Progress on here is blendspace enabled root motions to push the enemy in any direction.

You could use the mouse, the closer it is to the bottom of the screen the more defensive you are. Moving horizontally could initiate certain sweeps or strikes, or flicks vertically for thrusts/jabs and stuff like that, other moves for defensive blocks, etc.

I need help on how Local Storage works.

I'm just trying to figure out how it works in general.

I have custom controller/key mapping using global numbers and keycodes. The remapping part works fine, but I need to remap my controls every single time I relaunch the game.

I have no idea what the fuck I'm doing when it comes to local storage. I set up a save and load function, but every time I hit load, I just get back garbage.

The problem with the old mana bars on the right where it was hard to gauge how many "shots" you had left, with the gems the player can quickly take note of how many power sword attacks they have in stock, seeing as a filled gem is animated in gameplay.

newHealth = currentHealth - damageToGive.

Then divide newHealth and currentHealth by 100 at some point and pass them both into a function that lerps your GUI element. Then set currentHealth to newHealth.

I've had to use a kinematic rigidbody for my ship so that the player can walk around on it while it moves
Only problem is the ship isn't able to collide with the ground or walls since it's kinematic

I haven't been able to think of a good solution yet

So far it's storing player stats, inventory, location, and enemy types and locations. I still need to make it store what items the player has picked up.

For the majority of it, I'm using the in-memory representation of the data, and passing it through deflate.

The extra time required to compress/decompress is currently unnoticeable, but I'll keep an eye on it as I add more things.

It's not universal (you can choose your own OOP primitives after all) but I think it's silly not to use mixins if you don't have specific performance concerns

you can always use self, at any time. Any method call obj:method() is exactly equivalent to obj.method(obj). This means you can do things like obj.not_a_method(a, b, obj) and this is still technically OOP because it has polymorphism and all that good stuff

HaxePunk went unmaintained for months while the APIs they built it on kept changing, and it was breaking more with every update. I tried HaxeFlixel and some other Haxe stuff and couldn't get any of them going for some reason. Then I tried rolling my own engine on top of OpenFL and quickly decided that was a bad idea. Then I tried switching projects and writing in C++, but C++ demoralized me to the point that I just quit game dev for a while. Later, an even nicer language than Haxe appeared, and I got back into game dev, and I've been here ever since.

Python's parameter notation can be used for a sort of static typing hack, and EcmaScript 7 can be used with trademarks, which would probably make you happy. I don't like static typing in my very high-level languages though.

I don't care much about typing, but I agree that Go should have parametic polymorphism. I've had to abuse type conversion functions in some pretty ugly ways because it doesn't support it.

I just use whatever language gets the job done the easiest though.

It's the hierarchy, the root is ordering the children around. Character template also fucks with a lot of things. You need a volume extending downwards from the pawn for the overlap check or a volume extending up from the floor, character pawn standing on top of the collision is maybe only momentary because the character movement component fucks with a lot of things. Character and its movement isn't actually physical in the game world, it fakes being physical, fucking with even more stuff.

Another entire day spent on the camera after yesterday even though I called it good enough. Now it's a lot closer to Wind Waker's camera, in that you can move it (almost, Y axis is limited) 360 degrees around the player.

Probably will switch to an auto camera for tight corridors, but when you're in a nice big open space it'll work out really well. There's still a few tiny bugs like when the camera clips against the wall its sometimes jerky, but I can fix that in time.

Responsive as in it doesn't turn when you want it to turn? Probably a combination of having a million things open to the video isn't smooth, and the green cursor not following the camera when it moves since I recorded in a small window and the cursor left the screen multiple time.

The camera rotating isn't always on too, you have to press and hold the middle mouse button to use it.

You can use a shader with "cull off" to render both sides ("cull back" is the default), however it will not have correct lighting on both sides if you do this.
