Why does no one appreciate the shotel / moonlight curved sword?
>>

>>
I want to make a character for mid level invasions, primarily Irithyll.
What kind of build would I need?
>>
>>165956698

Dragonslayer axe build
>>
>>165956563
>shotel
in ds3 it's an inferior carthus shotel which is an inferior corvian scythe
>moonlight curved sword
virtually one of the worst weapons in ds3 because it's reminiscent of crystal ring shield, worst shield in ds1
>>
>>165956563

They're both only 'alright' curved swords that have objectively better options in every way. Shotel is outdamaged and outranged by Carthus Shotel rendering it obsolete. Crescent Moon Sword needs a 40/40 DEX/INT build optimally and its AR even for a split damage weapon is subpar with the WA beam being goof for jackshit.

>>165956452

Then why are you asking dumbass
>>
>>165960819
You get good.
It's not as hard as it sounds, SL20 is enough to have the stats for some weapons + alright VIG for that level. With decent mid/late-game armour you won't actually take as much damage as you'd expect. Just gotta remember to sippy if you take a bad hit because you don't have the health pool to tank more than one or two hard slaps from most later-game bosses.
>>
>>165960293
>Why use spook? Don't rings for that exist?
Because spook does the same thing as if you had 2 different rings equipped at the same time, slumbering dragoncrest and cat ring. If you use spook when you need fall damage reduction you can put more important rings on instead.
>And I can't cast hidden weapon and a buff at the same time, can I?
Hidden body is what you should use. In dks 3, it makes you almost completely invisible even with phantom colors. If you wear untrue dark ring for host colors and cast it, you can walk right up to people and they won't see you a lot of the time

>Miyazaki was leading the development of Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 simultaneously, and I think that when doing so, some of his ideas for Bloodborne leaked into Dark Souls 3.

No, he was working on Bloodborne and Dark Souls 2 DLC simultaneously. By the time Dark Souls 3 started development, he was no longer actively participating as a designer but was just directing/overseeing as company president.

>Look at the combat for Dark Souls 3. It's pretty fast paced, with attacks coming out fairly quickly compared to previous souls games, perhaps barring Demon's Souls. Rolls also are swift and doesn't have too many recovery frames. Healing is kind of fast as well.

>The biggest thing that stuck out to me was, as you pointed out, the enemies. They're incredibly fast, even being able to start up attacks and hitting you during your own attack animation depending on your weapon.

>The main problem with this is that Bloodborne was (for the most part) balanced around the rally mechanic and healing the damage you took in order to maintain an extremely fast paced, fluid combat system. Dark Souls 3 lacks this mechanic, yet retains some of the speed of Bloodborne.

Dark Souls 3 runs on the same game engine (physics and graphics) as Bloodborne. That's where the similarities come from. Bloodborne was designed for Bloodborne Dark souls 3 took that and modified it to fit dark souls game mechanics.

I wouldn't say overrated, really. I mean, it's subjective but I think Solaire was a pretty well realized character and had a good and proper story arc that has a good and a bad end. Solaire, Eileen and Hawkwood are probably my favorite Soulsborne npcs in terms of how their character story arcs are executed.

As far as overrated things go, Pontiff is vastly overrated meme character that boils down to essentially "Fume Knight but fast". I like Pontiff tho' because he's the closest to being a Souls Hitler but he's overrated as hell in this general.

I get settlement invasions as a 26, you can probably at least go to 36 in the keep.
>>
>>165962132
You might not have to "finish the game" but getting really really far will allow you to have access to a lot of things and very importantly a ton of estus and if you also take the time have them at +10. I mean just to get the prisoners chain you have to get passed dancer, ocieros, and gunder which are kinda into the game a bit. And if you're crazy like me, you get passed ds armor and into the archives for that avelyn/exploding bolts.

By the time someone kills vordt they should have at least tacked on another 10 levels. 26 can invade down to 23.

He only has that kind of following on /v/ and /vg/. Pretty much noone's memeing him outside of this cesspool of degenerates.
>character
Souls characters are pretty shit in general. Can you name something remarkable about Orny aside from him being a knight and killing a couple of dragons? Or Arty, excluding that part where he's just a phony raped by demon cock? Or Sif, who was designed precisely to be a cheap not-Hachiko tearjerker? The best kind of characters are those that talk during the fight, like Micolash or Oceiros.
At least Sulyvahn did more than just thing, kind of.
>essentially "Fume Knight but fast"
That's not half bad, although I would add that his second phase is more like a Darklurker. And he also was not a bad boss.

STR is viable due to needing less stats compared to a basic quality build meaning you have more room to pump VIG/END/VIT depending on what you need. Yhorm's Great Club and Great Club are the only ultras I'd consider good but you have other good options for STR as well like Gundyr's Halberd and the Millwood Battle Axe.

It's great and should've been a part of the game originally. 66STR lets you get 99STR when 2H. Before the poise changes, that was the most common STR build. 60 STR doesn't lose much damage over 66STR and those 6 extra levels of VIT can help poise through things.

>why so many people hate 120

I only see that here, and it's a pattern, I remember in Bloodborne /bbg/ also vouched for a lower SL meta. In fact outside of /dsg/ I see many people going 140-150 which is mind boggling. The only people that I see going below 120-125 are invaders, because meta level invasions are pure cancer. I think 125 is alright, all my characters are that level, I like the feel of having completed builds that still need to sacrifice something if you want extra vitality, faith for denial, etc.
>>
>>165965928
In Bloodborne, people called for a 98 meta because it dodged everyone from reddit with their 150 builds. It really only held for public invasions and fight clubs, while co-op is any level at all, thanks to level bypass from passwords.
>>
>>165965928
I have a 120 character that I leveled up just so I could replace my priestess ring with a untrue ring. Technically I made it worse, added 0.1 units of weight. though I can throw the priestess back on if I feel like using vow of silence for funsies.
>>
>>165966071
How does the co-op password system actually scale your character?
>>
>>165965928
lower level duelfaggot pvp metas are absolutely retarded because there's always lower build diversity and one or two super-viable setups that make everything completely irrelevant

It barely scales them at all. It tones down the damage a lot but still stronger than they should be, their endurance is almost untouched and their health is dropped a bit. They can still wield any weapons they could wield before being downscaled, they still get the huge bonus to resistances that you get just from leveling and they can still use spells that require 50+ INT even if they're downscaled to SL 20.

>>
>>165966353
The "98 meta" in Bloodborne is a bit of a hoax, it was originally made for dodging reddit 150s, but is more or less irrelevant outside of public invasion. Since most people on the PvP front just do fight clubs, it's not particularly followed, but most people in fight clubs stick to 98 (though plenty of people have admitted to going far higher).

