These insectoids come from an intelligent hive that sends out drones to scout and destroy humans, and they don't care whether they're disemboweling us or the zombies meandering around our map edges. There are 3 hordes on borders and we've been trying to find a spare moment to clear them out, but daily tasks have kept us too busy.

The bugs are tearing through the zombies one by one, the zombies fight back when attacked but the infection is limited to humankind.

If you select a colonist or enemy and mouse over a target, it tells you what chance they have to hit and what factors are contributing to their chances. You can also go into the colonists info and look at their shooting abilities to see what is affecting them, like if they have cataracts or a missing hand that obviously makes it a lot harder for them to hit stuff. So I'm trying to attach the geothermal generator to my base, but I don't want to just create a long line of circuits that are exposed to rain because that'll cause issues I believe. Best way to recruit them is to give them a reasonably sized room, a nice bed, a table and chair, feed them good meals, and fill their room with statues.

I managed to bring someone with something like 0.05% chance up to 1% chance just by doing the above. If you find someone you really want you can go the distance to make it more feasible.

It does, as well as infect pawns unless they're wearing tiberium suits. If you ever read any of the C&C novels you'll know that tib infection is brutal (you have no choice but to sever the affected limb).
It's not perfect, I've found the tib spread to be way too fast and turned it down in the DLLs, as well as it spreads infnitely. You either contain it with walls or the whole map will eventually be consumed.

You can refine different kinds of tib into resources, though, so harvesting and processing it is worthwhile.

The mod also adds things like blossom trees and visceroids, it's great. The mod author's adding in C&C-inspired buildings in 2.0, power generation and defences and so on.

It's definitely a lot better than it used to be, where you didn't get stuff like enemies acting smarter than usual, sieges, drop pods, etc. so basically every single attack had no choice but to go straight through a single choke point on the map if you built it like that, which is easy to do. I personally just play on a slightly lower difficult if necessary and don't build killboxes because it feels cheesy as fuck. I like mods that make automatic turrets actually difficult to make and something you have to work towards. Still needs work, though.

Yeah, I prefer bunkers that lean towards aesthetics than towards practicality. Though I am still in my "tuning" stage because it's very easy to create a choke that trivializes most raids in the game until you start mass producing plasteel sculptures.

I would probably just remove the wall in picture related. The bunker design is fun but the wall funnels things too easily.

We're also in an alpha, though not necessarily a fool-proof excuse nowadays, but Tynan seems very dead set in nerfing turtling as mentioned.

The only one I don't agree with is the short circuit one.
All you need to do is uninstall batteries when they're at 100%. Or just attach switches to batteries so you can turn them off when not needed.
Also towards late-game I tend to redo my entire electric network splitting it into several grids I can connect or separate with switches to minimize the amount of stored energy at all times.

The main problem is that there aren't any other events other than raid events. The game needs more bug-type events, where the threat comes from inside the base. Maybe your sculptures come alive because mechanites yo, or whatever. The point is in almost every scenario you can either wall yourself off until the threat fucks off or at worst you can counter battery a siege. It'd also be pretty cool if your animals/colonists got fucked up or kidnapped in the middle of the night snatcher style.

If you're planning on moving all your colonists consider stocking up on a lot of food, silver, components, etc. to make the trip and re-settlement easier.

With that many colonists you'll need quite a lot of food to move any significant distance, be warned. With about 200ish meals I was able to move 2 colonists and a few pets 50-60ish days if I wanted to, as reference.

True that there must be some weapons that aren't that good, but you'll use them because its going to be all you have.
Even if you have the best weapon in the game, you need ammunition for it. So you'll be using your worse weapons simply because you have more bullets for them.
What I like the most about this mod is the slowdown in technology progression.
You'll spend a good long while without electricity because of the need for circuitry and electronic components.
Getting your first freezer is a really big deal. Getting a communication console is an even bigger deal.
I'll actually be done mining out my base before its time to leave the planet.

What it wants you to modify is just placing a config file in the appdata where the game reads it and sets mod order for you.

Conflicts aren't super common, as long as you sort of pay attention and give descriptions a read to see if they point out any problems with compatibility, you should be fine. As long as you're not going too crazy with how many you're sticking in you probably won't get many issues. I've got like 20-25 installed at the moment and the only major problems I've had is some duplication of things, like unnecessary cloth production, tilled soils, cooking, etc. but you can just not use one of them in-game or go in and remove that from the mod if you want. A lot of mods have been around for a while and the more popular ones have worked out what they conflict with mostly. Most of them even work perfectly fine without starting a new save.

