can someone explain what's the deal with unity's positioning? for some reason objects that are set to 0,0,0 end up spawning ten feet below the floor plane (which is set at 0,0,0 itself)
>>
>>164197804
I think that means Unity can't find the matching .cs file on your hard drive, but it thinks theres supposed to be a component of that type on one of your game objects. If you think you have a PlayShip.cs file, make sure the filename matches the class name (so NOT public class playShip)

Let's say I want to hire an artist/musician to produce content for my project.

I've gone through different portfolios and like what I see from a number of different artists, but can't decide which one would be best for me, or I might not be certain a specific choice will produce exactly what I want.

How do I tackle this problem? Just bite the bullet and pick one with my gut? Pay all of them a portion up front and whichever produces the best result gets the full contract? I'm under the impression they won't want to put together a free on-request sample considering the scale of the project.
>>
>>164197980
The origin of the object may be set poorly. Like, the origin of the object is correctly at 0,0,0, but the visual of the object is not because it's offset from its own origin.
>>
So I gave Norm a normal jump when pressing space bar, but if up is held it charges a super jump that launches on release.

Now I find out my keyboard doesn't register up, left and space at the same time so I can't super jump to the left. Oh well, at least the code is fine

Good night /agdg/ thanks for the help and progress

I screwed up posting this incorrectly before and that thread is now overtaken by this one so again;

updated Bokube again, I'd like feedback if possible so here you go
https://conceptiongames.itch.io/bokube-alpha-demo
>>
>>164198208
my bad, but thats still what the problem is, class name needs to match the file name
>>
>>164198029
Jesus christ. Why would someone post that here?
>>
>>164197980
they changed the positioning of spawned objects to something nonsensical in the last engine update so you probably have to reposition them on spawn

I hope so, I've been having a good time with it (apart from the keyboard limitations)

Reposting webm in new thread
Norm now has a chargeable super jump, and can do a slam attack in midair. I'm trying to go for a Hulk Jumping feel
>>
>>164198410
Your script's filename is PlayerControl.cs
Your class in that file _must_ be called PlayerControl and nothing else.
>>
>>164198213
>>164198115
actually this looks like it was the case--i'd moved the objects around to assemble them and forgotten to reset their individual positions to where they were in relation to 0,0,0 rather than were i had assembled them.

thanks for the fast reply.

but its contained inside a file named PlayerControl.cs

It needs to be inside a file named FollowMouse.cs

Godot user here.

Any idea how to get the collision for my KinematicBody to stop clipping through objects when the collision sphere is a smaller radius?

It works fine when the CollisionShape Sphere radius is 0.5 but if I set it to something like 0.05 it goes through the floor sometimes.

I'm also using move(Vector3) to move the player around, should I be using set_translation(Vector3) or something like that instead?

Ah, thank you!

Now the issue is that the mouse has to be touching it for it to work, and it moves slower than the mouse...

AND I'VE fixed it myself! the quad i was using as a background wasn't working for the ray tracer, so i replaced it with a very flat cube and now it's working!

Thanks for the help! I'll keep AGDG updated with progress over the next year. My new years resolution is to actually work on video games instead of dreaming about it. Tyrian is such a unique game, it's a shame there aren't more games like it, yet...

OK, i have character moment, and I have the camera moving along slowly to force the player forward.

I think that'enough to start with. my next task is to bound the mouse inside the visible screen, and then add the side hud in order to give a less horizontal game area. after that, enemies and shooting!

I hope to have a playable concept demo with some gameplay within a month, and i'll try and make monthly builds of the game to keep progress ticking along

It would be a first person platformer with a lot of abstract visuals and the like, you know, the kind of shit you see in those games, but I'd only put the downtime in the trailers and such so that people would have no idea until they played it or it became a big hit in which case it's okay too because I make money

Last progress for this year.

Replaced the old king's field like mechanism for collecting items (pick up, rotate in front of camera, accept/decline) with a new one that is more like Dark Messiah.

