I have to agree. Back when Siglemic made news with his SM64 runs literally made news, the NYT printed an article about him there was really just one "speedrunning community". There was legitimate 'hype' surrounding his run at GDQ. Runners for other games did couch commentary.
There were silly donation incentives like people doing the fusion dance, running their game without a shirt, arm wrestling, saying stupid shit, etc.

Now every game insists on being it's own sekrit club. The people doing commentary are autists who don't know how to entertain a crowd. "Incentives" for useless shit no one really cares about.

It has no charm.
