That marcan42 guy who hacked the PS4 is pretty capable in low level/hardware stuff. Why don't the emudev scene have more people like this guy instead of fucks like Squarepusher who do mindless frontend refactoring all day that doesn't contribute to the emulation accuracy? Even byuu can into reverse engineering.

What's a good keyboard to Pad mapper?

Citra doesn't seem to detect my gamepad
>>
>>164158506
Oh no

Yeah, Retroarch uses a database file that can automatically list romsets with thumbnails and boxart and cheats and all that fancy shit

But it also skips over some games, and it most definitely skips over translated roms and romhacks. I have to manually launch those all the time.

And last I checked, Gameboy Advance boxart and thumbnails were utterly broken and missing, Gameboy wasn't complete, and NES had some missing art.

I don't know what to tell you, RA is an ambitious project, it's the kind of shit I set up and put on a jump drive so I can stick it and use it anywhere

They use more memory, but is quite negligible.

I like glui with the shield color scheme.

My prefere is rgui (it's also the one that use less memory) but the spacing on the fonts is kind tight, i prefer the glui use of all the space.

Wish i could make glui transparent like rgui when you press the menu button.

I could give more information if I knew why nothing fucking works on any of the computers I own but all I know is other people can play games normally on dolphin yet I can't on over 4 different computers, most recent of which can run absolutely any game on the market but doesn't know how to emulate.

Literally any ideas on how to stop lagging will help.

Drops to below 30 fps regardless of settings for most games.

Except for Paper Mario and the 1000 year door where it will run at 60 then drop down to a random rate every couple of seconds.

Which is why I asked about downclocking with the i7 processors. I saw a comment about it but i don't remember where.

What settings do you recommend for it?

Could it be the Iso's I'm using are the problem?

"and pandering to the 98% is a problem, because they don't have the best interests of preservation at heart so really need their hands forced if they're going to be helpful to the cause rather than a hindrance.

projects like this, and RA give them an easy way to not be helpful to the cause at all, and when you're talking about such a large %, that's dangerous, so I find the project entirely irresponsible. "

In Majora's Mask it did something similar in Darmani's flashback scene; the framerate was low (definitely slower than on console, like it was in the single digits) and it just got slower until it stopped, but the music kept going at regular speed the whole time. That scene had heavy motion blur and a monochrome shader over it, so I think it has something to do with that, since it slowed down for me in Zelda's flashback scene after the Spirit Temple (although that time the sound slowed down too)
>>
>>164233665
At one point zsnes made sense. These days it doesn't. I can see the argument that less accurate emulators are dangerous because shitty romhack devs write code specifically for them, but 'huur programmers are retarded' isn't a problem unique to emulation.

Anyway, I want to play PS1 games on my rpi3 but Lakka hard freezes if I try to use a PS3 controller wirelessly and retropie is even more of a hacked together piece of absolute shit than retroarch. The fuck do I do?

CEN64 is not ready and is very slow, though it probably deserves a port regardless, and PJ64 is only a little better for a couple of games that Mupen can't run.

Can't do Sega CD, also terribly slow even on modern hardware

0/10 m8. Read the disclaimer on the PS1 tests page.

>TwoMbit > Genesis Plus
This is probably the only valid one on your list. TwoMbit is cycle accurate but Genesis Plus GX's Master System (also known as SMS Plus) is still quite good in the meantime.

>Demul > Reicast
Closed Source, cannot be ported. Redream is a more likely candidate.

>SSF > Mednafen
Closed Source, cannot be ported. Mednafen is likely already close (or even better in some areas) to where that old emulator is at in accuracy.

>Magic Engine > Mednafen
Hahahaha

>higan > those old bsnes cores
Most of the relevant changes have been backported to bsnes-mercury by Alcaro. Most changes to higan have been for non-SNES or regressions like forcing 512x480 everywhere.

plugin based emulation is a clusterfuck desu but it is kinda nice when the mainline emulator stops being developed and at least the graphics can still be improved

Are you guys willing to help me figure out what's wrong with the newest Mednafen PS1 HR core that keeps crashing on me in Retroarch?

I've made sure the BIOS files are properly named and are in the system folder, the CUE files are named properly and don't have any mis-matches between what's written inside and on the .bin, etc. I know they aren't fucked because using the non-HR version of the core works perfectly.

