This is why i hate long war though, how was i supposed to know to skip that mission? I wasn't, because it's not meant to be beatable on your first try, fair enough. While I completely understand and mostly agree with your dislike, I just want to say:

Long War is meant to play differently to the base game. With Xcom 2 being more moddable we're able to actually get different systems that we can see and understand, stuff like Haven management and Infiltration. LW1 hid everything because they couldn't display it because that's how the game worked. I absolutely hated it.

Basic Xcom 2 rarely has a case where you shouldn't take a mission. If you have half a squad of competent soldiers, you do the mission. If you can't even manage that your campaign is probably in the bin anyway. This just seems to be a harder way to play the game.

There will be 2 saves. One with bunch of mods and other with only LW2. Let's say one day I get bored of LW2 and want to play that other moded save. Since I deselected those mods for my LW2 save, would I be able to continue the save with bunch of mods with selecting those mods and deselecting LW2.

Unfortunately i am a scrub, i saved the 3 captives, but got caught in the end. There was a surprise 4th pod at the end, and i could've saved 1 soldier but i figured i could save all 3 if i kept him in to help, unfortunately the 2 other pods caught up really fucking fast, 2 soldiers panicked and that was that.

On the plus side, if they had not been rookies they probably wouldn't have panicked, and i would've gotten away.

I'm not going to pretend i'm good or anything but this is INSANE, i can't spend multiple turns on one firefight and race against the clock to hack something at the same time.

Like in this mission, at this point i just can't reach the objective anymore because somehow a civilian saw me through a wall and alerted one pod, and because grenades are so weak now(not to mention that i feel like i want to conserve them because they are guaranteed damage) and cover bonuses are so good, that even taking out 4 advent took me multiple turns.

I don't know what bullshit alien is in the fog of war, so i don't want to yellow move especially when i'm already fighting one pod, but you have to flank the ayys to kill them because cover is too good, but if you try and flank them you could get yourself flanked by another pod, but even if you flank them in the early missions with only rookies you can still just grace them, and then you have these fucking sentries right at the start of the game that just overwatch every time, i mean shit i'm on like my third mission and they already have covering fire, so to remove their overwatch i want to use a flashbang, but now they fire at you if you use a flashbang and hhashsodahdiajopdhaipwqhiksada

I don't want to pussy out by changing the timers or getting true concealment but either i'm just too shit to do it "legit" or this is insane.

I'm not sure how balanced some of the timers are on these maps - I just got a "Rescue Resistance Contacts" mission where I may have been able to rescue everybody and get to EVAC using 10 turns of only dashing & hacking on a 12 turn timer. Not to mention there was a sectoid pod INSIDE one of the prisoner cells who could magically phase in and out of the locked door.

As well as using grenades as distractions. Unactivated pods react to noise. Grenades will move them away from objectives.

Enemy AI bugs out and starts ignoring LoS; and unlike in the vanilla game where when LoS bugs occurred you could cheese it right back that's not the case now. When you activate a pod they know where adjacent soldiers (minus those with stealth perjs) are 24/7 even without LoS.

While the AI update is actually really nice at times it breaks frequently enough to make me question if they playtested.

early game it sounds like Fun to just roll with all your squaddies and risk the extra pods if another mission comes up that you would miss otherwise, three extra pods or so won't be that deadly early game on veteran at least as long as you use and abuse flashbangs. Seriously flashbangs are so much better than frag grenades now it's silly, only reason to bring frags is for your grenadier with sapper to actually blow shit up.

AS VAL and VSS Vintorez have been updated. They now have the same number of slots and stats as the LW conventional weapons. Whoever runs that spreadsheet containing working mods please update my mod to compatible.

For those who are not playing with LW2, apologies but you'll have to manually go into the mod folder and edit the XcomCV_VAL.ini file, replace the stats with the original stats--that's provided in the file--and then save it.

I could have released the LW compatibility as a separate mod, but it's really just a small change--isn't worth it.

Tried various things, but I felt like as if things weren't working properly. So I just took note of what mods I had, unsubscribed from them all, and uninstalled the game.

pure RNG is shit, pure determinism is shit, you need a mix of both to make the gameplay fun. The only time you should be seriously gambling anything is when the situation looks grim and gambling is the only option, then it isn't frustrating - you were probably going to lose anyways, but the gamble gives you that chance of some amazing plays.

To have EVERY SINGLE ACTION be a gamble is fucking retarded gameplay design. The original xcom got it right with physics based projectiles.

This huge glaring mistake was made when Relic made Homeworld 2, too. Never do hitscan, never do RNG guns. Always do physics based projectiles. ALWAYS.
