It's pretty much known that Skyrim has one of the worst combat systems imaginable with shit tier weapons that barely differ from each other.

Gameplay is basically mashing the attack button while interrupting the enemy using occasional shield bashes in the process. No amount of combat mods can really make the combat actually fun to play unless someone actually reworks the system.

Does Skyrim have actual voice acting or are all of the voices generated through some software program?

There's a shitty romance mod called Amorous Adventures that has a ton of unique dialog done in the "original" voices. It sounds seamless and spot on.

Haven't tried Attack Commitment and Combat Evolved but I usually work with:

Ultimate Combat/Dragons
VioLens
TK Dodge
Ordinator

Even then, combat still feels bad because how Skyrim animations and hitboxes work. There's not much variation to them aside from power/sprinting attacks (which isn't much anyway). The only times I find it "fun" is when I start using modded magic spells.

I was expecting something more fleshed out. Kinda like Dragon's Dogma's combat system where you actually have individual classes and can specialize with different weapons that have varying skills unlike Skyrim's.

You gotta make sure nothing is clipping, the angle is right, fake some stuff up with camera angles and weird poses and so on. It seriously takes forever, especially with more than 2 actors. Sometimes jaxonz just throws the NPC through the ceiling and you gotta set up the whole thing from the beginning, you gotta move the light objects with jaxonz to get the lighting right...

witcher combat is shit. Its just onebutton spam, just like skyrim.

Skyrims magic and ranged combat is fixable, the melee one is not. This comes down to first and third person sharing the same camera and unbelievably limited and bad animations/controls. m8 i am modding this game for about 4 years now. I tried it all, all the combinations, all possible setups with skytweak, grimmys combat patcher and the health offset mods, all kind of "dark souls" mods (btw attack commitment is not making the game like dark souls, in DS2 most enemies have tracking now thanks to babbyborn), all the scaling, balancing or whatever mods.

those mods you recommended are about as basic as you can get in skyrim, its like saying "install ENB for gud graphics"

I once made a combat and magic modlist, but only the magic one is left, lost the melee combat one. Took me 3 hours to clear Bleak Falls Barrow with active dodging, blocking and all kinds of buffing and spell/combat interactions
in the end it still sucked, skyrim is not made for DMC/DS combat.

Been using that for ages tho, it still doesnt help much. And i found that attack commitment is actually counter-intuitive to all the combat mods out there that much more rely on multiple enemies trying to attack you once.


I think the biggest issue with skyrims combat is that it feels disconnected. You can't really use a lockon mod. Skyrims third person camera is EXACTLY the same as the first person camera. If it was freely adjustable, like in the Zelda series or dark souls, such mods would make great sense. Not so much with the current camera. Your melee attacks still feel slow, like a drunken man trying to catch something. Its floaty and unresponsive.
Even with Tk dodge and TK hitstop, you find yourself flailing the air. Sometimes, when the enemy gets staggered, you create a physical response, but that happens rarely.

I think CT has quite a few nice webms with a pretty good combat mod setup, and his webms make it extremely obvious how flawed and broken skyrims combat is, even with mods.

After all, when people talk about skyrims flaws, chances are the combat is the number one named flaw, and you can't fix that with mods because its hardcoded.

You can add new elements to it(better time block, dodging), adjust the AI and a few other tweaks, but you can't change the mechanics behind all this.

Personally i have a huge raging boner for awesome, quick, reactive and immersive(also balanced) combat and i spend so many hours trying to make it work. It just doesn't.

If it was still around 2012 and we had these mods, it probably would be pretty good. But nowadays, with all those games with really good combat that came out, it became very hard to overlooked the terribly designed combat of skyrim and its absolutely awful animations. FO4 suffers from it too btw.

still, a perfect showcase of it. You make it look really fun and make good use of all those mods features like active dodging, but i know that actually playing it is not half as fun. In this webm alone one can see how much of an issue the camera is, Instead of turning the entire camera and THEN moving, the game should allow you to turn the camera first while attacking your current target, and using the movement keys to eventually backing away while still facing the current enemy.

Well I was playing since meme date on a 360, till 2014. All the time on the 360 my saves would get corrupted or ILS about 40 hours in. Plus I always save the MQ and DLC for last in TES games. I do all the guilds and side shit.

2014 to now it's been tons of modding, mod quests and just heavy RP. I don't have a Dragonborn character, so I cant really do the MQ.
