You should be able to handed that. Maybe pull back your units when they start overwhelming you and letting the turrets tank/distract them.

Putting your units in the sandbag area to the right might also work, though the cover is quite a bit tighter.

Settling next to a town pretty much trivializes the game. You can just take a couple days worth of butchered humans/animals, excess food crops, etc, and come back with rare supplies and mountains of silver. Meanwhile attacking a base generates a harder raid, puts you into a map without any defenses, and the only rewards are food, some dead bandits, and a bunch of beds.

The thing that made me hesitate to download it was that most of the traits seems to be improving the mood on average days with the offset being that specific situations can trigger them a lot harder. I generally never had a problem keeping mood up and rarely had someone have a fallout (apart from pyromaniacs because they get triggered randomly regardless of mood, reee).

Hospitality can be incorporated into the base game once they prevent travellers from coming until you build a guestroom and reduce the amount of relationship points gained (and lost). Getting -20 for each fucking visiting caravan early game is bullshit, it made all my faction relationships neutral and one almost hostile.

That's funny because I got a lot of feedback on it like this:

Heh, i can see people thinking that, Prude's getting a bigger moodloss for tattered clothes, Gourmets unhappy having to eat simple meals and pemmican, Insomniac having the "tired" moodless almost permanently, Unstable is Feeling Bad 2: Electric Boogaloo, Bleeding Heart's basically amplifying the mood so it can tank easily as well, Codependent's depressed until they get a lover etc.
Photosensitive can be somewhat difficult to manage, though you could win RNG lottery if you roll it together with Nightowl. Lecher can also mean a lot of trouble for the other colonists.

Not saying it's horrible, most of them sound like they are on the same level as vanilla traits and can be managable lategame when you have a large facility with lots of specialized pawns, but early game they can be really difficult to handle.

I just make em' in packs of 2x3 isolation cells. Large communal prisons are a pain in the ass to deal with because you have to worry about mass riots and prison breaks. Having a tiny cell doesn't bother them much and I think it's actually better in terms of debuffs than a shared barrack. So long as the cell is at an acceptable temperature, has a bed and a light source I don't think your prisoners will particularly give a fuck.

Apparello is good if you want more clothes and hair, DTC weapons are good if you want tiered weapons that are actually balanced well and fit with the game, Vegetable garden is great if you want more options with farming and cooking as well as a few other nice things. I don't think it does. List in OP should be just mods that expand options of Vanilla but doesn't tread on it brutally. EPOE and Edb prep are just the purest of them all. There's a bunch of smaller tweaks as well like vein mine, allow all tool etc. but these are very minor.

That said I totally agree that DickWolves as well as other creations, tweaks and mods made by anons in thread should get their own list in OP. If it'll run too long we'll just do whatever every other general thread does and start packing it into pastebin.

Course, you'd have to be actually fucking good with the longbow and it'd be a lot slower, but hitting someone that far away with a pistol is hard. Yeah that part is not complete. I didn't have a backdoor at first, but only having one exit made hunting for meat too difficult. The entire base will at some point be inside a huge slate wall. It just takes a long time to do that.

In my experiences, you actually get far more cargo pods than anything else. Randy fucking loves giving you cargo pods. It's amusing trying to very quickly scramble together food, shelter and a weapon on day 1. You also learn to be afraid of the wildlife, you have no medicine and generally just a bow or a club.

Another tropical run had similiar situation where one of them got sick and then right after that another.

The idea that turning raw potatoes into cooked potatoes is some huge step in food production that it requires a full-time cook in a colony of 4 people infuriates me, and is a microcosm of everything wrong with the game.

Cooking skill doesn't bother me, it's the fact that meals have to be prepared in advance and, generally, a single colonist cooks for everyone. IRL I take my ingredients out when I want a meal and whip one up because I'm not a spastic. Everyone does this individually, there is no single cook.

"Cooking" shouldn't even be a fucking profession. Colonists should just take raw ingredients to a stove and work on them for a second then go to a table and eat them.

Time ingame travels far too quickly for that, you'd have to install multiple cooking stations with how long it takes some people to whip up a simple meal. Especially if you had 5+ hungry people. Much easier to have a makeshift canteen, or 1 person cooking for all. Simply more time efficient.

I don't think the light level actually has as much of an effect as people think it does, especially not a 50% penalty. I'm sure 100% brightness helps surgery, but I'm pretty sure if it's "lit" and not "dark" it SHOULD be fine. At least it was before Tynan broke surgery. This game is flawed to the core and have no future. Let me tell you why:

-It's 2D. Not 3D, not 2.5D, not even isometric. Now I understand that a lot of similar games went 3D and they all look like absolute shit with ugly minecraft like blocks and very confusing navigation between levels. These games don't need infinite amount of depth or height, but they need a few levels of them in both directions. Heck, a simple sideways tilt would be enough, so you can look at your buildings from a perspective. But no, you have to constantly look at a 90° fixed angle from the top. No perspective of height or depth or anything. Even fucking Prison Architect has a better feel of buildings and environment.

