So tried waithax last night and safehax gave an error message.

Alright I just had my n3ds brick.(error when booting with or without SD) Remember before starting to enable wifi and have an internet connection before downgrading. Trying to use a game to get back to a version that allows wifi is what killed it. Now I have to decide whether to sell the games or find a cheep 2ds. Downgraded then got CFW. Feels amazing.

I just got CFW and finished up everything. I had a 64gb SD card that was only formatted as 32gb for various reasons. I did a backup of it once I finished installing CFW, formatted the card as 64gb and copied everything back over.

Now I'm getting an error, "Could not detect a microSD Card. The software on the microSD Card could not be displayed."

Any clues?

When I formatted I could only choose between exfat and NTFS, couldn't select fat32.

The absolute only thing is that you must format your card as FAT32 as counter-intuitive it might seem for a card that size. That's particularly simple to do on GNU/Linux, but there are probably specialized formatters for Windows too.

The downgrade went pretty smoothly, got games queued up on Freeshop right now, but somewhere along the way I lost the ability to access CHMM2. I was able to do it after soundhax but not after completing safehax. Should I just redownload the thing or what?

You can basically run soundhax -> fasthax -> safehax -> run decrypt9 -> ctr transfer to 2.1

To be fair, forgetting about SAFE_FIRM isn't even that hard.
I mean, there were never really reasons to patch SAFE_FIRM back then, after the OTP was locked out. And as time goes by, you just forget about it.
Most devs knew about this and kept it "secret" (it was really just an open secret that everybody in the scene knew but deliberately not documented, hence why 3dbrew.org mentions that "everybody" found this exploit).

Delete everything, start again.
Redownload ALL files, wipe your downloads folder.
Also go to folder settings in windows and show file extensions for known file types.
It might be called bin.bin without you seeing the second bin

I installed updated some of my emulators with the stuff from the nightly RetroArch 3ds release and now none of my emulators are working, they crash when I load a ROM
There's also a "Load Core" option at the top of the menu for some reason, I tried looking in retroarch/cores/ with that but it doesn't show any of the .core files that are in there

(O3ds) Trying to change themes, of course woopsied and changed the sysnand theme and was no longer able to boot into homebrew. I googled browser hax, scanned a qr again and made it back to homebrew. Do I need to reinstall menuhax? Aldready took off the custom theme in sysnand.
