I ask this because before the alien hunters dlc vipers were customizable and had XCOM logos on their armor, and the mod author isn't giving us the model or even releasing a separate mod that doesn't require alien hunters
If there are any modders here XCOM skins for aliens would make me a happy commander
>>
Instead of upgrading weapon tiers you have to buy the individual weapons in Long War 2? How does that interact with mods? In the old system, the weapon with the mods would automaticaly go to the next tier. How does this work with Long War 2? Does Long War 2 give you the ability to remove your weapon mods to put on your next tier weapon?
>>
>>166089231
For someone experienced with modeling and modding xcom, literally less than a couple hours.

>import viper mesh
>import xcom chestpiece
>adjust so it fits properly
>add greebles if they're necessary to complete the look
>probably don't even have to fiddle with weights much
>test animations, make adjustments if necessary
>export model for use in-game
>do modder things so it's a selectable or default armor

I figure it's an 8-hour job at most and could plausibly be done in 2 hours if everything goes perfectly smoothly.

I know Beagle said he would still do his modded campaign even though Long War 2 was coming, but considering how fast it came out and how much it changed and how many new mechanics it introduced (alot of the new pod mechanics are things Beagle has been wishing for quite a awhile) I find that hard to believe.

I'd stake my money on a LW2 campaign pretty hard tomorrow, which I know isn't that bold, but I am tentatively looking forward to it.

What do you mean? It's not about playing like a dipshit, it's about adding a new way to play because the one I have described becomes stale very quickly. I can't believe you have fun doing to the same thing every turn without even thinking. It's either you kill all the enemies you see on your turn or suffer the consequences. No surprises, no other tactics, nothing. Move, check, move others, move, check, shoot the enemies that appeared on your screen, move, check, move others, move, check, shoot, mission completed. I don't know, I might be wrong but turn-based systems with iniative points, dynamic turns, turn interceptions and other mechanics are more thrilling to play than that. Which is the reason I've asked if there's a mod for that.

>tfw i realize why timers suck dick in LW2

Remove every single map mod you have installed right now.

After failing around 50% of my missions because of the timers, i realized one simple thing that hit me like a motherfucking brick in the back of my head when i was playing a warehouse custom map.

Those fucking PCP maps are way too large for the intended uses of LW2 and vanilla, if you play on custom maps, you would need to dash 4 times in a row to get to the god damn objective.

However i started a clean game with my mods but without the maps and i started to realize that i could dash 1 or 2 times and be on top of the objective 80% of the time (out of 10 missions 2 were 3 dashes away with plenty of time to spare)

So either do that shit and remove every map, or edit the .inis and add 3 or 4 extra turns to Long War.

Use the mod i use since the game came out.

Is called Scamper Balanced and by god i fucking love this mod since it fixes my biggest grip of EU/EW.

Bassically what it does is when you activate a pod and they do their "oh shit we need cover" movement, it refunds you 1 movement/action point.

For example, if you have a squad of 6 and out of the 6 squad members, 4 dashed and the last one to move dashed into a pod, your 6 guys will get 1 point to look for cover or shot the pod, if your guy found 2 pods, you get 2 blue moves instead or yellow moves.

It comes in two flavors:
The one that lets you shot.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=634051073

Or the one that just gives you movment points to look for better cover.

>PCP maps are way too large
>PCPs are only range from being 16x16 tiles to 8x8 tiles
What you're looking for is plots and parcels

I've looked through the maps included in LW2, plots are massive and have much smaller spawn zones. Parcels have a few things that are in the wrong places, such as cover objects taking up too much space and eating up movement area.

I've sent a folder of revisions to JL, but at this time, editing the .ini seems like the best option

This isn't guerilla warfare you dumb ape nigger. Its playing Metal Gear XCOM for 8 turns as you concealment dash across the map, followed by 1 turn of """"action""""" before evacuating.

