, how much fuel they take and risk of accidents depend on crew experience/AI quality (of the on board computer)
you can build space stations docking multiple crafts together, for planetary bases you can use landed spacecraft, including reusing their empty fuel tanks, and build new structures from planetary materials (space mudhuts?)
You can mine valuable materials and return them to your planet for profit, you can also build in space so you dont have to launch from your planet.
Of course, bases and space stations need to be supplied, and their crews rotated, etc, etc

Actually I had started making it, managed to get a solar system model running, even got spaceships flying (but with no missions or AI, just orbiting)
I was using multiple body calculation for their trajectories (kepler celestial mechanics for the planets), but this slowed the calculations too much, especially for multi year long trajectories.
Then I tried to change to patched conics, but couldnt figure out the math, then I realized Im dumber than the mexican monkeys and abandoned it.

pic related is a screenshot, you can see the inner solar system and jupiter, no spaceship because I removed the ones I had before trying to make patched conics
I forgot I still had this sourcecode

I wanted to make an insect leg flier, but I quit before insect legs were introduced, and so when I came back last week, I didn't have any.

Thought, what can I do to make a quick, maneuverable sniper?

A giant mech leg! It looks silly but it works great. I can maneuver on clifftops quickly and easily.

The 6 jet engines are only 108 CPU, vs the two blue propellers I have. They're working great; I can jump with my mech leg, and I'll have enough thrust to start flying before I even start descending from the jump. All I have to do is turn to my objective, jump and hold down w. I think I can climb nearly vertical.

Landing is the hard part; I've never flown before so I'm still getting the hang of it. My strategy is to nose-dive into where I want to land, since if I go for a nicer, shallower landing angle, I ususally just miss the small landing spots completely.

I was having a problem with turning while flying until I added two more downwards-facing rudders; now handling is great.

The whole machine weighs under 6k, and the 6 Eagle wings provide just over 6k lift capacity.

I'm running 7 of the 2nd lowest tier rails; I can snipe non-stop and they do enough damage to kill (noticeable more than the green rails).

The overall goal of this craft was to be a supporting sniper that can *quickly* get to places, so that maneuvering to a more strategically desirable spot as my team moves is "cheap".

I made it with only what I had (plus what I earned from crates in the last two weeks), and am surprised and pleased with its performance

I'll take any advice

Why even bother with the careful mission planning if you are not going to fly the ship yourself?

I know it shouldn't be named, but in this case KSP can be used as a comparison.
Part of the fun of the game is both planning and flying the stuff yourself and you can even manage to have multiple stuff flying at once if you are careful with the timing.

Giving the player only the planning part takes away a good chunk of th fun IMO.
Your idea seems cool, but this whole plan and don't fly thing has the potential to become super boring after a while, especially if you plan on making the thing complex and go all grand-strategy on it with dozens if not hundreds of ships flying together.

A system more similar to Aurora, that forgoes orbital mechanics completely in favour of a much deeper strategy, makes more sense to me.

Sucks that you abandoned the project.

just brainstorming on the possibility of a bioclang fighting game

what would you prefer?

-sopre way:
you start with a root creature part (skull?) and add organs to build the body
pros: freeform creatures! put organs anywhere you like, attack of the penis monsters
cons: game might struggle trying to figure out how the creature is supposed to move 99% of multiplayer enemies will be penis monsters

-EVO way
you have a body already made and can change the properties of parts, like length of limbs, size of organs, etc
pros: probably better looking and better moving creatures
cons: not as much fun to create the monsters I guess, people will still make penis monsters

Why do you even need a root part in building? In combat, though, the "root" is obviously the brain(s) redundancy+limited processing power+less than desirable speed of neural pathways that you have to protect at all costs.
CHoDE building system would suit rather well, at least in most circumstances.

It doesn't really fit the meta. Armor is always more expensive than munitions, so realistically you want just enough to protect your craft from micrometeorites. My doctrine is to use carriers that are filled with 4/8ths laser point defense drones, 3/8ths armored anti-laser missiles, and 1/8th mini drones for dealing with the leftovers that have no lasers anymore. There's other doctrines of course, some people use entirely drones, entirely missiles, very large laser capitals, etc.

Yeah, building is much better in spengs. And having a base actually has a point, while in Empyrion you can just have a flying capital ship base since you don't need a bunch of xbox huge refineries, boxes and assemblers that would slow you down way too much.

I wish Empyrion had a dynamic space part where you could pirate passing transport ships and explore instead of space only being a hallway between the planet and its moon.

