More like they get a below average player to playtest it on Deity and balance it around that.

or maybe they're doing the classic trick where they make a DLC faction/civ/character/whatever super OP at first to get more people to buy it at full price.

>Space Rome.

Collectivist, Spiritualist, Militarist; Divine Mandate.

Rename your ruler Emperor/Empress.

You might ditch Militarist for another rank in Spiritualist for the decreased Ethic Diversion, but it's probably not needed once you've upgraded to Transcendent Empire and built a Ministry of Benevolence. Militarist prevents wartime unhappiness, gives you a more powerful planetary bombardment, and adds weight to drawing weapons technology.

I can't believe that Sectors still can't handle slavery properly.

Is it too difficult to program the thing to avoid enslaving a pop when it's mathematically inefficient? Why would you enslave a scientist, or a generator engineer?

Why would you not enslave a miner, or a farmer?

I'm playing a despotic empire and I've had to outlaw slavery because the sectors are so fucking bad at it.

I'm not fond of these neo-RTS where you're forced into constant skirmishes.
>>
>>163337118

RTS have literally always been about constant skirmishes

You build a base, build up your eco, send raids, fortify your eco, and then send armies to try and destroy the enemy base

You also send builders out to expand to new territories to get unique resources, more resources in general, or new bases to attack from

This gameplay motif fits the description of every RTS known to man, from Company of Heroes to Empire Earth, including Age of Empires, Starcraft, 40k, Supreme Commander and many more that I don't know or can't remember. Exceptions are very few if any

If anything, the RTS genra has probably stalled because no-one has dared to try something novel. Probably a mix of GSG and RTS will be the way forward, but making it is another story

The opposite side, distilling RTS to their base, has failed spectacularly with games like EE3 and AOE3, and probably contributed to taking the whole genra down for nearly a decade
>>
>>163337529
In recent RTS, you're forced into skirmishes. Just compare Company of Heroes or Etherium to Ages of Empires 2.
>>
>>163336134

Every earlygame wants me to play Stellaris so bad, despite knowing how every fucking game turns out, hours of clicking +1 on buildings and waiting truces to expire when I'm strong enough to take on the entire galaxy already alone.

Get Fallen Empires Expanded if you want Sol based Human FEs.
Either way, how Sol spawns in the base game generally happens as one of the following:
You start your Empire there

UN of Earth spawns in game with Sol as the home system

It's a pre-FTL world with Humans

It's a tomb world

It's a tomb world with irradiated Humans

It's a tomb world with roaches

>>
>>163342015
Ugh, no.
Corporate Nationalism is broken, as in it does not work as intended.

What it does is take the civilian bank and give it to the state (aka, you the player), so you will get a fair bit of money. For exactly ONE economy tick.
However.... Since all civilian money is now your money and cannot be used by civilians, your economy will grind to a halt because traders can no longer afford buy resources, or refit ships, or buy fuel.
And all your colonies will be pegged at 100% tax (which you cannot change) which is not nescessarily a problem with a corporate gov., but if you ever change out of it (and you will) it causes all kind of interesting things to happen because happiness will go through the floor.
The longer you stay in a corporate gov. the worse your economy gets, and the worse the effects of changing out of it become.

It is a giant headache that is entirely the opposite of fun or useful.
Avoid.

The death star was more than just a tool of terror and the ultimate weapon to destroy the rebel alliance. It was a major economic project that provided jobs to billions of construction workers, pilots, logistics specialists, etc. Imagine it as the Hoover Dam or Empire State Building times a billion.
>>
>>163344537
Streamers never play a game for more than two months. Just check TotalBiscuit's records on Youtube, that faggot only plays games for 1 hour before making a review about it, and then he drops them.

>>163344819
But in that scene, they refer to the building itself (since they reused the plans of the original Death Star, and only tweaked them a bit to problem the vent), so if it's just a matter of construction, why not use droids?

Because the Empire isn't one big space communist state, it functions as an extremely capitalist system, and the death star represented a shitton of additional employment.

It's more that streamers who play nothing but civ will not gain 20000 viewers, let alone maintain it over months, so you never hear about the ones who do stick with the game. The only ones who can maintain the interest of their audience are either variety streamers who jump from game to game, or people who play highly popular competitive games like HS or LoL. It's not a lack of streamers, it's a lack of viewers.