Post some screenshot of the settings, and tell us what version of dolphin youre using

Is your harddrive old? There is some sort of bottleneck going on, Im using an SSD
>>
>>164248559
I'm using 5.0. My hardrive is brand new. I do have ssd memory but I try to save as much as possible since I have my operating system installed on it.

The problem seems to be when I actually enter a game or when something new pops up, it slows down radically. The titles are usually a constant 60fps. Then if I enter the game again, the things that we having trouble load fine but the rest lags.

If I close down dolphin and start it again, everything that was working fine stops working fine and begins lagging again. I can play the first three levels of a game if I close and open it about 4 times but then the fourth level will lag.

I have everything set to recommended settings from the dolphin faq.

Completely new to emulation but after seeing these cuties I just have to play their game.
Problem is that I tried various versions of Citra and even with the best performing (from http://www.imagicarts.com/2016/11/pokemon-sun-and-moon-romemulator-link.html ) I'm only getting 40fps outside.
I don't really care about the gamespeed that's slowed, but about the sound which is stuttery/stretched. Is there any way to get more fps or to drop frames or is that just the limit with Citra at the time.

I chose to shitpost here not because it's fun, but because I saw the need for it.
I think learning from today will do you much good, because lets be honest, do you really think people will suddenly change and stop shitposting because you rant a bit? They won't. So I think it lies in your interest to understand how to deal with these people so that you know the right course of action the next time you come across someone with a hunger for (You)s.

RetroArch

RetroArch is the reference frontend for the libretro API. Popular examples of implementations for this API includes videogame system emulators and game engines, but also more generalized 3D programs. These programs are instantiated as dynamic libraries. We refer to these as "libretro cores".

libretro

libretro is an API that exposes generic audio/video/input callbacks. A frontend for libretro (such as RetroArch) handles video output, audio output, input and application lifecycle. A libretro core written in portable C or C++ can run seamlessly on many platforms with very little/no porting effort.

While RetroArch is the reference frontend for libretro, several other projects have used the libretro interface to include support for emulators and/or game engines. libretro is completely open and free for anyone to use.

Binaries

Latest Windows binaries are currently hosted on the buildbot.
Support

To reach developers, either make an issue here on GitHub, make a thread on the forum, or visit our IRC channel: #retroarch @ irc.freenode.org.
Documentation

See our wiki. On Unix, man-pages are provided. More developer-centric stuff is found here.

Philosophy

RetroArch attempts to be small and lean, while still having all the useful core features expected from an emulator. It is designed to be very portable and features a gamepad-centric UI. It also has a full-featured command-line interface.

In some areas, RetroArch goes beyond and emphasizes on not-so-common technical features such as multi-pass shader support, real-time rewind (Braid-style), video recording (using FFmpeg), etc.

RetroArch also emphasizes on being easy to integrate into various launcher frontends.

>>
Platforms

RetroArch has been ported to the following platforms outside PC:

PlayStation 3
Xbox 360 (Libxenon/XeXDK)
Xbox 1
Wii, Gamecube (Libogc)
Nintendo 3DS
Raspberry Pi
Android
iOS
Blackberry

Dependencies (PC)

There are no true hard dependencies per se.

On Windows, RetroArch can run with only Win32 as dependency.

On Linux, there are no true dependencies. For optimal usage, the following dependencies come as recommended:

GL headers / Vulkan headers
X11 headers and libs, or EGL/KMS/GBM

OSX port of RetroArch requires latest versions of XCode to build.

RetroArch can utilize these libraries if enabled:

nvidia-cg-toolkit
libxml2 (GLSL XML shaders)
libfreetype2 (TTF font rendering on screen)

RetroArch needs at least one of these audio driver libraries:

ALSA
OSS
RoarAudio
RSound
OpenAL
JACK
SDL
PulseAudio
XAudio2 (Win32, Xbox 360)
DirectSound (Win32, Xbox 1)
CoreAudio (OSX, iOS)

To run properly, RetroArch requires a libretro implementation present, however, as it's typically loaded dynamically, it's not required at build time.
Dependencies (Console ports, mobile)

Console ports have their own dependencies, but generally do not require anything other than what the respective SDKs provide.
Configuring

The default configuration is defined in config.def.h. It is not recommended to change this unless you know what you're doing. These can later be tweaked by using a config file. A sample configuration file is installed to /etc/retroarch.cfg. This is the system-wide config file.

