I don't understand. The game is literally "nostalgia: the game", how can people go out of their way to not only use, but draw for the relics of dumpster tier characters like paplymo, hope (I mean I'm sure he has his fans, but still) and cid raines. Its essentially a single player game, they have nothing to aspire towards; no meta, no competitive play. What drives this madness?

How did your Orbfest go?
I got fuckall for Majors if not for the Roulette. I think I saw around 10 Gigantuars throughout the whole fest, done with the Roulette though.
Took about 8 characters from 50 to 78-80 in preparation for CMs (T, XIV, I) and one from 80 to 99.
XP was pretty disappointing, went from 1 mil gil to 12 though. That's alright.

I really wanted to refresh on this last phase since its my 2nd orbfest & holy orbs are still sorely needed. Dunno if it would be wise, since I want to save up Mythril for relic pulls w/medicas on them. Got all the shit from Roulette, and only left with ~20 characters still under lv. 50. Ramza's buff is really good for mixed teams, but I dislike the mixed team/OK meme. I would rather have a huge buff focusing on my team than a smaller on both ones giving suboptimal results.
Shout is still king of physical attack buffs.

I'm not gonna fuss over D250 for a while. I've went through D200 earlier & have had rank five 4* abilities run out by the very end. With not that much in the way of actual relics & soul breaks right now (especially medica), will have to wait until I could get those things more filled out.

Refreshed on my first fest a few months ago with mythril & not being at max stamina either; it really helped back then. This fest it may be not as needed, which is nice in some ways.

Holy orbs are just a nuisance at the moment due to Saint/Gaia Cross, and possibly Ultra Cure, I dunno. Rank two with the knight skills right now, and after playing for a while it feels like rank three would be comfortable. Unsure on how to handle Ultra Cure (if it will even be a priority for me), but I'll figure it out eventually. The only real way to tell is by getting to fuck around with the ability firsthand.

Is a 5* base character worth pulling for? If you're willing to spend a lot of money on this game, then yes. In any other circumstance, no, she's not worth pulling for. While she's good, the gacha sucks. I'll still be doing 100 pulls for her and then cry here when I don't get her.

She's a good mage, but she's just above Exdeath. Good to have but not worth pursuing because we're going into the chain meta. So if you do a daily pull and obtain her it's cool and if you don't have dual wield on your team she's definitely getting a spot, but if you're going to use tickets just wait for later this month and hope for Orlandeu.

You really don't. It's nice in the story for physical resistant enemies and missions that require you to use some spells.
But in trials and harder boss fights the MP they require each turn is fucking huge. If you want to dual cast meteors with Exdeath you'll be done in just a few turns. So if you can't kill the boss during that time, you'll be popping ethers or using Osmose.
Dark Fina does have MP Regen though so it's a bit easier for her, and she's good a good damage/mp ratio spell that gets stronger everytime you use it.

They're also very good in the Arena considering they're mostly short fights and can AoE with huge damage the whole enemy team.

A mage is definitely a good thing, but they're mostly situational and not strictly needed to clear the content.

And it's a regen right? So you'll pop that when you don't need to heal right now. It's definitely a good thing to have that + her heal for the other two turns for survivability. Also there's her Esunaga so you don't need to have CoD.

But no embolden?ehhh...Also no dispel, which really hurts in boss fights unless you have another unit like Chizuru that can do it.

So I don't know. She has her pros and cons. She's definitely close to Refia's level though.

Dispel can be covered by Carbuncle or Cecil, and Embodeln by 6* Rain or 6* WoL in the future, if you want them to use a turn on that. She's definitely worth considering for a spot in any party.

The True Hero is from XII, and whether or not the game is good depends partially on your own opinions. It has great aesthetics, a great sidequesting system, a cast of mostly interesting and well developed characters and a great plot but the plot pacing and difficulty is awkward if you sidequest much and your enjoyment of the battle system will depend largely on whether or not you enjoy the system itself as although decently implemented it is rather different from previous FFs.