The closest exception you can find is the more popular parts of the speedrunner community, where some people can maintain up to 1000 viewers doing nothing but dark souls runs all day.

I have the Artificier skill which lets me start with the Create Artifact spell. Artificier also reduces the cost of Create Artifact.
And I have the Runemaster skill which reduces the cost of Arcane(neutral) spells, which Create Artifact is.

that way I can craft items for less than I can sell them for.

What enchanments you can depend on what spell books you have.
Made sure to start with 5 Sorcery so I could add Magic Immunity.

Sorry, I'm using Dominions slang here.
When you pick a wizard in Master of Magic, you have various icons, with the dark mage (Sss'rathi or something) only having skulls. This is the "path" that I'm referring to, and it comes from Dominions 4 where the magic level was called path to represent the fact that a wizard can either be specialized or versatile.

Ah
As opposed to Life, Death, Chaos, Nature or Sorcery as a specialization, I'd say my wizards basic path is Crafting.

Retorts are nice, especially those two together, but just going for pure 11 spellbooks can be very good in MoM. If you have 10 spellsbooks in a school, you can research all 40 spells in that spell school. If you start with 11 you also start with a rare spell in that school. 11-13 books also give you a discount on spells in that school.
11 Chaos with Chaos Spawn as your rare spell, or 11 Death with Wraiths as your rare spell, or Incarnation/Stream of Life can all be pretty powerful if you like specializing in a single school.
The rare spell pick can give you a lot of tempo, while skills/retorts(like Artificier) are generally worth more in the long run. Especially if they're part of a combo.

Gotta cater to SJWs. Paradox did the same by making slaves worthless in Europa Universalis.
>>
Going from Stellaris to EU4, holy shit what was Paradox thinking when it made war and diplomacy for Stellaris? All they'd have to do to improve the game is take some cues from their other games. War especially in Stellaris is such a chore. If they refuse to make war more interesting then they should at least make it quicker.
>>
>>163359919
>when you leave /v/ and /pol/ but you are permanently disabled
>>
>>163360181
Slaves are just irrelevant in EU. There's not really any mechanic that would benefit from more involved slavery, so having them as just a good is fine.

I doubt that Paradox is afraid of the "SJWs", slavery is more involved in Stellaris and also purging exists, not to mention half the shit you can do in Crusader Kings.
>>
>>163359920
Yeah, if you can destroy a spaceport, you can destroy the garrison HP with limited bombardment by the time your army transports actually get into position.
>>
>>163360329
You misunderstand.
Slaves are a good in Europa Universalis, but they're always low-priced good.
In fact, they were worth a lot of money, but Paradox was afraid of upsetting people that don't play games.

Please understand, it's not a simple WE GOTTA OPPRESS THEM DARKIES mentality. The fact is slavery was a major part of human civilization. Capturing enemy workers was always regarded as slavery in Civ games, and it is unchanged in Civ 6.

All that's missing is the ability to sacrifice population for production (which never made sense anyway, unless they're building those pyramids out of human bones), and a slavery economics card (although I recommend you do some research about how many rights serfs really had historically).

It sounds like the 'problem' would be solved in EU4 if slaves were just more valuable. That's just a tweak of one value.

Frankly, it's hard to see how Paradox has fallen under sway of a nebulous SJW (((menace))) when every one of their games either stars Hitler, has explicit slavery, or encourages the player to be a Machiavellian psychopath who tortures children. The alt-right has become at least as oversensitive as the strawmen they oppose.

The reason some would be more acceptable that others would be because of history - white dudes, have a pretty bad rep with how they've treated everyone else over the last couple of hundred years. Mods that let you be one of those badly treated groups could be seen as empowering them and giving them a status denied by the white dude hegemony of the West. But given how complex and messy all that would be to try and explain I suspect the developers would be much wiser to just ban "all X anything" mods for the time being.

Their reasoning was just a mere "but das racis'!" before people caught up on the swede shenanigans. I seriously can't get enough of Endless Legend.

I have yet to find a RTS game with such replayability and diversity.

Playing Forgotten, Morgawr, Roving Clans etc.. all feels like playing a different game whichever I choose.