The Hunter's Dream made me realize how fucking cozy the Majula Mansion could've been if the player could set their base in there and storage would be handled by an armory/store room and you could use the giant book to attune spells and so on. Bloodring builds are not more OP than the typical quality curved sword build.

I'm super biased though because I love my scumbag dagger thief and the win rate with it is stupidly high, beating even said curved sword shitters. I don't want the fun to end.
>>
>>165967981
There's almost no actual way I think. The only way that occurs to me is grab a friend/player who you know has absolutely no chance of being been softbanned, then try to PW summon each other. If you can't see the signs, then chances are one of you is on a cheater servers. This is null if PW summons bridge the servers.
>>
>>165966353
There's way more build diversity at 100 because there are actual builds. At 120 there's "guy with melee weapon" and "guy with melee weapon with 6 different magic buffs". Strength builds are pointless because even if you go 60 strength, softcapped vig, softcapped endurance and high vit you still have points left over and nowhere to put them.
>just put them into faith so you can use Tears + a weapon buff!
Like everybody else does? Is that what you consider build variety? Go onto any youtube video of dks 3 and see what people complain about.
>WAAAH EVERYBODY HITS TOO HARD
Considering everybody is unembered in the arena and you have almost 60 points put into weapon scaling alone, no fucking shit.

>WAAAH EVERYBODY USES CURVED SWORDS
If they tried to used a 40/40 quality at 100 they'd have to lower some stats for that extra damage. Less end for rolls, less vig for making mistakes, no faith for defensive spells, no vit for heavy armor which means they can't use weapons with hyper armor.

>WAAAH CASTERS AREN'T GOOD WITHOUT 120
Casters have naturally higher damage, longer range and are unpredictable because you can't see what spells they're using and what spell they currently have prepared. They at least need some sort of downside. I mean fuck, there was a guy in the threads yesterday who was shitting on people on a lvl 100 caster

Honestly, would it make a good weapon for element infusion? Curved greatswords have okay-ish hyperarmor and quick attacks so I would think it could make a good rush alternative.

>>165968865
The question is if it's worth infusing. I mean, there's literally no other reason to choose it over exile greatsword but when you're infusing a weapon with elements you're cutting base damage from the total plus making your output split.
>>
>>165968338

>There's way more build diversity at 100 because there are actual builds. At 120 there's "guy with melee weapon" and "guy with melee weapon with 6 different magic buffs". Strength builds are pointless because even if you go 60 strength, softcapped vig, softcapped endurance and high vit you still have points left over and nowhere to put them.

At 120 assuming a Warrior start you can get 60 STR, 15 DEX, 39 Vigor and 40 Endurance with just enough points to get up to 21 Vitality which still isn't a lot. You by no means have an excess of points and considering how Vigor is useless past 39/44 there's no reason to take out from Vitality and gouge that.

>If they tried to used a 40/40 quality at 100 they'd have to lower some stats for that extra damage. Less end for rolls, less vig for making mistakes, no faith for defensive spells, no vit for heavy armor which means they can't use weapons with hyper armor.

Most quality weapons are fast already excluding greatswords and halberds which have enough reach/speed to shit on ultras without HA as is.

You can also reach SL 100 with 39 Vigor, 38 Endurance and 27/40 STR/DEX to reach the softcap while 2handing which is optimal with most weapons anyway so quality doesn't really suffer at all from lowering it to 100.

Well assuming you're running base stats to use it, which are already pretty high for pyro, you'll have 341 AR. If you go Chaos with 40/40 (which isn't hard to do if you're going to SL120) then it has 557.

I'm not as knowledgable about split damage, but I'd think the difference is big enough.
>>
>>165969112
>1 stat shit
AKA builds AKA specs AKA specialization. 40/40 cancer can totally be pulled off at 100, you just have to actually take risks and be responsible with your points. It's the "have your cake and eat it too" scenario all over again. At 120, you specialize in too much shit. You can be a strength build who also has high dex, while also having high faith while also having high int, all while having softcapped vigor. You can wear heavy armor, while casting spells, with 1400 hp unembered while also having enough stamina to R1 spam an ultra weapon and still roll away after 3 swings. It's like playing a fighting game where Ryu is the only character on the roster, but every once in a blue moon you see a Ken instead.

You can't fit that in a single build. And just like anon said, 27/40 at 100 is just as strong as 120 quality, it still isn't making sacrifices and will still beat quality and be good at poise stacking only losing on some str weapons.

>SL meta

I'm not going to speak for all casters, but my all-caster actually benefits from lower SL. My health and damage get scaled down pretty proportionally, but my regen is the same either way. If everyone had half health and did half damage, the 15 faith regen miracle would effectively feel like the 35 faith miracle. Considering I've got gentle prayer and bountiful light, I'm pretty well off in that regard. for a clearer example, look at how well poison works while twinking vs while in ta 120 arena.

On top of that, a 35/35 (60 points) crystal chime has as much spellbuff as a 50 faith yorshka's chime (60 points total if you've got 10 int) and more than any int stave (though it's short and doesn't have a stave weaponart). At low levels where you're proportionally going to have a lot of both stats anyway (10/20 isn't as big a split as 10/60 for example), the split scaling helps you hit like a fucking truck.

If I had my way I'd make the meta 110 though, and kill the refined infusion or something. Either way, stuff like ye-ole sl80 meme is far worse than 120, and I'd probably still take 120 over 100. 120 is good for stuff like 26/40 + 25 fai, helps the knight class, and motivates vig leveling.

No, you didn't, because I posted only one clip of me accidentally trying to cast black flame from my chime against someone who goofed up and accidentally pressed l2 with parting flame and literally nothing else. One anecdotal instance of spaghetti isn't really conclusive data. I had plenty of actually difficult duels with washingpolers, but I can't post them since they're long as fuck due to the fact that i'm relying on regen and darts. but a lot of other people were bad enough to beat purely with black flame if you're curious

Except 27/40 twohanding already has dramatically lower AR than a 40/40 twohanding the same weapon, and changing 40 vig/40 end to 39vig/38end is already more varied than "softcap this, softcap this, softcap this and softcap this, I now have A WHOLE 4 POINTS to put wherever I want".

knight is better for when you can afford to put points on all/most stats and just want to save on luck. If you need the 9/9 anyway for GFS or something and want an attunement slot, knight comes out better than warrior if you at least prefer +4 vit to +4 luck.

Favor is probably better than chloranthy.

Go for 27 vig and at least like 20 end or something.

>>
>>165973516
i-frames in rolls determine whether or not you'll get the shit slapped out of you if the enemy hits you during the roll.

