Elite Dangerous ? Depend if you see it as a released game or still as a game that will improve over time (I heard things like EVA and killing alien are planned)
Myself I didn't & will never buy it because I have no interest in a game that sell the real features as a DLC.
If they do that who know if they won't do it again. Sell it at 60$ if you must but make up your mind!
Yes I only pledged 45 buck on Star Citizen, don't bully

>>164406252
Indeed, I'm not supporting as many as I could but you can expand the golden age of space several subgenre.

>I bet no one here know about "Rogue System".
To describe it in one line : You press buttons for 30 minutes just to start the ship.
http://imagespaceinc.com/rogsys/p/
>"Take On Mars" is Arma3 studio playing Astronaut. (I would recommend it if not for that one unrealistic shuttle)
>Osiris:New Dawn (it count because it has spacecraft too)
Is to become a survival game in a Starship Trooper way
And I won't digress into non FPS stuff, like strategy game or spaceship design & management.

I remember we contemplated making a thread for all those games that have Spaceship or vehicle to control in first person, but it didn't go further.

the fact that the gravity fields extend a good five feet down into the floor is interesting. kind of gives you a skill check wherein if you don't jump off the edge you fall and pickup downward momentum, rather than continuing forward as you might assume would happen.

I've heard a lot of people fuck up landings, or going through the atmosphere forcefields, but I've never had a problem even at max speed.

Just have to flare it, like you have a parachute. Don't be going straight down into the floor, be going at speed parallel to the ground and ta da you just end up going from 0G to running

Ironically Gamestar, one of the better German gaming magazines that's usually pretty supportive of SC and also made a video shitting on LOD, published an article titled "Star Citizen has a cheater problem" today.

>>164418386
Which magazine is that? That's just poor journalism, not even writing the correct name of the game. Then again, video game journalism is babby journalism. I'd be happy if everyone just stopped consuming games media.
>>
>>164417893
Not even a tinfoil fag, but it does appear that the media doesn't like us. Calling the most successful crowdfunding project in history a huge scam is easy clicks. Not to say we have no issues, because we do, but the obvious detractors never stop to see how far we've come.

My understanding is that if you can manage power at a basic level, the Vulture is oe of the best ships in the game.

I kinda like the maneuverability of the FAS though. No reason I can't go Vulture, outfit it, and then just move on from there.

Maybe they want foot combat to feel awful to make you dread getting boarded in the final game. No one but the boarding parties themselves are gonna be ready for combat anyway. In this way a ship-boarding metagame is still sustained despite that imbalance: invaders will instead be racing against a self-destruct activation since everyone onboard would rather just fucking die than do FPS shit.

So back in the early days of this general and of this game. I had been posting strawpolls where people could vote for the ship they would be "maining." It was more for simple curiosity than having any tangible benefit.

Today, while clearing out some old files on a back-up drive I found some of the old links. I figured I'd share in case anyone could get a kick out of it.

This is a stawpoll from Oct '13: http://strawpoll.me/147774/r

And in Dec '13 I was starting this because it was cool to have graphs: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18FuGxWQW2BV2CwSATOvOnAcLeLgVJ4dNLhp0sEtKhik/edit#gid=4

so, with that blog outta the way. Would folks be interested in seeing a redux of something similar?

It'd be a bit different now because there are more ship options than stawpoll will allow choices, but I'm sure I can work it out. Feel free to tell me to piss off if my /scg/ is dead and gone and you have no desire to return to "the missile meta."

>How can you actually ever expect them to deliver the product as advertised or even anywhere close?
Not the anon you replied to.
We can expect what we'll get from them from their constant progress updates, as evidence to their work. If they say "We'll have multicrew ships with physics grids" then we will have to see evidence of that, which they have produced. If they say that they'll have damage model updates, then we'll need to see evidence of that.

If they say that they'll have useable planets, moons, asteroids, and multiple star systems, then they will need to produce evidence. It's the same for all things they do. So far they've done an ok job on that end. I'm not trying to say that the guy in that video is 100% correct, since that is a little bit shady on CIG's end, but it is true - and I've seen it myself - that some people that are into SC are extraordinarily entitled and don't seem to understand that CIG doesn't cater to them individually, especially the ones who put thousands into the money pool. If CIG needs to accrue a large sum of money to bring them through 2, 3, or 4 more years of full on development, than the cash deals are expected since new backers would want to get in on those things as well.

