pistols are useful
Which ones guys?
I'm leaning towards Never panic
>>164884919
No flank. I was in full cover but bulbs dont care apparently.
XCOM 1 and XCOM 2 are both canon, stop spreading mis-information
what is this picture?
In the middle of a hurricane?
Does xcom2 have weather effects to influence the battle?
>>164885156
Never panic is better. +2 on medkits is nothing considering how hard most enemies hit. Besides, a normal medkit will heal your rookies fully, and you shouldn't be getting hit anyway.
>>164885242
XCOM 1 is but isn't canon at the same time. The enemies you encounter, the weapons/tech you develop, and the characters are all canon. But the way the story goes past maybe the first few missions is not.
>>164885369
No, you don't know what you are talking about. XCOM 1 victory is canon, this is stated by the devs.
>: Yeah, I view it as – you can already hear the designer bullshit coming out in my voice, but – this is the way I view it, and I think it’s fair, when we were talking about this idea we were like,"You know, the setting for XCOM 2 is actually going to be if XCOM lost the first game." And I think a lot of people had this reaction of, "Wait a minute, I just invested all this time and I beat XCOM." To me it feels like every time you start a new game of XCOM, you’re kind of spinning off an alternate universe – and so, in the worlds where you beat XCOM, there just never was an XCOM 2, you know? This is just in case somebody actually lost a game of XCOM, which has happened, and this is a chance to go to that world and try it out.
>t. Jake Solomon
http://www.usgamer.net/articles/interview-the-death-of-interceptors-iron-man-mode-and-xcom-2s-next-step
>>164885207
I shouldn't find this attractive. Then again I shouldn't find snakes that want to kill me attractive either.
>>164885369
>Schrodinger's canon
>It both is and isn't until stated otherwise from the writers
off to Bollywood!
>>164885369
That makes no sense but it does makes sense at the same time.
>>164885554
Except Jake Solomon is fucking retarded because he apparently doesn't even know that the Losing Ending in EU isn't even similar to how its presented in 2. Don't say its alternate universes where you lose when the lose state doesn't even lead into the next game.
>>164886084
>Don't listen to the writer on what is canon, listen to me
For real. It's not difficult, the canon defeat in X1 is different than the canon defeat in X2. Alternate Universe. There isn't room for debate when canon is literally what the writers say it is.
You dont have to physically collet the meld?
I just have to kill the ayys before they run out?
cool
>>164886335
Yeah, and don't be afraid to let the meld go. It's not terribly important in the early game.
>>164885554
>You know, the setting for XCOM 2 is actually going to be if XCOM lost the first game
But how you lost in XCOM 2 is a completely different series of events than how you lost in 1. How the story of EU progresses according to XCOM 2 isn't even the same.
>>164886286
Then an Alternate Universe thats not EU's actual storyline and ending is canon, not EU itself.
>>164886286
Then you've said it yourself, EU's story isn't canon to 2.
>>164886485
I don't think you understand what alternate universe means. The important part is that xcom lost in X2, not how they lost. Even if I accepted your argument, it would just mean that only the XCOM 1 victory is canon.
>>164886676
Yeah, but XCOM 1 is still canon. That's the point, they are both canon, because they both have different canons. Like I said at the very beginning.
>>164886681
Or its possible how X2 presents it is a retcon. Who fucking knows at this point, I just wish he didn't write himself into a corner on the continuity here.

I was talking about in relation to X2 about whats canon not overall. Should've stated that, apologies.
>>164886835
>Who fucking knows at this point
>When we literally already know
They can make XCOM 3 a sequel to a XCOM 1 victory, and XCOM 4 a sequel to XCOM 2 and there would no issue.
>>164886963
Okay yeah I see what your saying.
>>164885330
Its a street light, I think
>>164886970
>>They can make XCOM 3 a sequel to a XCOM 1 victory, and XCOM 4 a sequel to XCOM 2 and there would no issue.
That sounds reasonable but having to wait that much more time for a new TFtD would be quite painful.
>>164886970
>They can make XCOM 3 a sequel to a XCOM 1 victory
While they could I feel like they won't so people don't get even more confused. Also I don't even know where they'd go from there since the big bad Elder gets blasted in the Victory ending and his whole monologue throughout the missions makes him out as the head of it all.
nth for not shutting the fuck up about valkyria chronicles
it wasn't supposed to end like this ;_;
>>164887324
>>164887336
>XCOM 3 is a sequel to both XCOM 1 and XCOM 2 because beating the ayys still means you need to go through TFTD regardless
tee hee

>>164887678
Oh god no we don't need a 3rd timeline

We'll just merge them :^)
The next XCOM is most likely to be a direct sequel to 2 with the way 2 ends.