-It uses squares instead of hexes. Just think about all the restrictions you have with squares and all the possibilities hexes would make. Currently every colony has the same kind of block shape, no sexy diagonals and round tables, only awkwardly ending blocks. It would make the game 300% times better with minimal effort. The world map switched to hexes and looks a million times better. The base game should switch too, the dev has no excuse. In this day and age squares are an outdated concept.

-Time dilation is completely out of balance on several levels. The length of a day has been increased multiple times but it's not a solution to the core problem. You are always in a hurry but there is so much to do that nothing ever gets done. Mundane tasks take too much time, pawns walk through half the map so they can mine a single block of wall before running back home. Until the very end game, when you have more than a dozen colonists there is very little actual work being done. And all the raids and stupid events just hamper you in making any progress.Then after you finally finish your infrastructure, there is nothing left to do. Game lags out and becomes unplayable because pawns have nothing to do and are trying to find a job in every tick when there is none, causing huge slowdowns.
Some kind of proper diplomacy and planetary conquest goals would make the game more engaging in long term. The ability to travel and create multiple bases on the same planet is a good step toward this, but needs to be fleshed out with borders and economy.

There are several smaller issues with the game, but those don't need the complete re-thought of the base concept.

They way Rimworld works right now would make z-levels pretty much impossible. It's strictly top down with no sense for perspective and the only way to add different layers would force the player to switch to one layer at a time, like DF.

Besides, you can already make bunkers and deep mining can be done via deep drilling. What could've been a good point is that you could explore a whole new map underground, with stuff like the ancient danger chambers around every corner.

cover so my colonists can lean out from behind them, stone wall sections don't waste precious metal and don't impede movement unlike sandbags so I can put them everywhere and have flexibility in defense
they're also in darkness because I put a roof over them, when I get time I will put sandbags or even stone chunks in some areas but I'm always busy
the inner defense is around 15-20 squares from the outer wall, when/if that's breached I move every colonist I can with a ranged weapon (no matter how shitty) on the line and have them spray down the area

That's why when using pillars+darkness like that, you make relatively few pillars with walls on the outside shaped to funnel enemies into (long!) range of all of them (so his outer wall is too close). Dumping stockpiles/sandbags/water to slow them down are also good. But against anything ranged, just the bunker is great. You can straight up beat centipedes nearly uninjured with the cover+darkness bonus.

There's a few ways to prepare for that event. Your best bet is to hollow out other areas to give them enough options to spawn so that they don't spawn in your bedrooms.

Mountain bases need a bit more planning than open area bases but on the plus side most raids can't do anything to you.

Drugs are really strong right now, just not for casual use, but if you have a pawn that has intense pain, give him some go-juice. If someone is on the verge of breaking, give him drugs that make him happy.

They're a temporary solution until you can fix the larger problems. Otherwise you might as well give your pawn a constant 20 mood boost all the time.

No, both extremes are stupid. My idea is to just make it slower. The system's already in place to properly show addiction - first the drugs work great, then they slowly start losing effectiveness, causing the colonists to need more and more and more over time, until you've eventually got people taking smoke breaks every 20 minutes and spending most of the day shitfaced. THEN, if they keep going like this for a while, they get cancer. The whole process should take maybe 5-6 years, maybe a decade. Make it so the alcoholism and constant smoking are the massive downside, not fucking cancer.

I'm not saying it'll take 10 years for it to kick in, just that it's a slower, more gradual process. Works fine for a couple of seasons, then it gradually starts being less and less effective. Within a year, there's already an addiction. From that point on, colonists become progressively more useless. Within 5 years, they're practically dead weight, then they get cancer and die. Like I said, make it a GRADUAL process, not drinking a beer and dying of liver failure, not shooting heroin for a decade with no ill effect. Graaaaaaaduuuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaaal.

Also, it takes 5 years to get awefully powerful if you're trying to get that powerful. I don't find powergaming fun. At least not in singleplayer games.

Our best constructor Sanna couldn't repair the door fast enough for this thing's powerful swipes, and jumps out of the way as it smashes its face through with a mighty roar. That doesn't bode well for whichever one of these redshirts the cat decides to attack next. It's been swarmed by zombies already and is only at 10% pain. The colony big guy dashed back and grabbed his plasma rifle. We have to conserve the rare ammo, but we can't rely on swords to take this thing down.

The guy who made the tranq gun made it stupid and OP and it was just a recolored survival rifle if I remember correctly. The tazer was from someone else, it's useless as a melee weapon. The colonist wont be able to attack any melee enemies because of how slow it is, so you need to have one person distract the raider so the other colonist can taze him.
