Not the anon you responded to, but basically the overall feel I got from fault was this:

It is a series of unrelated stories all attempting to share one overarching story as a framing device.

You're presented with this initial duo of characters, the princess and her bodyguard. All signs lead to them being main protagonists, and truthfully the game tries to treat them as such. They're clearly fleshed out and given a big conflict to overcome right from the start, and you're ready to buckle up to see how they tackle said big conflict.

... except they DON'T, really. They soon encounter some other story/problem that is DECIDEDLY NOT THEIRS but manage to get wrapped up in what is, as literally as it gets, Someone Else's Problem.

It's this break that I found offputting about fault, which makes me sad because I really, really want to like it from how high its production values are. Truthfully, each of the "stories" that the princess and bodyguard end up poking their noses into has the potential to be a great short story - by itself.

Instead, the story somehow tries to get told through the princess and the bodyguard when it is decidedly Not Their Problem, when it Happened Already, when It Has Nothing To Do With Them, and this gets really jarring because each of those stories ends up feeling extremely elongated exposition (often including extended series of flashbacks!) instead of part of any real "core" plotline.

It reads like the author had a bunch of really unrelated short story ideas that would be GOOD as short stories on their on merits, but was told he could only publish a single intellectual property/work, and fault's weird "story that runs into other unrelated stories" is his attempt to get them all written and produced.

I did end up enjoying the characters, and the game as a whole(or at least Meiya's route). Just if Extra was a standalone game, or if everyone didn't say Unlimited and Alternative are where it gets good, I don't think I would've bothered.