Yes. But you should do it either way. Don't bring rookies, bring lots of explosives and a medkit for poison.
What's the best starting location in EW?
>there are mods to use lower tier weapon skins for the higher tier weapons
>No mod to use the lower tier armor skins for the upper tiers
Fuck you game I want to use shirtless Australians the entire playthrough I dont want to have to use your shitty looking warden armor

>>164890012
Defence. The aim only applies to full cover, but the defence applies to half cover as well.
>>164889635
Well at least you got a replacement sniper who's probably higher rank
>>164890012
Defense. Its easy to get gigantic aim bonusses in the lategame, but cover bonus stays the same

Is there? I havent been able to find it, there is nothing on the workshop or in the modlist
>>164888051
As much as I want to know what happened to the Volunteer I have to agree to that.
Also, nice oic.
Better to get these early yeah?
am i tacticool yet
>Whatever. But I know the Commander, because he is my pal. Dont think you know something about the Commander!
Japan has american barns?
>>164891613
Yes, but Satellites are better to get early. Don't listen to the rappers, more money actually gives you less problems.
Usually people start training a new A Team later in the game just to take more advantage of the Iron Will.
How you guys name your squadmates? Do you sometimes name few after friends, guildmates from different games, fictional people and such?
I often name characters in SP games after people from my GW2 guild, because of memories, but I laso heard that this is kinda stupid and disgusting.

>>164892350
always have a squaddie named after me, the rest are carried over vet soldiers from other campaigns that did well and the 2 skyranger pilots
>>164893154
At first I didnt planned to make a rookie named after me, but guildmate asked why, so I made one. When I started the game, in operation Gatecrasher I noticed that game randomized me 3 random guys and "my" character. Game tried to tell me something or what?
If I would know, tho, I would dress her more... maidenly.

>George "Cherry Tree" Washington
>John "Hannibal" Smith
>Anon Ymous
>Victor "The Monster" Frankenstein

Shit like that. Mostly fictional people or famous people. Sometimes I'll name some after friends/family and laugh when they die.
>Already two months after last type of enemy appear in X2
>All research done
>Still too afraid to do Rulers mission and unleash them because Im too afraid of "special move rule" ability
H-hug me ;_;
Still haven't lost anyone but the time I nearly did it was also in danger of being a wipe. I credit it to being the first time I've ever dealt with an Avatar which didn't help when there was also 4 Mutons.
I'm glad I still have Heal Faster on HQ because actually having an A-Team member out for a month would suck ass.
>>164894565
That was also the first time I've ever had to use more than 2 Nanomedikits, I used all 4.
>>164892350

from what kind of anti-fun police did you heard that from?

Disabling Shot or Battle Scanner for a sniper?
I accidentally gave my Assault tac Sense. Not sure if aggression would've been better.
Is it possible to get higher than an A?
S?
>>164893963
>Sometimes I'll name some after friends/family and laugh when they die.
Do you need to talk about something, anon?
>>164899861
I prefer disabling shot as it lets you neuter Sectopods, and mimetic skin will take care of your scouting needs.
>>164899861
Personally I like disabling shot because it's basically guaranteed to shut down 1 enemy for a turn, which is fantastic for high health, big damage dudes.
Aggression is great for those rapid fire crit assault builds.
XCOM 2 LONG WAR WANT
I want a "tier 0" weapon system, where recruits bring Dad's old /k/ommando arsenal.
"Tier 1" is advent trooper standard issue, salvaged from the battlefield.
"Tier 2" is mag weapons that can't be manufactured until a workshop is built
I don't want the avenger to be XCOM Base 2.0, I really want it to be an allegory to the resistance- stolen ayy tech held together by hate
Covering Fire or Sprinter for Support?
>>164901456
Sprinter. Covering fire sucks
>>164901456
Covering fire is awful. Taking an overwatch shot is .7 already then you factor in the 30 to 40 defense from cover and you get a waste of ammo and turn.
>>164902140
>>164902516
Good thing I chose Sprinter
This survivor looks like those Exalt dicks
Can I torture him?
>>164903564
You're required to. It's better this way.
My Assault can get Lightning Reflexes or Up Close and Personal
My support can get Field Medic or Smoke and Mirrors
I'm thinkning UC&P because he's a shotgunner and Smoke and Mirrors to mitigate damage in the first place instead of reacting towards it.
>>164904340
Lightening reflexes is pretty good. Smoke and mirrors is definitely the better choice.