RetroArch will on startup create a config file in $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/retroarch/retroarch.cfg if doesn't exist. Users only need to configure a certain option if the desired value deviates from the value defined in config.def.h.

To configure joypads, use the built-in menu or the retroarch-joyconfig command-line tool.
>>
Has anyone used ESX before? It's a PS3 emulator that reputedly can run certain games at 60fps but the wiki doesn't even mention it.

It does mention that your specs need to be top notch but I find it weird that the wiki doesn't even acknowledge it.

Compiling and installing

Linux

Prerequisites:

sudo apt-get install -y make git-core curl g++ pkg-config libglu1-mesa-dev freeglut3-dev mesa-common-dev libsdl1.2-dev libsdl-image1.2-dev libsdl-mixer1.2-dev libsdl-ttf2.0-dev

Compiling:

./configure
make

Mac

Prerequisites: XCode, Cg.
You can open the project (pkg/apple/RetroArch.xcodeproj) in the Xcode IDE and build (⌘-B) and run (⌘-R) it there. Or you can use the command line...
Debug:

# Build
xcodebuild -target RetroArch -configuration Debug -project pkg/apple/RetroArch.xcodeproj
# Run
open ./pkg/apple/build/Debug/RetroArch.app/

Release:

# Build
xcodebuild -target RetroArch -configuration Release -project pkg/apple/RetroArch.xcodeproj
# Run
open ./pkg/apple/build/Release/RetroArch.app/

PC

Instructions for compiling on PC can be found in the wiki.

PlayStation 3

RetroArch PS3 needs to be compiled in the following order:

1) Compile RetroArch Salamander

make -f Makefile.ps3.salamander

2) Finally, compile RetroArch packed together with the GUI:

make -f Makefile.ps3

PlayStation 3 - Creating a PKG installable file

You can add pkg as a parameter in order to make a PKG file - for example:

make -f Makefile.ps3 pkg

This creates an NPDRM package. This can be installed on debug PS3s.

To make a non-NPDRM package that can be installed on a jailbroken/CFW PS3 (such as PSGroove or PS3 CFWs and other 3.55 CFW derivatives), do:

make -f Makefile.ps3 pkg-signed

If you're using Kmeaw 3.55 firmware, the package needs to be signed:

make -f Makefile.ps3 pkg-signed-cfw

NOTE: A pre-existing libretro library needs to be present in the root directory in order to link RetroArch PS3. This file needs to be called libretro_ps3.a.

Xbox 360 (XeXDK)

You will need Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 installed (or higher) in order to compile RetroArch 360.

The solution file can be found at the following location:

pkg/msvc-360/RetroArch-360.sln
>>
NOTE: A pre-existing libretro library needs to be present in the pkg/msvc-360/RetroArch-360/Release directory in order to link RetroArch 360. This file needs to be called libretro_xdk360.lib.

Xbox 360 (Libxenon)

You will need to have the libxenon libraries and a working Devkit Xenon toolchain installed in order to compile RetroArch 360 Libxenon.

make -f Makefile.xenon

NOTE: A pre-existing libretro library needs to be present in the root directory in order to link RetroArch 360 Libxenon. This file needs to be called libretro_xenon360.a.

Wii

You will need to have the libogc libraries and a working Devkit PPC toolchain installed in order to compile RetroArch Wii.

make -f Makefile.griffin platform=wii

NOTE: A pre-existing libretro library needs to be present in the root directory in order to link RetroArch Wii. This file needs to be called libretro_wii.a.

Hey buddy, just found out something.

Set UV Cycling to 1 and in most cases you'll be able to play it at 100% speed. Although in some level cutscenes you'll go down to 50%.

Emulation settings - speedhacks - UV Cycle Stealing and set that to 1.

It makes the game a little faster than it should be but it clears up most of the slowdown on PCSX2's side, so you can now run the game without it slowing down terribly.