Spending 80% of a mission sneaking around because the maps are bigger than an XBox isn't fucking XCOM. Especially when the crux of the new gameplay revolves around making fights take longer. You don't get to engage in the new firefights or take in the new maps. At no point in LW1 did I ever feel this railroaded into playing every mission the exact same way.

I really want to have a vanilla LW2 experience but these timers are driving me nuts. I know it's a really stupid thing to be concerned about how "legit" my first run will be but I can't shake the feeling that I'm cheating if I adjust or disable the timers.

Also I don't really get what you're supposed to do with the infiltration. Should I _always_ aim for the 100% no matter how small the squad would be or is something like 70% reasonable? Do you get any penalties from skipping the mission?
>>
>>166099940
>it's a "I just want to mow down hordes of enemies with my squad of superheroes" post
M8 you're up against overwhelming odds when you attack ADVENT. It's only reasonable to be up shit creek if you get caught.

If ADVENT attacks you, there are no timers and you can yell "you shall not pass" all you want.

>>166100101
Infil% is just how many enemies there are, you do you.

But you do, so you didn't.
>>
>>166100101
infiltration % modifies the ammount of enemies on the mission, everything below 100% makes the advent presence stronger, everything above - weaker

>>166100490
I agree and I never had an issue with them in vanilla. They added urgency.

The problem is LW2 has fucking enormous maps. Even if you remove all ADVENT forces, it still takes 4-5 turns of dashing just to reach them. Thats nearly half most timers spent just moving to the objective.

I don't think its very XCOM of the mod to actively discourage you from, you know, fighting. Whats the point of even having soldiers promote if the ideal mission is one in which you never fire a shot?
>>
>>166100886
I thought Lump or Amineri or someone said the map sizes were the same. Maybe that was just the chunk sizes, or maybe the drop zone and objective are further on the same map size.

You level the soldiers so that when you fuck up and do need to engage, you 1. win, and 2. win quickly.
And for the timerless missions where you need to clear the map. Those do still exist.
>>
It wouldn't be so bad if the timers weren't a retarded design.

Self destructing cargo? Enemy fighters inbound before we've even been alerted?

Game design question:

What do you think is the balance rationale in the X-Com reboot (1 and 2) for letting the player use his first action to move, and then his second to shoot - but not the other way around? Why do you think the devs decided that if you want to fire as your first action, that's the only action you can take?

They at least made it in XCOM2 so that you could reload and then do something else in the same turn, but I'm still puzzled by the other thing. Do you think it would just make the game too easy or something? I'd argue you could make it more interesting if the enemies could do it too, then it would be balanced

But anyway, I'd like to hear your thoughts and see if you can persuade me that it's a good decision. It's just a bit jarring coming from the freedom the old X-Com gave you when engaging

well early 90s games were pretty intense in terms of complicated game rules. Lets not forget that moving in UFO Defense need time and energy units. I guess what im trying to say is that old xcom was complicated because it could be in its time period, and new firaxis knew them youngens dont want to stare and charts and graphs when playing a video game so they dumbed it down. Not that its a bad thing, I mean the 2 point system is kinda genre defying seeing how many "xcom" like games popped up in recent years. Heres another picture

Question about the character pool:

Is there any way to force a character pool dude to become the class I want him to be, always?

Say, a rookie from the pool is drafted into the first mission or first batch of recruits available in the barracks or to hire. I want that rookie to always become a Sharpshooter when he levels up - but as it stands he can become any class at random with the level up. How can I guarantee it?

Started playing Xcom 2 recently, I've encountered this strange bug I'm not sure if it's even a bug:

Sometimes on enemy turn some enemies move, attack and do stuff properly, and some just move without attacking. This looks rather stupid, like faceless walking up to a character behind heavy cover, stopping there and doing nothing.
I've seen people getting issues when all enemies skipping turns entirely, but I've only encountered it like once. Happens on veteran.

This is because they didn't have enough actions to do the hit, but they are melee and cannot take cover, so their AI tells them to get as close as possible.