>AI upgrade - NPCs are somewhat less retarded in combat
>Module storage - a pretty good QoL upgrade
>Ship transfer - you can pay money to transfer a ship from anywhere to your current location, would be good except the dads ruined it by asking for a timer to be added, and wouldn't you know it, FD listened, so now you have to wait like an hour or more before you can get your ship
>Ship-launched fighters - a novelty item, kinda fun for pve but that's it

Eventually, you are supposed to be able to get out of the ship and walk around. I don't personally think this will add anything significant since it probably won't be integral to gameplay and, like most single aspects, can be totally skipped if you prefer.

I'm gonna have serious trouble not buying back my bomber again when I get my next credit buyback token. I keep melting it during anniversary sales because its poorly designed but keep buying it back later on because its so damned sexy. I really hope they let up swap out turrets with completely different ship systems on some sort of pylon or turret socket mount. I still think that giving the pilot a couple missiles pylons and letting us mix and match the turret slots with like jammers and a couple fixed guns would fix 80% of the tali's issues.

IMO:
-keep turret 1 becasue it's the only well placed turret on the ship.
-replace turret 2 with a fixed or gimbal mount
-replace turrets 3 and 4 with jamming pods
-keep turret 5 for belly coverage or replace it with like a mine launcher

Crew requirement reduced by 2 or 3, survivability increased, core role remains intact and it hasn't been made into an OP fighter deleting platform.

Like bombers in the real world it does not need lots more firepower to accomplish its goals it needs more purely defensive and evasive systems in place of its questionably effective and difficult to balance turrets.
>>
>>164470738
For me personally, I'd much rather see updates that add things like walking around over things like engineers or powerplay. I actually get quite a bit of fun out of the even the lifeless planetary landings simply because it's more actual gameplay instead of more time in menus.
Likewise, I think the ship launched fighters are honestly one of the best things we've seen added to the game since planetary landings and the SRV.

It took me almost 300 hours to figure out it was a windshield simulator. There is no emergence in ED. On top of the fact that your actions don't mean anything, there are very very few opportunities to encounter other players, and even less reason to cooperate with them.

SC has hundreds of more emergent gameplay opportunities in the current PU than ED has in it's entire galaxy. QoL improvements means your life before sucked.

Yea m8 its has S2s on the turrets for like a year, S3s on the turret would be too much and would star allowing some really silly setups.

The whole idea for me is to make it able to survive and escape without simply making it a hard counter to single seat ships, giving it 10x S3 guns would make it a hard counter, think 10x Pyros.

The only firepower boost I could get behind would be making the turrets Quad S2s, which would increase the per turret firepower but make burst control necessary to preserve power and not burn out the turrets.
>>
>>164472789
Sorry last time I checked they were all size one.
Good thing that changed then.
>>
>>164473146
1 quad turret (your #1 in the diagram) and the rest dual would work well I think. Part of the problem with ships like the Tali is that its supposed to be modular and customizable but they haven't added any components besides weapons so it makes them feel lackluster.
>>
So, for the star citizen ships, are each of the variants actually different ships, or just different loadouts of the same ship treated separately for loadout testing purposes?

For example, in the main game will I buy a Mustang Alpha and a Mustang Delta separately from each other, or will I just buy a Mustang hull and outfit it as I choose?
>>
>>164474124
>>164473146
Quad turret would be awesome!
And it would make the Tali desireable if it was one of the only ships with it.
>>
>>164474338
It depends, 300 and 350R are different because the hull needs to be changed to accomodate those double engines, but the 325A is the normal 300 hull with combat parts.
I think you'd be ok with the Mustang but I've got no clue because it's all vague as fuck.

>>
>>164475735
The way I view it is like this. If you want to spend the bare minimum, get an Aurora package and call it a day. Same thing as starting with a Sidewinder. If you don't mind spending a bit more money, get an Avenger. That's what I have. Has cargo, can dog fight decently. Has a bed. If you actively want to spend more money (which I don't suggest), then you'll have to get opinions from others.
>>
>>164474338
Some variants are just a different loadout on the same basic hull. Others are altered hulls that are similar but not completely interchangeable.