I like the kings field one, but this one is just faster and more convenient if there are more items.
Also there is a 3D view for items in the inventory.

Alright let me nitpick

Bunny is cute. World is cute.
Control scheme stuff on the map is a good idea.
Starting effect stuff where you spawn doesn't look that good. Consider a starting hole, or small Bokube house.
Annoying to have to reset the blocks because you pushed a block one square too far. Maybe put in a mechanic so that if a box has nowhere to go when Bokube pushes into it, it switches places with him. I was thinking a pulling mechanic at first, but that would just let you pull boxes through puzzles.
I could roll through walls (see image).
Camera was cancer at first, but then it kinda just snapped into place. Rotated the mouse around and it instantly felt better, that is, the level rotating the same direction as mouse movement.
The direction of the movement changing with the camera felt wrong. I assumed the starting position was 'front' and me looking around is just me looking around. Made me very careful whenever I moved the camera around because I wasn't sure of my direction.
I liked the indicators of damage zones. Oinkers could use more accurate ones.
Consider jumping giving immunity for the duration of the jump, at least against ground guys, felt like I had to be pretty precise to jump over guys.
Progress restarting on dying was really annoying on longer levels. Consider granting checkpoints.
Boxes 'ping' in their goalspot then the light disappears. Made me think I could use the same box in different spots on the pig level. Maybe just have them lit only when a box is in them, or swallow the spikebox.
Camera moved with Bokube on the fourth level, which felt great.
Bokube moves fast, but some spots require a precise stop. Consider revising, maybe hold shift = one square movement.

All in all pretty good.

I'm secretly a CS graduate
But don't tell anybody or /agdg/ will bully me the second I make a mistake

The trick in programming stuff like this is really to keep things nice and modular. So mostly it's a matter of building a proper architecture that stays manageable. That interaction basically has like 4 modules working with it.

You got the regular Character Controller, that takes inputs und sends line casts forward to interact with items.
That interaction, given that it hits an item, messages an inventory controller.
The inventory controller stores the item in the inventory model (which is basically just an Unreal array (which is actually a list from what I can see)).
The item itself has its own little mechanism to fly towards you, which is activated on interaction.
And then you got a notification for the hud somewhere in that code.

Also I really just made a couple of games. I took part in a few LD jams in 2015, mostly just getting familiar with the engines. This year I literally just made one other game in TheBestGamers bubbafest. Other than that I just worked on this project (which kind of was my project for quite a while - mostly on the side though and restarded a couple of times - pic related is from last year, still in unity).

I'm planning on it being a 2D beat-em-up RPG. Since I'm not working on a 3D plane like typical beat-em-ups, it's gonna have more of a bonus on verticality, especially later in the game. The goal of each level is to find that world's sword, which can open a rift forward into the next world.

The light and shadows have tons of errors, such as the bottom left entrance which should be dark. I'm waiting for a first try in the actual game to see if it works or not.
Pic related is the current state. I have the geometry and a way to display the grid. After a few more technical changes I will make a test with colors and textures close to the artwork.

currently working on learning some basic C# in unity to throw things together. I started like, a week ago and am doing rather well so far (made a little rockdodger that expands upon sebastian's tutorial stuff, and am planning to do the same on his twinstick shooter).

for 2017 I plan to try and prototype some of my ideaguy stuff that's been nagging me over the years.

Stage 0: actually start developing the game
Stage 1: a single playable level with the most basic features
Stage 2: a playable demo that shows the key features working with more than functional one level
Stage 3: Alpha, basically the same as stage 2 but with better graphics and small details and a bit of polish.
Stage 4: Beta, The game is basically feature complete, now the levels have to be created
Stage 5: game is mostly complete, this is when I will look to acquire music and any other 3rd party work like voice acting or art if needs be
Stage 6: The game is finished, bug testing, play-testing advertising
Stage 7: release on steam
Stage 8: fix all the problems found with the influx of literally dozens of players who buy the game
Stage 9: update the game after 6 months with an expansion pack with a whole new campaign
Stage 10: realise it made fuck all money and i have to keep working my job
Stage 11: become a transgender and blame toxic masculinity
Stage -1: plan a new game

>What is your new year game dev resolution?

