I usually go with an even balance of the three different cav units, one engineer unit, the artillery units, three guard units and about six infantry units. I've never really payed much attention to how the battles work so I know there's probably a better way.

To not get fucked out of trade it can be useful to cash in on two consecutive nodes.

Say you own Aleppo and Persia and you move a lot of trade from india towards them.
Moving the trade towards aleppo would increase the trade value, but then the nodes of alexandria and constantinople get free trade power in aleppo and take a big chunk of that pie.
So cashing in persia would protect the trade from downstream trades, but not from caravan power given by active merchants.

Depending on how your inflation handles the treasure fleets of the americas you may want to try to grab the mutapan lands in southeastern africa. A lot of gold provinces there that you can get a lot of value out of by stating and developing up to 5-9 base production.

Yeah if you play cusco which is easy mode, you will always be a few mil levels ahead of enemies. Make sure to always have an ally, because it will take quite a few wars untill you are strong enough to take on 2 or 3 states alone.
You are right about those mechincs tho, here were my issues:
needs setler increase based on terrain for each nation, e.g. aztec gets bonus in jungles, inca in mountains, to counteract the current eurocentric focus of settler numbers.
Euro countries get colonial nations, which means they dont have to spend adm mana on making cores for colonies. A change to this would be nice, (-50% core cost on same continent?).
Im honestly not sure how trade can be changed, it will either be shit for venice/portugal etc who rely on euro pull or shit for everywhere else

Not knowing about their great leader I was always surprised by how much Cuzco was keeping up in mil tech in my native coop game when I was playing as Quito.

The game up to that point had been singleplayer for me, but it was actually a coop multiplayer game.
The other three people are in central america.
That game is put on the shelf though since one player gave up in frustration in north america and we started another game.

If I were to go for a solo inca game I would probably play as Carib or another of the migrating natives in south america.
Get the +10 force limit building while migrating towards lima, tech up to dip 3 while focusing on mil techs.

Conquer Lima and take the event to switch religion and then blob.

I would then work on getting to the coast by way of muisica, and since I have dip tech 3 and can colonize further away I would colonize on an island that has a strait to another island and get a border quicker with the europeans.
The migrating natives have vision over there so starting as one of them would be key.

Maybe revoking some territory after you've conquered everything in the andeans, so that you can reconquer it and lower autonomy again for +5 authority per province.