In DS2 you start with these really low, and the higher you pump agility the faster your animations and the better your iframes. Taking adapt to 20 is pretty much the standard.
>>
>>165973461
Solaire is just a really strong guy with unwavering faith but unfortunately also quite naive.

It's a shame he became such a stupid meme character because judged separate from that he's pretty cool for such a simple character.

So we can all agree that DS3 wasn't as bad as DS2, but is still really bad compared to DS1?

>Inb4 "nostalgiafag"
Behold the list of things that DS1 did objectively better than DS3
>Weapon variety (As in, how different they are to play)
>Build variety
>Level+area design
>Enemy design (Every enemy felt unique, that can't be said about DS3)

Should I just level to sl 120 anyway? I mean I've been invading and dueling people at that range anyway or maybe I should just stick to it?
>>
>>165972651
Everyone already explained ADP.

There aren't really any shit stats to invest in, everything is useful in one form or another.

Keep in mind that elemental damage is a derived stat from FAI and INT, so how you level them will impact how strong your casting is. Weapons also have elemental scaling, so spell-blading is super good in this game. It's semi-confusing, but consistent.

You'll want at least some physical damage and HP to survive the early game, the first area can be pretty brutal with its mobs. FAI doesn't really get good until at least mid-game since Lightning Spear has been over-nerfed and never really recovered.

If you can afford it, get a Heide Knight Sword early on, it will serve you well on a Cleric build.

>Bloodring builds literally are just quality builds with the blood ring

Yes but it only works well with hit and run weapons, like katanas. Ones that often end in trading like curved swords are shit with the bloodring

>it doesn't affect quickstep iframes anon, that's probably why you've been under the impression it doesn't make too much a difference

I'm using it on a Corvian Greatknife, which doesn't have quickstep. Bloodring makes me able to roll into spam without being hit and interrupt it with a quick running attack and giving them a taste of my own R1 spam. The damage adds up pretty quickly if they don't roll away fast, and even if they do my rolling attacks and R1s harass them to death.

It's pretty fun to go against curved sword shitters, they can take a lot of my HP if they catch me with a hit (doesn't help that the stun of the dagger is short enough that if I trade they can often get another hit in before i can roll) but I can actually interrupt their spam and punish them severely if they want to keep mashing, they have to be more cautious and be always ready to roll away.

Don't get me wrong, my build is a pretty shitter build as well, but it's almost unused and pretty fun to play as. I got a lot of hatemail with it too.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier, I had some things to do so probably you won't see it.

The main reason why gimmicks need some refreshing factor that doesn't trivialize gameplay in every encounter. It's like the Ancient Wyvern's ohko plunge which shouldn't even be a thing but they should at the very least make the boss incapacitated by removing 1/4 of it's hp. you didn't play DS2, did you?

The only time a weapon breaks in DS2 is if you spam it by attacking with the hilt (halberds or scythes), drench yourself in acid, or have a 30 minute fight against someone way above your level.

Those are all situations where the weapon breaking would make sense and be an incentive to strategize your attack and weapon choices.

Ive earned about 11 tongues in around 3 hours in the pontiff area at lvl 68 with a +7 great club, If i dont invade into a gank squad its a host at the bonfire summoning 2 phantoms as soon as i zone in which is basically the same fucking thing, not to mention the lag, i cant rollcatch anyone in DaS3 for shit and i know im doing it properly because i can rollcatch the NPC invaders, it seems like even if im ontop of someone my great club will go through them and then they roll like nothing happened and then they will stick an estoc in me from 10 foot away, i just dunno how ill get 19 more tongues senpai...

Is it true that in DS2 blunt weapons were OP because no AI enemies had armour against it? Is that still a thing in SOTFS? What about DS3?
>>
>>165978851
Because swords break if you blindly attack a dude 50-60 times

Weapons in DS2 have ~1/4th the per-hit durability of weapons in DS1, but restore it every time you rest at a bonfire.

The only time durability was an issue was in the release version of SOTFS before it was patched, when the game would wear weapons down 2x as fast because the durability mechanic had been broken from the 30 to 60 fps change, and it was patched immediately afterward.

You might live in a region where you fight people at a sweetspot weapon level but once you upgrade past it, it's probably gonna be dead for awhile.

>>165979156
Strike, thrust, and slash do the same damage against ~70% of the AI enemies in DS2. The other 30% resist either slash or thrust or both, but no one resists strike. It's not OP, but it is highly consistent against everything.

Another reason strike is good is because enemies that are big, powerful, and highly resistant to the other two (slash, thrust) tend to be very weak to strike.

Because DS2 and DS3 are the same, and hard swapping a multiple copy is how you get around DS1, DS2, AND DS3 durability. So are you just shitposting now or do you have a point?

DS1 is the only game where you have to repair by spending souls, and all that means is that the only time a weapon breaks in DS1 is if you completely ignore durability for 2/3rds of the game.

Depends on your SL and, more specifically, on your vigor

The first 27 vig levels add a lot of HP compared to the later ones. Unless you're OVER 27 vig, the +0 through +2 life rings won't add five levels worth of vigor, which means they're essentially inferior to stat rings like the priestess or hunter's ring. If you've got at least 5 dex, you can just lower you dex 5 points, up your vigor five points, then throw on the knight's ring instead of using the life ring. The +3 ring (found in ng+2) gives you more than 5 levels worth with only 27, but it only gives HP, not "vigor levels," so you miss a little flat defense. Really good past 27 though.

The chain is a good means of hitting 27, but not good for going past it. Going from 27 to 32, you add only 9.2% hp, and the damage penalty is bigger in pvp (13-15%) all for 5 end. Use a +5 ring instead.

>>165979380
RoSP doesn't really give +15% phys abs in pvp. And the more absorption you add, the less of it you actually get, and stuff that gives you defense and offense increases seems to be less effective in pvp. Sacred oath is essentially no better than grass. You'll get like 7-8% less damage intake tops from the +2 ring; life is better.

Rather than an absorption cap, I think it's actually just that the bonuses are added sequentially rather than compoundly. So if you've got two pieces of armor that add 50% abs each, instead of getting 50+50=100% absorption, you cut off 50% of an attacks damage, then 50% of the remaining halve, thus removing only 75%. That would explain why you don't get diminishing returns from single pieces (even big ones), but get less than what you think you paid for when you start stacking (even small ones). It's why I try to wear really light arms and keep most my weight on my chest; chestplates give more absorption per unit of weight usually, and if I keep most of my benefits on one piece, I'll avoid most the adverse effects of splitting it up amongst multiple parts.

> Is it just your own testing?
Kinda? I did a fair bit of math for a different game and managed to guess the code, saw the numbers change when I switched armor on this game and it kinda looked the same. That's about it aside from the ring penalties, which some youtuber found, but I think the sequential addition makes them over pronounced in his video.