I see >>164474561 & >>164475147 be to it it a bit

For my own example, the freelancer and its variants are all altered hulls and have unique parts/elements that cannot be swapped between them.
>>
Man they should really just make all variants be based on the same hull. Like part of the fun of these kind of games is tweaking the ship.

I guess it's all subject to change.
>>
>>164476812
You can still tweak the ship.

an F7-C and F7-CM can still end up filling the same roles (like AEW / Stealth / ""cargo""), just one chassis trades other things for another seat.
>>
>>164476812
While I agree that most of the differences between hull variants seem so small as not to justify the work, I feel like there are going to be a lot of times where Chris just takes it way too fucking far and we'd better make our peace with that

The Avenger is actually a really great ship, if used correctly. Assuming you will eventually be able to swap out the internal setup with each of the variants anyway.

For any 1v1 encounter, the Warlock variant is hands down the best ship. I don't care what you're flying, I can kill it and survive. If I can swap out the EMP for cargo space or prisoner pods at some point later, it will be the only ship I end up needing... aside from a Carrack.

I'm just responding to the obvious example in that image. Many ships have wheels, avenger series, 300 series I'm pretty sure, plus more. I just dislike the wheeled design on space shps. Yeah, engineers is the p2w aspect. You pay money and you have direct offensive advantages against people without it, direct engine and speed advantages, pretty sure there are defensive advantages too. As for content/mechanics, planetary landings, ship launched fighters, multicrew, player customization are what I was speaking of there. Frontier should have instead went hard on the microtransactions (fairly priced) to make their money. Skins, extra ship customization. Instead they got this weird idea that it'd be smart to just keep away major game mechanics from people without having to pay more money.

Apparently at some point players will be able to host shit on their ships. It's a long ways away, but CR has said that when they get that advanced AI mission shit rolling, this can generate different kinds of jobs and create reputation with different kinds of people.

I doubt it'll be that complex, but hell, we have about 2 - 3+ years until SC as a whole could be considered a true game with the current scope, so we'll have to see. By then we'd be on 5.0 or 6.0 or something.

I understand that you can change the modules out and the Stalker comes with the cells default. If you wanted to change over to cargo, how does that work?

Is the "cargo module" just the lack of other modules?

Does the module you are not using need floor space in the hangar for storage?

they're all the same hull

Titan = empty cargo bay
Stalker = Prisoner pods
Warlock = EMP module

Interesting. I remember a really weird bug with the Mustang Alpha in an old patch where shooting the countermeasure launchers would make an impact sound and visual effect, but then a second or so later an identical projectile impact would occur on the landing pad directly underneath the first, like an invisible projectile was bouncing off the CM launcher, falling under gravity and hitting the floor. 100% repeatable, but I'm not sure it happens now.

I think it's the other way around, joystick pilots are more likely to play AC while everyone else is playing SM, and the way weapon size/dps scales have been fucked up this patch means joystick pilots are actually at less of an advantage than before.

A lot of people are playing SM more than AC right now. Joystick pilots are somewhat more invested in flight so they're more likely to play AC, so that skews the leaderboard stats towards them somewhat.

One could perhaps make an argument based on dirty space, with ships rated for collisions against small objects of space debris.

Perhaps also on structural rigidity and thruster output - imperfect thrusters lead to minor variations in heading, which in turn stress the rigid body that is the ship.

I agree that it should be higher, in a sense at least - I'm not convinced it would make a big difference. It simply means that the battle theatre is scaled up as all ships similarly have an increased maximum speed. Acceleration would still be limited to white out.

Acceleration curves might become more relevant in this case, but it's hard to make an argument that beyond the initial acceleration they wouldn't all be very similar (and pilot limited).

What I'm interested to see is how ship max speed and acceleration are affected by atmospheric conditions. There we should see very significant differences.

Complete tangent - I didn't read the preceding conversation actually, hadn't noticed the weapon speed stuff.