They updated. Based as fuck.
The shadow ops class is pretty badly made. Even as the only mod installed, a fucking class mod, causes frame stutters in tactical in between actions, and a cinematic 20fps ON THE GEOSCAPE. What kind of fucking sloppy work is this. This is some bad mod authoring.
That is all.
I dont know what to research next
Also can anyone reccomend some comfy chairs for long gaming seshions. I'm sitting on a walmart chair rn.
>>164910459
Well I've got a Major Specialist with the ability where if he uses his two moves it automatically puts him Overwatch. So I figured that would synergize with him even better.
Carapace Armor takes 20 days to research
How do I make this faster?
Is there any art of a Viper in a Thin Man's suit?
Better than any team I had last time
>>164904681
A nation won't leave until they're at level 5 panic, even then they won't leave until the end of the month. Launching a satellite 1 day before the end of the month will stop them from leaving. If you fail a terror mission though they instantly leave, no matter what panic level they're at.
Still no Long Dong info? Come on, are they really not going to say anything until next week?

Fuck civies. My sergeants are worth 10 of them. As long as 1 or 2 survive it's all good.
14/18 is actually great, but I suppose it's normal difficulty so that's not surprising.
>>164912898
If you interrogate a floater you get research credit for lower tier armours including carapace.

Experimental warfare is good if you've got extra cash. With EW you can immediately start working on Tactical Rigging which gives every soldier an extra inventory slot. Don't be afraid to take 2 grenades.

>>164914510
>People kept telling me Frags were the only way to go.
They are. If you kill the ayys before they injure you, there won't be a need for a medkit. You still want one medkit just in case though.

>>164915741
Revive is dead weight most of the time but the one occasion you might need it you will really miss it if you don't have it. Most of the time suppression will help you avoid such circumstances for ever happening in the first place but it won't save you all the time.
Those crits through heavy cover, under suppression and flash bang'd are know for a reason.
>>164895523

Aim and crit while away from allies is only good on snipers, but they don't need aim or crit. The other is pretty good because will becomes more important later on with psionics.

>>164917678
Yes, he's always a heavy. I prefer rapid fire, shredder, heat, but really heat is the only mandatory pick up as the double overwatch isn't as good as it sounds. To get the second overwatch, you need to hit the first and since heavies don't have great aim it's kind of shit.
Should I try to get this armor instead of carapace?

In case you haven't noticed yet, it's a big mistake to activate two pods at once, especially on terror missions. Sometimes it's unavoidable but you want to be very conservative with your movements and only tread explored ground during active engagements.

Can your support throw a smoke and shoot in the same turn? I don't remember what the very first support perk did on vanilla, but drugs are kinda pointless if you don't have that.
Anyway get dense smoke, drugs are mainly useful in your second, lategame A-team, after you've unlocked psionics.
>>164928587
Tbh I've never used drugs ever. Before you unlock psi its pure shit, on the other hand smoke might help you out of some sticky situations. After you get psi its still kind of pointless because mind shield + psi inspiration is usually enough will to mind control anything, and the main point of smoke grenades is to cover your guys if you absolutely have to take shots from aliens.

>>164956424
pod = group of aliens that you activate as one
in the original screenshot you had a pod of lids and a pod of floaters
>>164956424
Group of alines. When you start a mission, game places few of such groups on the map. If you get into sight range of one, it "activates" and start to fight you. Until that, tehy just stay in place.
Thats why people advise to move with caution unless you are pushed by time - in optimal situation, you could fight only one pod at once, with numbers advantage and reduce risk of losing one of your guys.
First time playing Enemy Unknown.
What difficulty? Ironman?
>>164956146
Okay, but there are also other mods that add one or two classes.
Does it even make a sense to run with, say, 4 original and 4 modded ones? Or I should rather disable original ones first?

For my next time I'm thinking let my sniper heal up and give everyone all the frags.
I went through the buildings on the right the first time. Maybe I'll go left through the docks instead. Hopefully avoid a couple engagements and save some frags/rockets. Anything else I should know?
Also how long can I put off the mission before its gone? My Sniper needs 6 days to heal.
>First supply raid mission
>Send out 1 of each class, all are corporals except specialist
>Ranger gets poisoned by Viper, brought to 1 hp due to truck exploding because grenadier missed target and hit truck instead, then dies to poison
>Specialist gets hit by Viper tongue, grabbed THROUGH another truck, which ALSO explodes, killing both her and the Viper
>Grenadier gets knocked out by stun lancer
>Sniper gets rushed by two stun lancers and dies
This is all I have left. Do I restart?
Can I put this off for 3 days?
That's all my Major Sniper needs to heal.

