Wew this is an unprecedented level of shitposting.
Also, if anyone else plays ChoDE I'd like to ask what stock materials one should use for armor. I'm using an outer layer of boron for protection against lasers and an inner layer of aluminium. Is this adequate or should I use something else?
>>
>>166545807
Best against lasers is aramid fiber for weight optimized, nitrile rubber for cost. About 4.5 cm of aramid or 9 cm of rubber should do it off the top of my head. Boron with a spider silk spall liner makes excellent anti-kinetic armor, but really the best thing is to just not use armor. Rely on laser point defense drones to keep enemy ordinance at bay, and send them your own in the form of missiles and mini drones.

I've got an idea.
Instead of doing the usual newfag thing and asking 'I want to do [x], which game', take the /egg/ games you've played/know about and say what they're good for.

>Algodoo
Literally any mechanism that can be made in 2D form, up to (and potentially beyond) computing systems if you spend enough time on it.

>Besiege
Messing around; simple mechanical things; structures that take physical damage from stress/collision.

>Infinifactory
L O G I S T I C S
and conveyor belts.
Basically factories.

>Machinecraft
Transformers/artbots that won't work in 'realistic' engineering games.

>Scrap Mechanic
Same as Machinecraft but way more simplistic.
Does have sensors though, which is okay I guess.

>Space Engineers
Spessships and some level of robotics with extreme caution, collision damage included.
>>
>Children of a Dead Earth
Ultimate autism, down to the material your autism is made of, the thickness and radius of it, how fast your autism spins, and the neutron flux of your autism.

>Factorio
Projecting, building and operating massive conglomerate of resource extraction, processing and manufacturing, with need to secure power and logistic support for entire undertaking.
Also you can LARP as USA Marine.
>>
>>166552043
From the Depths

Real time strategy game where you design and build the units limited only by the power of your machine. A gun can have over 10,000 parts.

Some things weren't meant to become games and VHDL/Verilog is one of them.
>>
>>166555328
>assembly lang programming: ok game
>HDL puzzles: not ok game

???
>>
>>166545807
Depleted uranium or anything dense and cheap for actual armor, thin UHMWPE as a base, silica aerogel as cheapass outer.
>>
>>166555501
Poor presentation can kill anything, anon.
>>
>>166555501
Assembly is a good way to make programming fun because the syntax is as simple as possible and there's a very small instruction set to remember, most of which instructions do one thing at a time. As a result, it's easy to help players by highlighting instructions as they execute, showing PC counters, etc.

For hardware design, most games go for a visual representation like CONSTRUCTOR or Shenzhen I/O where you can see blinking wires and shit and players can get instant feedback on what they may be doing wrong.

On the other hand, HDLs are a tool to make hardware design more efficient, but it does so through the two languages with the ugliest syntax in the world and doesn't provide any feedback except waveforms and distorted-looking generated technology diagrams. It doesn't scratch that lego snapping itch and feels too much like shooting in the dark.
>>
>>166556608
But all the graphical hardware designs are either stupidly simplistic or just plain casual. How are you supposed to do this kind of puzzle intuitively without going to the nitty gritty of horrible languages and interfaces? The only game that comes to mind that actually manages to do the whole "implementing previous designs" gimmick kinda well is Jahooma's Logicbox.
>>
>>166556909
>>166556164
>>
>>166556909
You mean how to go from NAND to CPU?

>Visually arrange NANDs to make logic gates, put them in black boxes
>Use logic gates to make FF, put it in a black box
>Use logic gates to make Adder, put it in a black box
>Use Adder and FFs to make synchronous Adder, put it in a black box
>etc.

The critical thing you lose over a HDL is the ability to parameterize black boxes with generics e.g. for bus width, but as far as I can tell, MHRD doesn't let you do this either. And as shitty as it sounds, most of my EE class shitted through their CPU design assignment without writing a single generic and doing everything with fixed bus widths.

>It's really sad to see this happen. I'm sorry for you /egg/.

>>

/cg/ here
This kind of shitposting isn't new at all
And we used to yuripost constantly, especially FtDfags

This isn't new or alarming but it's still probably the Kerns.
I would also contest the idea of a discord or steam group being bad on the ground that we have three steam groups already and a gagglefuck of namefags already, and I've had excellent luck with offshoot communities of 4chan users on a personal note. I wouldn't be opposed to neetfleet becoming active as a community or Warbros steam group chat picking up.