I've never really looked into projectile speeds in SC (and it depends, I suppose, on the type of weapon), how is it currently calculated? For laser weaponry there should be parity across sizes, and for projectile weaponry there should be a force from the driver, which accelerated based on the mass of the ammunition supplied - on top of the inertial velocity (from the ship's frame).
>>
>>164567263
It's a variable. Each weapon has it's own tuning.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11B81QpGLgc2GeFsfLnVQLxGrqIfhKDKW1BiZ44E2HV8/edit#gid=2125521889
>>
>>164567348
That is retarded beyond belief. Low speed laser weaponry is always irritating, but do you mean to tell me that the projectile velocity is independent of launch velocity? Is it treated as a still launch? So the acceleration of the projectile from the ship's inertial frame is a function of ship velocity?

If so I'm miffed.
>>
>>164567570
No, pretty sure that it inherits the velocity of the platform, but even then there is a large difference between S2 and S3 weapons which are by far the most common on combat ships

What people are irritated about is that if you have to mix S2/S3s, you end up only being able to fire one set at a time because of the impact point / lead being so different.

The round inherits the ship's velocity when it gets fired.

Okay, good that it maintains inertial velocity. The speed matching issue is annoying, and I think fundamentally it has to do with coding this as a velocity rather than a force. A mass driver of any sort should impart a force. Consequently what becomes relevant is projectile mass.

If we had a variety of ammunitions that could be launched from the same gun (hull piercing rounds, which were heavier, to light tracer rounds for example), one would be able to speed match based on the ammunition selection - whilst keeping the option open of having unmatched weaponry for multiple purposes.
>>
>>164568509

At the moment its pretty damn great. If you're a fixed weapon / joystick user its one of the best. That said, encounter a good light fighter pilot and you're pretty much done. Can't turn tight enough to deal with them.

Different ammo types was something that was put forward as being likely awhile back. I believe that's why they have implemented this whole separate ammo box from the gun system, in part. Them being different velocities doesn't seem that far-fetched and actually kinda fun.
>>
>>164568845
That would at least solve some problems.

Now we just need to do something about laser weaponry shooting 'slow' lasers...

>>
>>164569219
Wonderful. Well there we go, long term solution for speed matching possibly confirmed.
>>
>>164568561
They're apparently going to do some kind of "physically based damage system" at some point down the line where instead of a slug hitting your ship and doing "fifty physical damage", they're going to calculate an energy level based on mass (projectiles already have mass) and speed and do something with that instead. There's also armour penetration and internal component damage systems to think about as well. Ballistic armour penetration works for body armour in SM, but still needs to be done for AC.

How it should work for energy weapons, I don't know, maybe they'll have a damage fall-off mechanic or something.
>>
>>164568630
>Vanguard
>great
What? It'a a giant slow target that can't move properly when one of the engines falls off. Not only that, but the damn thing is 50% engine hitbox and there's no S4 or 5 gun that has similar projectile speed as the nose guns.
>>
>>164569463
Only applies to ballistics, though.

>>164569512
They scrapped a lot of that.
>>
>>164569558
21 of the top 100 are Vanguard Wardens.

It gets outclassed if you're focused by something light, but if you're playing with friends, don't mind picking your engagements, or in PvE you can get great use out of it.
>>
>>164569219
>hotswap feeds without exiting your ship
So on some ships we'll have to get out of the cockpit and walk to a magazine rack and physically move shit around? (Or have another player do it)
>>
>>164569512
Yeah, that's a natural follow on. It means that there'll be a huge difference between fly-bys peppering the ship with high velocity rounds, and comparatively static high-mass projectile launchers (and planetary defence).

Hopefully not too much has been scrapped.

Regarding energy weaponry it should basically inflict thermal damage - the main point is shield defences and other components may be transparent to a laser tuned in a certain way. We're talking about (probably) a monochromatic shot - meaning that it needs something specific to target. Hull shots with a laser would diffuse and heat the peripheral surface up, but the right laser may be able to go through shields, and perhaps damage specific setups.

It would certainly be interesting to have tunable lasers and tunable shields.

