As sad as that timeline was (and it was devastating), at least a version of Chloe got to see her father for longer.
I still don't regret for an instant undoing that change.
As much as Chloe misses William, we know she survives those five years and will be fine in the future with Max. Along with all the other support she has.

I don't know. We only got a small glimpse of things and I'm not sure Max liked what she was seeing about her own life in that timeline.
Being friends with people she normally wasn't, flaunting a status she had there, and arguing with her parents. I'm not going to say that she was evil (Like some think) but Max in that timeline was different. I don't think Max was very comfortable with how her life looked in that scenario.
Plus without David being in the position he is in the regular timeline as head of Blackwell Security, Jefferson (And possibly Nathan) would be going unopposed and may never be caught. Perhaps even targeting Max in the future.

As cliche as it sounds, everything happens for a reason. William's death was tragic, but it had a big impact on numerous people and set up events that led to a final result.

That's one of two parts of the game that got me to cry (The other being the wonderfully done scene where Max tells Chloe to stay strong after her dad leaves and Max knows it's for the last time). And that one was only after having played through the full game and re-watching the scene.
It's such a perfect view into Chloe's mind and life at that point and how she was since Max left and since Rachel disappeared.
Lonely. Knowing the truth won't be pretty, but still holding out hope for a good ending.

Even if the result's not what she wanted, the thing that sacred Chloe about Rachel was not knowing the truth. She gets the truth about many things, and even when it's tough to hear, and Max is there to support her.

She'd only been there for a month, had to settle in both socially and academically. Her sheet says she's an intelligent, promising student, but too unassertive and quiet.

She has a scholarship for a top private school for a reason. We see her intelligence in the game, practical and emotional. Now that she's found herself, her place with people, her confidence brought to the surface, she can thrive academically as well. She'll still have her troubles, because part of those are just in her personality, but there's a few classes I could see her excel at. Especially her photography benefits from her emboldened and more involved manner of course, opening new perspectives and opportunities for her, elevating what is already something the faculty valued into new heights.

Plus, she can have study sessions with Chloe (who herself is attending community college), which helps her concentrate, calm down and enjoy studying (and sometimes, it does the opposite. ;)).

Max's biggest problem at Blackwell was not having motivation. She was there for Jefferson's class but everything else she didn't really have an interest in. That and her problems with her confidence held her back from being more ambitious and interested.
As you said, when it comes to something she cares about (Like Chloe or her other friends) she is very intelligent and resourceful.

And the idea of them studying together is cute (Brings >>164488218 to mind) They sit down, put on some music, get some food and drinks, then do what they have to. Then they get to cuddle and relax until they eventually doze off.

Friendly reminder that the only reason Vicky was crying was because didn't kill herself.

Laying blame for the tornado on nature instead of Max ruins the story. That relieves pressure on the heroine. She's no longer responsible for Arcadia Bay. As much as rendering her powerless contradicts the character growth she experienced, it turns her into a more admirable character and builds on the themes of selflessness.

For the Death of the Author fanatics that say the tornado wasn't Max's fault, I recommend replaying the game. Chloe refers to Caulfield as a force of nature. The game references The Butterfly Effect, Chaos Theory and the classic time travel short story A Sound of Thunder. While the creators won't risk alienating their fan base, they intended for Max's meddling with time to be the source of the storm.

It's sad, but without it the final choices means nothing. That's what the game is all about. A final dramatic decision that will kill or save a large number of people.

To those who say Saving Chloe is the human choice, I question your motivation for playing video games. Did you enjoying finding the bottles? Were you immersed in watering the plants? How many times did you rewind to feed the bunny one more time? Storytelling takes us outside ourselves and allows us to live in the lives of humans greater than ourselves. Instead of choosing bacon and eggs instead of pancakes, Max Caulfield chooses between her teenage love and the lives of a small town. She chose between killing many and saving someone after what must have felt like being awake for a hundred years and having her heart ripped out every few minutes trying to keep her alive.

It's obvious people died at the end. At Chloe's funeral, two does, representing Price and Amber, run away. In the Chloe lives ending, three doe poke around the main street amidst the wreckage.

Using the excuse that anyone would chose to save Chloe furthers my point. Most people are selfish and weak, which is what makes Max's choice to sacrifice her best friend turned lover more potent and incredible.

I finished the game on Saturday and feel enthusiastic about something besides pro-wrestling and my own demise for the first time in years. There's much more depth to it than most games. It's my first indie, and an incredible one at that.