>>164964105
deleted and reposted because the greentext was a terrible idea
Newfoundland tips:
-Back route is safer, docks run the risk of multiple activations.
-Bring lots of explosives (you won't get loot anyway) and high-damage classes and shotguns. A flashbang will slow the lids down but you shouldn't need one. Snipers are poor, shotgun assaults are great.
-When you get to the ship, camp on the deck, around the opening, and keep killing lids until they stop spawning.
-You can have your fastest soldier call the airstrike and give everyone else a headstart.
>>164966393
You know they stop spawning because you'll skip a turn and no lids will spawn.

You should have couple of Assaults, Support and heavies.
Snipers is really out of the question, as soon you're in ship, and going back to starting point.
>>164966819
Sure, easily. I'd exclude the sniper unless you're bringing her because you want her leveled up, and unless I'm misremembering the vanilla weapon stats, a ballistic shotgun will do you more good than a even a laser rifle on the one assault.

In X2 you can play pretty fine without rushing sats (this time in form of resistance comms) for first two or three months. I played without covering more than 3 regions for first few months, but I played on normal, so commander and up will probably need them faster, not because of founds, but because of being able to reach regions with Avatar Project facilities, before doom clock fills up.
There are other ways of getting supplies mid-month and pretty effective at that.

>>164907292
Will these be compatible with vanilla kevlar?
Am I total shit, /xcg/?
Because I still consider early game of X2 harder than EW, mid-game being pretty comfortable, with end-game being harder again.
Yet, when I check opinions around, I constantly run into statements that "wow, game is TOO EASY, after magnetic weapons and first armor, its CAKEWALK, I play on Legendary/Ironman and WOW ITS SO EASY, I even dumped more aliens and Better Advent and Better AI and WOW ITS STILL SO EASY, cant compare to Jagged Alliance 2".
In the meantime, I really have to think about approach, to wipe aliens before they do some serious damage to my guys, because of dodges, higher hp pools and additional abilities. If not the wider arsenal on my squad side (grenedes, various types of ammo, etc) I would make it.
So, I am really that bad and everyone else clear it without even trying?
>>164967153
Theres Mass Effect armors and UNSC Armors for sure.
The UNSC armors are the Reach versions specifically.
What id Advent somehow cloned dinosaurs and strapped rocket launchers to them.
>>164969787
If you can't wipe them all out in a single turn then work on minimizing the damage they'll be able to deal. Flashbangs, stasis, that kinda shit. Especially flashbangs, a well placed flashbang had saved my squads ass (or at least infirmary time) more times than I can count.

You dont understand. I DO those kind of things - I quickly learned the importance of battle scanners, flashbangs, smoke grenedes, Aid Protocol (especially combined with that skill also automatically placing overwatch to affected soldier) and such.
Only first missions had people wounded enough to put them off for 30 days without AWC (luckily, I made it quickly), now I mostly dont lose too much and even if, I have backup people (I do savescum with hacking, tho, I admit that).
And I play on normal. I do consider difficulty fair overall (with more fluctuations compared to EU/EW).
What I ask about is how I freqently run into people claiming that X2 is way too easy and how they do everything without effort on Legendary Ironman, then add mods adding new enemy types, improving AI and in general buffing enemy forces, then still claims its way too easy and lament how games today are shit, will never iprove and how old games were good and hard and all.
I do remember 1.13 Jagged Alliance 2 myself and I dont really consider it MUCH harder than what I see in X2, just different.
Whenever I see such comments, tho, I feel like a shit. And I have very low self esteem.

I wonder how game randomize the nicknames for your soldiers.
"Dzikusek" basically means "little savage" which could be tied to her blademaster spec. But at the same time, first soldier to reach high enough rank to get one - specialist - got "Black Widow".
Any known mods that destroy the performance of this game? I used to run this on max when it first came out, beat it a few times and came back after 6 months or so to check out the mod scene, installed maybe 40 or 50 mods and played through twice and kt was a little slow. Just came back again and took some mods away/added a bunch more and now it stutters along at bare minimum settings. Wtf? I added a bunch of new maps, armor customization, ai overhaul, ragdoll overhaul, basically about 75% of things in the OP copypasta but I didnt expect this to happen.

Dude, there will always be people better than you at certain things, but the same applies for you as well. Also, the people in this thread are all pretty dedicated to xcom, considering that it's been a year after it's release, and several since EW (and even more since the first), so opinions on the game are definitely not the norm.

I also wonder why it is usually paired with complaining how original, first XCOM was truly hard and thus good, while new ones are "console kids trash" and thus unworthy or comparing glorious difficulty of old games with the new ones.
Again, I played classic games like Jagged Alliance 2 and I dont remember them being much harder than XCOM remakes or X2.
I do remember how Silent Storm Sentinels started and how you HAD to savescum during first two, because every single missed shot could ruin mission beyond repair. And that was more annoying than fun.

