do the dogs spawn only around a certain block? if they do, you'll have to place them yourself (one way or another) unless the mod has a retrogen you can enable in its confin

if the dogs randomly spawn in different biomes, you'll have to boot up a map editor and assign different biomes to different parts of your map, or play with the restricted selection the default biomes (so, probably plains) offer.

some tech mods are better or have better functionalities than others
TE now has TUUUBES, BC has its pump and quarry, EIO has its mixable conduits thing, magneticraft and IE have convoyer belts, railcraft has its steam, MFR has some fun/useful stuff, XU has its fun generators...
you will see overlaps, just force yourself to explore many options and don't lock yourself in one tech branch.

I liked the engine changes in 1.11 (the non-null ItemStack design makes them nicer to work with), so I moved to it. I'm designing Charset both as a set of modules for others to reuse and as an eventual centerpiece of a modpack based around it; since I can port any other mods I need for the pack, I see no point on staying on an older version of Minecraft unless the newer version is somehow less stable. (To give an example: I've been porting HungerStrike like that for a while now.)

It's because 1.7.10 lasted two years, whereas previous versions usually lasted six months or so. There IS a major difference in content, though not as major as NotEnoughMods numbers claim - NEM has received less maintenance after CurseForge became A Thing.

Note that 1.4.7 was polarizing in a similar way for a while, mostly because of RedPower 2.

I feel that is true, though I have no hard data. Not that while quantity seems to be dropping, quality doesn't have to go in the same direction. We'll see. I've always been a fan of lighter modpacks, so I don't mind much - and with FoamFix, I can finally play modded Minecraft on my laptop again.

That's not how this whole thing works. Disk caching (which is what you're bringing up) is not related to an application's memory usage, and saving RAM used by the application wastefully means the kernel can reap those savings for its own benefit - otherwise, it would've thought that RAM is necessary.

Ah, I gotcha. The mod you quoted has one, so i wasn't too sure if you meant something else. Said mod is helpertools which is barebones atm but with an overhaul coming soon, there's also botania and better builder wands that should cover that niche for you. There's probably a couple others as well.

No, that's pretty much it.

There's also Runic Dungeons, but they're pretty lame and its default configs can cause dimension ID conflicts with BoP. There's also Recurrent Complex, but it has problems spawning dungeons on complex terrain.

Roguelike is the best because it's so straight forward. Go into the configs and turn down the spawn rate low or off entirely otherwise you might find some nice terrain totally fucked because of an ill-placed dungeon that goes all the way down to bedrock. You can use console commands to spawn dungeons anywhere.

minecraft noob here. i used to play a lot up until beta 1.6 when i dropped the game - not that i didn't like it, but I sort of stopped caring. Anyway, my friends and I are doing a hardcore Let's Play - their idea, not mine, so I'm playing a little bit to get back into it.

My question is, how do you deal with witches? Every other mob feels pretty basic and easy to deal with, Endermen are easy to ignore and a little tricky to fight, but witches just seem incredibly difficult to deal with, from a melee perspective. Her poison drops you to half a heart very quickly, and then she can cross you up with a damaging potion for the kill. It's worse if you're dealing with a compound situation. Obviously the bow outranges her, but if you're pinned down by skeleton fire, what do you do?

One other thing I'd like to know is what uses are there for a redstone repeater? I never found any use for 'em even back in Beta 1.6, but now is as good a time as any to learn, I guess.

For extracting? No. You'll have to find which drawer the items were put in and manually take them out. EnderIO however has an Inventory Panel that allows you to find and extract items from any connected inventory, including Storage Drawers. There's also AE2, an entirely separate mod that does the same thing for it's own storage system.

Some mod, I forget which (TE?), adds bucket recipes for almost every kind of metal. It's only fair, since if you install five different mods, they'll add five different types of copper to the worldgen to meet their own needs, and then end up fighting over the much smaller amount of iron generated by vanilla.

I used an autonomous activator set to round-robin mode holding scaffolds, a CF gun, and sand, connected to a timer which is also connected to a pulse counter which triggers a P:R block breaker every three pulses, with a vacuum hopper nearby to pick up the reinforced stone.

Oh, that platform at the bottom was just for me to stand on at the beginning of the video. The fact that we ended up there again was a surprising coincidence. Consensus: The mod is heavily exploration-based, somehow like Mystcraft's early game where you look for libraries for pages you want. I haven't tried actually playing it, but I could see how annoying it could get if you want an automaton because getting one might burn a hole down your pocket. It is different from AM2 (item-based magic), Witchery (crafting-based magic) and Thaumcraft (both item- and crafting-based magic with other stuff), and it's recommended to add mods that actually make exploring less of a pain in the ass.

