Diplomacy Edition

Previous thread >>164109691

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

Playing N2B9 Fort3Mag3 Jotunheim for the first time and spamming sacred summoning and crossbreeding is a lot of fun.
>>
>>164471037
Crossbreeding is ocassionally useful as jotunheim since you can deploy some fairly cancerous strats that involve filling the battlefield with skeletons (powered by skratti batteries), then casting darkness/foul vapors/grip of winter/quagmire/howl and all that fun stuff, which will likely kill everything on the battlefield that isn't your mage line. No need to waste money on actual troops, in that case, unless you're facing fliers.
>>
>>164471495
what is the best nation for dedication to crossbreeding?
>>
>>164471646
Abysia with summod that gave 100 crossbreeds instead of 10.
>>
>>164471646
Eh, in vanilla probably Jotunheim since it happens to have a lot of N/B mages lying around and a capacity for a decent blood economy. There's better things to spend blood slaves on than crossbreeding, though, unless you really need lots of shitty chaff immediately.

whats a fun strat for a person who is not exactly new to this game but not a genius either?
>>
>>164475464
maenad spawns on panii vary greatly based on turmoil and I think province population is also a factor
at neutral order you're gonna get 1-4 maenads a turn per pan
at positive order you're probably not gonna get any
at 3 turmoil I usually get about 13 and have gotten 20 in the past

unrest doesn't contribute to this but I do notice I get more in high pop provinces than low

maenads are terrible fighters but have excellent morale compared to the majority (and possibly all) non-undead chaff and really only flee at the 75% of units dead mark in battles

there's probably a much better setup to use but this was mine

put a decent amount of money into labs in forest provinces for vaetti hag researchers; they're cheap enough that their pathetic research count isnt an issue and it's 500 gold + 40 per to recruit them

also do lots of death and nature searching; the unique conjuration sacreds are spammable enough to make good use of the B9 bless

>>164475464

Recommend order over turmoil. With foreign recruit out of all your forests, your labrats being rather expensive, and your panii being not sacred you can reliably use every piece of gold a turn on something.

You will quickly reach a point where the amount of maenads you have is just absurd and only useful as siege trash, and that 30% gold swing from O3 to T3 is a huge hit, even with your bomb expansion.

Ok I guess by popular demand we'll use summod.

Now about the map...this has been put forward. Thing is, if anyone intends to be a water nation they're clearly fucked. I do want something more than the rather bland RNG maps though for an RP game. Thoughts?

It looks really unbalanced and apparently historically interacts very poorly with summod leading to hilarity, judging by some previous posts I've gone through. It's not like the game doesn't have an assload of spells already.

Thoughts on how to equip and script a Onyx Oracle Hero(w1/e3/h3 MA Agartha Hero with n9 bless) to fight and either kill/cripple low equipment Harbinger Angels that are raiding into my dominion? I'm concerned with the Angel's 20 Invulnerability will block out most of the Oracle's damage letting the angel retreat before it can be killed.

My initial idea is to use vineshield+fire brand to entangle and aoe swing at it with 5~ Mercuries swinging to peck damage and chew down defence skill. With this set up I'm worried that the angel wouldn't be killed(lots of small damage/nothing that lands a large damaging hit within 1 round) and have the chance to fly off to fight another day when reduced to low hp.
>>

>>
>>164485726
You can just put any magic weapon on the onyx oracle and it'll ignore the invulnerability. Harbingers are magic beings, so you can put an elf bane on the oracle and that gets you a save or die MR check, or a sword of swiftness for more attacks (I'm assuming you're casting quicken self on the oracle so you'll probably have a decent chance of getting through the harbingers defense depending on what items it has). If you just want to cripple it, eyecatchers are good since there's no MR save attached to the eye loss effect.

The RoS changes are my biggest reason for disliking summod.

There's a number of other changes which I think are imbalanced, but I'd probably play summod despite them if not for the RoS nerf.
>>
>>164503632
why are the RoS nerfs bad?
>>
>>164504032
Oh boy, here we go again.

RoS nerfs are bad because they remove a vital tool for dealing with doomstacks from many nations. Many of the nations which lose RoS access are also on the weaker side and didn't need a nerf, especially not one this big.

RoS is obnoxious, but summod nerf doesn't make it any less so, it just makes it available to less nations.

The solution I'd prefer is (expensive) items which cast protection spells at battle start. That way you could cluster your mages around a unit equipped with that item to defend them from RoS. It was suggested, but sum1won decided to go with a path increase on RoS instead.
>>
>>164504032
It removes round 1 RoS access from many weaker nations. For instance, Yomi has issues dealing with mage-balls without it.

In LA, it is a significant nerf to Man, TC, Jomon, Caelum, and Midgard.

