Aw hell, player homes mods isn't my specialty. In all honesty, aslong as a the mod only touches the interior of Proudspire Manor and not the exterior you should, in theory, be fine. I am really sorry I can't be more help with this. The only mods I know that edit Proudspire Manor that conflict with the mods in my guide is Elanora's mod that removes the house and Jokarine's mod that puts a market in that empty space.

The editor is a fucking trainwreck. Papyrus is a trainwreck. The entire engine is held together by prayers and bandages and yet I'm hoping that this Skyrim: Special edition turns out to be them putting their better foot forward when going into TES6.

Ultimately, the lack of competition is going to be the issue. Bethesda has no need to improve itself on this front because Witcher 3 competes with Mass effect or Watchdogs or Dishonored, not Skyrim or Fallout.

And because corporate sees that money is in phone game garbage or 'E-Sports', it'll be a long time coming before we see more RPGs that could even start to push into this iron grip that Bethesda has on the system.

Really, if I'm going to bitch, I'm going to go all out here:

1) SKSE shouldn't be a fucking thing. The engine has proven itself to not be robust enough, and your modders have obviously had to get their shit together to fix your TOOLS before they even started modding. You ever wonder why you have to clean your mods? It's cause the fucking editor is shit. Between this and basic shit that modders wanted (Custom perk trees is a start), the tools have failed their job. See
2) The fucking embarassment that's the engine. A bug filled mess that makes one of the highest downloaded 'Mods' (You know, those things that are optional) a fucking bug fix.
3) The fucking UI is a god damn travesty and has not been made with modding in mind.

And that's just the meta-knowledge outside the game. Lets talk about the actual game itself.

1) Huge, but vastly empty. It doesn't matter that your game is massive if everything is fucking empty. This empty space isn't really 'planned for modders to take advantage of' either, as the modding tools were obviously not the focus here (Compared to say, Neverwinter Nights)
2) Internal game balance is shit. Magicka/Stamina/Health shit needs to be reverted back to stats or have another go at. You know what the optimal build for all classes is? Slamming straight health. Mages don't need magicka because enchantments go to 100%, and stamina is worthless unless you like spriting.

3) Shouting is a neat mechanic hampered by everything from cooldowns to being locked behind two+ walls (Cost in souls, finding them, sometimes story). Dragons are sacks of fucking sacks of HP that fly around for ages unless you get a mod to fix it or have progressed in the story long enough to yell them down.
4) "Story". Not just the main story, but the college of winterhold, the thieves guild, the dark brotherhood, the companions/werewolf guild. Everything seems so shallow and dry when you can see everything in under two hours. Like a shitty movie.
5) Combat itself is a fucking mess. Janky animations, janky controls, janky AI. Dragons (their big focus here) could have easily been some monster hunter shit but bethesda didn't want to put in the work.

God I could go on for another hour but the 'pbbbtttt' noise coming out of this sad sack of potential as I pile more mods onto it makes me sad.

It's not like we can even turn to other studios, either. Everyone has their own little trilogies they're playing in and Asian developers wouldn't even know where to begin on making an engine for the international market, not even to mention them trying to optimize for a computer.

At this point one of the big titans (Bioware, Blizzard, whoever has a fuck ton of money) needs to try to muscle in this territory or else TES6 will be hammerfell: empty desert "See that dune? You can climb it!" or Skyrim 2, followed by Skyrim 2: Special Edition.

What does it do?

Mainly lets you learn new spells without buying/finding books. Also lets you write scrolls. There's also an equally complicated alchemy system, but I haven't messed with it.

It's also compatible with mod-added spells, so that's neat. I just really like the lore/RP aspect behind it, it's really well done, you research known spells and tomes to gather information on different aspects of magic, then write theses on those aspects, and then you can attempt to write a spell from those theses.

There's not a whole lot of games in this genre, sadly. The best I can think of off the top of my head would be Divinity: Original Sin.

Unfortunantly, while it shares many of the same mechanics (pre-generated world with a lot to explore), it loses its' charm after the first play through because there's no randomness to it (Outside of combat and like item drops). Skyrim at least has radiant quests or similar stuff. There was an attempt at modding, but I guess the tools weren't up to snuff or it's just a woefully small game. It's all-top down/turn based, so I don't even think that you can begin comparing it to skyrim.

It's an interesting game, but it's not a skyrim type game. Really only bethesda has done it off of the top of my head with fallout and skyrim. Maybe other games too, but I haven't really had the money to buy any triple A games here recently.

Ultimately, my biggest gripe with Skyrim? It's that all of the problems that Skyrim has, besides maybe the engine, has been solved by other games(Prefab dungeons/loot -> Diablo series), or could have been solved if they had put in more effort into their game(Perk tree).

Combat problems? First person: Chivalry comes to mind, but third person games like Sleeping Dogs, PSO2 (Yeah I said it), Monster hunter, or dark souls would have all been great choices to just straight rip.

Character growth? Like a dozen games have made better perk trees (Nearly any MMO these days) and character creation/growth than what system we got.

Character themselves? No one will be happy with looks, but pushing for 'realism' just seems to eat up resources that could have been spent on better games. As long as the art style is consistent across the actors and world (PSO2, WoW, any anime fucking game which 90% of mods seem to try to turn skyrim into), the game would be fine.

If these are to believed, the bulk of buyers are with console players, which is not where 90% of the mods are. So they decided to chase dollar instead of going for a better game, which means they had to make cuts, and simplified gameplay, which is what we see skyrim as now.