39 vig is considered the high-vig sweetspot by most people. With that and favor/life +2/3, you get 1801 HP, which is exactly three +10 estus flasks assuming you aren't head (aka have at least 1 hp, with 1800 remaining). It's also the last level to give 13 hp. If you're autistic like me, you'll usually try stopping just before a drop (see https://unkindler.github.io/caps/, and don't trust the endurance values on here or mugenmonkey because the rounding with favor multiplication screws with them). Some people go to 44. 49 is the closest thing to a hardcap aside from level 99. Generally the levels past 39 aren't super worth it since you can get more for less by just going to 15 faith for replenishment. With one attunement slot and 10 faith, you can throw on the +5 faith ring to cast stuff like replenishment then just swap it back off. You don't even need to meet chime requirements. Even if your spell only runs for half the duration (aka you aren't hit for the first 30 seconds of a duel and aren't instakilled before the one minute mark), you get 150 hp, and could get up to 300 over all 60 seconds. Going from 39 to 49, with the 30% ember bonus and both life and favor, gives you only 146 for basically twice the SL investment, and unembered or without rings the difference only becomes more glaring. On top of that, priestess and sun princess weigh the same, so if you cast replenishment then swap to sun princess you get 7 hp/s for 60 seconds, followed by 2 hp/s as long as you keep the ring on.

Yes, because it's a completely different game from dark souls and probalby going to have its own fans.

[spoilers]mostly fans of dark souls who don't actually like dark souls but just want flashy melee fantasy combat without feeling like a weaboo[/spoiler]

>>165980282
If you're faith you're a little limited in terms of properly good weapons. You could grab the DSA, make it raw and then lightning blade it, there's also a weapon in the DLC, the Onyx Blade, that's pretty good on faith and pyro's, IIRC.
>>
>>165983280
Your real absorption is actually shown on the stat page, the only things that are missing are the additional pvp penalties. For pve it's accurate, diminishing returns an all. Aside from pvp penalties (defense penalties get a bit bigger, defense bonuses get a bit worse, and I think the same goes for offense or something even though double moron blades and rtsr still fucking hurt a lot), knowing how any of this works isn't actually important.

Suppose you've been given the option to have 20+20 or 10+30 (or 30+10, order doesn't matter).
If I shave off 20% of an incoming 100 damage, that leaves 80, then if I shave off 20 of that I get 64 left over.

If I shave off 30% of the 100, I'm down to 70, then if I shave off 10% of that, I'm at 63 left over, meaning I take one point less.

By going form 20+20 to 10+30 you're basically just getting closer to 0+40, which shaves off 40%, leaving 60.

You can also sorta cheat the rounding on lighter arms since the amount of absorption they add gets closer and closer to the measurement resolution (you can only see down to one decimal place). Compare cornyx's wrap to fire keeper cloves, or compare the pale shade set to the court sorcerer set.

There are actual armor minmaxers you can find.
>>

how does that work? everything I've seen of Nioh has it looking much more "japanese" than pretty much anything in Dark Souls. I don't even usually count DaS as a weeb series, just like Monster Hunter, the "weeb" elements are limited to flashy bosses and oversized weapons.
>>
>>165983940
Nice spoilers dumb dumb.

I agree though, I hate those faggots saying For Honor is the sucessor to DaS's PvP. There already are better fantasy melee simulator games out there with better animations. That's not what I play DaS for at all.

>>
>>165984135

>>
>>165984039
-oh, and if you actually just look at armor in general, the absorption per unit of weight on chests is the best, followed by legs, head, and arms (which is also the order they usually rank in weight). Obviously it's better to have more of your mass committed to the efficient mass than the inefficient mass.
>>
>>165984049

Use 26/40 str/dex with 25 faith and gargoyle flame spear/TPGS (hardswap between them, they both have the same weight). They've got D/D scaling in int and faith, but give you more AR if you level one or the other instead of splitting your investment across both. They're both good weapons, TPGS's only problem is that it has no r2 pokes, but you can cover that by swapping to the spear as needed. Spear has a shitty rolling attack, but other than that it's fantastic.

High faith is a little harder to use though.

Is difficulty just a pattern you have to memorize? Is it just good clean fun, video gamey?

Is it vitality, or the number of mistakes you can make, and the number of successes you need to win? This is also super duper video gamey.

Or is it strategy, learning the weaknesses of your foe, either in a dynamic action-oriented way, or a traditional methodic role-playing way like dungeons and dragons?

As somebody who actually thought it was going to be some shitty souls clone and intentionally ignored the first demo, it's a fucking amazing game.

Tons of combo potential, unlockable skills, large loot system, actual depth and skill ceilings involved when it comes to stance/ki management, you can fully customize/remap your button layout however you want, even set your own button combinations for certain skills if you want to.

Bosses are great, enemy design is good, combat feels great, all of the levels have a "Normal" and "Twilight" aka hard mode, builds are more varied than the souls games and there's even an option between "1080p/30fps" for the braindead casuals and "900p/60fps" for people who want to actually learn to improve at the game.

It's partially because it's now earned the title of least disappointing sequel in Dark Souls history.

It's partially because it has a lot of aspects that are now appreciated far more given that III either neglected or ignored them entirely.

And it's partially because the disappointment that existed upon launch is not nearly as prominent as it once was.

It will never be my favorite, but I can genuinely say I appreciate it more now than I originally did.

Basically, Nioh isn't a souls game taken in a new direction, it's a hack and slash that is taking inspiration from souls. It's very good at being that.

For honor isn't a souls game taken in a new direction. It's a class-based MOBA/Fighter that is taking inspiration from souls.

In order for something to actually have the same appeal as souls, it needs:
>Varied moveset high-feedback melee combat (this is where most hack and slash games are better than souls, and some RPGs (KH, FFXV, OoT, Tales) does the same thing but with RPG mechanics)
>Third person RPG progression mechanics (Levels with traps, items, collectibles, upgrades)
>Unified currency for both rewards/punishments, upgrades, and leveling up. (Another AC staple)
>Marginal stat complexities, each stat does multiple things and there are consequences to leveling something up. Not like Nioh's "increase this to do more damage with X weapons" stat. Very VERY few games do this, mostly only From games (starting with armored core) and these kind of systems is what they specialize in.
>Lore-driven story with player-insertion characters, told mostly through descriptions, with completely indirect characterization of enemies

Most games have only the first two things, like Nioh. Some might have the first three. But almost NONE have the latter two, which is what From does better than anyone else.

Armored Core gives you the last 3, but not the first two, and that's why it's closer to souls in terms of mechanics than something like Nioh.

Only souls has all 5.