>literally the least amount of unit diversity
>literally the least amount of strategy
>literally the most imbalanced of all ages (if you think ea xibalba is retarded, then hold onto your balls nigger because you ain't seen shit)
>literally the worst age by any metric

LA is to EA and MA as CoE4 is to Dominions. AND on top of all of that, it has the HFY garbage lore to boot.

tl;dr LA a shit, and anyone who plays it is mega tarded
>>
>>164504750
TC, Man, and Midgard all have no issues using RoS even after the nerf. Additionally for all that you mention the RoS nerf hitting these nations, it also helps some of them such as Jomon, Caelum, and Man - since they're actually permitted to bring mage support far more safely than before.
>>
>>164504750
>>164504737
I don't understand what you mean, all those nations have access to E2/A1 which means your only one earth boot away from 1st turn defensive RoS strike. Are you saying RoS is the only option for these nations or they they must have easy access to this single spell to be viable nations?

>fish people with magic ice gear
>crazy squid people who drive other races crazy
>monkeys controlled by magical snake people

>>
>>164505637
I'd actually argue that MA is even more imbalanced than LA, with it having a cadre of super potent nations (Ermor, Pangaea, Agartha) and a cadre of uttershit (Oceania, Marignon, Xibalba, and Machaka). Then again LA is the age of Ragha and LA Pythium, so I can see the argument for LA as well.

Nothing in LA is even half as retarded as EA Xibalba though. This is mostly because EA Xib gets bat recruits in an age where most indies can't deal with bat swarms (LA indies are much better at slowing bat hyperexpansion), but the fact that a nation can take a double bless, not recruit any of the sacreds (relying on summons for later) and still have one of the best, if not the best, early game, should put off some huge fucking warning signals.

Eh, even though I'd argue that the nerf was fair, LA Caelum gets E2A1 20% of the time on a StR cap only.
Not exactly super reliable desu.
>>
>>164506392
I just don't see that as a big issue though. The only nation I see being legitimately "hurt" over it is Man but even then Man is just a poorly thought out nation anyway. all those other nations have a variety of tools to deal with big balls of mages though
>>
>>164505717
I didn't give that list of nations, and I definitely don't agree with LA China or Man, but Jomon and Caelum have a pretty rough time of it.

Jomon needs a 1 in 25 random, Caelum needs a 1 in 5 StR cap-only caster (and they desperately need those E2 for other uses). Having only a handful of casters (who may not even be where you need them) is a massive step down from their previous ability to RoS with common rec-anywhere mages.

Midgard also gets hit fairly hard (needs 1 in 16 random for RoS), but they were a strong nation to start with and didn't get hit quite as hard as Jomon or Caelum.
>>
>>164506785
Caelum has unique summons that can supplement the loss of RoS, hell one of their daevas can summon all the Yazads. Meanwhile Jomon is still rough stuff but sum1won has done some work to buff up their early/mid game a little bit, not to mention jomon has access to spells like Acid Storm which are just as effective if not more then RoS
>>
>>164506732
Man still gets plenty of E2 mages they can put boots on, and limiting how easy it is to RoS them back, if anything, is a buff.

>Caelum has unique summons that can supplement the loss of RoS
They have a single spenta who can cast RoS. He's one of 6 summons you can get, he is unique, and each spenta costs 60 pearls. He is not a viable replacement for rec-anywhere RoS casters, even if you disregard the great difficulty of summoning him as LA Caelum.

>Meanwhile Jomon is still rough stuff but sum1won has done some work to buff up their early/mid game a little bit
Here is the full list of jomon changes:

>Ashigaru Armor +1 def, -1 enc (Shinyu, Yomi, slightly Jomon)*
>Samurai Armor +1 def, -1 enc (Jomon, Shinyu … Yomi)*
>Heavy Samurai Armor +1 def, -1 enc (Jomon, Yomi)*

>LA Jomon
>Samurai Cav 10 gold discount
>Mounted Commanders 10 gold discount

Which of these changes helps their major early/mid game problem of getting murdered by xbows?

>jomon has access to spells like Acid Storm which are just as effective if not more then RoS
Acid storm works completely differently from RoS. It needs time to work, and murders your own army of squishy humans at the same time.

You can't have a mage solo cast it against a stack of mages moving onto your land, nor can you buff your army to ignore the damage from it.

I'm starting to get curious about the Autistic RP game and I have a few questions. How is the game supposed to work? Are the players just going to pretend that they are the nations' leaders? you could be a megalomaniac evil god that speaks personally to the courts of other nations or an imperial bureaucracy that writes cordial calculated letters to it's neighbors sent through normal messengers

The nation's description will help´in that ie: Carrion Wood Asphodel would probably have it's god speaking, and speaking in nothing but angry half sentences

But of course, if you are creative, you can pull of many things and still be inside the paramenters of each nation's lore.

Lots of buffs, actually. Everything other than what was already good about Mari got better. Summod makes angels cheaper, so they're now all cost effective for thugging, and buffs the Angel of Vengeance so that it's also actually GOOD for that purpose. Mari also benefits from the gold cost reduction that just about all cavalry got because it often likes using sacred cavalry even when it's inefficient as hell, so that's basically just money in the pocket. The free flag from inquisitors pillaging also allows for some meme strats in smaller games, but even in normal games it can be worth having a sacrificial poor province producing what's effectively sacred freespawn for chaff purposes.

your problem is your looking for another RoS caster, there are ways to haress mage balls: fires from afar, Leprosy, Assassinations, Seeking arrow, etc all things that are readily viable for any nation in LA. Also you ignored all the Buffs jomon got to their monk spells: most importantly the monk spell that casts arrow fend is now a large AoE spell.

