Put in a switch preorder and a separate BotW preorder about a week ago. Should I cancel the BotW preorder and go digital this (half) gen? What's the best pokemon mystery dungeon to play? I tried the demo for one of the 3DS ones a long time ago, but there was so much drawn out talking that I ended up just uninstalling it.

The one you're talking about here is Gates to Infinity. While all of the games have a lot of text, Gates to Infinity makes it seem way worse than it actually is because of how slow the text speed is (the text itself is actually faster than the previous game, you probably wouldn't even notice it if it wasn't so slow)

Ok, so not only is the Switch region free and allows you to access all region eshops from one system.
Turns out language of the game is determined by language setting of the system itself.
So you can set an english copy of BoTW in Japanese, with Japanese VA.
All the game is missing is an option to choose text language and Voice language separately, but would be really easy to patch in.

1. Is Dragon Quest 8 on 3DS really the "must own 3DS game" right now? Is it really that good?

The original is pretty widely regarded as the best Dragon Quest game (tied with 5.) I haven't tried the remake yet, but I've heard it's just as good.
Again, I'm basing this off of the original, but it was around 80 hours. There's a couple more dungeons in the 3DS version and I think some more characters to recruit.

If you've never played a Dragon Quest game before and want to check the series out, emulate the SNES versions of 3 and/or 5.

I´m trying to put all of my old eshop games on my new 3ds because the old one is literally falling apart. Problem is, when I put the sd card with the files into the new console it doesn´t show the eshop games at all. I can apparently only see and play them on my old 3ds. Will BotW be worth purchasing a Switch for, if you don't own a Wii U?
Currently trying to decide whether or not I should pre-order it. There are some other games I want on the Switch, but their release dates are a while from now. I would be waiting for a deal later in the year if it wasn't for Zelda.

I dunno about right out the gate either way (for you, I've already preordered), but I'd recommend a Switch because the longer you wait on Wii U post-Switch, the cheaper it, and its games, are likely to become. Switch, on the other hand, will stay at the same price for much longer, along with its games. Hopefully. If the Switch gets a [permanent] price cut by this Holiday season that's gonna be a VERY bad sign for the system and the company.

In fact, you can kind of see that Nintendo's cutting the price painfully low for themselves in the lack of bundle by how much they're charging for the accessories. I mean, I kinda get their justification for the $80 controllers in that they have Gyroscopic functions, and "HD Rumble," and NFC scanners, but still I think they're trying to cover their losses with those sales (especially the Joycon grip).

It was a "Video Game Analysis" class that was part of the TV-Film department at my college. We studied the history of multiple video game genres for a few weeks, as well as the history of consoles in general (where we talked about consoles being sold at a loss), then how to make a game pitch, various things like core game loops for different genres, talked to a couple people working in the industry (since the professor was actually the real professor's friend who worked at Rockstar and was starting his own game company), and that's at least 80% of it.

Sadly, the course gets a new professor every semester, some of them complete ass. It's apparently called "Video Games and Storytelling" now.

I'm pretty newfag when it comes to Nintendo so I came here looking for some answers to a couple questions I have.

1. I've never played a Zelda game before, but this new one caught my eye and I really just cannot stop thinking about it. Is Zelda an open world kinda game? Is the new one going to be? I only ask because I'm a fan of not having a very linear story forced upon me and I like to make my own choices.

2.What other games coming with the Switch release that you guys would recommend? And the Switch in general, is it gonna be worth the buy? I've never had my own console only ever used my PC so its hard for me to tell if a console will be worth it for a few games or if the console will even be good and worth it itself.

When Sony prices their consoles they tend to eat some of the taxes in certain countries just to make the console more affordable. Historically all consoles have been slightly more expensive in Europe than in the US. Both because of taxes and because of import and what not. However to not make the consoles too expensive the console manufacturers paid some of those taxes themselves. Cutting into their direct profits, but overall guaranteeing higher sales numbers.

Everyone but Nintendo still does this. Just a few months ago Sony announced the PS4 Pro and they set one price for the whole of Europe. The result is that they have to eat some of the taxes in some European countries with high taxes, just to have the console be at a competitive price-point.

The Switch does the opposite. It has a standard price, and in each country Nintendo adds extra costs on top of that price depending on the taxes or other tariffs. The result is that a Switch in France costs 330 euros, but got a bit more north and you'll find one for 300 euros in The Netherlands. Even more north and it is 380 euros (3599 SEK) in Sweden.

Meanwhile the PS4 Pro is 399 euros everywhere in Europe, no matter the country, because adding an extra 80 euros on top of that in some countries would make it too expensive and make it not sell. So Sony just eats those costs. Nintendo doesn't anymore because they want the full profits and are willing to take the hit in sales.

Well, that's the third-party support I needed for Switch confirmed.

Sure, 5-6 launch titles may seem like a sparse lineup, but the releases are staggered to have a constant flow of new, strong selling games on the march to the holiday season. And come on, even if the console's a cheap $300, most people weren't gonna be buying 4-5 games at launch, it's just too much money at one time for a lot of people. People would've bought 1-2, maybe 2-3 then waited for the rest to hit a sale, hurting profits. The 2DS is actually really comfortable.
The shoulder buttons mould to your fingers a lot better than the 3DS with it's hard buttons and sharp corners.
The button placement is fine as well and you get a natural hand position as opposed to the normal sized 3DS (I haven't help an XL in a while though so I can't make an accurate comparison there).
The lack of a clamshell is annoying but it's far and away more comfortable than a normal sized 3DS.