As someone who got into DaS2 via SotFS and thoroughly enjoyed it, I can respect that people can't forgive B Team for how shit the game was at launch. From the WebMs of launch gameplay and how they had the gall to charge for SotFS all over again, it's definitely something I would have been pissed about too.

I mean, now that you can buy SotFS for like $5-10 during a sale, it's not nearly that bad anymore. But the problem is that it shouldn't have had to cost anything in the first place to those who bought at launch (look what Bethesda did with Skyrim Special Edition), and it's little better than a single-player experience now that DaS3 is the currently active game.
>>
>>165986354
A staple of From games that no one else seems to emulate:

>Everything you need to beat the game using any play style you want is available within the first 5 minutes. However, you have to master all of those tools simultaneously in order to win.

Dark Souls is a weird case because you can still level up, which takes a long time but makes you absolutely powerful, so while you technically get everything you need early on, you can't master it until you put in more time arbitrarily.

Souls fans fall into two categories. The type that enjoy the fact that Souls leans more toward the "RPG" style where you level up and progress and get stronger, and those that like the "AC" style where you do SL1 runs and crunch a lot of numbers and optimize.

>>165986582
That was one of the innovations of AC back in the Ps1 days. "Repairing your health after a mission, restoring your ammo, buying new equipment, and your rewards for how well you do USE THE SAME CURRENCY!" so you couldn't just focus on one thing, you had to be good at everything to manage your finances properly. Souls does the same thing, and quite well.
>>
>>165986354
There's also the integrated asymmetrical multiplayer aspect of it. The invasion system is something that I've only actually seen outside of Souls games in one instance, and one that isn't even trying to be a Souls-like.

In reference to >>165959704, is GMW actually any good compared to like, flame arc/resin?

Even if you don't want any attunement and are going for the warrior's 11 vit for some reason, merc comes out better for dex builds and it's got a slot and 10 int on the base, which lets you swap to scholar for GMW anyway. And on a deprived twink you could also do this as opposed to using flame arc or blessed weapon. Flame arc with a +2 flame and 10/12 gives 93, then goes to 95 with a +4 flame, which is the same as the better resins but with a 90 sec duration. Does GMW beat resin? Does it beat it enough to compensate for only having 2/3rds of flame arc's duration?

I don't think multiplayer is necessary to make a souls game, but yes it's definitely something the game does really uniquely.

From has been doing Co-op campaigns (with reduced rewards for co-op, harder bosses, etc.) and arena matchmaking since AC4, but invasions is a Souls exclusive thing that they came up with.

One of the things I did like about 2 was the idea of stats pulling on eachother, or secondary stats which were the lowest of one or the other stat. I barely liked the fact that souls has leveling up at all, from everything I've seen Nioh moves this to KH/Tales levels of "level up to get stronger and keep up with the increasing enemy damage" arbitrary-ness.

Souls leveling up is alright because it doesn't actually make the game any easier usually, but just lets you equip and use more things and have more options when fighting.

Line chart is on the left Axis for post-defense damage. Gold is base, silver is with sunlight blade on canvas talisman at 30 faith, I believe.

Bar chart is on the right axis for level investment.

The damage numbers aren't accurate though, just approximate, I actually figured out a more accurate damage formula but never re-made the chart for the new formula. Lower AR weapons do higher damage than what the chart indicates (the game actually uses 3 different damage formulas depending on the ratio of AR to defense, that chart only accounts for the middle of the two formulas)) but the higher AR weapons are fairly accurately displayed on the chart.

This chart shows the damage formulas more accurately. The reason buffs were considered is because some weapons can't be buffed but have very high base damage.

>>165989730
My ideal souls game:

Your softcaps are determined by weapon upgrade. So +2 weapon doesn't do more damage than a +1 weapon unless your stats are high enough, since the +1 weapon stops scaling at a lower value.
>No upgrade: No scaling
>+1: caps at 10 level investment (5/5 for quality)
>+2: caps at 16 level investment (8/8 for quality)
>+3: caps at 22 level investment (11/11 for quality)
>+10: caps at 64 level investment (32/32 for quality)

Do this and you wouldn't need the dumb weapon memory / SL balance for pvp, since weapon effectiveness would take soul level into account.

Base counter modifiers depend on the wind-up time for attacks. (longer windup = harder to time properly = more reward for good timing)

Poise destruction depend on the amount of cooldown time. (longer cooldown = more vulnerable if missing = enemy is more vulnerable if hit)

Infusions move stats around and can let you tweak stamina consumption vs length vs swing speed vs counter damage vs poise destruction etc, plus also letting you do elemental infusions identical to dark souls 2. So something like DS2's mastodon greatsword would be an infused version of the bastard sword, making it heavier, use more stamina and lower counter, but increasing damage and making it longer.

Strength and dex wouldn't just scale, but also affect what you could use for your moveset. Use God Hand's moveset combo customization so you can pick and choose that class's movesets on your weapon. This way using a weapon doesn't lock you into just that weapon's moveset, which would help get rid of the dumb tier lists so that most weapons could be viable if you built the rest of your build and strategy around them.

Keep DS3's charge attacks and weapon arts, though. That shit should have been in the game from the start.

>DaS2 feels like its moving through molasses and not in a good way.

Dark souls 1 is about twitchy reaction time and rapid execution. It's like threading the needle.

Dark Souls 2 is about hard-reads and prediction, followed by heavy, satisfying combos. It's like being 3-4 moves ahead of your opponent.

The worst way to play dark souls 2 is to use a fast weapon and try to parry/roll out of everything, which forces you to basically buttpoke the entire game with tiny damage output.

The best way to play dark souls 2 is to use an extremely heavy, high damage weapon (preferably with high counter modifiers) and roll only a few times, using blocking (most bosses can't be parried) and then hitting HARD for 1/5 to 1/4 of the enemy's health when you see an opening, or destroying whole groups of 5+ mobs in 1 or 2 attacks.

Spears, UGS, anything with power stance, twinblades, great hammers, (some) axes, Katanas, and certain greatswords (MLGS, drakeblood, key, ruler's, loyce, thorned, mastodon) all feel fucking fantastic in DS2 to use.

Rapiers, straight swords, other greatswords, hammers, and curved swords (with some exceptions) feel awful and slow and boring in pve.

Sage ring +2 with default dex will cap out casting speed, so once you get that you can respec that dex to something lower and place the points somewhere else. Next few levels should focus on END and more int. Try to reach 30-32 by irithyll and you'll breeze through the rest of the game. Try to stay around 60 with +6 weapons when you get to the aldrich area so you can do aldrich invasions for Great Deep Soul

>but casuals may not get the point

List both scaling letter and max level scaling. Show that by upgrading, max level goes up. Problem solved.