Space elevator guy from last weekend here - if you guys recall we had a discussion over whether or not you could build an orbital tether in Space Engineers.

Well, I can confirm the answer is no.

The landing gear "maglev rail" concept works amazing, even with speed limit mods. Decelerating before you hit the end of the track is still an issue, but it's a manageable one. However there are two major problems that rule out the tether concept.

1) There is a ship/structure build cap of 40 km. Blocks will not attach to anything passed that. While that's still ridiculously long, it's only enough to get out to around 0.10 to 0.15 Gs depending on the planet.

2) There's reproducible glitch that occurs with ships/buildings on that scale. Trying to interact with any buttons or objects at the top will cause the entire structure to become incorporeal. You clip through walls, fall through floors, etc. Eventually if you go far enough down the structure will regain it's solid-ness, but the glitch will happen again anytime you interact with anything connected to the tether.

On a totally unrelated note, if you do try something like this - be really REALLY careful not to accidentally delete the bottom block.

The only time RUNNING IN THE 90'S was a valid tactic was in the early days of Robocuck, when there was only wheels, thrusters, SMGs and plasma. and you could use unpowered wheels to go sanic fast with thrusters to bulldoze people and send them flipping into the air while you tear them to pieces with huge powerful guns.

>implying the modern early access industry has any fucking idea what alpha, beta or golden means at all
Alpha is a state wherein you are still adding major features and trying to get a game roughly playable.
Beta is a state wherein you are polishing up the game for release; adding very minor features, balancing, replacing any placeholders, finishing assets
Releasing, or going golden, is a state wherein you should only be patching minor balance changes or bugfixes, and leaving any additional assets and features for expansions.

If you want to keep adding new stuff to your game even after beta or release, then you should just label it as constantly "in development" and skipping most of the other tags.
KSP is still in alpha.
Space Engineers is still in alpha.
Starbound is still in alpha.
All of the notoriously shitty early access games are either completely dead in the water or in alpha.

Frankly, the easiest way of organizing an early factory is by using a resource bus.
See >>166890680 and for a messier version >>166887636

I wouldnt be surprised if they shrink the map sizes down in the next few months.

Players in robocraft want huge ass maps, with lots of players all over the place doing things like capturing bases so players can respawn at those bases. Planes buzzing past overhead at 500mph having dogfights, with slow ass tanks tanking damage with shields like motherfuckers on the ground, and cars doing hektik skidz through ground obsticales and hitting their nitro to escape planes and other fast shit.

Robocraft will never be good.

Considering that there is literally a module that quotes Doctor's assistants in it's description and increases cargo capacity, it's entirely possible that you could cram a football team in a cupboard and still have enough space left over to place the bunks, the workstations and the latrine.

its most likely cubic meters. and i think a grid of 0.1 gives you a cubic meter cube, the thing is that a 0.05 grid is then 1/3 of a cubic meter, so basically a cubic foot

I have a good system, and I never experienced lag in the entire time I've played it.
It's just that the server ran into a recursive loop, shat itself and erased the entire sector with my ship in it, and erased all the systems, turrets and crew on it for the fifth fucking time.
I even wasted most of my money on an ore mine which, after a small amount of time, has produced shit fucking all. Maybe it needed some cargo bays. I'll never know now, because I don't have the patience to go back five sectors or try to fight a fuckton of piraters and/or aliens that will inevitably spawn fifteen minutes after I enter the sector, and every fifteen minutes after that, with nothing but an iron peashooter and a slow-ass cargo ship.

I seriously feel that I would be genuinely happy if the game never had anything new added to it again as long as it was just completely fixed.

On a side note about losing all your shit though, some guy on the forums found out that you can dupe turrets by pretty much building a pole, strapping all the turrets you want duped to the end of it, crashing it, picking up all the floating turret, and then repairing your ship (might need an actual repair dock though) which will replace the turrets giving you 2 of them.

So I mean, you could do that until you have a fuck ton of cash to get back to where you were, I mean as long as you have the self restraint to not cheat yourself through the game.

campaign was really poorly designed, you could unlock all the tech tree from the mun and minmus, and for money you had to grind crappy copypaste contracts

how long ago was the last time you played? because the game has a thing that kind of does what you want, it's called cargodist.

basically, if you have a source with multiple possible destinations, the game automatically assigns a certain portion of the available cargo to each destination using various factors (mainly distance to source, availability of cargo, number of destinations), so you are forced to cope with what the game tells you to bring instead of you being the one to decide where and how much cargo to deliver. You can modify the factors in the settings to get what you want out of it,

It creates a sort of demand for cargo that you have to satisfy in order to get the most profit, it works especially well if you start changing the stock economy with a modded, more complex one.

pic related is the in-game overlay of that shows the available routes and how much you are satisfying the demand (dark green is ok, red means the source has too much cargo and you have not enough vehicles to deliver it in time, light green means too many vehicles and not enough cargo to fill them up in a timely fashion, white means no cargo at all is being delivered).
>>
>>166943794

I'm picturing DF with a map that increases as you build instead of explore, and occasional pirate/enemy attacks.

