It would be neat with some events and such, but if it's just a truncated alaska with a few russian pops it would end up kind of boring for the player

So the option to core and annex Sinkiang and Mongolia (as Nat. China) in return for entering the war against Germany won in a landslide, so that's what I'll be doing.

One final poll: should I also annex Tibet, both for aesthetic borders and full Chinese integration? They aren't anyone's puppet and I wouldn't be invading them, I'd just be justifying it as them instantly surrendering because of the number and strength of my forces on the border (which are overwhelming).

Ignoring that, though, there are many reasons why state formation in Africa was harder than in other regions. Some of it is environmental, especially related to the tsetse fly's range; since it carries trypanosomiasis, which kills cattle, Africans in many regions experienced limited mobility and room for population growth due to the threat to their food supplies. This was only exacerbated for cultures like the Xhosa, who viewed cattle as a form of literal currency. You mention gold, diamonds, and farmable land, but farming isn't helpful without reliable rain (in east Africa particularly there isn't any), and the former resources are valuable to European societies, not necessarily African ones. Most, in east Africa at least, valued cattle more.

Second, much of Africa is only seasonably rainy, which precludes intensive agriculture in many areas. The most environmentally stable part of Africa is the one which birthed the most civilizations: west Africa saw Songhai, Sokoto, and Mali, and it's the portion with the most rivers and rainfall which isn't a jungle, along with a wonderful northern defensive border in the Sahara. The rainforest is difficult to work with because of the prevalence of disease (and sickle-cell, which is the adapted resistance to malaria, reduces the oxygen efficiency of those affected by it) and the difficulty of clearing land, whereas the rest of Africa is generally arid, semiarid, or swarming with the tsetse.

Then, of course, there's also slavery and the population ravages which accompanied it. West Africa wasn't the only portion affected; in places, especially around Zanzibar, east Africa was hit just as hard. Making stable states requires both surplus capital, foodstuffs, and population, two of which African peoples were generally in perpetual want of, mostly for environmental reasons.

The point of going to university is to get connections with people, to take classes in random things that would be more difficult to study on your own (esp. high level things - learning Special Relativity is easy on your own, but General Relativity or QCD is pretty fucking hard), and to do original research and shit and see what actually competent researchers / scholars are like in your professors (although ffrom what I've seen with shit like Black Athena coming out of Columbia University and apparently SJW trash being something you need to take to grad in a lot of schools that's coming into doubt...)