I'm gonna stick to one project, I've gotta stop doubting myself so much.

>What inspires you to make a game? Is it another game you are deeply fond of or something outside of games?

During the late 90s and early 20s I had a low-end PC that could run a few new titles like Diablo 2 but I mostly played old SNES/NES games on an emulator for a while.
When I eventually emerged from my retro bubble I found myself in a gaming community that was, for a lack of a better word, filled with casual shits who wanted to be spoonfed content.

If possible (mind you this would be the highest achievment I could think of) I'd like to remind people what it's like to invest time and effort into a game and feel the accomplishment.

>What is a your recent success, big or small?

I've gotten a little bit better at pixel art but that's about it..
>Favourite drink or food while gamedevving?

>>164221801
its a game engine that is geared towards heavy use with blueprints system (in blender called logic bricks). in addition you can use python for more complex interactions.

the engine is in opengl and does not support PBR,however you can use the common shaders such as blinn and fresnel. the best advantage that it has is obviously fully supporting things made in blender such as your animations and simulations. it can do both in a game engine which is quite cool.
it also has neat features such as automatic stairs detection and gives you lots of options to set your collision.
it is not however just a traditional 3d engine. and it is not meant to be powerful, just your average fuck around engine with potential to make good stuff if you really invest in the documentation.
another downside you can only use static light, it might gives you an option to animate the lightning, comes supported with blendshapes and animated textures, alpha planes and all the stuff you need for the typical game engine

>mp-focused game
>sp element you design your gun and test-fire it from a vise in a range
>from that test-fire it generates a bunch of actually not arbitrary stats for damage, recoil, initial accuracy, etc
>online, so the physics aren't overtaxed, it uses those stats for a generic hitscan* gun

* though never tested, I always figured a "realistic ballistics" shooter could use a hitscan method where it checks at sections of the trace per server frame instead of the whole thing at once

i made bunch of stuff with BGE, first i tried to make a dark ages kind of walking simulator. at the time i used stock textures and it came out okay but there was one interaction that was too complex for the logic bricks to handle.
then i made a typical roll-a-ball game which came out quite nice.
then i made some silly topdown platformer with a mouse just walking and jumping between cubes.
im thinking about seriously studying the engine and make something for 2017, you will be probably hearing from me

A few questions.

What is the easiest program to make a classic Zelda-like with a few added gimmicks? (Think of a mix of SD3 and Minish Cap but with its own gimmicks)

The other is how dark can I go with a story? I am limited to pixel art, and I'm a bit worried after seeing a few discussions that it might come off as too cartoony to make things seem as fucked as they are. Granted I think I can get away with sweeping the dark story under the table by using the banter between the main character and his companion. But is it a stretch?

Officer Hutson of the Canadian Police (British Columbia) here. You know what, you think you're so funny with the whole Source Senpai shit you guys have going on? Yeah, try talk explaining this stuff to my 8 year old wife's son. I know what it's like to be your age. I was there. Smoking pot, getting drunk, and throwing posts on threads cross-board. A real laugh. But one day you are going to wake up in a face full of puke, shit, piss, and seaman like I did and realize that you're just pissing your life away doing what? Nothing.

I came home to my wife bawling and didn't understand why there were naughty pictures of her game as well as completely disfigured and badly compressed images slewn across her favorite websites. Are you dicks proud of yourself? Are you? If I was there right now I'd curb-stomp your faces in, but thankfully the Indiepocalypse should be doing that for me soon enough with all this CRTC stuff they're doing. I just sure hope Harper gets re-elected so we can try to get more control on this internet.

I really hope this will eat you guys up one day when you finally wake up and realize what life is really about. Until then- Fuck you.