Can anyone give me their honest thoughts on FFXV? Fucking everyone I talk to says something different and I don't know if I should buy it or not.

My best friend, who has always had very similar taste in games (even though I seem to hold a bit of a higher standard than him and I play a lot more too) absolutely hates it. He tells me every single aspect of the game is bad, which I didn't really think could be true, but now that I've looked into it a bit people seem to be really divided about it.

It reminds me a bit of when Dark Souls 2 came out, and tons of people said it was terrible and some people said it was fine and worth a buy.

Finally found some JPBE story spoilers on Reddit, so for those who are interested in what the fuck is going on, bear with me:

The current Veritas of the Dark is a Vision of Raegan that was summoned by Veritas of the Light, formed from her memories of him before he betrayed the Sworn Six.

Sir Raegan was originally Veritas of the Dark, but he betrayed the group a hundred years ago to live as a human with his wife, Sophia. He later reappears disguised in the armor of Veritas of the Ice, who died in the war between Aldore and Hess 700 years ago, working to stop the Sworn Six.

Sakura is the former Veritas of the Bolt and the founder of Mysida. She's working to stop the Sworn Six's plot.

Veritas of the Light is Citra, Sakura's sister. She loved Raegan, and now hates him and her sister for betraying the group. Accidently murders Raegan's waifu when she tried to shoot him with Ultima.

Veritas of the Heavens is the first Cid, who pioneered flight and taught the dwarves to build airships. He's become cold and spiteful due to the loss of his family.

Veritas of the Waters was the first water priestess, and is Nichol's ancestor. She had a kind heart, so she used magic to overwrite her personality with one that was cruel and sadistict, to avoid having to face the horrors of war.

Veritas of the Lands' identity hasn't been revealed yet, but it's implied that he fell in love with Magus Fina after repeatedly facing her in battle during the war 700 years ago. He probably has something to do with her having been sealed in the Earth Crystal.

Veritas of the Flame's identity has also not been revealed yet. He only cares about fighting strong opponents, and he forged the sword Shiden (Purple Lightning), which Raegan gave to Lasswell.

The Sworn Six of Paladia were originally the Sworn Eight of Paladia, soldier loyal to Aldore. They're originally from the world of Paladia. During the war between Aldore and Hess 700 years ago, Aldore grew to fear their power and betrayed them, banishing them to the world of Lapis. Their goal is to destroy the crystals and take revenge against Paladia.

There is another group that will appear later, the Eight Sages of Hess. They're also seeking the destruction of the crystals, but have their own goals. This is a relatively recent development in the last few story updates in Falm.

The known members of the Eight Sages are Magus Fina, Dark Elf, Sol, and Behemoth K. Very little is known about them so far.

Getting abilities very late game, I guess. The grinding isn't the problem, it is the usefulness of the ability. Sometimes it'll be overpowered things (which is a valid reason to keep it late game), other times it is outperformed by "lesser" abilities at that point in the game. Refia will be outclassed soon enough that you can pass her Dualcast over to Cecil when she's done with it. Cecil's only trick with it is double Curaja anyway, which is mostly unnecessary when dualcast lets Refia Curaja every turn anyway. It won't see use on any turn Cecil needs to Focus/Provoke/item

A way to bring in FFTA/change arena?

I know many people do not regard FF Tactics Advance very highly, but I thought it was a very ... interesting mechanic that they introduced with the judge system.

I was thinking, instead of flat-out banning skills every week in the arena, post the ban every week, but make skills still usable.

When/if they're used in battle, a judge descends upon the rule breaker, Red Cards, and removes them from battle.

Unit cannot be used again until bail (make it hurt. something like a SQ or megacrysts?) is paid for infraction, and multiple offences will have the unit banned for the week without bail.

Here are some of the pros and cons that I could think up of.

Pros:

Potential change in strategy (ex. I need to win this battle to get 100 wins, but is it worth having my unit banned for the rest of the week?)
Might make the weekly bans more interactive?
FF TA cameo. No need for their banner pls.
Judges are cool (always liked Gabaranth from FF12)
Cons:
