I think Sora releasing his heart was a special case, right? Ansem SoD made some super special keyblade from the princess hearts that had the ability to release the darkness in a person's heart. Then in Ansem's lab they came up with a way of manufacturing emblem heartless that was used to make the organisation members. Outside those 2 special cases, the heart has to be consumed by darkness to create a heartless. Which admittedly raises questions about what exactly that means if Master Xehanort was somehow not consumed with darkness enough.

At least from a JP perspective, an xbone port would 100% be a financial loss. It's a completely different game from 3DDD. Now, Spirits run across the screen and you have to shoot the candy they want at them. Based on size, each Spirit is either 10, 20, or 30 points. Smaller Spirits are worth more.

But the size and number of Spirits that appear is basically completely fucking random.
The smallest Spirits move faster than your cursor, typically.
The hitboxes are vague at best.
The cursor cannot reach the edges of the screen.

So even when you get a great crowd of Spirits, good luck tossing the right candy at them when they overlap and you simply can't get to their hitbox, and when it feels like it should hit, it actually lands on the floor or gets a Spirit it just shouldn't have.

I can't believe they want 800 points from that, when Balloon is piss-easy at 200, and Water Barrel is mostly reasonable at 400.
The way they changed Water Barrel makes it kind of shitty for score chasing also.

However, there are challenges unlocked in the postgame, which you can also complete with NG+.

The problem is that Critical Mode is a fucking bitch and a half.
No Second Chance.

As an example, one of the challenges is to defeat the Castle Town Devil's Tower with Spellweaver's Finisher.

0.2 finished! My biggest concern going in was for the gameplay, knowing that for the most part, 0.2 is really just a tech demo for KH3, which Osaka Team is developing, something I'm not too fond of. It's no surprise to anyone who browses KH threads to know that many people have a disdain for the gameplay in Osaka Team's games (BBS, 3D, etc.) They really don't hold up to KH2: poor design, wonky controls, questionable mechanics.

My impression of the combat in 0.2 was that albeit is was very reminiscent of BBS sometimes, I definitely felt the Tokyo Team (KH1, KH2) influence in the gameplay. The return to menu-based combat was satisfying, for one. I noticed quite a few other changes from the system used in BBS, particularly the command style system (now called Situation Command); where by filling up a gauge with certain attacks, you gain access to a new combat style. What sets it apart from its BBS incarnation is that you can use special attacks (-ja spells, melee finishers, etc.) as well. These commands are not automatically triggered (as they were in BBS), you manually activate them when ready, though there is a time limit. This is good as it gives the player full control of the pace of battle.

Boss battles are hit and miss. Humanoid bosses are fun, from what I can tell, revenge value is back. When fighting a certain boss, I felt there was a good balance of offensive/defensive approaches to playing. No more Mysterious Figure nightmares.

Large-scale enemies however.... this is where Osaka Team's questionable boss design tendencies show. I stopped having fun during these moments, it felt like BBS again, fighting an enemy that just does whatever it wants with no regard for the combat system. It felt really unpolished compared to the aforementioned boss. While large bosses in any KH usually aren't fun, KH2 made them a lot more bearable with reaction commands, but there's nothing like that here outside of Wayfinder, so you just have to slug through the encounter.

At least in KH1, attacks were designed to work against boss characters. You weren't left akwardly floundering in the air with shotlock commands that couldn't keep up with enemy movement, or relying on counter i-frames to brake through attacks.

That being said, Osaka team has no problem with regular enemies designs/mechanics.