>>
>>166944158
what I mean is that in the OTTD you buy a train and tell it to go to X, Y and Z stations, which becomes quite annoying when you have a lot of routes and you have to tell each vehicle where to go

I would like a system in which you have a list of routes and from the route you can assign available vehicles to it

the main reason I stopped playing was because micromanagement of vehicles is such a goddamn hassle
>>
>>166944780
Sounds like you're unfamiliar with the controls, and poor at managing your vehicles.
By organizing your vehicles into groups and sharing/copying orders, you effectively create the "fit vehicles to routes" function.

>>
>>166944780
There is the possibility to copy orders very quickly between vehicle, there is also a more advanced form of copying (called "shared orders") that makes it so when you modify the orders of one vehicle, all the other vehicles with the same orders will follow.
So, in the end, you really only have to set your orders manually the first time you open a new route, everything else is done by ctrl+clicking another vehicle to copy and share its orders.
also, like >>166945285 said, groups make your life even easier, especially when it's time to upgrade vehicles or perform mass maintenance

>>
>>166945705

Protoseekers are fucking awful.

At first they had UNLIMITED RANGE, and used hardly any energy, so you could lock onto niggers across the map and chip away at them with a stream of tiny bullets and annoy the shit out of everyone. But it ended up OP as fuck because people would sit waaaaaay up in the air using them attacking everyone just whittling them away until hey died with no way to escape.

THEN Freejam nerfed the fuck out of them into uselessness because Freejam cant into balance. Now they use TONS of energy, and have super short lockon range, while doing minimal damage. They have no reason to exist now.

Go be retarded somewhere else. Fluids don't instantly distribute themselves evenly over an arbitrary number of pipes.
There are numerous threads on the forum explaining how liquids behave, and how the flow between two liquid containers is calculated.
Note also that the pipe throughput is a function of distance, specifically because flow is a function of pressure.

>>166959246
Aside from that one anon's highly unusual setup for testing throughput limits in pipes, I've never encountered said retarded fluid logic.
Even then, it was more of a graphic abnormality than anything with an impact on the game.

>>166959163
Fluids flow from more full pipes to less full pipes.
What it results in is that liquids flow away from where they're produced, towards the place of consumption.
Don't know what would constitute as the "wrong" way, but you likely don't need pumps.

Hey folks, in Empyrion, is there any way to quickly deconstruct a base of some sort?

I've taken over an Epsilon port and it's taking a bit of time to get all the bits and bobs.

I figure we can blueprint build, there should be some sort of in-reverse take down.

Made a to-scale USS Monitor replica in FTD.

The near-zero freeboard and the flat deck lent themselves to a very interesting target profile: Basically every incoming cannon shot either missed due to water drag or skipped off the water's surface. Aside from those that bullseye'd the turret and blew up my barrels for the umpteenth time.

The Monitor didn't have a full metal hull, but wood is so damn floaty and fragile that I cut a corner or two.
And yeah, the Monitor's turret was very poorly designed. It had a tendency to jam, and during one battle got stuck traversing in circles.

The navy investigated using particle beams for missile defense. It was found to be impractical as earth's magnetic field would deflect the beam a lot. A beam going 1000 km would be deflected by 1000 km.

There was a brief scare though that the Russians built a nuclear bomb powered particle beam weapon. This just turned out to be a bit of confusion on the US's side, the Russians were simply testing a nuclear powered rocket engine

For a (very) short period in the cold war technologies for incredibly rapid drilling were investigated. The reasoning being that one could drill under the border of another country and put a nuke under them before they knew what hit them. Thus allowing for a preemptive nuclear strike.

Most technologies investigated consisted of using rocket engine to blast away rock and dirt

Placeholder name for the shock applied to the frame on hit. Technically speaking its correct, if assumed as "Kinetic Energy Applied on Hit", but not really the right way to describe it, given that particular round is high explosive. We considered using "Grams of TNT," but that doesn't really mean anything. Perhaps "Explosive Radius."

No, that's the base value before armor thickness and angle modifiers. Higher means better, but it'll still be reduced by whatever it hits, provided its not a module, which will receive the full impact and explosive radius.