I'd test it on 2 and 3 but I'm having too much fun playing the first game again to stop.
>>
>>164372239
In R&C (all 3 of them) it seems to only force the internal framerate halving thing the games have to be on way more often but in general everything done on the VU will be done worse and on VU heavy games it can and will break in strange ways, R&C is an exception ZOE2 is more in line with what you get when a game relies on VU heavily.

I can feel input lag when turning on vsync in a game like CS:GO, but I never feel input lag in emulators.

In CS the difference is staggering, like it almost feels like half a second of lag between my mouse and the crosshair on screen but I can't feel jack shit in emulators.

Is there a decent method of testing this?
>>
>>164385837
Keep in mind you're using different inputs devices as well.
>>
>>164385837

Solder a LED to a controller button or keyboard key that lits up when it's pressed.

Then take a high-FPS camera and film both the LED and the screen. By measuring the number of frames between the moment the LED lits up and the moment the input is registered on the screen you get a measure of your total latency.

The difficult part is getting the high-fps camera I suppose, although I guess you could start with 60fps and see if it's enough to measure a difference. I think some phones let you film in 120fps with a reduced resolution as well for "slo mo".

That's because source engine game have ridiculous amount of input lag with Vsync on, easily over 250ms when the worst emulators rarely have over 160ms and most are under 100ms.

>Is there a decent method of testing this?
An high speed camera (250fps is decent enough, 1000 or more is better), a modded controller that activates a led when you press a button on it preferably one that is as simple as possible even if the impact should be negligible

Dolphin Progress Report: December 2016

Written by JMC47, MayImilae on Jan. 2, 2017

/ Last update on Jan. 2, 2017 / Short link / Forum thread

We have celebrated the 15th anniversary of the GameCube and the 10th anniversary of the Wii in the last few months. As the Wii's successor, and the brand lineage, has been discontinued in the run-up to the release of the Switch, it is a time for reflection. But, this doesn't mean an end for the GameCube and Wii; if anything, it's a new beginning.

This is when emulation and preservation becomes even more important. How many titles in previous generations would have been lost or forgotten if not for emulation? How many of your favorite games were first experienced in an emulator? With Nintendo's NES Classic and Virtual Console lines, it's very likely that the next generation of gamers are going to be more aware of emulation than ever. Favorite games and experiences are not only going to be passed from friend to friend, but across generations. And we here are going to do our best to make sure that not only are those popular games awaiting, but the entire library of highs and lows, knowns and unknowns.
>>
reminder that emugen is full of aspies who never actually play the games they emulate
>>
On the note of software that most people probably haven't experienced, we decided to take a look at one of Nintendo's more interesting pack-in titles, The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition. Featuring emulation software for both the NES and N64 Zelda games (With A Link to the Past omitted only because they were trying to sell the Game Boy Player,) and a demo of Wind Waker, it's one of the more sought after GameCube games.

The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition - A Quick Retrospective

With all of that out of the way, we hope you enjoy this month's notable changes!

Notable Changes

5.0-1451 - Very Slightly Better UI for GameCube Microphone by aldelaro5

This one is fairly important to those who want to use GameCube Microphone emulation alongside Native GameCube Controller Support. It's also important to anyone who likes logical things that make sense. Dolphin doesn't handle exceptions very well; and the GameCube Microphone has one pretty big exception to it. It's a memory card device... with a button on it. Because it has a button on it, so, Dolphin has to let you configure how to hit that button. Clearly the logical place to put the configuration is... the GameCube Controller Configuration Page!!!gcmic-old.png

If that wasn't enough, there is even more insanity to be found. The Microphone could be plugged into Slot A or Slot B, with some games requiring it to be in Slot B. Mario Party 6 and 7 are probably the most commonly played of the Microphone games and use Slot B. A common complaint from users is the Microphone doesn't work... because they were configuring the microphone button on Player 1's configuration page. If you wanted to use the Microphone in Slot B, you'd have to configure Controller 2's microphone button. Even if that controller isn't plugged in.
>>
While this may seem bad already, it still gets even worse than that. These menus are disabled when using Native GameCube Controller support, meaning you'd have to switch to a standard controller, configure the button, and then switch back to Native GameCube Controller. And that's assuming you already knew where the microphone configuration button was hiding.