Think I finally found the best way to deal with hauling on big bases and animals that produce milk.

Simply put I made a giant compound with walls.

In the walls there is enough room for grass to grow normally, but also I grow a lot of hay.

The muffalos are allowed to eat the hay, but it is best that you harvest it but that's not important.

What is important is what muffalos you let inside your base.

See what happens is suddenly whatever farm animals you have, they breed like crazy. So I setup a simple rule(s):

1. Males go outside of the walls, into the wild.
2. Only one alpha male stays inside walls to pregnate.
3. Caffs can stay in the walls.
4. Females inside walls ensures fast milking / shearing.

And the most important thing is setting over 50% of your bases people have Hauling set as Priority 1. Rest have to be 2's unless they are a doctor. Simply put half of your guys will not do anything unless critical like medicine and focus on hauling.

Before I knew it, shit like food and devilstrand, wood etc. found it's way into storages on time and now my muffalo bitches are happily producing milk and wool.

The rest of the male muffalos outside of the walls are happily fighting wild life and raiders.

Anybody else who likes doing tribal/no electricity/no modern weapons runs? I find it to be great fun, but there are some problems like having to have large numbers to beat raids or having no easy way to get rid of already rotten bodies. How have others' experiences been?

We do need solid shields in this game, though. Probably will be hard to code without making them retardedly overpowered against ranged, though, since in the code arrows and bullets simply use damage + piercing, meaning that a shield might be just as effective against machinegun fire as it would be against rocks and arrows.
Might be that you'd have to create a new damage class for ballistic weapons to stop a simple iron shield from being a broken invincibility button.

I like to use another tactic. I put my archers (about 80% of my total force) in a firing line along the vector of approach, usually fortified earlier with sandbags (i use them because there are no alternatives like trenches) and on both sides of the sandbags I have walls where my melee warriors are hiding. If archers start sustaining injures or hostiles get too close, archers back off, melee hits the rear of the hostiles once they pass the sandbag line. This way archers can start firing again without fear of hitting melee and enemies are surrounded on both sides. Kind of autistic and probably not entirely optimal, but I like micromanaging soldiers.

Hardcore SK mod feels neat if it comes to early game and tribe plays. It's in test-version for A16 but works ok thus far. I actually plan on trying out Nomad run with dromadery pack soon. It also contains some camping mod that allows to set quick, bases on map world - something like tents I guess.
I still need to check if hcsk changes numbers on traveling food needs and stuff alike. Vanilla is annoying if it comes to that.

There's no consequence to your decisions, just RNG bullshit. Use unskilled tribals to erect a tower citadel worthy of your glory, or have your one glitterworld constructor make it and take ten times as long? Doesn't matter because there will always be mystical wiring faults at the exact same frequency. Also the features you add look cool but have the depth of a puddle, like the world map that is totally irrelevant. You can be surrounded by impassable tiles on all sides but people will still walk onto the map to raid you, and caravneering is boring and unprofitable and the events are even worse than normal. Etcetera etcetera. It's a good thing the game is so moddable because mods are the life support that keep it limping along.

That said I'll probably buy it when you finish it. I'd probably buy it at $15, maaaybe $20, definitely $10 if it goes on sale again, but $30?

I did the math. The chance of one round missing is 40/100 or 0,4, I've got 3 colonists with 3 rifles, so that's 9 shots per volley. So the odds of them missing are 0.4 to the power of 9, which you then multiply by 100 to turn into a percentage. Which, according to my calculations, means there was a 0,026% chance of all of them missing. And that's just for one volley. They missed all 4, so you jack that shit up to the power of 4 and my calculator spits out a 0,000 000 000 000 457% chance of that shit happening.

So either there's some fuckery going on here or I just witnessed something nearly statistically impossible. Well, either that or I've gone full retard and forgot how percentages work.

I played about hour or two today. Set some stuff up and started crashlanding run. Worked fine for that time and haven't run on any bugs yet.
That said I'm absoluetly sure it's still chokefull of them. Maybe even the ones that appear 5-10 hours into the run with some new tech. That's most likely why it wasn't released as 5.0 jewel-version yet but it's still sits in 5.0 Test-version.

Try it out if you want but I wouldn't recommend going deep into it just yet. It also misses some parts like living dead and shit alike so it's still wip for sure.

Problem with that is even melee fight 5vs1 looks like pawns bumping into one another for a minute. There isn't even log report to read DF style. All you can do is to pause 200 times a fight to see what happened now.
Which makes me wonder... have anyone seen mod that'd bring out damage from health summary to the screen? Similiar to how CR brings up all the taunting and screaming in the form of small text messages next to the pawn?