Please stop thinking RoS is the end all of all army/mage clearing spells and open your mind to other battlefield Strategies

He isn't saying it's the only answer to mage balls. He's saying that it is a good one (and it still is!) and that some weaker nations lost easy access to it. There aren't many nations left that can cloud trapeze a round 1 RoS caster. This has major strategic implications, and it's a change that he (and I) disagree with.

I like summod overall, personally, but I agree with him that the RoS changes are a big deal and a downside to using the mod.
>>
>>164518848
correction, many nations that can *easily* do. they can still do it but now it's not so easy braindead to do, now you have to put some thought into the matter. Does this mean it's a little harder to kill mage balls? Maybe, but by no means does this make Mage balls some unbeatable machine

Apart from what this guy said
>>164518848
>He's saying that it is a good one (and it still is!) and that some weaker nations lost easy access to it.

None of your choices are a good answer to mage balls, and especially not for Jomon (no native F3, native A3 only via summon, native D1 only via summon).

Seeking Arrow, Fires from Afar, and assassins all target a set number of units rather than hitting every target in the province like RoS does.

The cost to hit 30 mages at once with each of them is insane - Seeking Arrow would be at minimum 120 gems, probably closer to 200 assuming most targets need a second cast to die. Fires from afar would depend on how many troops are with the mages, but would likely have a similar cost. Assuming just a skull talisman per assassin is enough to kill a mage, that's still 150 gems for 30 assassins.

Leprosy is MRN and mages have high MR. With full penetration boosters you'd be lucky to disease 1 in 5.

In all cases, it'd cost less gems to just empower a RoS caster. That's not to say empowering into RoS is reasonable (it isn't), but that your suggested options were even worse than throwing away 40 gems on a single cast of RoS.

Sustain what. Grind your pop down, use the ground down pop slaves to get more pop, grind that down too. Grind everything down until either you win or someone kills you. If you actually run out of pop, guess what, you have been hiding in a corner the entire game and were going to lose anyway due to your timidity.
>>
>>164526692
because dumbass you get reduced slave income below 5k pop which hurts the slave economy, if your population isn't growing then your reducing your maximum slave efficency
>>
>>164526891

>maximum slave efficiency

So what you're saying is, you sit in a corner, never conquer anyone, and then complain when you use up all your above-5k provinces via blood hunting? If you are grinding down pop for blood slaves you should be having enough blood slaves to kill people. And thereby, get more pop, to grind the fuck down. The only time this is an issue is if you're not killing people at the rate you should be killing people, aka, you are losing.
>>
>>164527372
Alternatively, he's Hinnom, and if you don't take growth 3 your provinces' pop grinds down to nothing before you even have enough blood to make the boosters.

>>164524282
Having played them a couple of times outside summod, most of the buffs are to things I didn't find useful.

I like the cheap archers, and the summon cost improvements are handy. Monks are shit and slightly better signs doesn't fix that. Cavalry are overpriced still, red devils might be on par with o-ban now.

It's good that he's trying to improve bad options, but it doesn't make the nation much better overall.

>Especially because they're one of the squishy human mage nations that get shat on by RoS.
In late age almost everyone is squishy humans. I think RoS is overall beneficial for Jomon, because it lets them fight more evenly with large opponents.

Jomon usually doesn't start off very large, and they have a hard time getting larger through wars in earlygame. That means, come lategame, you'll generally be fighting nations who can field more troops and more mages than you.

RoS is a nice equalizing factor - it doesn't matter how many mages your opponent brought if they're all dead.
>>
>>164533180
So you're saying that Jomon went from unplayable shit tier (where they were) to unplayable shit tier.

Sounds about right desu, sum1won has a slight issue of being too conservative at times meaning that the buffs for nations are extremely minor and insufficient. On the other hand, it means he's never overbuffed a nation outside of hilarious bugs.

Have you tried perchance reading the manual my good man? It has many excellent nuggets of information such as that which you are requesting. Here is the description of Stygian Paths from the manual:

"Transports the caster and all troops under his command to a distant province. En route, all troops are attacked by a dmg: 1 AN attack and a dmg: Death MR attack. These represent attacks by the spirits of the underworld. Stealthy units only have a 20% chance of being hit by the death attack. The caster gains no benefit from stealth: he is leading the army."

Seems pretty clear, don't you think?

Opportunity cost my man. Those are points you culd put into ther things that will mae you kill people even faster than an additinal few turns of blood hunting at turn 50.

>Are you the same guy every time? Hint: in games with more than two players and victory conditions beyond "snowball the biggest, fastest", there are objectives to consider apart from spending every last drop of resources on immediate acquisition of new resources.
There aren't actually, /domg/ is just really passive. Unless you play with graphs on and can't bluff everyone out.

This argument is dumb.

Growth is mandatory on everyone because it's by far the best money scale and everyone needs money.