P.S. - I saw the "placeholder" shit you guys were trying to pull. That's how I found you guys. I hope you enjoy the one or two sites it got on. Not even Steam Concepts accepted your shit.

Right, the pattern being you saving images that troll you and posting them a trillion times with the same filename to "false flag" whoever posted it first. The pattern being your constant posting about danny or mothdan alongside shitposting like anyone cares about your vendetta. Why not just release it separately? As, y'know, 99% of games do.

As a bonus you can include lengthened/uncut versions of songs, scrapped songs, etc. Or go whole-hog and make a remix companion album, like ZoE2's "Orbital Refrain" and the unimaginatively named "ReMIX EDITION"

Uhhh, but if your game was to ever release, you would only have to export it to a fully encrypted executable. You don't sell games in loose-ass .zips on Steam.
Anyways, I just exported a simple project to .zip in GMS2 and the audio files are all encrypted, there's just the (smaller) .exe and the game's data.win file. Send a screenshot?

Good question. A lot of game OSTs are ripped from game audio and put on Youtube. Even if it's not unencrypted, it's still listenable, which means it can be re-recorded.

The money is made with CDs given as pre-order bonuses (which are generally liked as collectors items and not as a medium for getting the music, since you'd just go to youtube anyway)

What people pay for is stuff like lossless/high-quality/remastered/full versions of songs.

Fuck, you're right. I didn't even consider that. I distribute my game on itch.io though and I prefer zips as I've heard some people have issues with single .exes with gamemaker. Maybe they're just horror stories but I'd like to export it in the most efficient but also enclosed format that I can.
Anyway, this is what I get. I assume that the art, code, etc is split between data.win and the exe (talking out of my ass. I have no idea how GMS compiles), but it's odd that the oggs aren't.

True. It still keeps the average joe from messing with files though. I'm not planning on keeping it super tight, just covered up.

Thanks for the feedback! Your feedback was so good I saved it so I could try to fix things based on it so thanks again.

I'm trying to reproduce how you went through the games invisible walls, how did you do that?

I'm not sure how to go about the games camera. Its closer to captain toad than its ever been and thats how I like it but its 50/50 to as to how people like it seems right now, and I guess thats because you have to understand, and get used to it before you like it really

Which worries me but I hope if I have UI which shows how your controls are being changed when you rotate the camera (I think) that will help VS axing the fully rational system all together.

I also want to change the movement system where you move slowly 1;1 a tile, until you hold L-shift/sprint button that lets you roll normally.

Not him, but an idea I had for the controls is that if the player is using a D-pad, make the camera gravitate towards the cardinal directions. Not snapping, but just enough force that it doesn't like to stay directly in between where the controls become ambiguous.

Don't worry man, GMS2 automatically converts all of the game through an importer translator. Sometimes it fucks the variable names up (like, it would translate "wow" and "mom" to "__a" and "__b"), but everything works perfectly.
Although it's okay to stick to GM:S1, as I too like the UI more. It looks awful but it's legit 2 times faster to use than GMS2's. The latter just looks more professional and fancier, zooms and shit.
But yeah, you don't get that with GMS2 apparently. The only thing to switch to GMS2 for are the gpu options, the new camera system and the improved performance (you get triple the fps on the same project you can run in GM:S1).

What do you mean revered camera controls? I'm looking to fix my camera but if you think the gameplay is boring I'm not sure if I can fix that with you, you may just not like sokoban it seems there.

The mechanics I know need some work are the camera, bokus movement a bit, and resetting of puzzle cubes mainly.

I have an idea how to fix the camera anyway
im not sure how long the levels are to other people because I can beat every single one in like a minute or less
kinda have to play it and tell me because I have no idea
its not that the camera is fully rotationa though being the reason you all seem to hate it;
its that people are pissed apparently because they dont understand when the switching of controls takes place as you rotate the camera?

