There are no free roam missions in the core games, its a linear first person shooter
some missions are more open than others but the true definition of free roam is having a large open space with different methods of achieving an objective, and whilst Halo does have levels were the spaces are open, often there is still only one single objective. Even silent cartographer, the closest to free roam in the series, just has the choice of either going to the objective and backtracking, or going back first and not having to backtrack. Either way, you end up in the same place.
Halo 5 actually has some elements of free roam in that there are often multiple ways of completing the same objective in missions, but even that is debatable.
The obvious huge exception is Mombasa Streets, the only true free roam mission, but even that has highly linear elements
