Last step, we take the true bearing from step 2 (118) and subtract from it the lead bearing of 52 (i.e. moving 52 degrees to the left, or port, because our target ships our on our portside). Here we draw a new line from the middle, this time we draw it over the entire diameter of the wheel, now on the outside of the middle ring we read our course of attack. In our case it is 64-65.

So we set our course to 64 degrees, then we set our speed to 10 knots (the speed we used earlier, if you change your speed now things will not add up anymore obviously). If the information on the enemy contacts was accurate, and they keep their course and speed constant, the course obtained this way will be the fastest route to intercept your target at the speed you chose.

I mean just following the steps 1 by 1 will get you the results, but if you understand the concepts behind each step it becomes easier to remember. It also becomes easier if the thing has an extra dial, as you would be using that extra dial to not all the intersections rather than a paint tool as I have done now.

Now all is done and dusted, the course has been plotted and expected point of interception marked.

Now in this particular instance my uboot is angled more than 90 degrees away from the target course, i.e. my rear end is pointing closer towards the intended course than my frontend, in this case it is especially bad as it is basically 180 degrees behind me. The whole plotcoursing we did just now assumes you leave from your location towards the target IMMEDIATELY at the speed you chose. Being back to front this is obviously not going to happen.

Furthermore I don't want to be there when my target is there, I want to be there BEFORE my target gets there.

With these two things in mind I will be upping my speed to 14 knots, then hit periscope depth when I make visual contact and set up for some torps.

After watching that Magnasaki video again I decided to sketch out what the maximum population for an SC4 city could be.

What I came up with: for a large size tile (and using the houston building tileset) in theory the max population would be just over three million. This assumes all high rise low-income tenement blocks (technically not possible due to how growth stages function, but I did not account for medium and high incomes), all mid-rise commercial (possible) and all high density industrial (possible). Each 12x14 unit is mostly self-sufficient (jobwise), and only requires a police kiosk and subway station.

It's untested, but this is more or less the theoretical baseline without cheating around the growth stage functions.

Being a fan of Russian aircraft is fucking suffering.

The two aircraft I'd want most are already stuck as FC3 planes and will never full fidelity.

Ey guys, picked up a used Logitech G27 the other day, not realising it had no power cable.

Managed to find a cable at home that would fit, but doesn't quite supply the right amount of power.

All the buttons on the wheel and the pedals work, however the shifter itself does nothing, and there's no green power LED. Forums say the LED should light up dimly from just the USB alone, however mine does not. Can anybody confirm this?

Is this likely just because of the power supply, or something wrong internally? I've got a power cable coming from China, but that won't arrive for testing for a few weeks

Overused, underutilized (DCS is the only sim that tries to properly SIMULATE these craft in all their detail) and mostly abused for cheap throwaway meme games that aren't even bothering to be realistic simulations of those planes.

IRL most russian planes were total garbage, but of course if you want to make a "balanced" video game around them, this won't work. And as soon as you "balance" around a fair battlefield, you've officially left the realm of a simulator.

Practically every WW2 themed game falls in this category, including CLOD and BOS, hence why they aren't real sims.

I don't care for fairness, I want to fly the real thing as much as humanly possible. The fact that they forgo any sort of ground ops, any sort of startup procedure, any sort of clickable cockpit, any sort of appeal to realism, etc. just disqualifies entirely as even remotely appealing.

Dogfighting is the least interesting part of the true simulator experience. The most fun is system management and following a real procedure.

Also keep in mind if you do start out with a twist stick you'll inadvertently incorrectly fly some aircraft, namely powerful props and helos who have constant torque rotation and need proper rudder control. So if you find yourself flying a helicopter and you're thinking "what the fuck is going on here"? Just know that a real set of pedals totally changes the experience to be more manageable as well as realistic

I like click pits and properly modeled systems as much as the next guy, but your post basically reads as 'I dont like combat/combat is the least appealing part of a combat sim'.

When really is the flight model themselves first and foremost that make a FLIGHT sim worth playing, and the acm of air combat, where in those high fidelity flight models shine, that make the combat, in combat sim, so worth playing.

This is why Falcon 4, despite all its click glory, is so old and outmoded, as its fm is literal on rails, and why DCS, even you're flying a FC3 plane, remains king.

It's also why sims like RoF, which model the earliest and simplistic aircraft, is still worth playing, the dynamic flight modeling.