Yea I agree. That'd be lovely to see. Current way of showing damage is messy as all hell. Info about different body parts is all jumbled together. Colors help a bit in recognizing how severe was damage but it's still showed in some odd order.

My dream come true would be small graphical presentation. Something like Vitruvian Man or Vault-boy like representation. this way you could input different races with more or less body parts. Wings, tails, horns, mechanoids, animals etc.

It can be a bit overwhelming. I imagine most of us pause the game at the start and start fiddling around on the map to get our bearings too. Also you can use WASD to pan the map around, in case you're used to games like Civ, which feels a lot natural to people used to First Person Shooters.

Just recently got Rimworld, having fun so far.
Decided to try out a Permadeath run after practising with the different mechanics on another save file.

Decided to build my base on a marsh area for the helpful slow debuffs which can help with raids and it's secure location behind a few mountains.

Managed to renovate an old mini-ruin into a barrack, too. The sandstone walls and floors helps give the room a nice design, in my opinion.

How does my lil' colony look so far?

Does the hit chance account for moving targets? Bullets are awfully slow in the game, what would be a 93% hit on a stationary target is a horrible miss the second it moves.
I feel like 90% of casualties to gunfire die whitin twenty tiles no matter how much I increase the range and accuracy. the only thing that improves the chance to hit a target is how many bullets I send downrange imho. Might try to increase bullet speed to see if this helps.

I had a colony that was mainly rooms dug in to a mountain, and a circuit blew and caught the main rooms on fire. By the time everyone made it to the fire they were cooked alive from the heat. I'll be honest, I toned it down a little bit on the difficulty on this one. Now that i'm a little more established too, it's been easier to defend because the AI is pretty predictable and I designed it to employ some l33t urban warfare tactics. I've probably had to rebuild at least 6 buildings so far though from explosions and fire. I'm trying to figure out how to have good defenses while keeping it slightly low tech, you know?

My dudes, Rick and Mushinto, are great at dealing with enemies due to their good shooting stats, but considering that most of the invaders I've had were simple bandits armed with clubs and shit, and the only real "threat" was a lady in a suit of armour who was armed with a crossbow that she was terrible at using, I don't feel all that confident in our ability to handle an small group of armoured foes with just a rifle and a crossbow.

I played NeoScavenger. I remember system there accounted for cuts, bruises and some other wounds while you also could put banadages and stuff on. It was presented there on realistic silhoutte while in Rimworld all we have to present human beings are those blobs with heads.
NS-like stuff is exactly what I'd have on my mind but maybe with extra line of text coming from the wounded body part that mentions the severity. Missing body parts would just get grayed out. Maybe for organs and bones there should be different filters so you just jump between layers of x-ray modes on the model.

...but holy shit I have no clue why I'm diving into thinking about that. I can do the Rimworld friendly design and art bit with no problem. Question is if that's even possible to mod in the game in the place of current health display.

My personal problem with RW is that there isn't much to do after you were successful with a big colony. Reaching 15 colonists isn't hard, sure could take time if you cherry pick them but that's all. There are no end game events, most events are arbitary and not fun at all. The game limits you wherever it can.

If this game even wants to be the DF killer (it won't) then it failed from the start.

RW is still in progress with a pretty lively developer. It does seems like the dev is losing it and the game may turn into complete garbage but it still has potential. Just got a herd of terriers joining my colony.
Might train them up so I can level up one of my character's Animal skill.
Then either raise up a Yorkshire Terrier Attack Squad or sell them all to a trader but keep one for myself.

I actually want to eventually pave out and install lights at every choke point.
I did that once, it was almost orgasmic to see 50~ tribals die like flies to turrets and my soldiers with OC Defense Rifles and LMG's.

Alternatively you shoot the living shit out of it, rescue it then heal it and hope the animal bond upon healing event triggers.

Given the number of wounds needed to down one it's more than likely that one of those wounds would trigger it.

I tried this the other day, it doesn't really work.

They only tend to get downed from extreme pain. That means a fuck lot of wounds. For some reason if you treat at most 5, they stop feeling as much pain, get back up, and proceed bleed to death whilst it's impossible to doctor them.

I tried attacking them again, but the cycle would repeat. Bearing in mind the only way to down them in the first place necessitates about 400% per day bleeding, they died pretty quickly. I tried giving them drugs, nope.

Only thing I didn't try was luciferium, maybe it would stop them dying but I'm not sure.