After years of deliberation, the team finally determined that there is in fact a better way to do this. The button is now configurable where you select the Microphone.

gcmic-new.png

A memory card slot accessory control placed where the memory cards go? Crazy!

5.0-1473 - Fix off by 1 Transparency Errors in HW Backends by stenzek

Sometimes, typos are the hardest bugs to find. You have this (theoretically) correct implementation that seems to do everything right, yet, the results are slightly off. So slightly off, that in most games the difference is extremely small. No one has reported that the fake-HDR glow is slightly too bright in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. And why would they? The difference is so tiny that it's impossible to tell.

mp3offby1-broken.png

Can you tell which is before and which is after?
mp3offby1-fixed.png

Without looking at the URLs, you cheater.

Thankfully, we do have FifoCi for catching small differences, which is incredibly useful when trying to make things more and more accurate.

prime3fifo.png

The difference is hard to discern with the human eye, but FifoCi sees all.

For someone to even look into a bug, sometimes the trick is figuring out something is wrong. Would-be blog-writers actually reported a noticeable manifestation of this issue five years ago as one of their earlier contributions to the project. Fortune Street had a white mask in the middle of the screen that is fairly difficult to see. At the right moments, it could jump out though.

fortunestreetwhitebox-broken.jpg

The accursed white box, bane of testers for years.
>>
>>164393291
DD/MM 24:00
>>
The reason why the bug is so much more noticeable than any of the other related issues is simple: there are ~20 invisible (or at least, should have been invisible,) objects stacked up in the middle of the screen! By having ~20 off-by-one errors stacked up on top of one another, a nearly invisible bug became visible! But why are they visible?

At this point, FifoCI could tell us that the software renderer did not have this bug (though, in the original issue report it was noted to suffer from it.) This made things a lot easier, because now all we had to do was compare both implementations and see where the difference occurred. On the hardware backends, it turned out the alpha value was exactly one higher than on software renderer.

Upon further investigation, the problem was located within the alpha combiner. A bias was being added in the hardware backends that was absent from the software renderer. While there is a field that controls whether this value is added or not, on the software renderer the behavior was different between color and alpha channels while the hardware backends used the same logic for both cases. This meant the bias was being added when it shouldn't be in this case, and not being added when it should be in others. When accounting for this behavior, this long time problem is finally fixed.

fortunestreetwhitebox-fixed.jpg

And finally the puzzle is solved. The white box is no more.

While Fortune Street is one of the only noticeable issues to the naked eye, there are a lot of games that will look very slightly different. The best chance for seeing something noticeable will be in titles relying on heavy use of glow and or bloom effects.

5.0-1487 - Texture Decoding Fixes by stenzek

We rely on users for accurate information regarding bugs. We don't always have access to the games or the time to play through to where a bug occurs. In the case of Burnout 2: Point of Impact, a user reported strange texturing defects on the sides of certain vehicles. They all looked low resolution, and they showed screenshots from PCSX2 as a comparison to how the textures were supposed to look.

burnout2-pcsx2.jpg

Look at how much better PCSX2's version of the truck looks here!
burnout2-dolphin.png

This very much looks like an emulator bug in Dolphin.

The screenshots do show that the textures look way off in Dolphin, but to be sure, we asked the user to get screenshots from console. While we can't speculate on why, the user obfuscated the fact they were using PCSX2 for screenshots by switching it to 4:3 mode and lowering the internal resolution. At the time that was enough to fool us, and was only discovered a few weeks ago that they were indeed screenshots from PCSX2 due to its own issues with the game in the revision they were using.

And thus, this bug as become one of the more notable "unsolved GPU bugs" among Dolphin developers, and many man hours have been spent investigating it. Even a trusted tester made a mistake when testing it on console by getting screenshots of a different truck that had proper texturing. He eventually atoned for the mistake by retesting things and figuring out that the truck indeed was broken on console! And, thanks to sharp eyes, realized that there was something else that required attention.

burnout2realbug-dolphin.png

The textures look terrible on the vehicle on emulator...
burnout2realbug-console.png

The textures also look terrible on console. But they are different, which means Dolphin was doing something wrong!