As for the chart, it's more of a way to compare weapons of the same moveset with different AR distributions through infusion. There are moveset modifiers that affect damage, but they rarely vary by more than 10% between weapons.

the first 27 levels of vig give you a lot of hp

12 end is fucking low

your next attunement slot is at 30, which is the first slot where you'll have more FP than a blue flask recovers

Try out crows quills if you wanna level dex; the upsides to sorc is that it starts with the lowest strength, vit, and faith in the game. Even mercenary, the go-to dex class has more strength than you need for quills.

It's completely different. The only roll animation threshold is at 70%, but from 0% to 69.9% you suffer stamina regen and roll distance penalties as weight increases. Staying around 50% is recommended, if you go too light your long rolls can fuck you over more than they help.

Yhorm's AR is superior. At 40 str and +10 yhorms AR is 590 and great club sits at 549. However Yhorms scaling doesnt see diminishing returns until 60 str with an AR of 640. It will continue receiving 2 points of AR per level until the 80s. That said, the great club has a unique moveset which is good at roll catching and using it will set you apart from tryhard metafags.

Get a tongue from invading/finding one in the world, find rosaria in the cathedral of the deep, and "reallocate stats". It works like you'd think it does, if you have a stat that you leveled more than you want, you can lower the stat as low as it can get for your starter class, and put the points into another stat. You can't use respecs to lower your soul level.
>Also are there any boss souls that I'll need to turn into spells or can I just eat them?
If you still have the Deacons soul you can make Deep Soul. Really good, fast casting, low stamina/fp consumption spell with good tracking and great in pvp. Great Deep Soul from the aldrich covenant is a straight upgrade but regular deep soul is good to have considering you can get it really early in the game and without having to grind invasions. It also does dark damage so if you run into something with high magic resistance, you can use that instead and still be kind of useful.

>spending the two saved points on vit puts me at 9/9/7/12 vit/str/faith/luck
>putting them on str/faith is 7/10/8/12, basically the same as the mercenary's 10/10/8/9 but trading luck for vit
>save on some useless stats, gain some luck, lose vit potential, a semi-useful stat arguably worth having at at least 9 or 10ish with favor
>12 luck
>40 dex + 40 luck hollow quills still do less than just 40 dex sharp
>remember there's a cool poison staff that might justify the luck instead, actually scales pretty well at 30 int

>in spite of a pryo-miracle tool and miracle-sorcery tool existing, there's isn't even a pyro-sorc tool at all
>they all have pure fucking faith requirements anyway of course, when having 7 faith is kinda the point of sorc

how the fuck do you make a build that's actually significantly better off as a sorc than any other class? The best I can get is "yeah it's more stat efficient because I saved a bunch on almost-useless vit but gained almost as much completely-useless luck," which is sometimes meaningful on low levels but even at 60+ I'd rather just take the equipload at the cost of efficiency than throw on stuff I cant use at all just for the sake of paying a little less for it.

Is mercury + spores any good ever? How would I even be using all three (or more) slots? CMW, mercury, and HCSM?

>some sources say mercury scales

Obscuring ring. Great Bow. Silvercat ring. Plunging attacks. Divide and conquer when you can. Wait for back up when you have to. Don't panic if the host loses all of his phantoms and then runs back to summon more. He's still probably in pretty bad shape. Just disappear and wait for another opportunity.
>>

>breaks in 1 or 2 hits

I was pointing out your stupid hyperbole, not the fact that corpses cause extra durability damage.

Mercury doesn't scale with anything but certain staves that give a bonus to dark spells. It's only really good to finish off low health enemies and catching quickstep spammers

DaS1 is the only game that doesn't have a level up waifu. It was convenient, but restricting the service in a central hub gives more of a feeling of having a home base to return to. I guess it works for the case of DaS1, that you're a wandering hollow with no home to return to.
>>
>>165994815
The bonfire is an undead's home, anon. Any bonfire.
>>
>>165994524
It's probably because of estus flask shards and sublime bone dust. If they allowed bonfire leveling up, new players may not realize that they would have to upgrade their flask at majula.

As for why Majula at all, DS2 was more of a linear quest system. You level up at majula while you upgrade your stuff and buy new things after beating a boss, basically. Each major path (primal bonfire) follows a linear path, but the paths all branch out from Majula.

That being said... Aged feather should have allowed bonfire leveling up and estus increase, though. It makes more sense thematically than as an unlimited use homeward bone.

>>165993719
assasin is even worse, since theif has less investment in every single stat except it saves 5 luck, but it's still got 10 luck anyway, and has equal or greater stats than deprived in every single category except faith, where it only saves one point. It's got the highest starting level and is just irredeemably shitty. You can't level faith or luck since deprived/theif will outclass you if you do (unless you level literally EVERYTHING, in which case you tie for all classes), but you're still stuck with 9/10 faith/luck. The only upside is that it's got an even 14 attunement. Then mercenary starts beating the shit out of it, even if you use a two-slot mercenary. It's got less luck, int, and faith, and only forces you to add one more point to vigor (was gonna be there anyway unless you like 10 vig) and two more to dex (was already the assasin's strong suit). Can't level dex more than once, can't level faith, and can't level luck.

The only way to make it come out as the best class for your build is int/str with 15 dex for gundy's halberd with at least two sorceries.

Two questions:

1. Judging by the moveset of the Farron Greatsword, am I to assume that effective use of the L1s requires playing unlocked? I could manually aim with running movement if needed, but I don't feel comfortable without constantly having my thumb on the run/roll button, and using it to adjust the camera in the middle of fights just doesn't feel wise.

2. At SL30 with weapon level +2, is it worth doing invasions in Cathedral, Undead Settlement and Farron Keep? I don't really feel like going into Carthus yet, and I feel that I should at least try to get Swordgrass and maybe even Concords via PVP before I go too much further.

You pick them up off the ground and in chests.

They drop off of doges and various other enemies.

You literally do not have to every worry about running out, they are pretty much as plentiful as Embers in DaS3; even if you use one every time you die, you'll be fine. Even if you do somehow run out (probably from selling your spares), there is an area shortly past the mid-point of the game that lets you un-hollow for free.
>>
>>165996041
I actually sometimes swap my fifth spell slot for snap freeze. It's pretty good for harassing ultra weapon users because of how unbelievably fast the frostbite builds up, and it's cheap enough to cast multiple times for a guaranteed proc. I need at least 10 dex so I can cap my casting speed with sage +2. 99 is a much more satisfying number than 100 and I don't want to go 120 because I feel like an actual proper RPG mage with this health and stamina. I don't even have any other place to put my stats even if I did choose to level higher, except for 2 more points in INT which would just boost my spells by maybe 20-30 damage.