-Able to do whatever you want, but getting there is hard. I wanted to set up my own station and run a pirate organization, and I can. But getting the money to do this is difficult as fuck.
-Or you could create a trading/mining organization with armed escorts and fast, unarmed ships with fuckhuge engines
-Actually fun things to do in a space sandbox for once
-Combat is just holding down M1 but that's not a negative thing to me, since I'll be playing in RTS mode with multiple ships whenever possible
-Love the ship builder, but thruster placement and module placement only slightly matters
-No actual engineering, just /svgg/

>>166592993
expanding on that, a thing the game sorely needs is a threat
currently it is far too easy to just locate the nearest bodies of water and use them as convenient spots to begin your isolation process, preventing enemies from getting to your base in the early game, and forcing them to attack you from chokepoints in the late game, but what if there were enemies of higher evolution factor that could reproduce in water and attack by sea? they'd also be a threat to your tanker ships, maybe because of the extremely useful naval logistics that are now available to you the game should also force you to take great care so you don't lose a massive ship load plus the ship itself at sea, instead of being cheap investments like trains, tankers could be massive price sinks
>>
>>166567707
I can't quite make out the essential stuff from the forum post, bad post organization.

Can you explain it to me?
>>
I also think that the enemies in factorio are not very well tuned
It becomes trivially easy to defend yourself against them late game if you put any thought into it, but for me mid-game tends to be the hurdle with them; either I'm not yet prepared and end up putting up a desperate makeshift defense or I'm pushing them back past easily defensible points

Really no excuse to make flying feel like gliding on ice, no matter what.

I understand how space makes slowing down a bit hard, but they could have made it so you could place main drive thrusters backwards, so you could slow down at a decent fucking rate without needing to flip around and fuck with that for a good 30 seconds.

Every damn time you move anywhere. At all.

I made a goddamn fucking ball of thrusters and it still felt like shit to fly.

Damn that's neat. How does it work?

>>

Not really. Hammers chipping is a myth IMO. Worked around hundreds of guys swinging hammers thousands of times a day for years and it's never happened. The device was a sturdy flat board of unknown plastic-like material with a hole bored through it.

You'd think any scientist worth his salt would have tested the balls in a lab to far beyond whatever punishment a kid with a hammer could inflict.

No. I've done it myself. It mainly depends on what material is used in the hammer and the relative stiffness of what's being struck.

I'm fully confident the bearings were safe. But when you bring out a sledge you're dealing with a lot of energy, and that energy has to go somewhere

Basically, it goes like this:

Red is the counter part.
Constant puts out A(1)
"<" decider does A<60updates/second check, dumps result in A then feeds it to itself, forming self-resetting clock.
Once A hits 59 the two "=" deciders fire A and B respectively, first goes into another clock, second goes into multiplier to "pulse" some other variable.
<extend-o-clock>
Now the second clock, which checks A<10, that is only run in pulses, feeds A into the multiplier and display control circuit (orange) which pulses the current "time" to the "=" decider below.
Multiplier splits constant signal flow into pulses so the third wouldn't run constantly. It also connects it's input to other multipliers downstream to carry the "B" pulse.
The decider below pulses the third clock when the second hits 9.
Go to <extend-o-clock>

Orange is the display control circuit.
Rightmost decider checks if clock's A=0, since I haven't found a way to make the circuit "see" when clock is at zero. If it is at zero, it fires value C(1) at "zero" decider.
"Zero" constant feeds control values at 1 to decider below. It checks Each=C, then dumps Each values into other circuit that's connected to display.
Unlike "zero", deciders for other digits look for second clock's "A" value, checking Each=A, constants' values are equal the digit it represents, i.e. control values are 5 for "5" digit, If current time equals it's constants' value, it dumps control signals into the display circuit.

Yellow is the actual display.
Pairs of lamps have separate control values, i.e. "0" for top, "3" for bottom and "6" for central part.

I hope you'll understand enough of my semi-conscious babble to at least reverse-engineer it.

Actually I'm curious to see the results, mostly because of keencode though, who actually knows.

Now, I think that sloped blocks have the same health as regular blocks, but at a lower weight/mass, if that's true though, with the fact that the blocks have less available options in how to deform, it might make them more sturdy on impact.

And I mean, it's more shit thrown at the enemy anyway, and I mean generally speaking, more shit = more damage.

Thing works pretty well. Still balancing length/components/grav gens etc and I have to leave for uni soon.

The actual reason I used this armour design was to cover the center without using a full block of space, as well as it's light.

With this very rough setup they get to ~260m/s and can blow a hole almost straight through my light large block ship (granted, it's not very tough).