So what is going on now? Burnout 2 is using a common texture format referred to as "CMPR". It is a block texture compression format which is very similar to the DXT1/BC1 formats used on PC GPUs. In this format, groups of 4x4 texels share a 4-entry lookup table, and each texel uses a 2-bit index into this table. Each texture block contains two colors, in RGB565 format. The first two colors in the lookup table are the static colors without any modification. The third and fourth change value depending on whether the first color is numerically greater than the second:

if (color1 > color2)
color3 = color1 + (color2 - color1) / 3, opaque
color4 = color2 - (color1 - color2) / 3, opaque
else
color3 = average(color1, color2), opaque
color4 = color2, transparent (this is different to the PC, where it is transparent black)

The texels that were exhibiting the issue used color4, so the problem was likely within this calculation. Changing color4 to use average(color1, color2) as well, but setting the alpha channel to zero (making it transparent) makes the texture look a lot nicer.

While it doesn't make the broken textures look much better in Burnout 2, they do match console. And fixing this accuracy issue did bring us some surprising benefits as well! A lot of textures that used alpha cutout textures look a lot better around their edges.

animalparadegrass-broken.png

Oh wow, could that be chlorophytum comosum?
animalparade-fixed.png

Nope, just an alpha glitch.

While Harvest Moon: Animal Parade shows us an edge case where certain textures look slightly off, nearly every texture in Rogue Squadron 2 and 3 is changed to a degree. You don't even have to look any further than the main menu for issues.

rogueleadermainmenu-broken.png

The Rogue Squadron text really looks nasty.
rogueleadermainmenu-fixed.png

Fixed. There are still some compression artifacts which can't be helped, but it looks much better.

>>
Choosing a ship, flying around in-game and even the main menu all had defects thanks to this bug. Despite this, there weren't any bug reports about the game's texturing being wrong. It just goes to show you how many little things are still wrong out there.

5.0-1490 - EFB Copies Color Coefficient Fixes by stenzek

A few months ago, testers began experimenting with EFB Copies to Ram Only mode in an effort to weed out bugs in the EFB Copies to Texture path. Historically, Dolphin has had two modes for storing Emulated Frame Buffer (EFB) copies - to Texture Only (GPU memory) and to Texture and Ram (GPU memory and system memory). The later is what we commonly refer to as "EFB Copies to RAM."

EFB Copies to Ram Only should provide none of the benefits of the hybrid path while adding some extra downsides, so it is not accessible to users. Testers though were interested in using this mode to see if there were any bugs in the EFB Copies to Texture path. Poking around with the feature, testers noticed a few longstanding issues were fixed in that mode. Some minor overbloom issues in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity aside, the biggest difference was in Metroid Prime 3. The colors were completely different in every codepath, even Software!

oldefb2tex.png

EFB to Texture/Hybrid, what all players saw. It looks weirdly warm and splotchy.
softwarebefore.png

Software. It is very close here, but a bit too green.
efb2texdisabled.png

EFB Copies to Ram Only, a mode only available by modifying the source code.

Every path was wrong except EFB Copies to Ram Only! After closely examining console screen captures, it was determined that software renderer wasn't blue enough while the EFB Copy to Texture/Hybrid path was losing precision. Because we had a path that matched console, although normally locked away, it was fairly simple to narrow down the culprit. The shader system uses floating point math, and each codepath had a different implementation!
>>
I wonder if the guy from yesterday is spamming us now
>>
But wait, our long time readers say, didn't Dolphin move from floating point to integers years ago to match the GameCube and Wii, becoming much more accurate in the process? While that is true, the big conflict of the time was that added accuracy would be a huge performance cost. Thus, a number of low-risk demanding paths were left in floating point to preserve as much performance as possible.

By figuring out where all of the code-paths differed, and checking with console, Stenzek was able to determine that the EFB to Ram Only codepath was indeed visually correct, and changed all of the other codepaths to that implementation. Thanks to Stenzek's efforts, the bug is fixed on all codepaths!

truefixedefb2tex.png

EFB to Texture/Hybrid. As cool as a spaceship should be!
softwareafter.png

Software. No more green machine.
console.png

Console. Slight differences via capture make it harder to compare than you might think.