Saving another person's life is not weak or selfish you moron. It's a tremendous act of identity and love. And most people are utilitarian cowards scared into guilt and blame, which is what makes Max's choice to stick to what she was and is convinced of more potent and incredible.

One is the ending of accepting and embracing your decisions, the reasons you've made them for and thus yourself, and it is keeping to the fight for what you care about, believe in, and for love. The other is being scared into giving up on it all, ducking down and letting ´the universe have its whim with you. Giving up on yourself and what you believed in and fought for, giving up on love, on humanity.

As a narrative notion, the ending dilemma is clearly that to me. Either Max can overcome the last obstacle that is herself, and the story ends in triumph, or she cannot overcome her doubts and fears, and it ends in surrender, regression, destruction of both Chloe and her, all they've been and become as themselves and together.

I for one won't eat the shit the universe serves and fatalistically lie down and die. All the misery (and Max's tragic involvement in it) is only measure of how much more their bond is; if LiS is not about that bond and its strength to overcome, about how human connection is more significant and important than human tragedy and whims of the cosmos, then it is an inherently pessimistic story.

You can keep your opinion that sacrificing Chloe is the "right" thing, on whatever level, it absolutely is not to me. I only see one outcome that concludes the narrative in a meaningful way.

Ending debate is one of the less interesting things; it's pathetic how people automatically jump to it, and especially the default-mode of so many people not to talk about "their" ending, why they appreciate it, how they do, what they maybe don't, their interpretation, how it relates to the rest of the story, the characters, themselves, and so on, but to instead beat down on the respective other ending, is frankly one of the most annoying and irritating behaviours in the fandom. And it always only shows that the person never had a chance to appreciate the story and its conclusion either which way, from that mindset. It's not a comparison, should not be, because as that it can only lead to meaningless conclusions.

For that, you are a moron. The entire sentiment of "right ending" you entered the threads with is moronic and has me hoping you'll soon lose your enthusiasm for the game.

When enthusiastically entering into a fandom for a game that's concluded more than a year ago and a general that has been going on for two, maybe first take in perspectives and entertain them, and realize that there are established interpretations and opinions, and that it is valid and has a lot of backing and history, not that you are some kind of righteous hero seeing something other people don't - from your argumentation, it is obvious that you don't see a lot that other people do. And your idea that sacrifice Bay is a throwaway ending (and all the more that this would tell us anything about the dev's intention, and even more that their intentions would be at all relevant to the argument) shows that you have no idea about the reality of the game (the sacBay ending was always there, sacChloe was modified very late into the release), and are contentiously close-minded to differing views. For example, the re-use of "Obstacles" in this ending can be taken as the narrative coming full-circle, from it playing in Episode 1 on the cliff to now; the sentiment of the song being that they first had a lot of struggles ahead, and have now overcome those obstacles with and through each other, triumphed as themselves and as what they are together. Through those obstacles and those struggles grown respectively and together. The most meaningful foreshadowing in the game.

For the other ending, they've acquired a song that was not originally on the soundtrack. If anything, that one is an afterthought. Would I use this as an argument against it? No, I do think it has sentimental and cinematic value, can have narrative significance, certainly has personal meaning for plenty people.

It appeared sometime before episode 4 and 5.
The location files for "cemetery" were added. Up until that point the endings were called "On the Road" (Bae ending) or "Hospital". The Hospital one was going to be Max going back and Chloe getting shot, but winding up in a hospital bed. The game ends with her in a coma and Max sitting by her side.
In both cases it leaves room for interpretation and the player to decide what happens next.
Instead they scrapped the Hospital ending and replaced it with sacrifice Chloe ending where she is outright killed.
It was a cheap attempt to force more tragedy into the story and it falls flat when you actually think and evaluate the events throughout the game.

Also the location of the hospital was used when you visit Kate in Episode 4. Originally Kate was not going to be seen again you saved her, but Dontnod saw how much people liked her so they made up the extra scene.
Which begs the question of: If they were paying attention to fan reactions, why didn't they see how many people predicted their ending dilemma and said it would be a bad way to end the game? Why didn't they make sure everything lined up and was consistent so they could try to persuade the player it was the only way?

My thoughts during the game were that the storm was some prophecy that the Prescott family knew about. That signs would start appearing and they would know their time to rule was coming, the storm would wipe out the town and they would buy all the land to have to use. Also using the storm to cover up their crimes, assuming the Prescotts knew what Jefferson was doing and were financing him or ordering him to do that stuff.
When Rachel died she became spirit thanks to the bloodoath/connection to the natives and she saw what was coming with the storm as well as that Chloe was going to die. So she used her new position to give Max (Someone she would have heard about from Chloe) a warning in the form of visions as well as the power to save Chloe and make her happy, a kind of apology from Rachel for not being able to do that herself.