But it's not like we can't see games for computers that have good modding tools. The prime example? Warcraft 3/The Frozen Throne. The reported revenue is 270 million dollars. (http://www.statisticbrain.com/blizzard-entertainment-statistics/) which is about 70 million more than just the PC share of Skyrim's reported revenue.

Mind you, that was also at a time where computer gaming wasn't really a thing outside of niche nerd hobbies. Warcraft 3 was huge, and spawned basically the entire MOBA industry by itself. I don't even know what those numbers account for the small inflation between the two release dates.

But that being said, the console market is simply too big to give up, which means that us as PC players will be dragged down. Bethesda doesn't know how to appease both console players and PC players at the same time, so really we'll just have to make do with whatever games get thrown our way.

If we wanted skyrim to be good, what would need to happen is a complete turnaround from what's going on with the current progression of Bethesda games:

First and foremost, lets look at the direction that the games have been going in. Since fallout is apart of the game line up, we'll be using that as well.

I had a bunch typed up here, but tl;dr, what's happening with games is that they're becoming simplistic in their gameplay and realistic in their art style.

Fallout 4, the newest game in the series, has a very simple character growth system. Skyrim had more options (Sort of), but didn't have a 'stat' system like Fallout does. Fallout: New Vegas had a pretty simple combat system/growth system as well, and as we go further back, we can see the game getting a bit more complicated (When we lost spell crafting, when we lost class selection, hell, when we lost fucking dialogue choices in fallout 4.)

In exchange for simplification of our games, we've been getting more realistic and fancy graphics. I'm sure no one will argue that point there -- Fallout NV to fallout 4 is a big jump in graphics, as is Oblivion potato faces to Skyrims.... potato faces (But they were definitely better).

If the game wants to be good, this trend needs to be reversed. The game has never had a strong combat, so suddenly throwing in dark souls styled combat will jerk audience pretty hard. The same goes for us having 'realisticish >>164290969 characters then going something to like pic related.

So how do we turn this train around? The easiest answer would be a new IP. Fantasy is already taken up by Skyrim. Post-apocalyptic is already taken up by Fallout. So this really leaves: Industrial revolution/victorian era, Modern, Post modern, and sci-fi.

Sci-fi and Post modern (Cyberpunk) would be two good choices. Gun play is easy to copy (Think any 1st/3rd person shooter these days), and there's plenty of good resources for visuals and asthetics. Magic could also be in as well -- Bioware had their 'biotics', Shadowrun the game had straight magic along with their guns, and so on and so forth. With a new IP, we discard the

Bethesda either needs to really squeeze all the talent they have and pour it into combat design (or alternatively fire their current team and hire better talent) or just outsource it to someone with experience of making deep combat systems.

I'm sure studios like Torn Banner, Arkane (even owned by Zenimax) and Warhorse would leap at the opportunity to work on an Elder Scrolls game.

Everyone rags on consoles for bringing down games. You've got a point in the graphics department, but that's about it. I mean, yeah, mouse and keyboard will always reign supreme in and RTS or an FPS, but Dark Souls is downright unplayable with M+KB even on PC.

I'm about to spend a lot of time sucking FromSoft's dick but stay with me.

I think the issue is focus. With every iteration of Elder Scrolls and Fallout they try and reinvent the wheel. When Dark Souls came out the melee combat was Solid AF, but magic/ranged was broken as all hell. But rather than revamp their entire system they iterated upon it. The attributes system is practically the same and I don't think melee combat has changed all that much, but magic has definitely improved. It's no longer a "Press X to win" feature that removes almost all difficulty from the game, it's easier than melee to a degree but the AI deals with it better and it works much nicer than it did in previous games.

Bethesda removed attributes and put in perks, changes the magic system every time.. they basically throw the baby out with the bath water every fucking time, with the exception of their god awful melee combat. It's nothing to do with the platform, it's because they're trying to make the game accessible to a wider audience. I mean you can make the argument that consoles have a lower barrier for entry but then it's just Turtles all the way down.

The combat as it is is fucking garbage. I think they need to leave magic and archery as it is or just rip off archery overhaul and apocalypse magic and really work on making the first person melee not suck dick. And then improve on the other aspects with their next iterations. A decent story would be nice too but I'm not holding my breath on that front.

Well how powerful a gem is seems determined by both the size of the gem and the level of power/intelligence of the soul trapped within it, and that power is used up when the gem is used. My guess would be that the energy of that soul keeps it in the material plane of reality, and when that energy is expended the soul is off to wherever they're bound, be it the soul cairn (for trapped souls), the realm of some god, etc. Most souls just immediately head off to those places, presumably because the magical energy that holds them in reality rapidly dissipates unless channeled or trapped.

After replaying Oblivion, I started a run of Morrowind. Last time I played I only did the main quest, now I'm doing all the factions aside from Morag Tong because I massacred those assholes. I can't get past how one-dimensional all the sidequests are.

Dark soul was great cause combat was (Unless you cheesed it) always threatening, which is what a lot of mods for Skyrim seem to be going towards (Wildcat, Vigor)

Sleeping Dogs wasn't terrible either, but grappling was king. Great use of enviroments though -- You could throw people through nearly everything, like cars or AC units. Also AI issues here, as well, but people would probably frustrated with a smarter AI when the player would get out numbered.

Getting more fantastical, Monster hunter basically lives and dies on it's combat system. For characters, it's very simplistic, but when it comes to the enemies, it can create some very interesting game play.

This is all third person though, I can't think of any good sword/sorcery 1st player combat games. Bioshock comes to mind, but that was more of an FPS. Maybe chivalry games? But that might be too rough for the populace.