1, 4 and 6 - Halo Armors + color versions (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=660597695)
2 and 5 - Kerrigan suit (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=743788691)
3 use Anarchy DLC markings on her armor, aside from that its normal WAR Suit from base game
Also, first one use Shephard hairstyle from http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=753069909
I hope I helped.

Usually what happens is some shitter comes here and says xcom isn't fun and it sucks because they are bad at the game. So we tell them to fuck off and git gud. The problem isn't that they are bad, the problem is that they aren't having fun, and blame their lack of skill on the game instead of themselves. Such faggots will never be tolerated, but it has nothing to do with hating on unskilled players, as long as you are having fun no one is going to care.

>>164985137
Personally I disable all DLC because I'm not a fan of the difficulty. The missions are really rewarding, but tend to be unusually hard unless you've done them a lot (kinda like Newfoundland). So either you memorize it and it's tedious or you go in blind and get an unbalanced difficulty spike.
If you're on shaky ground definitely skip, I think DLC missions don't have penalties if ignored.
That's a lot of hostiles.

>>164986868
While preparing the charge, she hears the characteristic whirring of an energy weapon. Even as she reaches for the detonator, a grim resignation set in her jaw, a bolt of plasma removes her head and in doing so seals Earth's fate.
Does anyone know of a mod that lets you scale how big enemy pods are? I want to up the numbers to challenge some larger squad sizes, but I don't want to drown in Advent during Gatecrasher/the first few missions.
>>164986976
Probably the most exciting mission I've ever played. As iI kiled the codex, I actually breathed an audible high of relief and my heart actually dropped when I saw the reinforcements coming. The end of another campaign, but Markovic and Hill will return to do battle once more.
>>164986976
It's a Marksman carbine from Spart117's Standalone Carbines mod. They're great really, because they all have a similar, but much more realistic? feel to the original weapons and use all the original attatchments etc. I would highly recommend using them.
>>164987480
This is your crazy modded campaign right? The one you are trying to balance to get past early game?
>>164987480
Yeah, but I noticed you use custom classes too, so I thought it would be custom type of weapon too.
My bud is so bad at this game. I was watching him through steam last night and this is what he did.
>Classic difficulty
>Portent mission in March
>Advanced his 4 man squad up the right side of the building
>Not over the building for the height advantage or through the building for concealment
>Moves his most forward soldier, a support into activation range while everyone else is barely in engagment range
>the thinman jumps onto the roof so he shoots it with the support who is in full cover. It's a 30% shot
>Later he gets mad when he gets killed.
I know that he normally carries rifles on his assaults but he had a shotgun on this mission I guess cause I always harass him about it and he was bitching that the assault was usless because he couldn't get good shots at range.
I told him to use a rocket on the first thinman activation cause it's really rough on that map but he's telling me about corpses n'shit.
Later I'm telling him not to let the thinmen shoot him, explaining that a thinman on a roof can shoot a man in full cover at 55% but he's all, I don't have any choice! As he restarts the mission over and over because everyone keeps dying.
He might as well roll dice on his floor.
Also it occurs to me that I'm not a good friend to people who are bad at xcom.
>>164987874
Everyone needs to be told to git gud sometimes, it can't be helped. A person who refuses to learn is a lost cause though.
>>164987626
Good memory! Yeah that's right. I have to say, the midgame was kind of easy because the activated pods that aren't directly fighting your soldiers constantly overwatch when moving to the fight due to the AI, which means they don't arrive as soon as they might. That said, I was constantly losing soldiers. But 2 missions ago, I lost a few captains, and the previous mission to this one I lost a Major, so I would say it's pretty good.
However, I didn't rush Plated or Magnetic weapons this plathrough, which made it more fun, but probably a lot harder than it needed to be.
>>164987874
>but he's telling me about corpses n'shit

Are there mods that enable me to hack or activate missions objectives without breaking stealth?
Using mods I am able to slowly stealth my way towards the objective. I replace timers with constant threat of spawning enemies if I get caught. Which is a lot when most of the enemies camp the objective. But not all missions, some have timers. I even have classes that can kill in stealth but have a chance to reveal themselves. At a length of five inches, and a bottom girth of three inches, it was definitely nothing trivial for a novice at anal insertion. The thing was made of a solid core of hypersensitive alien alloy, surrounded by a ridged, bumpy layer of rubber; at the top, the alloy was exposed in order to allow it to 'collate brainwaves', or so the doctor had said.