I know it's not super balanced, but this game let's you keep the base traits which makes them special but also make them competative or play like you want with the secondary traits which again kinda evens out the balance.

WE NEED MORE GAMES LIKE THIS!

The only games that makes me keep interest after houndreds of hours of playtime is EL and TW:Warhammer.

Stellaris, Endless Space, SoaSE, SotS makes me want to take a pause every 20 or 30th hour where I have to play something else for 10-15 hours minimum.

Civ VI and Age of Wonders III still feel a bit lackluster in depth.

The amount of micro EL requires with all DLCs is comparable to RTS, so you aren't far off.
>>
>>163378758

This reminds me, we should really try an all types strategy games general.

This time without offending our severly autistic friends.
>>
>>163378336

Having more barracks means that your original barracks just make units quicker.
>>

>>
>>163379213
>>163378818

I love the amount of micro I have to do. 90% of the turns got alwasy present me with something to interact with compared to all other strategy games I've played where I just end up waiting and/or move troops everywhere.

Civilization has always had those empty turns where the only thing I do is defend against barbs.

Stellaris has some problems with the mid game where you just mostly wait for tech or planets to grow.

SotS is just waiting for tech or ships, but can't really compare it because its a very aggressive game where WAR is the only thing you hunt for.

Galactic Civilizations III doesnt got much to keep me interested so far. Maybe it's a lot better with the DLC's.

EU IV is something I just have to sit down and try to learn really well to get a feel of all the possibilites.

ES kinda lacks that diverse feel between the factions. ES2 may fix this I hope. (They do talk alot about what they learned from EL so there is hope).

SoaSE with it's RTS gameplay would be a lot more enjoyable with a pause function. (if there is one, then I have never noticed it after 40 hours in it). Again, there is a high chance I'm retarded.

Warhammer is always fun with its tactic combat and huge diversity between troops compared to other TW games which I love.

Age of Wonders keeps being the same build order every time and It doesnt feel THAT diverse between the factions if we look away from the Necromancer which is the faction I play the most because of the converting of factions to become ghouls which kinda let you have everything.

I kinda agree with them because their general is still reasonably active and it doesnt need to be watered down with semi-grand strategy games.

This general though should do fine with games like:

Galactic Civ
Civilization
ES
EL
Stellaris
SoaSE
SotS
MoO
MoM
Age of Wonders
Star Ruler
Stardrive
Fallen Enchantress
Warlock
Heroes of Might and Magic

AI War is on the borderline.

I feel games like this is too thin in the segment we look for in games for this thread:
Age of Empires

Rise of Nations

Like everything takes years to build, so I need to buy some production buildings. But to do that I need to put down an industrial zone. But to do that I need more pop. But I'm out of amenities. But even if I fucking had the ability to buy it, I wouldn't be able to afford it because everything is so expensive and the magical respawning barbarian camps always guarantees you won't be able to run a decent trade empire unless you have cities on every 3 tiles on the map.

Speaking as a /domg/ regular, it has much to do with the fact that we're pretty dedicated, and that /domg/ sort of is a community in a way a lot of other generals aren't. You know the topics, the jokes, the players, and the rough situation in games that are currently going on.
Plus, /domg/ is constantly playing long-running multiplayer games, and a significant amount of diplomacy/arguing/banter about the games goes on in the thread. So there's usually something to talk about.

>>163384519
Build lots of commercial districts. That will solve your money problems.

Barbarians are your friends. You can send your military units out into the hinterlands to hunt them for XP. This way, they won't cause real problems for you.

Generally speaking, cities can go a little closer to each other than in Civ 5, because of overlap bonuses (which may or may not have been removed in the last patch).

Don't go up to your district cap immediately. Just get a commercial district, then industrial, then entertainment. You don't need a lot of campuses or theaters. (ports are nice but obviously they don't apply to every city)

Don't aim for maximum population. Most of your city's usefulness comes from districts, and people just work the land. Obviously you'll want to be growing generally, but more people = more unhappiness. You can't cure it without high-end entertainment districts.

ABC - Always Be Conquering (except city states; they're awesome)

Multiplayer is a little different, but yes in general only one player can win. The first player to achieve a victory condition wins, and everyone else loses.