>>165995049
Going to 15 str actually screws you, merc comes out equal or better almost every time, and equal basically means better in this case since you get surplus dex instead of surplus luck. the only way to make it work that way is to claim you actually want either the single point of luck or faith or something.

assuming you're getting vig and end to high levels...

obviously need 2 attunement slots

the 9 faith can't be leveled because deprived kills you, but it can't be relied on since its just 9 faith, nothing requires that in particular iirc. Could demand at least 8 for heal aid to help you avoid 7 faith classes, but that doesn't change anything.

int has to be leveled to negate the point of int merc saves, could go for two 12 int spells to avoid running into sorc.

so now you got 40/14/40/X/X/14/12/X/X, where the first two X's are identical on the merc, which also has 16 dex. The only way to make assasin better than merc is to demand either faith or luck, the former of which can't be leveled, so you need to demand 10 luck.

Going higher makes you run into sorcerer. Demanding 8 faith for heal aid or at least 8 str/vit helps you avoid this. Knight beats you if you go for high vit AND str though. You can go up to 14 vit and 40 str though. Beats me what you'd use 14 dex 40+ str and 10 to 12 luck though. you can go past 12 luck but you have to start demanding vit to keep sorc from catching up.

I want to add in my two cents here. Dark Souls III feels strapped for content.

Everything is always leading to the Lord of Cinders, even branches like Deacons of the Deep is just to get to Irithyll of the Boreal Valley. The only optional areas are the Oceiros' Garden, and the Untended Graves. Areas like the profaned capital are absolutely tiny, too, and levels like Irithyll are just a wide straight line. Only the Undead Settlement and Farron Swamp really felt interconnected.

In Dark Souls II, I never feel strapped for content. There were plenty of optional bosses, and side-branches for me. The Rat Bosses, Pursuer, the Ruin Sentinels, the Gargoyles, and the Old Dragonslayer were purely optional.

And when I gathered the 4 great souls, I still had plenty of content. I think that DS3 blows it's load too quickly.

-Letting Yurt kill people
-Fucking up World Tendency

Dark Souls
-Eating Fire Keeper Souls, especially Anastascia's
-leveling up Resistance
-resting at the Ash Lake bonfire
-letting the curse meter fill up to see what happens

Dark Souls 2
-ignoring adaptability

Bloodborne
-dumping stats into endurance

Dark Souls 3
-not sure beyond eating souls like every Souls game
>>
>>166000823
2 has the most content out of the trilogy but so much of it, in addition to how the game plays in general, is unadulterated ass that it either drags on or is shit

Less is more sometimes, and while I won't claim 3 follows up on that well, 2 could take a lesson from it.

Dark Souls III has pretty much every piece of loot be booby-trapped, and it is incredibly fucking annoying.

>>166000998

III plays like even hotter shit. Enemies have more combos to their attacks, artificially draw out their attacks to roll catch you, and even then the game isn't challenging due to bullshit rolling and unpunishable estus
>>
>>166000823
I never got that impression, the game is pretty linear for sure but it doesn't feel like it's too short. Dark Souls 2 definitely had more content, but the game had some pretty poor pacing in the latter half and felt overly long in a bad way.

Also you're forgetting Archdragon peak for optional areas, which is a pretty great area for a place that is optional.
>>
>>166001097

>Enemies have more combos to their attacks, artificially draw out their attacks to roll catch you,

There's nothing artificial about that. If you think that's artificial difficulty you need to stop gitting bad.
>>
>>166000823
Pursuer is required if you ever want access to infusions. Ruin Sentinels too if you want to be able to lock on to the Lost Sinner during that fight.

Better examples of optional are Flexile, Executioner's Chariot, Red Smelter (though not a good one since that bonfire is absurdly useful and RoB+1 is locked behind that Pursuer), Darklurker and Ancient Dragon.

Yes, and? That in of itself is not a problem

>artificially draw out their attacks to roll catch you
How is countering your roll, which is at its all time power in III, bad? A lot of animations tend to linger, true, but it's a consistent amount of time with some give in the animation before they actually strike.

>bullshit rolling
But you just said?

>unpunishable estus
Estus is punishable in both PvE and PvP, in PvP you can't make them have a net loss is the difference but in 2 bullshit healing is worse.
>>
>>166001161

Drawn out combo strings are anti-souls. and are a holdover from bloodborne. Souls games are about thoughtful stamina management, and III doesn't punish rolling, and therefore the only way to keep the game challenging is to artificially make the enemies attack more, and hold their attacks.
>>
>>166000505
Lore is good but unfortunately the inherently vague way it's always presented in souls games means you also get a larger than normal subset of retards who have no idea what they're talking about. People like Vaati etc. who could take a rock on the floor and somehow spin it into an epic tale about how everything in the game is not as we know it etc etc blah blah blah. I mean, Vaati just steals all his "lore" from sources he thinks won't notice/be able to call him out on it instead of actually coming up with anything, but the point stands.

How is it "artificial" to have enemies attack more in fluid combos? And by "artificially" holding their attacks you mean the same animation of them wavering on the verge of attacking for the same length of time every time? You can reaction roll fucking everything in this game.
>>

Loot being booby trapped is just a pain for everybody. Dying once isn't as bad as getting cursed, having to walk back up the great hollow, getting cained by smelter because you can't roll through his attacks, or ruining your character by leveling incorrectly.

I think Dark Souls 3 is by far the most challenging game in the series. It has the biggest selection of challenging bosses by a large margin and healing feels very limited for much of the first half.

Explain to me again why you're being such a baby about Estus when it's clear you can't handle your own? The path to the interior of CotD is short, all you do is dead sprint past the first two graveyard sections then kill some mooks before opening the first set of doors and unlocking the shortcut.

>>166001562

It's generally a +-2 differentiation, but after a point it turns into +-3. With a +3 weapon you can interact with people between +1 and +5.
>>
>>166001619

The combat in the other games is much slower than in Dark Souls III, and stamina was consumed more easily. Which meant that every combat action you took had more consequences, than the roll and forget style of III.

>And Bloodborne wasn't?

Bloodborne had built-in mechanics to encourage aggression, like getting HP back immediately after you lost it, and spamming attacks on enemies to get visceral hits.

>How is it "artificial" to have enemies attack more in fluid combos?

It's compensation for IIIs lack of challenge, which is inherent from stealing bloodborne's engine.

Every Souls game should be played with an extremely paranoid mindset, drawing enemies out one at a time with a bow until it's safe to proceed. If you've aggroed more than two or three enemies at once, you're not playing the game right.
>>
>>166000505
The problem with Dark Soul lore is that it's a massive mess of loose ends and unanswered questions that will never be answered because Miyazaki has most likely forgotten or doesn't give a shit now.