I think if I wasn't using any warheads (currently 1 or 2) then it'd have to be much faster but would be overall more effective.

To throw stuff is useless because the speed is below cap speed, and if you put thrusters, it will damage the suspension blocks or the wheels, and also
>keen physics
The wheel spinning force can make it wobble and the projectile get stuck in mid barrel and explode, but if you set the speed to 0 and handbrake them with 0% friction, you have a decent rail to avoid the projectiles coliding with the barrel walls, that was i was sugesting, so you can shoot even at movement, or while rotating.
>>
>>166651267
>I heard it wasn't actually possible to do some of the latter challenges without cheating, is that true?
not true, just need to find more optimizations, in latest levels its all about response speed

in one of them I had to make a cell of a shift register to give its input instead of its output for a couple ticks until it stabilized its output properly otherwise the signal would be too dephased

Neither. What matters is thrust to net mass.
So take the mass of the rest of the rocket, add it to the mass of the engine, and divide thrust by that. There's your magic number you're optimizing for.

You don't even need Velocity Security Control Bypass to break the speed limit. If you fast toogle the boost then it increases your speed indefinitely.

Here's a graph of various characteristics plotted with respect to the ratio of mass blocks to gravgens.
If you know what you're doing, you have a slight excess of mass blocks - if you're in doubt, you have them in a 1:1 ratio.
Keep in mind the picture is 1½ years old, and the material costs (and by extension, their mass) may have been changed since then.
When in doubt, do the math yourself. Just kidding, you should always do the math yourself.

They helped the server admins to make mods to nerf gravity gens to less than 5% of its original power to stuff, but still work on characters, and they promised something in the future for it.

>one of the few interesting ship designs
Its has been the easiest solution for years, and even 12yolds learned how to make them quick, cheap and easy, and spam the shit out of it, even more than spaw spam.
Now they are invaded with scripters that make all sorts of code wizzardy stuff to find you, target you, and destroy you with some automatic guide missile with thrusters from 250+ km away.
And the devs are following that, they are clearing the path to make their lives easier, like the lastest update to let programing blocks to talk to other grids, because they think that it will "save" the game, or keep it alive.

>gunbed capital ship filled with turrets VS gunbed capital ship with turrets just going near each other and wait untill one stops shooting
>nothing... and then suddently your ship gets bore tunneled by a single capital ship destroyer missile with stone inside cargo containers that wrecks everything with a single hit

The worst is that people prefer to see gunbed capital ship fights, or watch a surival lets play instead of playing the fucking game, and the others who play, just do replicas with so many mods that they will never see the light outside some screenshots or some promo vid.
And the others are those coders i mentioned, they code for days or whatever, then try the script for a few hours, and then another week of coding testing, to make a weapon that its not even usable in the actual state of the game.
They are projecting so hard into the game future, that they are forgetting what its is now (or enjoying it), then you have random people asking to play surivival or small ship pvp (shit i sugested as part of the serb) because they have watched all the lets plays, and the workshop videos, and they are bored, and the few people that make mechs or that kind of stuff, they are atention whores that show the pictures of what they did, but then became paranoid when people start to ask questions, and they ended up raging that they wont upload them to the workshop because they fear copypasters like LGS and company.

If all you want to do is go up and down then hydrogen+ions might be sufficient but it's extremely prohibitive if you want to fly in the atmosphere.

Enough atmos to at least keep the ship airborne plus a full set of hydros for getting through the upper atmosphere and as the primary space propulsion is what I use. Maybe with a minimal backup set of ions if it runs out of fuel.

People will say this strategy sucks and they're probably right I just don't like ions they're shit.

Shenanigans aside, The only people to blame if empyrion isn't wining the SE crowd are the empyrion devs for mis-reading the appeal of space engineers.

They set the intelligence bar too low and pandered to the more casual gamer when what people really want is space engineers but not programmed by retards.

I keep hearing about that empyrion serb with paid blaneds.
Does it have instanced sectors or something? Because instanced sectors in an """"""engineering"""""" game is neat as fuck. Except maybe space-blaned transition. I'd rather be able to bomb shit on surface from the orbit. And it helps to force the devs to make planets round, instead of putting bullshit walls near the poles.
Come to think of it, why would you even need to have gorillion kilometers of empty space between star systems and even between objects of interest like planets or derelict ships? Empty space could be created procedurally, on demand. So you still can build your station in the middle of fucking nowhere, or in an asteroid field that you just found. On-demand space sectors could be tied to overall galaxy map, so that a sector in a nebula or asteroid belt would look like one and contain appropriate stuff.