Basically you can undo everything. It records every moment from the start of your session, even on the overworld, and you can undo and redo every movement. It also records level restarts as "movements," so if you restart a bunch of times and want to go back to see what you were doing on a previous attempt, you can just undo back to that attempt. It helps a lot with working through the logic of a puzzle, especially when a lot of it is trial and error.

Part of why the game works like this is because the controls are sort of wonky and you can make easy mistakes even after you've played 30 hours of the game, but I think it's a pretty cool system. I definitely recommend you play it btw if you are making a sokoban game.

Thanks for that webm I fixed it now. As for the camera, I'd hate to have to constantly recommend to people who gave up playing within the first 2 minutes to dig through the games options to change the camera style I rather use one perfect go to camera that works across the board without much complaints.

I think il try pressing left and right mouse to snap the camera into the 4 sides of a level, but you can still pan the camera up and down with mouse movement just not left and right, that way the controls make much more sense, and you can see pan the camera somewhat.

So, it turns out why the FPS was so bad on your latest source may may was because VirtualDub's default is to set output footage to 13.33333 fps for some reason and I'd recently reinstalled it when I took this capture

here it is just sped up to 24; yes I know the camera is still slow and bad and the movement is still sluggish; I made it snappier but didn't rerecord because it's such a minor change and I'm still not sure what I wanna do with this movement mechanic anyway

Yeah, in this case it's the optimal, but in terms of algorithmical complexity it can get pretty bad, in my case there's 14K+ combinations, I'm skipping most of them but if I were to generate every possible suspect combo that algo would take significant time to complete (computer time obviously). It would be even worse if I had to do it repeatedly throughout the game.

tl;dr: Nested loops are usually an indicator of you bruteforcing things when you should be doing it in a smarter way. But I agree with you, sometimes it's the best option.

I want to to put strategy/management elements in my puzzle game.

What do you think about top-down view with square pieces vs. isometric view? Which one might be more suitable? The puzzle mechanic still works fine in isometric, but the pieces may be slightly less easy to spot and identify? Or not? One problem is that building size shouldn't affect visibility too much. Also I think it may be easier to have acceptable art for top-down view

I was also thinking about hexagons as an option but I haven't implemented those fully, I have to rewrite a lot of things first.

Suppose we're working with Photoshop. I have 2 layers, one for the ink and one for the color. The character I'm drawing is looking in a definite direction.
Instead of directly painting the light sources on the color layer, I just draw the colors flat. I save this one .png of my character looking in x direction.
I then do one highlight layer for the same direction and save it separately.

In the code you have a direction status set for your character and highlight entities.
>if space_marine's direction is "left", draw body_light with (same direction) on top
And viceversa for the right.

>>164246842
OK
It does give a better view of the tiles probably.

I don't know about the specifics of gameplay yet either. Don't know enough about game design to predict what might work, I have to try it.
For example you could clear blocks and then those areas would be available to build/play on. Alternatively you have to change blocks to a certain color to "conquer" them, but you could sell those areas for resources too
>>
>>164247039

>>

but then when its flipped its light source doesn't match everything else in the scene.

Lets say in the scene everything is drawn with a light source coming from the upper right, but the player is looking left so it has a light source coming from the upper left. Wouldn't that look bad?
>>
>>164245161
You're not really skipping as much as you think. I haven't ever used continue before, but doesn't it just drop out of the current for loop? So, if hobby[0] gets picked, then it drops out and goes to the for loop one level up (hair) without checking hobby[1], hobby[2], etc. right? Then this neither avoids duplicates (hobby[1] and hobby[2] both would've been resulted in different suspects) nor does it really avoid many for loop iterations (say each array is size 20, you are doing less than 20^5 iterations but greater than 20^4).
Also, what's the point of the line
>for (int i = 0; i < 2; i++)
Doesn't this make you do the entire for loop twice (which will create duplicates)?

You really should shuffle the enums like the other anon said. You can easily do it without creating duplicates.

