The idea of Shadow Android in general was the best way to bring the character back and mess with some new territory without retreading old shit or ruining the character's death.

Instead... he's the real Shadow but lol all of his backstory is gone so he's just a generic hedgehog who is grumpy and hangs out with a robot. The only thing worse that's ever been done with regards to the character was when the comics would try to introduce "Maria Replacements".

Well keep in mind Shadow never really had a proper character development in the comics. In the games he had Adventure 2, Heroes, Shadow, then 06, but in the comics it was just Adventure 2, then he was rescued by ayy lmaos, and that was it. There was no Heroes, Shadow or 06 adaption in the pre-reboot comics, the Black Arms was just a throwaway reference to explain why the Xorda weren't genebombing the planet to shreds, and pretty much all of Shadow's character development in the comics happened after 06 was released.

Plus Hope was kinda part of Team Dark as a whole and not just Shadow's Maria surrogate, so that helped.

It was a satisfying conclusion when you consider it followed Adventure 2 and his own game. Adventure 2 had him initially decide to destroy the planet out of revenge before remembering Maria's true wish for him to give them a chance. ShTH had him initially side with Black Doom to bring order to the humans until he realized the true plan was to effectively destroy humanity. Then in 06 he's shown that humanity will try to destroy him anyway, but Shadow chooses to fight for what he believes in instead of giving in to hate or fear as he had in the past.

Granted 06's story really isn't that good, but you can tell they tried the hardest with Shadow's part.

I'd prefer if they continue Mega Drive as the start of a new comic that eventually shifts to the Adventure era in a couple years, if there even is a new comic. The problem with comic adaptions of games is there's no point reading them when you can just play the games. Mega Drive is good because it's brand new. Do more like that, do less like Genesis of a Hero.

And I doubt new characters will be in since the game is being released in a couple months. Last time they rushed in a brand new character last minute we got Advance 2 Cream. It'd be nice to get classic Amy playable but I'm not going to hold my breath, at least not until Mania 2.

For starters, the release dates of the issues were changed. And not to something like TBD or TBA, but concrete dates. At worst they were delayed, and it's been confirmed that the Comixology dates of the 27th of December were placeholders (Someone got in contact with them).

Nothing concrete yet, but that along with the Archie rep saying that the subs being gone was temporary AND updating the sub page makes things look at least a bit better than they were before

Archie changed their tone on a phone call late yesterday saying subscriptions being gone is temporary thing. A complete 180 from the caller being told the titles might be cancelled, whether this is truthful or damage control is unknown.

Archie also pushed back the release dates of the next issues of StH and SU to late February/early March. Some are taking this as a positive sign.

A weird thing is that they haven't updated future issues release dates (as it stands StH 292 is slated to come out before 291). Maybe this will change with April solicits next week.

Comixology confirmed the dates they have right now are placeholders and Archie hasn't informed them of when they are releasing.

Things look more optimistic, but we aren't anywhere out of the woods yet.

Look, they've spend decades building up Sonic, it's a reliable source of TPB sales.

SEGA technically owns all of it, all that Archie has is exclusive printing rights. If Archie were to walk away from the relationship it would mean Sega would just go to some other company and print the comics, and then Archie would've spent all that time developing the property only to get scooped by a rival.

They need Riverdale to do well to keep some money in the bank and to look like a respectable competent publisher that can do business with a company like Sega.

Theoretically, if Sega really did own everything from the Archie comic, they could have the new company hire the existing staff and continue the comic from where it left off. If they do it seamlessly enough that from the perspective of the creative staff it'd just be a change in editorial. If Sega or the other company doesn't want to continue the Archie continuity, then they can spinoff Mega Drive as the basis for the new monthly comic. This gives them three months of reprints to work with while the creative staff does up new issues, and Mega Drive would work for Sega since it's not tied to Archie continuity and works for nostalgia pandering. Then since Adventure's 20th anniversary is in a couple years, Mega Drive could transition to the Adventure era after 20 or so issues.

Meaning, she's The Love-Interest's Sidekick, similar to Rouge being The Rival's Rival/Love-Interest. Characters like Cream&Cheese, and Rouge, exist outside the 'Core' because they aren't directly connected to Sonic. They are connected to characters that ARE directly linked to Sonic, without having a clear connection to Sonic himself.

Well, seems about time I ask this:
It's been a while since I've stopped reading the comics... and now I'm lost. Last issue I've read was... sometime after the reboot, the part where they got Rotor back on their team, I think? Parallel to that story, there was the Universe comic, an arc starring Team Dark against some kind of alien? dark Shadow? something like that.

Can you point me which issues (arc) they are? Also, -oh shit, I remember there was the building to the second Megaman crossover... I've stopped reading them too goddammit

Oh you're thinking of Shadow Fall. Yea that's pretty good. SU 59-62 is what you're looking for

That would be issue #253 and Universe #59. You're about 3 issues behind on the main comic though, Universe #59 was the same month as main #256.

And the second crossover was complete garbage and self-retcons itself so skip it completely.