>>166708201
in spengos everything is voxel data, even empty space, thats why there is no orbits and no water. because its a giant static voxel with or without stuff in it, the only procedual are the asteroids, and you could see that they just grabed a few random basic shapes in blender or 3dmax, and set them as part of the generator, thats why you have donut asteorids and shit that dosent look like an asteroid at all, but the "advantages" of static voxels is that you can update them very "fast", for example when you crash a ship into a planet and dig into its surface a little because of it.

You'll be fucked in the ass if your copper supply goes low, and the assembler ratio is wrong (3:2 copper:chip).
Unless you want a massive amount of filter inserters, you'll need circuit logic to avoid polluted belts.
Also, you could probably go safely for 2k chips/min instead of the 1200 you're currently running.
>>
>>166717058
Dear god that's shitty.
I just got scammed out of 40k credits due to a hauling quest resulting in taking my shit to a station without a docking port and I felt completely ripped off, so I can imagine that'd feel REAL shit.

Maybe it's worth sending a bug report for the suggestion, either under unexpected behavior or other/unknown, especially considering single player server lag is a thing and I'd imagine that'd be fairly easy to have happen
>>
>>166717513
>Iron on the same belt as the green circuits

>>
>>166717513
>Already at Blue Belt
>That is what you came up with

I'm with >>166718034 , separate lines for the chips and the plate at the very least.
>>
>>166717701
the filter inserters are pretty pointless, if things are going as they ought to it's mathematically impossible for iron plates to get through, if i'm not using the circuits faster than i'm spending them then everything gets fucked and no amount of filter inserters will fix the issue
i've made very certain that it's absolutely impossible for it to run out of copper plates though, because that's also another way everything goes to hell
the ratio is 1,3, i feared that if i were to make it longer the ratio would not actually properly be 1,5 due to the wire assemblers at the corners not contributing to more than one circuit machine at a time
i've no idea how wires work but they shouldn't be necessary so long as the circuits don't back up all the way into the factory, i've kept it running since i posted and the filter inserter chests are still empty

>the ratio is 1,3
But should have been 3:2.
It means there's effectively 1(+1/3) chip assembler being idle - you only have 13 craftspeed instead of the expected 15.
On the topic of craftspeed, you only need a minimum of 10 to consume 20 iron/s.
It means you could probably get by with a setup of 14 green chip assemblers and 21 copper wire assemblers (assuming Mk II models) for 10.5 craftspeed.

>i've no idea how wires work but they shouldn't be necessary so long as the circuits don't back up all the way into the factory
They're necessary if you want the setup to not have a meltdown if chip consumption diminishes or copper supply fails.
If you don't safeguard yourself against such cases, then you simply deserve to have your base ruined by them.

I've made similar setups myself.

Oh shit, nevermind what I was whining about, I found a place later with a quest to organize 150 food bars, which was my failed quest and it paid out 144k

Mistakesintomiracles.jpg
>>
>>166720515
how should i do the wiring then? is it as simple as saying that if an unwanted object is detected, halt so the filter inserter can take it all away and redirect it back into the resource loop? i tried some wiring stuff earlier in a setup similar to yours, only allowing in a certain percentage of iron and copper to keep the ratio of my assemblers intact, but i had no idea how to do it, maybe complicated stuff like that is utterly unnecessary
i think using 14:21 sounds a lot smarter, i'm only using as many as i am using because of the inefficient wiring ratio, it also means with only seven greens on each side i can properly cover them using more or less the same template
>>
>>166721410
>how should i do the wiring then?
I'm not here to spoonfeed you, but here's some hints.
You have two separate conditions (no copper, output belt filling up) that should result in no iron being allowed into the production area.
Handling the first is straightforward, and should not require more than two belt pieces that're wired up together.
The second shouldn't be much different, although you'll likely need to read off multiple belt pieces to get it working well - there's a possibility you might have to read the throughput, which might require you to grab a blueprint off the forum.

Scavenge ships. Just find a sector with lots of friendly ships, and when pirates show up help kill them. If they drop cargo, it's yours, and you can scavenge the dead friendlies too. A lot of the time the cargo is just leather or some other junk, but sometimes it's high value shit. you'll get loads of upgrades eventually, and then go find a research lab to trade them up. If you run out of cargo space, build more on the spot and just be a slow moo cow until you can offload the goods.

Another voxel-based building game. Power transmission is very clunky, but can be done. Make big trucks!