Allowing blood nations to squeeze a few more slaves out of your provinces is, at best, a nice side effect.
>>
>>164507748
I may do it if nobody has stepped up in like a month or so. Not in a good position to take on a new game right now but I like the concept.
>>
>>164561449
Growth is nice but not sure Growth 3 is mandatory.
>>
>>164561449
>everyone needs money
Some need it less than they need other things, such as early expansion. And growth is the best money scale only in the long term if you're using summod, and not at all if you have popkill that overpowers it.

You're right in this case, but "everyone" is too broad of a generalization.
>>

>>
>>164561727
Without summod, growth beats order within 9 turns (of having growth 3 on the province). With summod, it's 14 turns.

After that very early point it's far, far better. After 30 turns, with growth 3 alone (no other scales), you have almost 27% increased income - nearly double order's bonus.

After 60 turns, growth by itself is a 50% income bonus. If you add order 3 on top, it's nearly 75% more than no scales.

If you care about gold at all, growth is mandatory. Even in summod.

>>164561758
>Some need it less than they need other things, such as early expansion.
There is no nation which needs to sacrifice growth to get an good expansion.

>And growth is the best money scale only in the long term if you're using summod
See above, 14 turns is how long it takes growth to beat the second best money scale (and income is very close even during those 14 turns).

>not at all if you have popkill that overpowers it.
Ok, popkill nations are an exception. How about "everyone who cares about gold"?
>>
>>164529070

Even to pull off a flying thronegrab or something, you need enough troops and mages to actually pull off the flying throne grab. If you sit in your initial expansion eating dicks the entire game, not only will your small size mean one of your neighbours likely looks to you as easy pickings (which odds are good you are), you actually won't have enough troops/mages/RP to execute the throne grab.

tl;dr - the amount of extra pop provinces you need to blood hunt huge amounts of slaves is really fucking small and if you aren't getting it you're a super passive player who is going to lose anyway

>>164529301

Growth is probably the most powerful scale, even in summod. I just disagree that it's necessary for blood hunting. If you are xib or mict or something you might ignore growth for a big bless + magic to get ozzies out faster or something, and that's a perfectly reasonable decision.

Advice for all of them, as well as I can give: Except Ulm, Sum1won would give advice there better.

TC: neighbors are Caelum, Agartha, Yomi. You could possibly beeline for any of them with blessed sacreds and kill one of them. You don't need to expand much beyond Asia to win, so the normal TC issue of having no solid recruits outside cap hurts far less. TC can also forge pocket ships, which grant sailing (and sailing is very potent on this map, to say the least).

Fomoria: primary neighbor is TNN, but sailing lets you connect to a shitload of other places. Figuring out your plan for TNN is likely priority number 1, after that Fomoria can attack Yomi without real retaliation, head to the under/overworld to fight bats or sauro, or sail to the nordic countries or Europe.

Machaka: Africa tends to devolve into a 2v1 between C'tis/Berytos/Machaka more often than not - don't be without allies. Either get allies to stop blood isle, or clean up Xibalba/Mictlan mess after they explode on each other.

One of the primary rule of Archaea is if you are a land nation, and if you do not have an amazing sacred (like Vanheim, or TC) you take an awake expander. Things are extremely tight for land nations, despite the size of the map.

Kailasa is in a fun position as long as Ur longbowman stay away, due to being adjacent to Yomi/Lanka, both of whom do not deal well with Heavenly Song at all . . . which is now on all the Gandharvas.

Atlantis more or less has to accept that R'lyeh is going to try and kill them, and plan accordingly. The squids don't exactly have another obvious neighbor in the sea, and Atlantis mr is quite bad . . .

Eh, if I were TC in most cases if expansion were fast enough I'd fuck up Agartha - they don't have bandit archers that can potentially fuck over Wot5e, and hopefully TC will have more of those than Agartha has Olms - so long as the attack happens before Agartha can hit Earth Meld.

Fomoria needs to settle things with TNN one way with another before anything else - those two have never failed to fight. After that Yomi looks an appealing target due to magic weapons on Nemedians and the ability to sail cap to cap.

Yomi is no one's first priority (even Kailasa in most cases would want to focus on Lanka first), but is likely to be the second priority for a lot of nations, especially those seeking to control the throne that starts near Japan.

EA TC just seems weird to me, I'm assuming W9 is the way to go with WotFE, but after bless rush all there mages just seem so shit besides the celestial masters.

have two questions for helpful anons.

>Is the blessing of your god only applied to sacred troops?

>Does your god provide scales even when he's dormant / imprisoned?
>>
>>164580827
Yes and yes.

Your god's scales apply to where your dominions is and it can spread still while your god is imprisoned.
>>
>>164580827

Blessings are only applied to units who are Blessed. The blessed status can be achieved by the following means:

1) Being a prophet. A prophet is always blessed, even outside combat.

2) Wearing Shroud of the Battle Saint, which I believe also lets you be affected outside of combat.

3) Being a Sacred unit or commander who has either been targeted by a Bless spell or who is fighting alongside your Pretender.

