yhorm's machete is strong as fuck, but you can only swing it about 2-3 times depending on your stamina and it is all vertical attacks except for the special attack combo. your choice. yhorm'shas higher AR than great club, but the great club has a better moveset IMO.

Beasthood is the opposite of Kinhood, and Ludwig succumbed to beasthood before he could "ascend" to kinhood, and lost the HMLS in the process. He must've thought he'd lost it or it had abandoned him, but it was there, in his flesh.

The moonlight that surrounds the HMLS' blade is described as being able to "channel the abyssal cosmos". The entire game is about how a splinter group of the Church tried to "ascend" by lining their minds with eyes and becoming one with the cosmos. Whatever knowledge can be gained by doing that, by peering into the moonlit blade, it's hinted that one can perceive those truths and wisdom.

It must not have been clear to Ludwig himself (and indeed I don't think it was necessarily clear to anyone what they really hoped to accomplish by ascending), since he says "Good hunter, have you seen the thread of light?

Basically some scholars in Yharnam found this well of Blood far beneath their city. Through experimenting with it they found that it had healing properties, and it became a standard practice to receive blood injections. Yharnam quickly became sort of a mecca for healing.

Meanwhile though a plague had broken out that turned people into monsters, and eventually Yharnam was burned to the ground and started anew. The blood is what was causing the plague, and the longer one resisted turning, the more powerful a beast you became when you finally succumbed.

The Church of Blood Ministration began hiring people to go out and hunt those afflicted, they became known as Hunters.

At some point a splinter group of the Church went off and began experimenting with a new kind of blood, pale blood.

Rather than turning into beasts, this blood would turn you into something else, called Kin in the game. The belief is that Kin is the next evolution of humanity.

This is, again, my take on it all. It's largely left open for interpretation and speculation.

The GCS is pretty bad at being a shield (it's heavy, has subpar stability, and not 100% physical), yes.

But not every playstyle uses shield for blocking. Some people keep their shield on their back the entire time, only occasionally taking it out to perform a parry. These people tend to use the GCS, because it's like putting a Cloranthy ring in your otherwise useless shield slot. In other words, the GCS is the best shield for people who don't really use shields.

Hi, I only got recently into Dark Souls and "finished" the first one (I beat Gwyn).
Now I started playing Dark Souls 2 and wanted to make a character more based on spells and decided on pumping points into faith.
At 22 I finally got my first damage spell only to see that it does like 1/5 of a melee attack.
Did I do something wrong? I have points in attunment and faith.

But yeah earlier I ran into a host and his fuck buddy camping the settlement as cosplayers. The host was in full artorias and his partner was in full ornstein both using the corresponding weapons. I suppose they could always have friends drop equipment for them but it's not like it's hard to get that far on a low level character either. I mean I took my sl20 twink through the entire game so I could have 14 estus' at +10 and all collect all of the ashes to buy whatever supplies I needed.

Weapons no higher than +3 (+2 would give you more high wall invasions), use lightning resin for big dick damage and exploding bolts for the avelyn. The Avelyn was the best improvement I made on this guy. It's great for chipping away that last bit of damage some hosts will have after taking two hits assuming they still lived. It's good for punishing healing too. And it catches those "parry god" try hards by complete surprise. Has anyone but me actually made an allcaster though? Props to whoever suggested I use great deep soul, it's suprisingly useful when fired from the pillar.

Though to be fair I don't think I'd be much better or worse off at 120 build-wise, I'd just add around 5 sl to vig, end, int, and faith, (probably less so in the case of endurance) and most quality players would still be proportional to me.

I think the real issue with 120 is how easily you can squeeze in two attunement slots and replenishment plus magic shield or blessed weapon.

The upside to it is that regen (which promotes passive play and is already absurd in the arena) is less powerful at 120 where everyone has more hp (since regenerative is flat and non-scaling). I think most people take offense investment to be more valuable than post-27 vig investment; people making characters usually use bare minimum offense till they hit 27 vig, then level offense, then start leveling vig again. Maybe more like post-32-or-3ish than just 27 (since life and favor exist), but still, people are probably going to go for more instakills to avoid dealing with the aforementioned enemy regen either way. I don't think mages get helped or hurt directly by 120, but the game flow as a whole might get worse.

Against pugs (not sure about longer ones) I can let them wiff an r1 then walk up and black flame (with 10 dex and sage +0) before they get the second swings hyperarmor going. They can probably roll away safely, but still, ugs are easy to deal with. What's an ugs going to do if I just walk backwards and throw knives?