I'm not really sure if exposing aspiring programming champions to Java is a good thing. The language is simple in some good ways but also many bad ones. They practically threw out every semi advanced idea that didn't have something to do with a certain understanding of OOP (it was very trendy at the time), then bashed together a syntax that looked as much like C++ as possible (it was also kind of trendy at the time) and made it build into braindead bytecode that JVM engineers still struggle to JIT compile into something efficient 20 years later.

Its lack of operator overloading means even basic high school tier geometry, vector arithmetic, etc. (great starting point for coding all kinds of things) are going to look very alien to anyone who doesn't already know the syntax. And messing with a robot's fire control equations is probably going to involve a lot of those, so you'll probably learn to hate it if you already don't.

x! relies only on the number x, whereas sqrt(x) relies on the number 2. common notation is sqrt() with no numbers, but if you were doing the cubic or higher root you would denote it with number, but when doing the square root the number is not drawn (but it's still there).

No, you've just entered the "I only play creative now" phase of the game. Enjoy it while it lasts, after this phase, the next one is "I used to play FtD until i got bored"

If multiplayer worked, I'd still play it

Me too.

Shame we finally get tanks now and multiplayer is borked as fuck.

-1/12? Where the hell did you get that from?

>>167020656
I'm with you, man. I beat the campaign once and now I can't be assed to keep up with the incessant stream of shitty balance changes, new OP weapons, and even more min/maxxed ultralag godly abortions. But dropping nukes on the DWG hasn't gotten old even once.

Are the later factions' cheesy sploitbotes even updated for detection, steam power and broken instakill particle cannons?

Might be amusing if they can't hit shit and just ram into a cliff sooner or later.
>>
>>167023449
Yes, they generally just slapped ugly detectorblobs on them.
And the more recent cheese in the Grey OPs and the Scarlet Cheese was built after detection and particle cannons. There's one GT design that's basically a bunch of armor around a flying particle cannon that one-shots damn near anything that comes within 2km of it.
>>
Speaking of FtD, is there any particular reason behind having only one kind of cavity pumps that runs solely on engine power? Or having only one kind of cavity pumps at all for that matter?
>>
>>167024676
Besides the fact that having multiple kinds of cavity pumps would confuse most of the playerbase, there's no particular reason other than "It could be implemented in a different way IF Nick decides it"
>>
>>167016909
Its dead jim... let it go.
Marek basically fucked up hard because he dosent give a fuck because its a pet project.
>>
>>167024676
FTD's playerbase is roughly 1/3rd autists, 1/3rd idiot kids, and 1/3rd people who like making shit. Anything complicated will lose the idiot kids.
>>
>>167025204
>>167026778
>would confuse most of the playerbase
Well first of all you'd still have your old pumps, plus the battery-powered variant - a concept, I believe, is not beyond comprehension even for the retards among the playerbase.
Second, as with the cavities, which aren't that hard to get your head around either, different pumps would probably be just a compressed version of regular ones with some simple drawbacks even a retard can understand, hopefully.
All this goodness neatly tucked away into "engine-powered" and "battery-powered" categories in the "Lasers" tab.

>>167027294
You're forgetting that these are the idiots who build their boats sideways despite the giant arrow, then can't see the giant "rotate your shi[t/p]" button.

Does spacechem crash for anybody else when you hit the play button every now and then? All I can find are people saying it crashes on startup, none about crashing when the simulation is started.

Take the lowest age that is aimed for, and then the most non gamer retard you can find, that is basically the playtesters base.

So games will just be movies where you can choose the character and their equipment.

The planet, or the orbit? Because a planet is a difficult thing to lose, especially at a short distance. An orbit finds YOU, so I'm seriously confused about what he was referring to, unless the play testers were THAT retarded.

The UI's design certainly doesn't speed up this process.

I hope Nick eventually finds the energy (or someone else) to just overhaul the whole thing; it must have some sort of fundamental flaw deep down (besides being made with Unity) to have so many issues with input focus, mouse event handling and blurry ass badly scaled text everywhere.

Hoh my fuck.

The planets were moving, so when they looked in the same spot and found they weren't there, they decided they no longer existed?

This couldn't have been fixed via a 10 second crash course on orbital mechanics when you get into the fucking space ship, rather than removing the entirety of the feature?
>>
>>167029680
You can always motivate them by filling the game with "0/20 F presses near this kind of object" and so on. They might have a vague idea of what they're doing around 19/20 presses.

Make sure there's an obnoxious in-game tutorial the first time they have a chance to do each of those things so they don't miss anything.