And yes, your scales apply even when you're imprisoned, hence why a bless/scales build might well imprison their pretender for extra points.

EA TC is incredibly cap oriented. Summod makes Masters of the Way more likely to be useful, but they're still not reliably good mages

The go-to strat is to take a big bless for your super wushus, spend lots of gems on summons for that bless, and hope to get astral indies so that you can get more out of your cap mages with communions. You do need to stay ahead as TC, though, since you run into scaling issues in spite of their diversity.

So I'm trying out EA Xibalba in SP (with summod) and I'm somehow getting rekt by the AI. I'm way in the lead for income and research and I can raid and dance around them just fine but any time I try to hold against a decent army with high def/prot troops I just get my shit pushed in, talking >10 to 1 killcounts here. I'm spamming bats with clubs, sun bats, beastly bats, kitty bats, and some scorpions for variety as fast as I can and none of them are doing much good, though at least the sacreds aren't doing too poorly despite having no major bless (I focused on scales here for the gold and blood, I probably should have taken an imprisoned pretender to afford a better bless.)
I've started relying on generic summons more but I can't help but feel I'm doing something wrong with my nationals. Note that I'm using very little mage support because it seems risky having them hide behind a token force while 90% of my army is backstabbing the enemy.

>>164587523
you should be useing ozelots, the flying jaguars
>>
>>164587523
Use mages to buff up your kitties. Kitties are your main troops as EA Xib, though usually you do take a bless for them.

Leech is a great spell to kill units directly with your blood mages. Earth Meld / Maws of the Earth / Earthquake are also all quite good because they won't cause friendly fire to your flyers.
>>
>>164587523

Going imprisoned with Xibalba is generally a good idea. Your primary shit fucker into midgame is gonna be Ozelotls, so taking a bless that they can do well with is good. I like B9F4, personally. Leaves you plenty of room for scales.

You will, as a general rule, want to have every province you own searched for every path you have access to. Personally I like the sitesearch rituals, since they're perfectly reliable and twice as fast as manual sitesearching. This is a contentious subject. Your milage may vary.

As for the actual keeping gems on mages bit: As Abysia, Fires in a Jar are good shit.

So does heavenly song give the double attack of quickness, but not the full AP?

I'm seriously considering Kaliasa now I'm just not digging any of the expansion chasis. I feel like you want Astral on the pretender to get access to the summons later on.

Plus a W9 bless seems obvious for them since most of their sacreds have 2 attacks, but then it seems like a waste of points when you consider celestial music.

Speaking of the sacreds, I'm guessing you want to use those summons with the decent protection, and then buff the protection on the others with your mages?

Which makes me feel like they'll have to take Magic 3 because they have things they need in Conjuration, Thaugt, and Alteration. I'm not sure what you'd want to rush research wise.

I"m not sure what you are hoping to accomplish with this not-bats, as this barely effects me....
>>
>>164601486
I actually don't think that it's uttershit, but I can explain why it struggles -
Being terrain dependent means that you can't exploit a significant portion of the map. It's like being a UW nation and lacking the ability to make national units inland. You want to build lots of Camazots. You can't, because they can be built only in caves. When you can't build them, you want to build Ways. Again, your ability to make them is constrained. If you have a nice cave network or a cluster of forests (or both!) then you can actually get a good number of useful mages and troops. Even in that ideal situation, though, the value of additional provinces that you can get is mitigated by the fact that most of them won't let you make more of the stuff you actually want.
>>
>>164602089
He is just flying them around because he can't stand a defeat.
>>
I don't suppose there's a nation with Undead and living side by side like Sceleria but with knights n shiet instead of roman legionnaires?
I wish there was a tool to just make nation sprites easily
>>
>>164604812
There's a Dominions sprite tool, but it's somewhat limited in scope.

Also, LA C'tis and Lanka both have other flavors of livies that reanimate, but no knights in either.
>>
>>164604812
Easiest method I've seen involves copying and pasting, then some recoloring.
I'm a masochist so I make my own sprites and try to make them match the original art style... Which takes about 2-3 hours on average to get the right design down.
Well worth it though when it comes out good.
>>
>>164567657
Loads of mages completely shutting enemy strategies down.
>>
>>164606207
yeah, but see you're actually a practiced/talented artist duder
>>
>>164606751
You can still make some generic knight dudes pretty easy if you just recolor actual sprites with paint.net or something.
>>
>>164606751
Gotta suck at something until you git gud at it.
Just practice cutting up and pasting generic sprites together and try to get something that matches.
I prefer working in layers/steps. So get a base shape or idea down, then start adding on top of it. In the final steps you go back and erase excess parts and clean it up.

Sprites in dominions are pretty small, so it is much easier to work with and learn with. Don't worry to much about being too detailed.
>>
>>164603873
Forests are pretty damn common
>>
>>164573298
The inspector shows tags if you turn on one of the advanced options.

They're not always the tag you need to mod them in, but I've found it's a good start.

>>
>>164609362
If you were to take Pangaea and make them capable of recruiting dryads out of forests and pans out of caves instead of any fort, and left their current forest-recruits as their fort-recruits, it'd be a pretty noticeable net nerf.
>>
Next turn Mari will go AI.