The game hardly even functions like that in the first place, and long dong 2 does nothing to remediate this fact. More of a minor fix to glaringly bad strategy layer design and a minor improvement on glaringly bad combat design.

Tries to fix it. Fails at it, because fixing xcom means a completely different combat system.

What the gameplay in long war 2 comes down to is you try to avoid combat while speedrunning to objectives. Which is basically a design principle of "We want you to avoid playing the game"

It sucks at being a turn-based tactical splinter cell game they apparently want it to be, and it sucks at being a turn based tactical combat game they apparently don't want it to be.

Complete failure of design from the outset.

Can I tune it like Grimy's attrition mod? Replace threat of timers with endless spawning enemies? And after a set amount of waves it exponentialy grows?

>>166119263
On a technical/design level: No.

What they've done is dumped so many enemies into each level that you can't alpha strike everyone, and introduced short timers so that if you try to actually engage in a firefight you won't reach the objective in time.

Instead you're meant to avoid fighting the aliens and bumrush the objective like it's fucking valkyrie chronicles.

So all the interesting gameplay design that could and should happen regarding the combat system gets ignored because the base assumption is that you're not actually getting into combat in the first place. That's the ideal situation in long war 2: You don't fight at all.

It's beyond fucking stupid yet there's still like 5 autists in this thread riding long dong's dick and defending it.

I added one additional turn to the timers and and my enjoyment of LW2 raised significantly. I never had an issue with the timers in vanilla or my modded campaigns, but something about LW2 timer balance is fucked. It makes me wonder if the devs intended you to discard items to go fast but I need that stuff to keep people alive for fucks sake.

>>
>>166119847
There's no excuse for this piss poor gameplay design.

The timers aren't the actual problem - which seems to keep flying over your fucking head here.

The actual problem is that the long war 2 team refuses to recognize it's a problem. Which means it will never actually be fixed - lengthening the timers is a symptom of a game expressly designed around avoiding combat. All it does is ensures you have time to actually get into/out of combat, but it does nothing to fix the combat itself, and so long as long war 2's focus is on avoiding combat, combat itself will not be fixed.

I had hopes for this mod, but they completely fucked up. They tackled parts of the game that did not need tackling, while ignoring the elephant in the room.

The game needs a better initiative system, full stop. There needs to be significant focus on flanking - hidden unactivated pods are a serious issue for this that needs to be addressed, probably by a new initiative system - with combat being about pinning down the enemy so you can get around on them. Full Spectrum Warrior is better designed than xcom 2's combat system, because it puts a strong focus on maneuver and position rather than alpha strikes, cover destruction, or RNG. I'm not even sure there was any sort of serious pre-design done with xcom 2, it's like firaxis just threw shit at the wall without testing alternatives.

The second biggest issue the game's had is this absurd focus on RPG level up skill bullshit. Classes should be strongly defined, no level up crap. Turn them into set-pieces with optional adjustments introduced with weapons/equipment, not abilities. The only thing the RPG crap does is ensure balance issues from start to finish, while strongly punishing players for losing experienced units.

And like I said, long war 2 doesnt fix the biggest flaws in the game. They avoid and ignore those issues entirely - combat system sucks? Well, we don't want you to get into combat anyways.

Long war 2: Wasted Opportunity
>>
>>166119217
Please elaborate, angry friend. Do they still not get weapon mods or way to boost their accuracy?
>>
>>166120869

Also i forgot to mention, the biggest problem is the map sizes. Some of the Long War 2 maps are the size of the Forge, they are ENORMOUS. Even avoiding all pods and just stealthily rushing to the objective leaves you with little time left.
>>

