Amber wizards are great. They can summon manticores and have good damage spell. They can also be mounted on Griffons.

Light Wizard got a net spell that can immobilize and a decent missile spell.

Grey Wizard got great damaging spells and a costly, but good buff

Jade Wizard got great healing spells.

Lore of Vampires is probably one of the best magic lores. You got a good missile spell, great heal spell, can summon a shitton of skeletons and zombies and has a devastating, but tricky to use wind spell.

Reminder that Warhams was so successful that the next historical title will be warhammerfied on the campaign and the battle.
This means:
- shallow campaign gameplay: few buildings, meaningless resources, less mechanics overall
- lacking animations on the battlefield: Why bother making reloading animations if nobody gives a shit in warhammer
- DLC as expensive as warhammer DLC, because why shouldn't they try if people are now used to the higher prices

Face it, history shitters. You will have to buy warhammer, even if it's not on the box.

There was always that aspect of creating "stories" of your favorite generals and such since R1/M2 thanks to the campaign

Complex campaign eatures make me fell more immersed. In Warhammer it feels like I'm shuffling lifeless fugires around and cities don't really feel like cities. which it ok i guess for a game that comes from table top.

But in Attila the food and sanitation/illness makes the world more living.
I really like the population mechanic in Med2. This made the black plague even more devastating, seen how the population shrinks drastically.

Unite your province, build walls in all the settlements in Reikland while you fight off any hordes, Do the closeby quest battle you get.

Now you can either blitz Carroburg and peace out with Middenland on the same turn or you could concentrate on Marienburg(You get a shit ton of money by holding it).

You should also consider removing Skarsnik before he becomes a problem.

You should recruit an extra small army to help defend while you build walls. AI also gets scared when you have a big fucking army so there is a less chance they will declare war on you.

Mentioning M2 was the first mistake, especially when in itself it managed to take away stuff from the previous games, both M1 and R1, while managing to take stuff that previously worked on the same engine and break it completely out of shape.

Then you forget that starting from empire there was a fucking tech tree and trade wasn't retarded anymore.

With S2 and R2/Attila the empire management stopped being LOL LET'S JUST BUY EVERYTHING I CAN AFFORD and started requiring some form of planning. Simple planning at that, yes, but it still beats what you had to do before, which was absolutely nothing.

He and his men chased arran all the way from the caucasus mountains to the shore of the baltic sea just to raze their last remaining settlement to the ground. Under his guidance the eastern campaign against the sassanids turned from a drawn out war from a one sided culling of pompous easterners.

He isn't perfect of course, as despite all his success, he still hasn't had a single child, even though he and his wife both have traits that boost the chances of having kids

Tomb Kings should be pretty fun to play in battles at least since they aren't too reliant on magic like VC and will probably work off regeneration within character auras like liche priests and tomb kings. I hated the redesigns gw implemented though, before they made giants and ushabti from bone and they changed it to stone constructs which really ruins the sinister and deathly aspect of them. Having finally removed the sassanids and their buttbuddies from the east, I am now sitting at 30/40 factions destroyed thanks to some liberation followed by backstabbing. There are 5 factions left in-game besides me (jutes, geats, rugians, angles, and anteans), but hopefully when the time comes for war I will be able to pull similar liberation shenanigans.

The only provinces I need to control are Italia and Narbonesis: Italia has one minor settlement owned by the jutes, and Narbonesis is still abandoned except for one Jute town.

An incredibly powerful formation and type of soldier in the Greek context where civ are quite developed and warfare is a bit more complex than simple head-on engagement since they basically acted like movable spiked walls so you could easily manage a equally powerful enemy army into a precarious situation so you could eventually use tactics to turn the fight in your favor, alas against non-greek cultures that favor speed and mobility over proper and defined tactics they were pretty much useless.

Basically, it suffered the fate of a specialized troops being used outside its intended context. Just like how snipers would be utterly ineffective if you'd use them in close-quarter situations. It was a formation made to buttfuck arrogants greek cities state that sought to turtle it up behind their walls when shit hit the fan, especially the shit they themselves started.

Sound like its related to how the unit interpret the charge attack, because the alt+click hotkey is there so you can tell your missiles troops or whatnot to go into melee without having to toggle the option each and every time, it is useful in fights where numbers is all that matter and your missiles troops have no more ammo and/or some enemies troops are near routing, since a mass of +500 or more shitty archers going in tend to crush the morale of even the hardiest troops, especially if its far into the fight. It is useful when using missile cavalry, shoot into their flanks and backside while they move and charge in repeatedly when they are distracted by some others troops, work quite well to rout some exhausted enemies or a front-line that is tired/shaken but doesn't want to rout.

Maybe its because the AI isn't sure if you're asking the AI to go up to the enemies troop and confront them or just charge into their flank to retreat afterward, now I can't help but wonder if it would work as a tactic if I shift+click(another useful hot-key, basically it create a spot for your troop to move to, but you can put more than one in a row, quite useful for micromanaging your troops emplacement on the battlefield whitout having to move all over the battlefield all the time to give certain unit specific orders like running around the enemy to attack their backside while you're busy with the frontline) in a direction after the charge to see if the cavalry does move away or they simply stay in the fight.