This also fixes discoloration issues in other games. In case you've forgotten, any change to anything in Dolphin is likely to affect Rogue Squadron 2/3, and this is yet again no exception. Certain textures, reflections and shadows were returning slightly incorrect colors due to this bug. Though it's really hard to tell, nothing gets past FifoCi!

rogueleadercolorfifo.png

It should be noted that this is likely a temporary fix. While this is working in every case we've thrown at it, it is impossible to make a floating point value exactly match an integer value. Eventually, all of the remaining floating point math will need to be changed to integers.

5.0-1511 - Nintendo TGC Format Disc Support by Josjuice

As shown at the beginning of the progress report, Nintendo TGC files are a special disc format stored on GameCube Demo Discs. Dolphin already could run the demo discs, which would launch a loader that could go through and launch the discs, but, now you can extract those TGC files and load them right into Dolphin no problem.
>>
For the most part, this just allows you to bypass the demo disc loader, but in some cases limitations on the demos are imposed by the loader itself!! So, in the case of Wind Waker's demo on The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition the loader itself imposes the twenty minute time limit! You can explore the full potential of the demo to your heart's content without cheat codes.

5.0-1605 - Yet Another Depth Adjustment by Armada651

Metroid Prime is one of those titles that seems to keep popping up here with depth issues. For years, the scan-visor was rendering slightly wrong due to clipping issues that Armada finally squashed a few months ago. Then, Armada brought forth depth range handling in the vertex shader to correctly handle depth calculation in scenarios with oversized depth ranges. Doing that fixed depth clipping issues in some games, but, in Metroid Prime it actually caused some regressions, namely in the mini-map!

primezfighting.png

No one likes Z-fighting.

The bad thing about handling the depth range in the vertex shader is that while Dolphin gains the ability to handle large depth ranges, we then lose precision with small depth ranges. So, Armada has moved yet again to try and fix this issue by only handling the depth range in the vertex shader when the game is using an oversized depth range. This restores Metroid Prime's minimap without breaking anything else. Hopefully. So finally, Metroid Prime (and every other game) should be working properly again on all backends and hardware.

Hey /emugen/

I really want to enjoy my emulated shit over CRT.

Which option would be best for this?

1. Grab a CRT VGA monitor
2. Buy X so I can connect my modern GPU to my good old TV with SCART
3. Buy specific hardware to emulate games and connect it to said TV
>>

A $20 wii connected to a CRT set is nice because it can output 240p natively and can emulate SMS, Genesis, Sega CD and NES perfectly. It can do quite some NeoGeo and arcade stuff too but is limited somewhat by its shitty RAM.
>>
>>164400520
The first option is easiest, though finding specific models of CRT monitor is getting harder. The other options are only worthwhile if you use a PVM or other RGB display.
>>
>>164400520
Depends.

If you like the look of thick scanlines and sharp pixels, just get a DisplayPort to VGA adapter and a PC CRT monitor.

If you prefer the look of consumer sets, you're going to need a DisplayPort to VGA adapter and a VGA to SCART or component transcoder (not an adapter).

Or you can get a Wii and connect it to a CRT. It won't run (many) PlayStation games, but everything else up to Gamecube will be fine.

I'd assume 240 would be a smudgy upscale or something

I can deal with not emulating neogeo or any 32 bit consoles (well, n64 would have been nice but Wii has VC titles I guess).

You can fix it with Reicast libretro by setting dynarec to 'generic_recompiler' (it's a core option), it doesn't crash then. It will be slower than the dynarec though OFC but might still be fullspeed.

What the hell is .tga and why does Kega Fusion save screenshots in that format instead of .jpg or .png?
>>
>>164451418
>What the hell is .tga
> It was the native format of TARGA and VISTA boards, which were the first graphic cards for IBM-compatible PCs to support Highcolor/truecolor display. This family of graphic cards was intended for professional computer image synthesis and video editing with PCs; for this reason, usual resolutions of TGA image files match those of the NTSC and PAL video formats.[2]
>TGA files commonly have the extension ".tga" on PC DOS
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truevision_TGA

>why does Kega Fusion save screenshots in that format

So the Dolphin spastics will simply ignore any bug report that doesn't have a FIFO log attached to it, But there's not hotkey option to record it.

So what am I supposed to do?