>>
>>164612205
Why not?
>>
>>164611676
Forest recruit is generally not too bad, but the advantage of having cheap recruitment centers is outweighed by the disadvantage of having limited recruitment centers.

You can also get completely fucked over by landing in an area with no forests, though it's rare on well-designed maps.

Cave recruit is terrible. Most maps have very few caves, and some even have no caves at all. It's a massive disadvantage on the vast majority of maps.
>>
>>164612280
My shortcut is set to launch it directly instead of from Steam because I host blitzes sometimes. It also makes it easier to edit tags if you want to run the game in -dd to look up how stuff works. It's just more convenient overall for every time you don't need to run an update when you launch it, which is most of the time.

Any way to avoid friendly archers to kill allied infantry? It's so fucking stupid
>when the friendly archers kill more of your troops then the enemy ones
>>
>>164658226

Higher precision archers help. But there will always be friendly fire, most of the time they will do more damage to the enemy than you.
>>
>>164658226
Make your infantry hold the lines for the first two volleys.

Or put them on the sides.

Or use MAGUS SUPPORTUS to cast anti-arrow spells.

Or you know, don't bring 200 archers and 200 infantry in the same battle.

Der Gotters, R'lyeh won by having conquered 70% of the ocean and casting mass enslave on land. The main opposing player, Sauro, went ai for reasons. Finally Rlyeh spammed Armageddon until everyone cried uncle. Oh and 95% of provinces were forted.

Antiquis Terra, Ulm won by having a highly superior economy and that the teo main opposing nations of Hinnom and Agartha had issues moving armies to fight Ulm. Then Agartha tried to kill both Hinnom and Ulm, Hinnom and Ulm say no sir, Hinnom says "it's k, just hit Ulm", Ulm ate Sauro for free... We all conceded eventually.

Now on to FourthTurning...
>>
>>164658770

This Anon is correct.

Bring 300 archers and 100 infantry instead. You're statistically more likely to hit enemy troops then.

So I just successfully teleported on top of four unforted thrones. I only need to claim 3 to win. I have a H3 priest on each, and each is targeted with an instant fort spell.

Accept the losses as part of war. Even if you populate your armies solely with archers, sometimes they will shoot each other. Or your manticores, or whatever.
>>
>>164661393
Yeah, even the hottest parts of Brazil are comparable to the southern united States.

I'd say that the sahara is definitely h3, though, and it's worth remembering that even h1 locations hit h3 for their hottest month. Which seems about right: The sahara averages 35 C in places.
>>
>>164662631

There are ritual assassination spells, mind you. Not sure if those happen during the ritual phase or the assassination phase.
>>
>>164662510
Adding to this, one thing that did happen just this turn was one of my Flames From the Sky was prevented by Permanent Storm. Surely this can't happen to Wizard's Tower or Three Red Seconds?

I guess Marignon might cast Astral Corruption, which might fuck up the forts?

>>164662745
I Astral Traveled / Stygian Pathed in armies big enough to win even if they happened to move troops in. Except one, which was just a thugged Kohen Gadol. That one was extra, anyway.
>>
>>164662631

Is there anything that happens before magic fort phase? Don't make me open the manual, anon. Also what is this magic fort phase, do magic forts ignore the normal 'random ritual' order.

>>164662510

Spells that kill your H3 through a fort from far away. If I remember when throne-claiming happens correctly. Mind Hunt, Seeking Arrow x Lots, enough Flames From Sky or Murdering Winter, etc.

Most success they saw iirc was running an awake expander+prod 3 for Nemedians (expander being the Boar, with a minor E bless iirc)

That was in the first game, All Yesterdays. Both of the other times they were eaten by TNN, though in Der Gotter that was partially because Lambert was too busy meming on Yomi and Lanka with sailing.
>>
>>164658226
Set your archers to fire at anything except closest. Move your archers far back enough that they won't get hit by enemy troops, but close enough that they can actually shoot without having to move forward.
>>
>>164669465
not far from what I am planning
the boar is really sweet, but I have a gut feeling it is not that effective against elves
in fact, few things seem to work.
skelespam? TNN has plenty priests
air eles? TNN has magic weapons
evos? TNN can easily cast resistances

Maybe it is canon that fomoria is swallowed by thuatas...
>>
>>164668873
If that turns out to be the case...
Senpai, please don't notice me.
>>
>>164669996
Can;'t easily resist T-strike and Shadow blast is still potent even if MR negates
>>
>>164669996

You're not spamming air eles for their toughness, you're spamming them during a storm for stormflying highstats tramplers that if they die you don't care.

Tstrike is kinda bad and can be defeated by troop formations and hold and attack orders, so okay.

You have roughly the same tools as elves except your giants can cast Rain of Stones, which doesn't matter hugely in earlygame. It's almost a pure test of outplaying.
>>
>>164669996
TNN actually tends to be extremely vulnerable to tramplers - ignores glamor, ignores the shield, etc. And a Boar with a lot of earth, summon e-power, and possibly a traded reinvig item can do severe damage because Tuatha aren't exactly the high-mark of killiness.