They should have learned from Bloodborne, despite all the vague shit it's pretty self contained and you can figure out stuff if you connect the dots.

2 played much slower but that was a side affect of the engine, relative to the engine it played decently fast, everything just looked like it was moving underwater.

That still has nothing to do with what I said, and isn't always the "bloodborne fags" who encourage low END builds?

The first two (three?) Estus Shards and the first Undead Bone Shard are easy pickings even for beginners of the sometimes strangely placed loot.

Painstaking divide and conquer the whole way through will make everything much more waity and much less fun. Reasonable people might try to split off the grave wardens, expecting them to pick off every thrall for a 1v1 with a bow is expecting people to have a lot of arrows and a lot of time.

this desu

I actually can't think of any real loose ends in bloodborne that aren't just intentionally vague because of the nature of the great ones. It's all extremely comprehensive.

>Pthumerians communicated with old ones and gained power from their alliance
>Byrgenwerth finds their old labyrinth, Laurence starts using the blood found within
>Byrgenwerth leader Wilem thinks the blood in dangerous and prefers arcane methods to attempt to ascend
>Laurence tells him to fuck off and starts his own organization posing as a church in order to experiment on people
>While doing so, they raid and destroy a fishing village and kill their god, stealing its umbilical cord
>They want to explore the labyrinths more but it's dangerous so Laurence and Gehrman use the cord to summon a great one of their own and make a pact that makes hunters basically immortal
>Meanwhile some crazy fucker also from Byrgenwerth, Micolash makes his own spinoff club with even more fucked up methods of attempting ascension
>The Blood eventually makes people start turning into beasts, directing the hunters then at stifling the beast scourge while also unwittingly working for the Moon Presence to kill the other great ones

and that's all basically spoonfed to you, and you can personally meet and interact with all involved. meanwhile souls is vague as shit

>>166002361
It's actually apparently because Miyazaki used to read english novels as a kid but only understood bits and pieces, filling in the blanks himself. He wanted to replicate the experience.

Only Dark Souls really does this though. Demon's Souls and Bloodborne are very straightforward

>Perhaps the wrong way to say but stamina management in Bloodborne is every bit real as it used to be.

It is.

>And how are they not Souls mechanics

Bloodborne is a completely different creature. Mechanics that work in bloodborne don't work in Dark Souls III, because there are practically no shields in bloodborne, and you can punish vial-users with visceral attacks.

I'm not even going to dignify that last point.
>>
>>166002756
To be fair, DeS and BB are outliers from the money maker trilogy that just ended. It might just be Miyazaki's way of breaking the mold for an installment, if anything.

I would say that the fans had an impact on how lore was distributed though, because the success of Dark Souls' vague storytelling bringing about discussion also caused a huge want for closure. 2 hamfisted this by giving more questions of a bad nature or unsatisfying endings, and 3 both gives bad endings to things that feel rushed or leaves more questions to be asked in a similar confusing manner. They also pull a lot of "history repeats itself." or similar themes.

Friede exemplified everything cancerous about 3's design principle- to make everything as epic and hard as reasonably possible. There eight hit combos where you mash roll until you get hit, sampled orchestras and chanting, more phases with bigger health pools, giant explosions, etc. Dark Souls 3 was the first Souls game without any atmospheric bosses, like Astraea, Sif, Orphan, Fools Idol, Gwyn, or Velstadt. It's completely commoditized around the hardcore meme.

It was also sort of insulting in general. The Gravetender's visual design was so lazy, and the entire DLC was made by stretching out a ten minute hike by adding a difficult boss at the end.

Shields function on enemies, just not bosses, as they should. They're shit early game but Lothric Knight Shield will endure the hurt if you need it to. But shield functionality is not a "mechanic" so much as a design philosophy.

Eh, honestly I felt that DaS3 was trying to be atmospheric at the cost of other things. Abyss Watchers was pretty awesome in terms of presentation even if the boss itself was easy. Similar for Yhorm, that fight felt very theatric even if he was just a gimmick boss. Aldrich was basically the DaS1 fanservice boss, which is good and bad depending on your level of investment in the first game; after all, you're walking into the boss room expecting to fight a giant sludge, only to read his boss title and realize that he's graduated from eating people to eating gods, with the last son of Gwyn being his first victim. Then there's other bosses like Champ and Nameless King which nail both atmosphere and difficulty.

DaS3 has loads of faults, but even you have to admit that it had a lot of high moments too.

If you get him close to death without killing him, it gets pretty feelsy.
>>
>>166004396
It's not subdued or mournful so it doesn't count in this artfag's world

>Dancer
gives off a very chilling and unnerving atmosphere, with the slow, nearly inhuman, long flowing movements and music. As the fight goes on, growing more intense, flames engulf the arena, as if to represent the stress and heat of the battle against the difficult foes

>Sif without the DLC
big dog, no unique or interesting design, just has a sword and spins around a lot

>Astraea
Run around blighttown as a woman talks and her faggot butt buddy hammer guy tries and fails to gank you

>Fool's Idol
le spooky puppet
>>
>>166002909
DeS is a project where Memezacki was given reign at like the last minute after they had given hope of it being good.
>>
>>166004396
What atmosphere do you get from fucking Fool's Idol?

It's a cool, spooky boss but fucking hell you're reaching to hate on 3 if you legitimately think Fool's Idol is more atmospheric than Dancer, Pontiff, or Princes
>>
>ITT autists don't understand that atmosphere is completely subjective
Just give up, if someone isn't agreeing with you on a boss being atmospheric then you can't make them see it.
>>
>>166003132
I agree that Dancer has a really nice atmosphere, but Pontiff is generic as fuck and Princes... I can't say I get a vibe of appreciable atmosphere, but it's at least a somewhat exhilarating boss fight.

Are you prepared for twitchfaggots to spoil everything again?
>>
>>166004785
No because I don't pay attention to twichfaggots.
>>
>>166004785
How would they spoil anything for you if you don't follow twitchfaggots?

The song and the Idol's laugh had a lot to do with it. It was unnerving and suspenseful, and the whole fight you were wondering how you could die, what would come back after she teleports away. It isn't hard but it's a little bit different.

Because fags from here will spread it everywhere so you'd have to get off the internet to not get exposed to spoilers.

>>166004764
Yeah I don't know about you but when it's clear somebody isn't taking my reply seriously and insists that they're "right" and you're "wrong" then I'm just not gonna bother debating them.

No.

Yes.

Quivering in my fucking boots over here.

You can always just fucking cheat by killing one with arrows through the fog gate before you even enter the fight.

So you found Vordt, Abyss Watchers, Greatwood, Wolnir, Deacons, Old Demon King and Ancient Dragon hard?