>>164569565
Laser weaponry having these low velocities is stupid. So let's go a bit sci-fi, and say that we have tunable (as above) laser weaponry with an enveloping field, which somehow moderates its velocity. There should be some energy loss due to the enveloping 'finite speed' field (which perhaps exists to prevent excessive dispersion over long distances, some bullshit reason), and we can adjust this field to set the laser projectile's velocity. There will be a optimal velocity based on the laser's frequency, and a drop-off surrounding it (with harmonics on either side). So you would be able to trade laser frequency and projectile speed and nearly match.
>>
>>164569565
Sauce that please because while angle-of-attack calculations are indeed out (they were a dumb idea), much of the remaining physics calculations were talked about fairly recently. I think citizencon, or sooner.
>>
>>164569823
Well yeah not every gun is going to have that functionality.
As long as they don't go full colony wars and make different shots super beneficial I can't see it being a problem.
>>
>>164570073
I'm at work so I can't really go searching.

I was thinking specifically about the angle calculations, thought that along with that they threw out some of the other mechanics.

All up in the air though, for all we know they might bring stuff back with item 2.0
>>
>>164570206
They definitely threw out the angle calculations, and I'm honestly happy they did. It works for a game like World of Tanks, but it's too realistic a feature for SC when you're looking at ships with such varied designs, including front-facing flat surfaces. The Hornet's nose and intakes spring to mind.
>>
>>164570504
The thing with angle deflection is that it can't be considered without reference to shields. A mixture of geometric deflection, armoured sections, and shielding could define the ship's defence - but it would have to be brought in at a fundamental level of design.
>>
>>164571093
Nailed it pretty much. It's so arbitrary given that it needs to come down to literally what materials each part of the ship is made out of and where certain functional components and modules are located that it doesn't make sense and would probably ultimately just unbalance the game
>>
The way I understand the new damage system and Item 2.0 is that all components rather than just some with be made physical, down to avionics and life support.

"Killing" a ship will happen far less than it does now unless you hit critical components like the powerplant or really lay into something. In which case this kind of thing happens

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10TAH5LVCow

as for "damage" itself, its calculated by mass and velocity, which determines if it makes it through shielding, armor, etc.

Pretty sure that armor will cover entire sections of a ship rather than small areas, just to simplify things.

Powerplay is a joke, Empire vs Federation is non existent.
The whole ranking system is a joke too. "King" and "Admiral" is obtained by running message boy delivery missions, rank progression should be more scripted for immersion. Currier missions are fine when you are low ranked but when I'm Post Captain I want to do something worthy of the rank like lead assault vs empire, why not give me an NPC fed wing or something?

The worst part about Elite is that I can shit out complaints like this literally about any part of the game, just name it.

Stop being fucking retards and arguing about different things and realise that while it's perfectly normal to get high framerates in AC and offline modes, the online alpha universe mode (Crusader) has had framerate issues for a long time based on netcode that is getting reworked at a high level by that gafferongames guy and which was scheduled for 3.0 not 2.6 anyway.
The only bit of the netcode that could have possibly helped in 2.6 was the lower-level Network: Bind Culling section from the schedule report, which was likewise pushed back to come with the rest of it in 3.0.
Schedule report history and diffs:

I remember someone did a calc about the Halo Pelican thrusters a while back and concluded that in order to simply hover it would have to exert the same abount of thrust used to launch the Saturn V out of orbit (the primary engine)
>>
>>164602850
It's a reference to "forum dads," people who played the first Elite in the 80s and now lobby on the FD forums to stop anything fun from being added to ED. They hate anything to do with PvP, players interacting, rewarding gameplay mechanics, guilds, really just anything you'd expect from a modern online game. I'm not sure if they're as much of a problem in SC, but they pretty much ruined ED.

>>
>>164602850
Here is my armchair psychoanalysis of The Dad Problemâ„¢, based on my extensive anecdotal observations on a Peloponnesian theoretical rocketry forum.