Its also possible with prod 3 to make a lot more Nemedians than TNN can make Tuatha.
>>
>>164670424
>>164670462
I see,
I am expecting engagement by the end of year 1 at best
considering a nemedian sorc per month, that is rouglhy research level 4 I think
As I have no clue what TNN is going to use (thugs or evos or assassins)
What do you guys think is the safest?
Also considering he doesnt want to diplo

>>
>>164671548
There's a group I play with. We have our own direct connect server and some of us have been playing since Dom 3. The one with three of the unforted thrones was a newer player.
>>
>>164672064

>personal groups

Join genpop. If you have hundreds of demon knights and teleporting support staff and other people have 'air queens' and 'national summons' they are not able to compete with you.
>>
>>164670729
I think scales + awake boar is best for this situation. Helps ensure you get as many dudes out as possible for your early war. Your sacreds kinda suck against elves (low attack density / unimpressive attack stats) so your go-to plan is going to be indy short bows, jav fir-bolgs, and nemedians. Given that TNN has all of these things too, you're going to want to try to get more of them than he has. It may be helpful to get a handful of kings early to grab water provinces and for the mobility that sailing affords to get the chance to outmaneuver him.
>>
>>164673838
I tried a /domg/ game once. The admin pulled the plug on the game once he was getting beaten.

I might try again later, but between having to go through PBEM and not having all the players easily contactable through IRC is somewhat offputting.

>>
>>164675106

>>
>>164675349
It's a steam group, but they're mostly centered around their discord. They're relatively new and their founding members are still figuring out the game, but it's likely to still get you better games than a small group of friends.
>>
>>164674901

>>
>>164675512

The one time I took a look at clockwork hounds it was a small group of friends luring in noobs to beat them up and talk about how great they were.
>>
>>164577081
Ulm neighbors mostly marveni and pan. It is vulnerable to sailing from Fomoria and Vanheim. It also neighbors TNN and Sauro.

If pan gets tied up, they can be vulnerable to an early rush. 100 maidens will easily crack that palisade if the white centaurs are occupied elsewhere. If they aren't, stack archers and earth meld/tangle vines.
>>
>>164675073

Ah. Yeah, if you got a fagmin I can see how that would put you off. Most /domg/ games aren't quite that bad though.

>>
>>164679234
Well he can't use flying shoes since he has no foot slot.

That aside, It Depends on what he's fighting against. That's a decent set of gear if your enemy is casting MRN spells and one type of elemental damage and doesn't use a plethora of crossbows and doesn't have water elementals or other sources of high AP damage and doesn't have thugs with AN gear that can drop on it.

Oh. Well, put a regen ring on him just in case because white centaurs can hurt even a fully geared SC. Frost brand is fine, but stymph wings could be good too for trampling. Frost res is important, and you kinda do need to hope that your guy doesn't get in range of petrify spam before he routes the enemy army because that will paralyze him even if he succeeds in his save and eventually fuck him up right proper.
>>
>>164680203

I'm not actually playing Kailasa, but it's a nation that I've almost never seen perform well, so I'm interested in seeing people talk about how to use them effectively.
>>
>>164692005
Yakshas can into earthquake/petrify spam. Yakshinis can into Foul Vapors/water. Your cheap astral apes (60 fucking gold for S1, work great with magic 3) are great for general communion shenanigans (some yakshas/yakshinis can into S1 for casting communion master). In conj 9 you have summons that open up air (A3, but you can craft rings), deat, and fire for you. You can dump nature gems to summon your cap only mages, which is always good. Kailasa is S-heavy, so you better sitesearch EVERYTHING with at least S3 to get those sweet sites.
>>
>>164692557
As for priorities, it depends on who you're fighting, but I'd say that evo 5 is always a safe bet for cascade spam/EQ. Alt 6 is good because it gives you buffs for thugging your yakshas and petrify spam that can be devastating against thugs/blobs of troops.

>>

>Figure out how to fatigue giants out and then kill them with cheap predators and shit.
What, aside from Frighten, do you use to fatigue them out?

I assume Hinnom is rushing conj for eles
>>
>>164703409
Can you really say Hinnom is rushing anything in comparison to C'tis? Or am I misremembering the efficiency of their research bitches?
>>
>>164703537
Hinnom vs C'tis is actually probably a pretty fair fight, considering how both are pretty much bottom of the barrel nations.