Testing VW,

I just jumped from this sandstone pillar onto my moving sand hoverbarge and seemlessly caught the scaffolding and climbed onto the ship. Earlier I had some ships basically die and refuse to move, and I'm still having issues when i quit the world and relog, but so far the moving-about-your-ship aspects are quite nice. I can toggle lamps and open doors.

IE wiring and cables pop off when you register the ship as an entity though.

IE wiring doesn't actually inhabit any chunks. The wiring data is stored in the world-wide level.dat which is what allows the wires to carry power even across unloaded chunks.

They didn't work well with Archi ships, either.

How about block rotation? Do the VW ships need to be parked facing the same direction as when they took off?

OH SHIT! Fucking IE wires and pipes DO work, you just have to apply them to your ship after its an entity! I cam make a fully wired goliath airship with a wiring system throughout the hull leading back to the control tower controls.

So VW uses subworlds, so I guess that data is stored in the subworld coords, rotation however stayed just find when the ship was made an entity. A few lighting bugs, but i can toggle lamps on my ship and they still light up regions of the ship, though the ship IS unaffected by daylight it seems.

As for parking the ship, its a subworld as an entity in the real world, you don't ever park it. you can build on it while its a ship, once its activated you can't unmake it a ship (so far from what I see). You can turn off its physics and it will freeze, but its always a subworld from then on. Hasn't caused any issues for me yet.

And now im dropping tnt out of my bomb-bay and exploding the forest below as I glide just below the clouds (weight calculation of your ship is based on iits makeup blocks "weight" (read blast resistance) so some objects are insanely heavy (like wire connectors I just figured out) due to strange blast resistance values. So thats a bit wierd, but carpet bombing is fully viable, and the arrows i shoot off my barge kill mobs so thats cool.

Just installed MCreator and some other utilities. Looks like creating direction sensitive blocks (logs and pillars) is a pain in the ass.

It works on my machine too, but for some reason not in this new world. Worked fine the last world I did.

The furnace is firing, the essentia has been broken down, it's just not moving up. The regular furnace/alembic has a gold connector going down into it, but the Thaumic Bases furnace (couldn't just call it a Thaumic Furnace?) does not. I've tried using my wand to adjust the connection (like you do for other pipes and buffers), but there's no reaction. Tried rotating the alembic, no reaction. Tried removing the alembic entirely and using an essentia buffer, no reaction.

On top of that, the only Thaumic Bases content I can find on Youtube is done in Russian and after watching 4 of the stupid Slavs videos, I find he didn't even address the Thaumic furnace. Fucking goddamnit.

Forestry is a fun mod, at least in my opinion

Forestry's bees are autistic as fuck, which may or may not bee your thing, but give it a try and don't look at cheat sheets

The trees are also great for aestethic builds, but are a bit of a pain to work with (but fun if it's your thing)

its cooking for blockheads. adds a book which shows you every food item you can make.

also adds an oven, sink, fridge, tool rack, and workbench to act as a 'multiblock' kitchen of sorts. this allows you to craft ANY food item on its workbench if you put any required kitchenware or whatever in the rack.
they do have to touch, so the tool rack has to be above the bench for example, and the fridge has to touch the bench to use it as a source of ingredients.
the fridge makes a fucking cool block though, tell ya hwat.


it's really useful if you have pam's fattycraft.

I think Magneticrafts Oil generator is far more efficient and runs of bc fuel too. I know that the generator runs better with it but was only considering the inmod options.

Yeah, the color palette seems to work right out of the box with them.

I have it in a personal kitchen sink pack with over 150 other mods, and it works perfectly. I know it says it crashes with optifine but I'm using version D6 with it and it has yet to crash with whatever I throw at it.

Worst case scenario, give it a shot yourself and see if it works, but I'd call it stable enough to trust it personally.

Wiki guy here. As you see, I'm working on some of the mod articles, and right now I'm planning to add pictures, particularly a diorama-type one that aims to show what the mod can offer.

Plan is to shove the essentials into a 16x16 space. It can be first-person or third-person view depending on whether the mod does show stuff that cannot be placed in-world.

Pic related is from Mahou. I try to show the Magic Wand, the effect of a Shield spellbook, the only armor set available to players (no recipe on NEI), a tamed Automaton and some aesthetic blocks. It looks rather cluttered, so this might get changed.