How would you know about how different the combat is in Long Dong when you've complained about never being able to fight because of timers? Because with the way you're tackling the vanilla combat instead of Long Dong's (which you're fucking retarded if you think LW's combat plays like vanilla, this should be apparent on Gatecrasher alone) I can tell you're just trying to deflect the solution of lengthening the timers in order to bitch about something else.
>Turn them into set-pieces with optional adjustments introduced with weapons/equipment, not abilities
So I can lose really expensive equipment instead of a soldier I can replace through a scan or purchase at that point in the game? What a good alternative!
>The only thing the RPG crap does is ensure balance issues from start to finish
Again, you have no clue what you're fucking talking about. Vanilla, sure. Rangers and Grenadiers held an iron fist on everything. In Long Dong it evens the playing field alot better as you need to be overtuned to deal with that many tough enemies, which you'd know if you just extended the timers. I've personally extended my timers and I've been thoroughly enjoying the mix of cloak and dagger accompanied by thought out and tactical firefights. Don't say the combat is still fucked when you haven't actually tried it yet.
It also sounds like alot of your issues are with the fundamentals of X2 that you can't really "fix". In which case, no mod is going to help you. You may as well go back to EW.

what was the whole point of changing the Gatecrasher map?

the mechanic to completing Gatecrasher remains the same: ambush the 1st pod, and then overwatch trap the 2nd and 3rd pod. nothing changes beyond the map.

at least with the original Gatecrasher mission it feels like a rite of passage to a new campaign. you blow up an Elder statue ala pulling down the Hussein statue to let ADVENT know that we're here to fuck you up.

now instead you need 8 niggas to go ravage some little Sectoid's Chinatown corner store. you think ADVENT gives a shit about some little trooper's gamer house getting raided?

Not quite, but I am just starting my campaign. The first proper mission had 4-6 ayys per pod, with 4 pods in total, I think.
Kinda absurd for a tiny map.
>>
>>166125060
Infiltration is important. You basically have to deploy for missions days in advance in order to limit Advent's strength in the field. Skip any mission early on where you can't infiltrate a 4-6 member squad before the mission expires. If you're just a few hours short it doesn't matter much, 90% infiltration is still good enough. But if you get to 50% or lower infiltration be ready to fight endless waves of ayys as early as mission 3.
>>
>>166125390
Lad how many people did you bring into the mission, and what was the base enemy encounter size, and how long did it take to infiltrate?

The more people you bring into a mission, the longer it takes to infiltrate.
The higher the infiltration percentage is, the lower the number of enemies, going as low as "Extremely Light", which is 6-9 enemies.

You need to plan out that shit.
Here, this might help.

>>
Do we know if hiding resistance members cover more than just themselves? Aka is a haven with 1 guy hiding and 5 guys recruiting stealthier than a haven with just 5 guys recruiting?
>>
>>166125390
What? That's not right, did you follow directions and learn what the infiltration mechanic is and how to use it? Because you should have only gotten maybe 12 enemies at most. If you couldn't hit 100% infiltration, then you will get more enemies.

Save your squads of 10 for when you meet missions that have a 'kill everything' requirement. Since most missions now require you to evac to complete them and missions give the bulk of the experience on their own, there isn't a need to stay and fight everything.
>>
>>166125835
It lowers the overall chance of the haven being retaliated against.
>>
>>166125903
Right, but does it lower it by one guy's worth (meaning it's as if the haven just didn't have the guy doing job) or by more (meaning you can stack hiding guys to cover other ongoing activity as well)?

Gorilla School or AWC, it's a tossup. One gets you officers and trains rookies, the other gives you extra abilities and healing.
>>

You are going to want to get an officer going for your squads as soon as possible. Going on missions with an officer means that those soldiers will get bonuses that will make everything far easier the sooner you get them.

Officers can also be stationed at havens for even more bonus to finding faceless.

>>
Quick question from someone who is about to play lw2:
Does the mod change the end-game goal somewhat or will there still be the doomclock timer going down? Also, does it make the gameplay somewhat longer by allowing me to play more missions and fight against lower class enemy troops instead of being rushed into higher tier sooner?