If anything, Spanish Sahara gives more merit to the idea of doing the week all over again. Like you said, Max will only suffer more, she can't escape Chloe and her life will be devoid of meaning without her.
The whole "message" of the ending is that life isn't perfect and you have to accept what it gives you and move on. That applies to people without time-travelling powers that went through insurmountable trauma, torture, heartbreak, and death to protect one person they care so much about, only to let them die at the lowest point of their life.
I absolutely think Max kept the butterfly photo. She ripped it up in Bae in the heat of the moment to prove that she'll never even consider leaving Chloe's side, retaining the photo in Bay would be the only thing keeping Max sane and hopeful.
It's why Max smiled when the butterfly landed on Chloe's coffin, it's her realization that bringing Chloe back via the butterfly photo is a real possibility. If Max acted the same way I played her, she would go back through the photo.

I personally HATE when time travel stories go with this ''Life goes on and you have to cope with it'' bullshit.
It's obviously because the authors are trying to actually talk about dealing with grief and loss and using the time travel as their own sort of "What if" wish fulfillment before circling back to their own conclusion on how to handle their past, but their symbol is working against the point they want to make.

In real life? Yeah, you have to just let the past go and move on, that makes sense. But if you actually have time travel powers then it is completely different, because you CAN change the past, as many times as you want. And of course you can get a better outcome than your initial choices once you have more information on what's going to go down. A time traveller going "Oh well past is in the past I can't interfere" is like somebody in the present lying on the floor and not moving because "Whatever happens is going to happen if I get up I could cause something terrible." A time traveller shouldn't let that shit go anymore, they should be working to make the universe the best they can make it. A more interesting story would focus on the guilt of always being able to save everyone and not having the emotional energy to always go back and care, but that's neither here nor there.

Whenever the time travel stories bring in some apocalyptic disaster for ''magic reasons'' that can only be fixed by giving up the time travel, it's painfully obvious that the writers are trying to find a plot reason to tie it back to their stupid "give up and accept it" grief life lesson. But they shouldn't be, because typical coping with loss rules of thumb go out the window once you have the power to prevent the loss in the first place.

Before Max makes her decision, it was Chloe's idea for her to jump through the photo and let her die, it was her wish that she'd let herself die so she can save her mom and everyone in arcadia bay, accepting her destiny.

Similar to the crippled Chloe choice in EP4, Max could either choose to let Chloe die, or be with her a while longer, even if it hurts Chloe's family (whether it be heavy bills or a flying boat). Either way, it was Chloe's wish to let herself die, with her time with Max as a farewell gift.

The Max in my playthrough chose to kill crippled Chloe on the basis that it was what Chloe wanted and accepted. I don't see how there's no way she would make a similar decision in the ending.

Yep, it was obvious the Bay ending was rushed and changed quickly. The original hospital ending was sad, but gave a reason for Max not using her powers to go back, instead relying on the hope that Chloe would get out of her coma eventually, and that that was the best possible outcome Max got from changing time.

Their destiny was reuniting:Max's existence in the first place,getting those powers and saving her life.

She didn't want to die I mean who would? But she wanted to show if she chooses it she will okay with it.
Chloe's final dialogues were showing her character development;showing she has a mercy and especially was thinking about Max,taking her responsible.
But the major, key point is: Chloe accepted that whatever Max'll choose she will accept it and always will love her/always be with her.

Actually endings' choices and ep4's choices' concept are different from the another.
In Episode 4, her sickness were suffering and she was pretty much ready for giving up from her life because with that psychology she had already given up ,was also scaring of Max will abandon her again so if she is going to die she wanted to end it there while Max was her side.

Actually I find it retarded to accepting her request immediately while she was depressed like that *without trying to convince her about you will always by her side 'til the end* . It was more like ''uh you want to die right now? okay I'm doing it while your parents were inside'' .?

because in episode 4 Chloe was thinking that she was going to die,her system was failing and wanted to die there with Max.If you accept her request (inb4 Me Before You) she will be pleased and confesses her love for you, if you don't accept Max says she will always be with her and Chloe becomes kinda angry.But it's not like she won't understand or she doesn't love you or will always be mad at you.

giving this choice as example for ending choices is pointless because Episode 4's choices weren't completely about 'giving up from Chloe' because Max was about to go back to the original universe,focus on a photo and knowing that she will back to her Chloe again.