Ask any person what "ok" is for their trade and I assure you, it will include that all aspects of what the worker has done have been adequate for the final product to work properly

machinists wouldn't say a gear is ok if it throws a tooth, drivers wouldn't say a trip is ok if it took much longer than expected, cooks wouldn't say a meal was ok if it wasn't enjoyable and served correctly, even retail people don't say a sale is ok if the product wasn't sold at the correct price with the correct taxes applied and paid up onward

"ok" is synonymous with "good enough in all respects" and "good enough in all respects" is an incredibly high standard that all people should achieve and if they dont they should rightfully think of themselves as a failure

I think you have to define what is "optimal" when developing your software. If you can manage to calculate all the stuff required to render a single frame in a fraction of a second on the given hardware, then I guess your code is good. I mean what else would you like to ask for?
>>
>>164248008
Sorry, from your picture, I thought you have assets for both 2D and 3D. Other than that, yeah, I thought that it should be 3D, and the player can freely rotate. This would mean that they would be able to rotate in a way that they end up watch the game from a top down view.

Then you draw two light source layers instead of flipping just one.

>>
>>164248802
The issue is that usually the difference in effort between implementing optimal and suboptimal algorithms is incredibly minor and basically comes down to knowledge of programming rather than obsessive autism. It's possible to overengineer, but when people have a problem with nested loops, inefficient search algorithms, etc, it's not the difference between "having it work now" and "having it work with a massive amount of needless effort".

People act like it's a HUGE FUCKING DEAL to architect things correctly when it's actually a time saver in 90% of cases to give a shit about performance for no more effort, and it usually comes down to them just being defensive about their lack of experience or their unwillingness to learn any way to do things other than the way they already know.

I'm not sure, it seemed kind of plain to me. I mean it's not like anybody is actually gonna play the millionth puzzle game on mobile. From all the mechanics I tried the one that seemed most promising to me was to upgrade blocks to different colors before you can clear them. I noticed that the larger areas that resulted could have some deeper relevance and actually could represent a territory, or the player could decide at which point to clear, or other things

>>164248465
The game probably could be OK as a standalone puzzle game, with some polish. But then what?

>>164249003
Oh, those images are just pulled from Google. By myself i could do basic 2D like those vector buildings, but for something that looks decent in isometric I would need it from somewhere else.
3D is probably feasible in theory, but I suspect too advanced for me. I mean at that point you need 3D models and all the stuff, and the puzzle mechanic would be a minor element compared to the strategy element. But it is an interesting thought

The twingo post was not me.

Here's an example of what you want to do

eyes = [blue, green, brown]
hair = [black, blonde, bald]

both have 3 elements but we need to generate more than 3 combinations, and there's only 9 possible unique combinations,

with for loops you go through each one of those,
if you shuffle, either every 3 suspects generated or every time you generate a new suspect, the chances of two shaing the same attributes (e.g. brown eyes and blonde) are extremely high.
Now my attributes vary between 4 and 7 different options each, to a total ok 14K unique combinations. The amount seems high, but I need to generate a couple thousands so the chances of duplicates are still pretty high.
Your solution would apply if the number of suspects generates was <= the number of elements in the smallest set of attributes, but not in this case.

I think the problem with a topic like this is that people have different ideas of what they want out of something.

Shoddy code is typically a sign of inexperience or poor planning, and your end goal, for your game and yourself, should be to make the best code possible, because once you learn to properly do it that becomes your new default and takes the same amount of time as your shitcode.

At the same time, in the short run you might not care, because you just want the game to work, and learning to do it "properly" will make a 5 hour session take 15, for a .5% speed increase on something that's already instant. You should at the very least keep in mind that you need to improve it next time but it might not be worth it to go back and improve for the return on your time.