Will the mod works fine/seamlessly with the DLCs?
>>
>>166131120
Yet people apparently aren't having problems with the timers at all and not even just because they are avoiding fights in the early game. I've gotten into at least a few engagements and killed 6 or so enemies and still managed to have retreating firefights while moving towards the objective and still pulling it off.

It's not hard. Just stop trying to dig in, or engaging in places where you are obviously going to get stuck because of bad cover options.

Unfortunately you can't please everyone. So far i've been enjoying it more then vanilla because I have more options for how to do missions then I did before, which was simply to blow everything up in one turn.

Hyper aggression was Xcom 2's game, stealth or good tactical plays is LW2. Only through getting rid of timers could you accommodate being methodical and if you want to do that, mod it in.

In my experience, I've had the timers drastically affect missions differently based on the maps. Without doing any missions on less than 100% infil, I've accomplished some with 3 or 4 turns remaining, while others are borderline impossible. If people have only have a few of one or the other, I could see how their experience with the mod may be drastically changed.

>>
>>166132910
I bet most of the problem is people getting screwed by NCE giving them soldiers with shitty mobility.

Sometimes people are also going to have to learn to sacrifice those utility slots for that little extra movement range. Not everyone needs grenades and flashbangs.
>>
>>166132910
Actually, let me elaborate further. I like the concept of the timers and how it theoretically promotes more smash & grab tactics as opposed to constantly overwatch trapping when you should be operating in enemy territory.

However, I've had missions in LW2 where I've initiated contact on the very first turn, dashed people on each turn, left people out of cover, on 100+% infiltration, and still have not had time to get an objective in time. That's clearly a problem. IMO, adding 1 or 2 turns to the timers wouldn't affect gameplay drastically, but would prevent some of this nonsense from happening.
>>
>>166132949
Throw/launch grenades away from your squad's position to attract pod's attention.

Some missions its better to just take the Alert and throw that shit so you can move ahead.
>>
I think I've run into a bug - my Resistance Havens have vanished from the geoscape. They can still be managed through the panel in the commander's quarters, but I can't pass time on the geoscape by scanning any more. Has anyone else run into this? I blame the maps, yesterday i did a mission where i had to rescue 3 people from a cell, i avoided every pod and just dashed all the way to the objective, and by the time i got there i was almost out of time. If i had stopped to fight even 1 pod i would have failed the mission.

The problem isn't the timers imo, the problem is that some maps are way too big.
>>
>>166133825
I still have yet to get a mission that had a timer lower than 11 or a map large enough for it to matter regardless.

I dunno what to tell you guys.
Maybe I'm just getting lucky. Its been quite comfortable so far though.
>>
>>166132909
Long War removed the aim penalties I believe. Which is good imo, because timers already kicked snipers hard, no need to add insult to injury.
>>
>>166133825
Lets assume you have 10 mobility on everyone of your soldiers and that you have 10 turns on a map. 10 mobility is extremely low, and 10 turns seems to be below the average for my experience with long dong 2.

This means that if you dash every single turn you will be able to move 100 units and still evac.

I don't really know how big the maps are, but this seems like an easy way to determine if the map timers match the mobility restrictions of shitty operatives.

Personally I tend to play 12 turn missions with ~13 mobility (on average) operatives on long dong veteran difficulty and I've been mostly fine. Usually finishing with several turns leftover even after fighting 2-3 pods. There was one mission that I finished with only 1 turn left though but only because I was an idiot and blew up the evac zone.

LW2 is just too...weird. In LW1 some things made sense, but the map size + the number and positioning of enemies is just too much for me. I mean, I'm doing a new campaign now and the pods are all one blue move away, so you can't even try to flank the ayyys. JL needs to rethink some shit on his conception of gaming, honestly.
>>
>>166140713
LW1 was a mod that increased the depth and challenge to the base game.

LW2 is a mod that makes it difficult for the sake of difficulty.

It's literally the whole 'DARK SOULS SO HARD XDDD' mindset.