In any 1v1 situation though Hinnom just takes Cold scales to totally neuter C'tis from doing anything ever.
>>
>>164703847
>C'tis
>bottom of the barrel
u wot mammal
>>
>>164703537
efficiency in terms of gold/rp becomes more important later when you have lots of infrastructure. Early game, rp/turn matters more and they're the same on that. Hinnom would just be slightly behind because iirc they don't get palisades whereas C'tis does

the reason that c'tis tends to be ahead on research in larger games is a matter of build prioritization. Hinnom tends to take a thug bless and prod scales whereas C'tis tends to take an awake
>>
>>164704307
Oh, and of course the fact that Hinnom's stuff is all more expensive

Trying to think of nations that are worse, outright (in summod at least)

Hinnom and Pelagia maybe are both around the same tier I'd wager. Not sure on Oceania just yet, cause the changes are still new.
>>
>>164704809
Pelagia's worse. I'd put it at 'worst' atm, actually, since R'lyeh already had an advantage in the war for the seas and it got buffed while Pelagia didn't
>>
>>164704991
I don't consider Rlyeh has an advantage over Pelagia in the UW war front because Pelagia has access to plenty of okay chaff taht can atually kill things and their mages actually have hands. However Rlyeh does have better Amphibious troops compared to Pelagia
>>
>>164704991
Eh, after the minor change to R'lyeh's UW pricing, I'd give the edge to Pelagia on any map except Archaea (where R'lyeh is unusually potent as a factor of their location - they have by FAR the largest expansion area and fewest neighbors).

R'lyeh doesn't exactly *get* an answer to shark tribe tritons turning their frontline into salsa (9 atk/square with berserk is pretty boss), and Pelagia can cast antimagic.

Their biggest issue is their mages are even worse than R'lyeh's for fighting on land, and their troops aren't exactly winning anything on their own up there either.
>>
>>164705731
R'lyeh can actually do this dumb trick where they put individual squares of 1 pawn spaced out across their front line, so those 9 attacks are largely wasted as they kill the one freespawn unit.

They still need a way to kill the tritons, mind, but once they have some magic to do that, r'lyeh does fine

Early game, sure, Pelagia has the edge.
>>
>>164664337
Granted
>>
>>164706079
thing is all the magic rlyeh gets Pelagia gets too. The only thing they really get over them is E1/S1 and D1/S1 cross paths. Also spreading out your pawns like that is a nice way to make em run from morale malus penalites, the spawns are not 50 morale
>>
>>164706329
something still needs to trigger the morale check, is the thing. If your opponent is taking advantage of that with fear or whatever, you can use lobos. It just costs actual money

This isn't a r'lyeh specific strategy or anything. Using solo wolves or soulless or whatever is pretty standard. It's just salient here since r'lyeh often runs into the issue of 'enemy square is killier; your blockers are trash' and has an easy time of setting those squares up.

>>164706869
Indeed, there is plenty to type up the zerkies, I Just don't see how rlyeh can leverage it against pelagia when again they get many of the same paths, the basic tenants of UW warfare: friendly currents, UW elemental spam, anti magic, swam casting, etc can be casted by both sides. Meanwhile pelagia gets all the Nature buffing while Rlyeh has to leverage their E/D communion spells.

It's really a match of skill rather then "This nation has a natural advantage over the other"

The people who played Hinnom and say it's shit include a dude that won with them and two of the winningest players overall.
>>
>>164717656
If you can win with them they're usable.
>>
>>164717514
Hinnom is absolutely not fine. It is a nation that has some very good sides (size 5 high morale tramplers, recruitable thugs, or SC lite, in Melqarts combined with healer)

Beyond that, they are a giant nation (which means their troops lack attack density, which is never good), they have the worst blood hunting of any blood nation by far (having played Abysia and Hinnom, Abysia is VASTLY better at blood, even in the EA). Their research is middling, and their lack of crosspaths causes enormous issues.

Grigori are nice, but any map big enough to reach them on means they won't be enough to win. And Hinnom is no better than any other non-blood nation at lategame blood grinds because Kohen's are the worst blood hunters in the game (that have actual blood pathing mind), reducing you to using vampire lords.

Their forts also cost a whopping 1200 gold in EA, and unlike Ur who shares that trait Hinnom doesn't have foreign rec mages, meaning they have big issues building enough mage centers in the first place.
>>
>>164717445
That R'lyeh player is Gentlemoth this time iirc.

First and Third were MZ2, both times their dominance was halted by Pelagia+Therados.

Second was me, I tried the meme of BEFRIENDING Pelagia . . . it worked.
>>
>>164718409
What happened? Goons used to consider it one of the top tier nations. Not Mictlan level, but damn good.
>>
>>164718691
Was that in dom3? Because giant nations, and SC giant nations, were as a whole vastly better in dom3.

Changes to limb hits, changes to luck, etc, nerfed the crap out of Hinnom.
>>
>>164719148
Early Dom 4 too. Can't remember why but the initial changes and STR stuff weren't enough to bring Hinnom to bottom tier.
>>
>>164719391
I can only imagine they have either been nerfed since then, or it just took people that long to realize they're shit and a crap ton of nations counter them.

It isn't quite as noticed in vanilla either, where there's still many weaker nations who never got a buff - Helheim, Abysia, Ur, Agartha (not from summod, but from cave patch), R'lyeh, Therados, Kailasa - these nations all received some pretty damn major buffs.

Ofc, in nonsummod Hinnom essentially isn't a blood nation in any real capacity, so they got buffed as well, just not as much.
>>
>>164719703
Wait we were talking about Summod the whole time?
>>
>>164719834
Summod was where I played them, so it's what I had experience with. Mind, they're even worse without summod, its just they used to have more friends in the trash bin.