I'll do some more later.

Really, there's not much interest in engineering games beyond a few small core groups.

Space in itself is boring to most people who play video games, what makes you think anyone with money would put that money into a engineering game on top of that?

Definitely not possible on vanilla

Smallest body currently possible ingame has a 19km diameter and 0.25g surface gravity, or 2.4525 m/s^2. This means a 215.86 m/s escape velocity.

Largest body has a 120km diameter with 1g surface gravity. Results in 1084.99 m/s escape velocity.

Formula is really simple, root(2*g*r), so root(2*2.4525*9500) for example.

So if you can find a server with a 12x velocity mod and build up enough of a runoff with atmos thrusters, you might be able to hit escape velocity on the largest planets.

I know all this from space mexican game

Oh boy. It's autism to the max.
Can't speak too much for lasers but for coilguns you have stuff like barrel composition, thickness, material, coil material, number of coils, layers of coils, material of the payload's envelope and many other things.

THEN you have the actual projectile, mass, material, warhead (and you have to design a nuke if it's a nuclear warhead), "frag sleeve"...
But that's only if the coilgun is shooting a projectile, it could just as easily shoot a rocket, or a drone with machineguns, or a drone with guns that shoot missiles

I made a V1-like auto-bomber in Besiege. It maintains its own pitch and roll using tailfins and canards driven by a set of gyroscopes. The anemometer at the back drives that huge gear train to measure the distance flown, which in turn drops the bombs when passing over the target.

It would be kickass if someone who knows mods could make one that looks like an actual German V1.

i just wanted to make one belt work anon, now it works, it requires exactly forty iron plates every second, it outputs exactly forty circuits every second
despite underground belt shenanigans sometimes it doesn't go as flawlessly as it ought to and a single iron plate makes it through the assemblers, but it gets immediately blocked and returned to the production line without halting production or sullying the circuit pool

Done goofed. You now have even more crafting speed (which is wasted) than before - at a significantly higher cost.

pic related is no longer what it looks like, by consuming 16 iron plates every 0,4 seconds (40 iron plates), it now wastes no crafting speed and i'm using both sides of the belt
except the copper wires at the ends, i can admit those are super shit
i can also admit it is super shit that it lets iron plates through rarely because of no output space

Eh, that's it. I got a bunch of cool webm's from /wsg/ but they've got sound and I can't be assed to convert.

Seriously how do I not lose 4k worth of thrusters every fucking battle? It's not like I can put armor on top of them.

If you're talking about avorion, yes you can. Collision and occlusion litterally aren't calculated on your own ship.

Abortion in a nutshell

Thrusters are usually placed in the rear.
To get shot in the rear, you must be ambushed or retreating.

You guys could have just said that the titanium dampeners are obligatory and literally protect almost your entire ship from all localized damage. They sounded lackluster from the ingame description and just tried them out now.

/v/ spore thread from a few years back. They were honestly some of the best i've witnessed.

I don't have any of the good threads saved but here's something
>>
>>166793562
That sounds like the thing that makes you think your ship is ok and then it explodes from one final bullet. Don't use it. Just put armor plates over your engine stacks.
>>
>>166793562
I'm not talking about titanium dampeners.
There's something even better a little further in.

That said though, they are pretty good

is it weird to be hyped for fluid tankers? because I'm hyped. Look at the pump animations, they're like transformers
>>
>>166798647
>hype for a feature I'll never use
nope
>>
>>166799970
why would you never use it?
>>
>>166798647
What is this? Factorio?
>>
>>166800193
Yep, that's the wireframe for the new pump and liquid tanker for .15
>>
>>166800060
Why would I ever?
Crude oil is the only fluid it makes sense to transport, and it can easily be shipped with oil barrels or by pipe.
>>
>>166800852
rail tanker is way easier than barrels

plus you could definitely make good use of shipping petroleum, oils (I'm thinking flamethrower turret refuelers) or even water to other places. you're just not imaginating hard enough
>>
>>166801082
>way easier
Are you implying that barrels are difficult to manage?

>flamethrower defense
Transport light oil by pipe and pumps.
If distances are excessive, instead transport crude oil by train and refine at nearest water source.

>water
It's basically used for two things; power production and petrochemistry.
The former consumes huge amounts of water (the typical 1:14:10 goes through 60 water per second), and you rarely need more than one refining area.
Even then, water sources are rarely so far away that you can justify transporting it by train.

They're fairly similar in some ways like transporting oil or rolls of metal from A to B and getting it all running smoothly in the right ratios.