I think even on Legendary, the game always gave you the means to deal with whatever came your way, while LW1 gave you a lot more to deal, but also had a bunch of resources that could make the cock slide in more easily. Lump's philosophy in designing the mod seems to be to literally turn the player to a child, take away every resource he might have and then make everything bigger.

>>166140980
I'm not even having that much trouble, haven't lost anyone yet. But it gets VERY dull to spend 3+ turns walking (I'm on my 18th mission, 3rd campaign and had to spend a lot of time just walking in ALL of them), but it's just so poorly thought out.

it actually is though. the feeling of relief knowing that you made it out on a tough VIP mission with all your guys and the VIPs with only 1 turn left is second to none. the anxiety that comes with knowing it's gonna happen again keeps each mission tense. sorry you're made because you can't overwatch/shinobi scout every mission now like some kind of cheesing faggot.

you're fucking blinded by how nearly perfect the last year of LW1 was. it was a masochist mess for a long long time. maybe dry your tears a little bit with the hem of your mum's house coat and make it harder by upping the difficulty since you're so amazing.

Nothing is ever 'free' dude. With great power comes a heavy responsibility.

One of the thing that I really would want to know if there is ever a continuation of an XCOM game (post-war book, FPS game, etc.) is what happens to the modified soldiers. Be them Psy-Operatives, MEC, Gene Mod or just 'plain' PSTD from all the things the Operatives lived through.

Calm down Lump, the fact that it took what, 16 versions, for you to make Long War playable (if we ignore air game, not really your fault though) should've given you a little insight about balancing, and the moddability and Firaxis support should've taught you something as well.

I don't understand how you think having to take 20% pot shots because the enemy won't leave cover, you can't move without trigering 6+ enemies and your grenades won't damage cover is good design, nor why you're so willing to defend these guys, but it should be obvious to anyone with more than 2 hours of play in both modern X-Coms that the two games are very different and the sort of shit that worked for one won't work for the other.

Then you'll tell me I shouldn't alpha strike everyone or that I should stealth or something, but EVERY mission and every type of mission has the same "Huge map with 6 pods enclosed in a 10x10 tile area" FROM THE VERY FIRST MISSION.

My dude I've spent the last 10 minutes on fucking gatecrasher because there's literally no other option, don't you fucking tell me to pick my battles because in this very instance the game won't even let me.

Of course I won't send my rank 3 rookies with balistic weapons and kevlar armor against a 15+ ultra-fortified ADVENT facility, this is not the problem and you should honestly stop pretending LW is perfect and realize my problem with the mod has nothing to do with any of your tipical RNG or timer complaint, I have I/I on both vanilla and LW2 and L/N on vanilla, I'm not a shitter, I just don't want to turn every mission into either a goesfast shinobi spam or a boring potshot fight, there is very clearly a middle ground and just like the autist he is, JL failed to recognize it once again.

I haven't talked about reducing timers a single time, you're just implying shit because...I don't know, Lump must be your dad or something.

From the top of my head, since I've only played in my spare time and was waiting for the weekend to truly start playing and thinking about the game, something that could make the game a lot less boring was a alpha strike mechanic, for example, in which you would regain concealment if you managed to wipe the pod before they move, smaller maps, make pods spawn farther from each other, patrols that don't make the pods casually walk into the objective, individual concealment rather than squad, allowing you to split your soldier spawn points, true concealment (which I never used but probably will, since you keep bringing timers up) and so on and so on

Do bigger squads inherently increase enemy presence, or is it just indirectly through the longer infiltration? In other words, is a large squad strictly better as long as I can still achieve extremely light presence?

Squad size only effects infiltration time and thus infiltration percentage.

Curious about save-scumming. Do the results actually have a chance to change on, say, shooting somebody when you reload a save?
>>
>>166146301
saves are seeded RNG, so if you save right before trying to shoot somebody you will get no difference. However, let's say you have 2 shots to take, a 60% and an 80% and the first time you try it only the 80% hits. If you take the shots in a different order, you may find a different result (better or worse).