I personally have a problem where I tend to make things work prototyping, then keep a lot of that code. Because I didn't plan on a feature past that stage I have to change or improve the code, like for new enemies, and half the time I go back and cringe at the first enemy I made to prototype which doesn't use the new system. At the same time that enemy is really rare and only takes .0001% longer than normal so it has no impact on the game running properly, so if I go back and fix it it's during some downtime when I have nothing better to do or it's a quick change. If other people are on the project I would still change it for clarity.
>>
>>164249615
Seriously, don't overscope yourself for this first game. You have a game ready to go that you can complete using only cheap geometric assets.

As far as mechanics go, you could control one color of the tiles. When you completely enclose an area, if it's next to your color, it turns into that color. Your goal would be to expand that one color territory until some target percentage.

Or just make fucking tetris, try to survive and make matches as long as possible

>>
>>164251362
Randomizing is the same as shuffling, and if you want to keep them unique you have to generate a suspect and then check if there's no one like it in the list of already generated suspects, so you are pretty much doing a bogo sort kind of problem, very inefficient.

>>164251279
I believe my implementation is the most efficient for the use case, it's ugly as fuck though. I could use some tree structures and trim shit down to make the problem complexity logarithmic, but it's not worth the effort for something that takes 0.01 seconds to run and is only needed once at the start of the game.

>>164251517
See >>164249883 and you'll understand why shuffling/randomizing won't work.
>>
>>164251279
something like...

hair = hairs[dice.Next(0,hairs.length];

>>
>>164249883
The way to make shuffling the enums work is to just shuffle them a single time, at the start, and then to pull an amount from each array.

So if you had 5 arrays a, b, c, d, e:

a[0],b[0],c[0],d[0],e[0] = 1 suspect
a[0],b[1],c[1],d[1],e[1] = another suspect
a[1],b[1],c[1],d[1],e[1] = another suspect
etc.

Just pull out a large sample. I mean, this is the "right" way to do it, but if you're creating 2000 suspects and you only have 14k maximum combos, this isn't going to speed things up all that much. If you end up adding to the enums in the future, you should consider doing it this way.
>>
Godot question
I'm trying to make pseudo-random tilemaps from GD script.
I can make my tiles appear at random coordinates but it puts down the entire tilesheet. How do i specify certain tiles on the sheet?
I have variables for my tilesize.

map.set_cell(x, y, 0) What does the 0 do? Does it just specify what sheet to use?
>>
>>164252294
I don't use many enums in this last project, just arrays. If I need a name I look it up by id. a string[ of names.
>>
You just have to pick anything that is scalable which is any solution except the one you have made.
>>
>>164252356
That's exactly my implementation but with an extra step (shuffling the enums). Think about it.
If I were to stop doing the selection in the last loop and used a counter instead, I would end up with a lot of suspects that share a lot of attributes except for one, so it wouldn't be a uniform distribution.
>>
>>164252670
enums are a hassle, structs are ok sometimes.
>>
>>164252798
yeah I would just make a struct

struct Ssuspect
{
int[][] hair;
in[][]t weapon;
int[][] position;
}

Ssuspect suspects;

suspects[0][1].position+=1;

suspect zero, wepon 1

you get the idea.
>>
>>164252748
Yeah but you could just mix up the selection process. It would be pretty hard to mix it up in a way which is completely uniform, but it wouldn't take much work to get something where the patterns are hard to find.

At least that way you aren't going through a loop 14k or 20k or 100k times just to pick out 2k numbers.

If you sell your game on itch, which has you upload your unity.exe file with the data in a zip folder, what stops someone from sharing that zip folder/entire game with other people or even worse on the internet?
Its not piracy really its more like sharing the file, and it confuses me as to how people sell games with unity on itch.

On steam this issue is easier to not care about because copies are tied to a steam account and it only becomes piracy because you have to crack things and get it to that piracy point.

With itch its awkward and spooky to sell my game there and have some dude share it with all his friends or worse upload it to strangers online when hes the only one that bought it.

Why doesn't unity builds have a feature for single PC use only or something some kinda way to not just make it EZ share folder of the game?