I really hate how insanely random these missions are with the placements. Sometimes you get them extremely close and other times you end up with them being in some extremely terrible spots that is basically just the game saying fuck you.
>>165027173
Naw, they just got nerfed from being nearly unkillable. Archers (rocketeers), Pathfinders (scouts), Maruaders (assaults) are all worth your time to consider. Archers's are undisputed for pure AOE damage and just pure dps. Guardians (gunners) need some more support now, but are pure tanks. Usually backing them up with a psi-medic and priotizes ayys with heat lets them still tank most everything. Many like Jaegars (snipers) though honestly long war snipers are so good, I don't really see them as being high priority. They are expensive though, so keep that in mind. They also don't gain xp quite as fast as regular soldiers since they get reduced mission xp.
>>165028049

When you make a MEC in vanilla, you keep all stats except will, which gets rerolled. So you want guys with high non-will stats if you want to optimize attributes. These will usually be snipers and supports.
Guys who got critically wounded (when they drop dead and you have to stabilize or lose them) are always prime MEC fodder since they've lost a lot of will.
The class-based mec perk is best from assaults and supports, but it's not terrible on snipers and heavies either.

God that's annoying. Is there a mod to do it X2 style where everyone takes their shots in turn?
>>165033491
Unfortunately no.
>Can see thin man behind full cover
>Blow up his cover with nade
>Can't see him anymore
>Sniper dies on the third mission
>That's fine, I'll just get another
>My barracks now have 3 heavies, 2 assaults and 5 supports
Fuck you Xcom
>>165033916
In case you don't understand why it happens:
blue is the full cover, green is the thin mint. When he's touching cover he also counts as occupying the adjacent spaces (light green). You generally don't see the space behind cover (since it's behind a tall object), you see those light green adjacent spaces.
When you destroy the cover he stops counting as present in those adjacent spaces but suddenly there's no longer a tall wall between you and the dark green space so you can still see him. If your soldier is in a weird place, like the red X in the picture, there can be a situation where you don't see the dark green space even after the cover is destroyed, and since the ayy no longer counts as occupying the light green spaces you lose sight of him.
Usually happens when you have a soldier on a roof and an ayy is hugging the roof wall but also sticking out due to another piece of cover.

Anyone see this footage released recently? Chilean Navy released it, shows a UFO invisible to radar flying and emitting some kind of thermal gas/vapor. Very /x/, but I thought it would be interesting to the general.
What class of XCOM UFO do you think it would be and how many aliens would we encounter if we shot it down?

This is cool as fuck, makes me wish there was a first person tactical shooter set in XCOM.
>Have an Assault with Close Combat Specialist
>Park him on an enemy drop-flare
>He takes a shot at all four of them when they land
I did this all the time, but suddenly he stopped doing it. Now he only fires on ONE of them instead of all of them, even when he as ammo.
I haven't changed any mods, did something get updated or broken?

I checked because I've encountered everything else already. Even Gatekeepers.

Personally, I think Bradford didn't spend 20 years looking for the Commander. I think he spent maybe 10 of those 20 years in a loving relationship with a snekwife when one day he came home from work to find her cheating on him with a Sectoid.
So what would your guys dream mod or DLC be? I personally would love an overhauled destruction mechanic that is suitable for massive interior levels. Throwing a grenade that doesn't destroy the ceiling and floor and smaller charges that destroy single tiles of walls for maximum operator breaching. And a better vertical camera.
>>165043321
I want maps that are nothing but interiors, very dense with all forms and angles of cover; making explosives even more important.

You can increase their appereance easily if you want. They don't have much uses as corpses though, the item their autopsy gives is trash

>Psionic Zone Fielding (Advent are using brain magic to stop air craft from landing, xcom soliders air dropped into 2 evenly split starting spots) disabled by destroying a sateliie thing
>Cloning Vats (ADVENT have another forge made and are producing double troopers) disable by destroying the new forge
3) Bayonets
4) Able to train sparks off mission
5) Deep strike sparks (able to drop pod in sparks, this does some damage to enemies and rams to the bottom floor of buildings)

2) with proxy mines you can merc the viper king in one turn, step up your men, mine the spawn, activate it with bradford with everyone else on overwatch.
One of these is not like the others.
>>165049009

I took two missions to kill the archon king as he made it to the portal, got his last 20hp because when I blind fired a shredder rocket into a building the game said "archon king is burning" so I bombed the ever loving shit out of the building.