>dads want to play games, but dads don't want to admit the games they are playing are games
>dads presumably have offspring and """wives""" who ostensibly and erroneously consider the dad to be an adult of the species
>in order to support this fiction, the dad wants to believe the game he's playing is really an important, adult activity more akin to a "simulation"
>this lets the dad fool himself into believing this is not a game designed to let him have fun, but a rigorous trial that proves that, in another life, away from his shitty office job and his mortgage, he could actually have been a space captain, the worst kind of delusion
>however, the dad has no actual stomach for any kind of real challenge, so the best he can do is whine for mechanical skill to be substituted with the only kind of obstacle he has ever faced in reality, the torturous tedious repetitive slog of his own actual life
>>
>>164605413
how did you even get in it?
>>
>>164606434
From the cargo bay. Then I just floated carefully staying on it until it was closed and that was it.
The ship only began spinning like crazy after I sat down on the pilot's chair, before that it was gently drifting off.
>>
>>164604926
How did you enter a spinning constellation?

It's spinning extremely slow?
>>
>>164606575
Yes it was. Then decided to pick up once I sat down on the pilot's chair.
Doesn't matter now, relogged from crusader and the thing wasn't there any more.
>>

There is no better way to get over the tedium of micromanaging people than to come home and micromanage details of a game.

Probably explains why construction workers tend to like Discovery Channel reality shows. They do blue collar work all day, come home and watch blue collar people working their jobs on TV.

What is the point of escaping reality if you are going to do the same thing you do in the meat space anyway?

Just played a round of squadron, seems fairly disgusting so long as you can get behind the enemy, or above them.

Gimballs are semi-useful, but given the strengths of the loadout I too think that using fixed S3s would be stronger.

I've wondered if you could use a TrackIR to control gimbals independent of the flight control, instead of controlling you entire head motion. Basically, where you look on screen is where the gimbals go. Could this work?

What is the secret to rapidly killing someone?

I find that when I'm in a dog fight it's protracted, I hit their shields, vice versa, eventually (often over a minute later) one person dies. (assuming no missiles).

On the other hand, when I'm killed I seem to be hit by some decisive gun fire, and die very rapidly. Without really getting and shield critical etc. notifications.

>>
>>164618536
Other then the fact that they work really well for the very few examples there are like the A-10...RSI even compared the Vanguard to a A-10 at one point with a direct quote of its design requirements, much like russian Su-25 frogfoot is also know as a medium weight fighter of its class.

Both are very well known in the air community for coming home turns to shreds and still fine.

They're not. A-10s do and have been downed by extremely small warhead MANPADs. Aircraft are aircraft, they're all fragile as fuck.

F-15s, F-16s, F-18s.. all have come back with parts shredded or even entire wings missing. A-10 is no more durable.

>>164618840
Stock loadouts are garbage, and he's likely covered his entire ship in the same gun, giving a very low TTK.
>>
>>164619104
damage isn't just measured in whats missing its measured in whats % of loss in function, most ground support craft like the A-10 and Su-25 lose much less function when damage compared to the F15,F16,F18 and not only that, but have increased critical operations protection with heaver armor around the cockpit and control locations of the plane.

small gun fire along the side of a F16 could not only kill the pilot but take out large amounts of its internal workings, small fire to a frogfoot or warthog would only damage the shell and not penetrate the cabin or body.

Just like SC it doesn't take much to disable a sabre or super hornet compared to a vanguard or cutless.

you can use analogies for things far from themself but SC is at its core a flight game and at its core most of it can and is based off aircraft even RSI has said most of there ships are loosely based off a large variety of real life aircraft and flying prototypes.
>>
>>164619902
If you're getting hit by small arms fire you're doing CAS so wrong it physically pains me.

No aircraft, A-10 or Su-25 included, can survive SAM/SPAAG reliably. Its a fucking meme.

Not to pop your bubble SAM and SPAAG makes you seem thick headed as you are trying to say a weapon designed to take down a plane is going to take down a plane no shit Sherlock. CAS aircraft are not meant to eat AA and rockets they are meant to eat SMALL ARMS FIRE you know like from a ballistic gun held by a person not a cannon.

Hell even in SC you can kill anything if you just shoot explosives at it its a topic of general defense and comparison of real life aircraft you autist shoot a mustang with your pistol it will take more damage then shooting a freelancer herp derp shoot a A-10 with a 45 and it would take less damage then a F-18 herp derp comparisons you know what analogies are used for to set a idea?