Why bother with the Dwarfs at all, just ignore them and kill the Empire factions.

Speaking of Dwarfs though, will Gyros ever become useful, the bombers strong missile attack is doing fuckall. Just from the stats it should function as a mobile cannon even after you've dropped the bombs which would make it a useful unit but in actual gameplay it is so weak it feels almost bugged.

That like comparing professional football leagues with amateur ones, it just an entire different world and context, not that there isn't some hint of tactic behind a mentality of speed and mobility but rather they such mentality prevent and also kind of make useless the use of properly defined tactics akin complex armies formations that are required in civilized warfare so you don't get utterly shafted by his own tactics.

Empire already has elite heavy infantry so you just choose a different skin for them, no problem of any sort with that. And bretonnia has so many holes in its roster that can't be covered by cavalry it's not even funny.

This is when the bretonnian aristocracy were a mix of arthurian knights but with pre revolution french aristocracy and when man-o-war was canon, where bretonnian ships were essentially 1st rate ships of the line, frigates with cannons and with the late french sailing ship asthetics

But this was all early bretonnia. They changed in fifth edition to be more arthurian and then in 6th they were made even more limited and meme.

That's a really hard question to answer because how enjoyable a quest battle is depends a lot on the army you brought to it.

Like, the first quest battle I played was the the one for Azhag's crown I rushed into it really quick and it was a hell of a time because I went at it with a mostly early-game army while it felt pretty obvious that it was designed to be tackled with at least a mid-game army.

But if I had to pick one to be the best I would pick Gelt's last quest battle, the one against an Empire army led by a Light wizard.

alright lads what adjustments, if any, should I make to my army comp for the upcoming war with the jutes/geats? This is the comp I used vs the Sassanids but the vikings will obv be more infantry focused. I'm thinking about replacing the jav cav with more grey hairs and swapping out 2 noble alani to have more alani heavy cataphracts, who have amazing melee stats and a bonus vs infantry. I'm not sure if I should make all of my infantry agathyrsi, or just keep the main line as is

Immersion adding for sure. It also impacts you army composition as well, though not too severely. For example, the elite Royal Hoplites and Cav are recruited from Nobles, whom I have about 400-500 per region at the moment. Population strati also affect the economy so recruiting all your nobles into elite units and getting them killed would have repercussions. Also, it's nice that you can't replenish your troops if you're campaigning in foreign cultural soil.

Well it was quite interesting learning how different Bretonnia was initially.

The income loss also makes battles far more decisive. I have been babysitting my noble cavalry a lot more now that they actually leave an impact on my campaign.

My next to do thing is to play as macedonia, conquer dacia and slowly hellenize it.

I also love the military settler buildings that the mod adds. It just adds that extra level of immersion and makes you feel like you are slowly hellenizing a region rather than using a priest and turning the whole province greek.

FotS is pretty much just a playground for firepower displays since the AI doesn't have any interest in building artillery or actually competent rifles. In other words, the AI doesn't care about winning.

Although I will say trying to do a 100% traditional army as a Shogun-allied clan is fun and challenging as fuck. Half the time I'd always have to rely on dips in the ground to break line of sight, and the AI was dumb enough to not have artillery to draw me out or they'd straight up charge me.

I have 3 hordes with brayherds and 2 stacks are pretty good (I don't like spamming elites its boring)

Early game I hid but I don't have to right now, most of the time my brayherds break off by themselves and wipe isolated ministacks. It has also been a weird campaign.

Although I will admit, I haven't quite figured out the best way to deal with their skirmisher cav other than using crossbows or archers to try and get them to fuck off.

Yes

Each race is wildly different, no more 50 sahdes of barbar. Micromanagement is shifted towards spells and abilities over formations, bracing is applied on units who stand still with the right trait. No province spreadsheeting with things like squalor or food, public order and corruption are not hard though some factions are better at dealing with it. Individual characters are strong but beatable and manageable. Map is a little cluttered in some areas, a little too open in very few, some nice chokes for mountain factions. Sieges/Settlements aren't fully flushed out yet but its a very good field battle experience which might be what they were prioritizing for a first title.

I am so sick of being the only aggressor in Total Warhammer unless the AI has an undeniably huge advantage against me. I think 9/10 battles I will be attacked on even terms, and in my measly 500+ hours have never, NEVER had to fight a siege defensive battle unless it was some minor garrison vs three full enemy chaos stacks.

Also do Spearmen and Halberds get bracing against charges? It never looks like they do anything to visualize them bracing against a charging foe, I do however see units with shields raise them to block archer fire.

I find the mounts are shit for most lords, unless it is a flying mount.

Because it is arcadey bullshit that makes them far too versatile. I hope they never bring it back and stick to how they did it in Warhammer, where each arrow type is a different unit. The reason you can arch arrows is because they are going so many times slower, which means many times less power. It will punch through armour like nothing, and it will tear apart flesh like a shotgun slug.