He's just been on hiatus, but he's been working on a heavily modded X2 campaign (completely re-worked classes, everyone has one perk tree and weapons give perks) with guerrilla war, so the rumors are unfounded.
>>165060885
he's just burnt out, around the second half of 2015 he was juggling multiple LW campaigns which led to him playing OpenXCOM to try something fresh. when XCOM 2 came out he was spending hours just configuring and trying out mods/balance setups, and he said he preferred having a separate group like the LW team do all that work so he could just focus on playing. after a couple months of this he went on a hiatus and is just working on XCOM series for youtube privately.
>>165061096
Pretty sure those are just stream vods.
>>165061218

>>165061696
True, everytime i get promotion for my rookies and i get specialist class choice, i got flustered with that BS.
Not to mention that most of my current rookies are perfect candidates for rocketeers due to their highest mobility, and RNG decides to be bitch.
Had to sigh that out and got what i get.
>>165034946
Quality post
>>165063020
Personally I play without commanders choice because I enjoy wondering what to do with rookies that fall into the "wrong" superclass, but back when LW was all anyone posted about here, everyone else used it.
>>165062328
When they're captured they become VIP for you to rescue.
>>165062448
And what he said can bring back via council mission.
>>165063020
Also I don't think high mob is that good for rocketeer, 12 is minimum and 13 is ideal but going beyond that I'd make a gunner. For rocketeers I just want as high aim as possible, high will is an advantage, mobility just has a minimum threshold.
>>165062448
>>165063575
Oh thank Christ for that
>>165063748
I go low health, decent to good aim, average to high mobility = rocketeer
high health, average to low aim, average to low mobility = gunner
Rocketeers need more mobility than gunners imo
>>165064085
I like putting double tap on my gunners so it's really noticeable when a gunner has low mobility and can't take full advantage of his multifire. Plus they tend to be officers which makes mobility even more important.
Rocketeers have a lower health gain from their class, so I tend to make them from rookies with higher base health to make up for it, that's a rule I follow for the engineer/medic choice too. Plus having high health makes their loadout more flexible: when you don't need to carry extra rockets so you can equip armor or aim items, and when you do need extra rockets, you can put mobility armor and rely on the high base health to stay above the OHK threshold.
>>165058576
I felt like it rewarded me instead.
>>164885207
Someone should make this a mod.
>>165064670
I usually go for rapid fire on my gunners, because double tap seems to risky to me. I feel like rocketeers can chill behind the back of the sqaud relatively safe, while I want my gunners up front, potentially tanking shot due to positioning and how often I"m suppressing something.
I guess it just goes to show there is always more than one way to do something in LW.

Do you guys take dark event counters into consideration when choosing guerilla missions?
>>165069892
Yes, mostly to prioritize stopping Avatar progress.
>>165067356
Btw in case you didn't know squad members who died and got resurrected take a permanent will hit. If that happens a few times their will gets very low they panic easily and become pretty much useless. I learned this hard way
>>165069892
I mean thats the whole point. I value what the Event will do much more than the reward.
It'll also vary heavily by how I'm doing on resources. If I'm low on Intel and need the next amount of it I get for making contact then I'm probably going to prioritize countering a Dark Event that will double Intel cost. Especially if the region I'm trying to get to has an Avatar Facility, preventing a pip on the progress bar via a Dark Event won't mean anything if I can't get to the thing adding multiple pips to it.

Is there anyway to change the Autosaving in XCOM 2 to only happen at the beginning of the mission?
I used a "Restart Mission" mod for EW, so if I wanted to fix a mistake I had to start over, lowering my save scumming, however the restart mission mods for XCOM 2 seem to not work well, so I'm wondering if there's an alternate solution.

Both I think. I know the covert op does for sure. If the raid reduces panic, it reduces it worldwide. You will also get more money if you do the covert op and then raid. It's up to you if you want to do less missions and take less of a risk, but maybe lose mexico and the cash.

>>165094002
Particle canon is the final tier. Don't worry, he'll be really good against one of the later tier enemies. Also for future reference, the Strike Module (Punch) scales better into the lategame because of it's high single target damage imo.