Some anon was posting space pictures last thread and it got me thinking just how "full" a system could be at its max potential.

Our star system only has about 8 planets, but we have shitloads of moons, tons of dwarf planets, and many enormous asteroids, all of which are capable of having a base of some sort. Or multiple for the larger ones like Callisto, Ganymede, Titan, Europa, maybe Hyperion, etc.

Exploring even our own solar system when all of this shit is ready would be a blast.

I kind of hope CIG don't saturate the systems to an excessive extent. There isn't an infinite number of players to inhabit the verse. What's the fun in building a pirate base on a dwarf planet if there are 100000 others, and nobody will ever find it?

Okay /scg/; tell me about missile sizes.

I'm flying around with 3 APARs on my Gladius and having the time of my goddamn life

However, I have no idea what missiles I should mount on the Gladius and in what sizes. I am aware that CS missiles are currently at an advatage due to no countermeasures, but is it generally better right now to have more or to have bigger?

For reference, those are in fact a fuckton of taskforces on my wings; I thought having more missiles would make up for lacking in ammunition.

Turns out the APAR is more ammo efficient than I thought and S1 missiles don't do much diddly, these ones anyways.

Hey, question for Elite Dangerous bros.
I played about 100 hours about a year ago, maybe more. Haven't played since.

Last week my brother got the game for his VR headset. I'm getting back into it to play with him.

Back when I played, space truck'n was the only great way to make money, and I was told a steady loadout of burst lasers were the best for combat.

What are viable ways to make spacebux now? Is mining still worthless? Is combat an valid option? Should I take jobs or just free-truck commodoties?

Also, Weapons... I'm not very far... I have an Imperial Courier and my tried and true Type-6... are there any magic combinations that are the go-to for weapons?

I'm trying to get back into it... any tips would be appreciated!

Back before I stopped playing a couple months ago the best ways to make dosh was either abusing the exploit of the month or high volume trading. Mining and missions are still horrible ways to make money (the only exceptions are glitched missions at certain stations). Combat is possible but you need at least an anaconda to make decent cash in hazres sites. Assuming you aren't using engineer modified weapons a combination of pulse lasers and multicannons are the way to go, unless you worry about ammo in which case just go pulse lasers. If you want to meet up I can give away a few million if you want.

Yeah, My main issue with the "100 star systems at start" is not really the number of star systems, but the number of fucking landing zones. It appears that out of an average of about 7 planets per star system, there are at least 1 - 2 major landing zones. That's way too many to make in any reasonable amount of time.
>>
>>164651564
Half the star systems aren't going to have planetary landing zones, and even then only lore important locations like cities or unique locations are going to take any time.

No landing zones in Vanduul systems, pre-fab zones in outpost / low pop areas, pre-fab stations in orbit all over the place.

They're not going to be spending a month on each landing zone.
>>
>>164651564
Absolutely no chance in hell they're going to jump from the two or three systems of 4.0 straight into 100 fucking systems.
They'll make jump point mapping more fun by letting players find "new" jumps to systems that only players haven't been to yet. Then they can just gradually release systems until the map fills out.

This again? Yes, the leak had a few skeleton meshes of vanduul ships and some Sq42 dialogue, but that's nothing compared to a city. If anything the leak was just Sq42 stuff. The PU will require a lot more than a few large ships. If CIG made tons of progress on landing zones and other large locations, they'd probably show us since it's evidence of them having made progress on other aspects of the game. It'd keep us interested in what's supposed to be an open development.
>>
>>164653104
With ProcGen they can technically throw together tons of planets around a star and call it a star system. But that doesn't account for the mountains of other content they promised for those star systems, mostly landing zones (which take a long time to make).

Those "assets" you praise were nothing more than concept meshes for the single player aspect of SC. That's minuscule. Those ships can just be copy pasted in the vanduul systems. You can't do the same with landing zones since each is unique.

This isn't me saying that they have absolutely nothing that they haven't shown us yet that's being worked on, but being delusional enough to think that they have 50+ landing zones secretly hidden is ludicrous. Once again, if they showed that off it would only help CIG since we desperately want to see those things.
