Priests are obviously great healers in endgame, can easily heal while leveling too regardless of specc. PvP wise, the term " to melt faces" originated from shadow priest performance, take that for what you will. I havent done much leveling but it was fun because of helping poor warriors at random times and getting a lot of gratitude. The downtime can be practically eliminated if you use your wand which at low lvls can be strong as fuck of you keep it updated.
Overally I do recommend the priest experiance.

This is misleading. You will heal in dungeons while leveling, but a good shadow priest can carve a niche for himself in endgame. The only time I found myself being forced into healing during vanilla was Zul'Gurub. And that's only because it's harder to justify your existence in a 10 man raid where you don't have a cadre of warlocks to benefit from your debuffs.