CAN'T MOSSAD THE ASAD
>>165098942
Sorry lad, that's just where it would be if anyone was actually going to mod it. Though I could have sworn I saw someone post that exact pic their...
>Take control of a damaged enemy MEC
>Run him into a group of enemies
>Use mini-missiles to kill them and himself
>Two people panic because the enemy robot I was controlling died
Are you shitting me? Every day I'm more surprised with how incompetent Firaxis is
My MEC got killed but I stabilized him.
I'm on an EXALT mission If I finish and extract will it auto grab him or will he be left behind?
I can't revive him, no more medkits.
>>165099228
Pretty sure you need to kill all hostiles if you want him to survive.
>>165099517
Actually I was doing Portent earlier and was surprised when 2 soldiers who were downed survived. I evacuated the VIP and my last soldier up died, but it said 2 survived. Turns out thim nen are fooled by playing dead.
>>165099804
Well that's nice to know.
>>164898887
Post 'em
>>165099517
Kill all Exalt.
Everyone Survived I even had a second troop go into Critical and he was fine.
>capture advent mission
>just recently got second-tier armor and unlocked all magnets
>berserker queen shows up
Fuck me. Just fuck me. What the fuck am I supposed to do now.
Rate my base
>>165100775
Freeze, dots, shoot it. Pray to God.
>>165100869
I just gotta bring Chen's robohusbando and as many frags and shredders as I can, then?
All right. Let's do this. Maybe.
I'm doing ok so far I think.
>>165101342
>"D.O.A"
That's just asking for it, really
>>165100775
Zerker queen it's very easy if you have gas grenades and mag weapons, far easier than the viper king or the archon king. The zerker queen will be unable to move because of the continous damage inside the cloud.
So, just bought the xcom2 humble deal.
Should I buy any dlc now or wait for a sale? Am I missing much without any of them?
>>165102994
Buy Shen's Last Gift and Alien Hunters
Disregard everything else.
>>165098942
I wanna fuck sam's ass
>>164900819
I just don't know how they're going to make the slow drawn out fights of long war work with the fast timer based "kill everything first turn it get fucked" gameplay of X2.
>>165102571
Cannot gas just yet.
Will invest into, but too late now.

This wasnt so bad.
>>165104098
Now do it on Classic difficulty
Post QTs
Any fixes for framerate? I have aLinux
New parcel in some mod soon
>>165106951
It runs on Linux?
>>165107298
That looks more like one of those scary-game mods for Half-Life 2.
>>165100108
You sure? It's not really exciting stuff.
>>165104098
It's a start.
>>165098047
Ready to get my ass blasted.
>>165097235
And I did it in the name of Mankind.
>>165108463
Against EXALT? No way.
Those are just pushovers.
>>165108463
So is the implication here that the harboring nation is actually, knowingly protecting EXALT?
>>165107532
Yea, both xcoms do
>>165087054
REMOVE SNAKE
>>165108684
Given the size of their global agenda, there is no doubt that they knew to a good extent.
>>165108785
Before any autistic screeching - both new do. Old ones will run on anything modern
>>165108808

>nazis took refuge on Argentina by the end of WWII
>Exalt base is on Argentina
coincidence?
>>165108952
>>Old ones will run on anything modern
Even on a Game Boy.
>>165109392
In my first run of EW France surrendered to the aliens and, eventually, it was discovered that the EXALT HQ was in their country as well.
>>165109392
My thoughts exactly
I set off so many pods holy shit
Ofcourse its pretty hard to be sneaky with a giant mec.
>>165109902
It's really hard to not set up a lot of patrols in the beginning of the mission unless you really want to work with the initial cover you are given and wait a bit but even then it's not a sure fire thing.
Is SPARKS good?
>>165095616
Can you do the reverse?
>>165110589
Not better than another grenadier.
On a more serious note, they have poor offensive abilities, but are an ok tank, the problem with that is that you might as well just have another soldier kill more aliens than have the spark absorb a hit. They can also be mobile cover, but that can backfire if the enemy uses aoe.
>>165110589
Kinda meh in the strict sense of the word.
A soldier is usually a better choice at the moment but SPARKs can easily work if you want to go with them and there are some configurations that can even be considered over-powered.
>>165109449
Yes, even on a modern GameBoy
>>165110589
I wonder if they will re-balance the SPARKs in the expansion. And what on Earth will they do to them in LW2...
>>165109047
FUCKING GREY KNIGHTS REEEEEEEEEDrop pods in xcom when? I want to deep strike my ranger.
>>165111896
>>Drop pods
That would be crazy and more of a Planetary Invasion than an underground resistance.Sing me in, Heretic.
Exalt confirmed for pussies
I even used all exalt weapons against them for style points
Kinda Disappointing they didn't have an Exalt version of Bradford/Vahlen/ Shen/ Councilman.
What Should I do with all their tech and loot?
>>165112214
>>Exalt confirmed for pussies.
Told you.
Sell the loot if you need the cash. Otherwise there is no need to keep it around other than trophy material.
this is my first choice of dark events
the one of the right will give squadsight to all advent
the one of the left is the permanent version of the one on the right
also i play with all pods activating when breaking concealment and ABA2, so the idea of Advent with squadsight terrifies me
>>165112214
Hot damn that is one BIG tiger
>Kinda Disappointing they didn't have an Exalt version of Bradford/Vahlen/ Shen/ Councilman.
You probably killed them during the raid
>What Should I do with all their tech and loot?
The grey market will tell you what is good to sell (vast majority of it). read the descriptions though, fun little read.