I keep trying to emulate MAME games but for some reason it doesn't work. Are the ROMs from emuparadise shit? Haven't emulated MAME in years, don't remember it being that hard to work
>>
>>164468704
MAME requires totally new romsets periodically, so anyplace that doesn't keep up distroing the latest romset can cause issues. But really this is because MAME is retarded, not the sites that distro roms.

I'm on MAME 0.178, can I check somewhere if the ROM is usable for this version?

Also why is all this shit showing up under "Working", I don't remember downloading this at all and I doubt any of these work
>>
>>164469545
Never heard of anyone actually doing that. Mostly people just update to the latest version and then find the latest set I don't even know where that is
>>
>>164469708
I see, thanks. I usually pick certain games to download instead of whole ROM sets since I don't have too much free space on my computer, maybe I can find updated ROMs somewhere
>>
>>164469545
>Also why is all this shit showing up under "Working", I don't remember downloading this at all and I doubt any of these work
MAME uses an unusual system for console or computer in which you can launch the machine then insert a cart/dis/disk (then reset it to actually start it), those are working in the sense that they can emulate a system with no cart/disk/tape (basically a black screen) which is totally useless as you can probably guess.
Some of those do still require a BIOS for full functionality.

i am having this error on citra when i try to run pokemon moon. given my driver are up to date is there any fix known?

i only ask because i see some people have it working in the thread.
>>
>>164478759
Actually my actual problem is that it doesn't launch the emulator if the path has a space on it, so

>"C:\Program Files\RetroArch\retroarch.exe" -L "C:\Program Files\RetroArch\cores\nestopia_libretro.dll" "%ROM_RAW%"

Which is the actual location were I want it on, doesn't work. I tried no " on the path, or just having the " around Program Files, bu neither works either.
>>
>>164480603
I think I ended up changing my filenames so they didn't have spaces. Works if you have them around the rom section though.
>>
>>164480746
I did this last time I set it up, but I prefer not having to move the way I organize files just so a program can have its way...

I fixed it though. This is so stupid, look at how the quotes need to be put:

>C:\"Program Files"\RetroArch\retroarch.exe -L "C:\Program Files\RetroArch\cores\mame_libretro.dll" "%ROM_RAW%"
>>
>>164481138
Yeah, I've never had the issue because I keep mine in documents rather than program files.
>>
>>164481308
My username also has a space on it lol
>>
>>164481607
For what purpose?
>>
>>164481695

>>
>>164481138
This is a Windows commandline quirk. It's always required paths with spaces be enclosed in " on the commandline or in the target field of shortcuts.

so like, aside for fpse and epsxe, are there any other ps1 emulators on android with vr support?
I managed to rig my gear vr to work as a google cardboard thing and been playing with epsxe thus far.

The problems with fpse and epsxe are that in epsxe, the screens are not rounded so a part of the display cuts off and viewing certain things near the borders is a bit hard.

fpse on the other hand has rounded screens but for some reason the sound cuts out and stops working after 5 minutes.

Here's my cat in "sausage mode" for the time being.

Just viruses, anon. Just ignore them.

Go to the wiki. Type "Need games?" into the search box and then find the GCN archive.org redump. Put a / at the end of the archive link to browse the archive to extract individual games.
>>
>>164486284

I've had that in the past. I haven't looked into it but I assume there's some kind of padding at the end of the archive. I wouldn't worry about it as long as the file extracted successfully otherwise.

It's probably nothing, but you should make sure you're on the latest 7zip version. Versions below 16.02 are exploitable.

>We came to Nintendo's attention by way of a trade show, where we had something rather neat to show off. Dave Jones had wanted to be able to play back (what was then called) FMV from the SNES and the Amiga. Full Motion Video was named as such to differentiate it from video of lesser frame rate, resolution, or colour depth. Brian Watson handled the SNES coding with Andy White taking care of the Amiga. Nintendo had seemingly believed that FMV playback from a SNES cartridge simply simply wasn't possible. Given its limited processing power and graphics chipset, it was an understandable assumption. Such delights would have to wait for a next-generation console. With a clip from Star Wars burnt into a cartridge ROM, we proved them wrong.
>(Mike Dailly, whom I regularly annoy with questions, can upend any discussion of DMA history – in this case he told me he possesses said cartridge. It's 4MBits.)

When will we be able to emulate star wars on bSNES?