Diplomacy is pretty weird, and looking at the designer's blog it seems he had some intentions that might have been good but weren't communicated to the player. You will be denounced if the AI wants to declare a formal war or is unhappy with you. Keep in mind that even if they 'like' you their goal is to win, and the best way to do that is often to conquer someone with a weak military.

Not really, no.

Production is good. Factories give AoE production. Therefore, having cities in ranges of a lot of factories at once is good.

You don't need a degree in anything other than kindergarden logic to figure that one out.

The real question is how do you get lategame production now. And on a side note, that one change really wrecked Japan. This was one thing it was good at.

I'm a little annoyed that most strategies game try to develop their own mythos. Because unless I have heroes like in Starcraft or Endless Legend, I ultimately don't care whether they live or not, since I mostly play skirmishes.
It's annoying how niché strategy is, it means almost no licensed strategy game. And the few we get are usually very bad.
Battle for Middle Earth 2 and Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds being the only exceptions that come to mind, but Galactic Battlegrounds is pretty much an AoE2 mod, so it's bound to be at least decent.

It depends a lot on they way you play and on which difficulty.
I for a period of time had very little knowledge of how air combat and info era units functioned together because most of my games ended around the renaissance-industrial.
Some victory conditions require the game to last until the info era, like science and diplo, but others like domination can be achieved much earlier.

The tooltip explicitly says that factory affects every city in the 6 tile range. Nothing in the game indicated or suggested the bonus doesn't stack. You can't make yourself more clear than that.

Are there any games like Civ that doesn't take an eternity to build up an army?
>>
>>163392325
It's a scandinavian game, and here in scandinavia we dont care for "rules" of not hurting children in virtual entertainment.

In Denmark, jokes about kids and death together is very normal. In Sweden they dont care for much of it anyway and just do what they want without the social stigma it would get everywhere else.
In Norway we dont have any good form of entertainment in general except for satanic black metal and church burning.

Well it was compelling enough for me to keep retrying every time I failed so I guess I was enjoying it. Lots of different victory paths is neat too, so I think I'll be starting a new campaign after Christmas aiming for a different victory.

>>163395049
No see I was the same way. Most of my early games ended before modern era, because I was so high-centered on conquest and ended up burning out really early on. I was talking about this game I won though, where I actually got into the information age and won the game via culture victory.

Sword of the Stars I and II let you create pretty big maps, but they are pure war focused games. Star Ruler 2 can become really big too, but it looks kinda ugly. It's a shame SR2 didnt end up looking like it did in the beta.

The new Master of Orion is pretty ok if you have never played a 4x game before. Very streamlined, very basic. It feels pretty polished and has great production value.

That being said the game feels devoid of any depth. Not really anything for more than a couple of playthroughs imho.

This is the new trend between strategy games, Civ 5 was exactly like that. Perfectly polished,, piss easy games trying to pull in the facebook farmville crowd.

Thats more because the AI is even more retarded and manages empires like it would manage your sectors. There was a neutral gnoll city in the green circle.
Conquered it with sprites.
It got wiped out by giant spiders belonging to the neutral faction though.

Now a Dark Elf outpost has appeared in the middle of the island.
There are two parallel planes in Master of Magic, Arcanus and Myrror, you can travel between them through Towers of Wizardry that are scattered around the world, or through certain spells so one of the two Myrran wizards planeshifted over a settler to Arcanus.

>>
Stupid question time.
Is it considered standard in RTS to have different economical buildings?
I mean, in Act of War, 8-Bits Armies, Starcraft and the Tiberium serie, the economical buildings are limited, you only get one, and it's just a ressource depot.

In Supreme Commander, the others Command and Conquer games (especially Generals), Age of Empires and Cossacks, you at least get a market to exchange ressources, or even alternative ressources generation (like in SupCom with the Mass Generator or Ages of Empires 3 with the plantation).
So what's the rule of thumb? Are ressources limited just to avoid players turtling?
>>
>>163416929
What did you expect from a space station that could destroy planets with a single blast?
>>
>>163420290
Well, a little timer before you can blow the station up. There's one before you can blow up the planet, so why not one for the bases too?

>>
Is anyone else getting a bug when they try to load up Civ 6 where the "Preparing to launch game" window on steam keeps closing and opening up again indefinitely?

>>
>>163420178
If you're going for one resource you need to have better combat mechanics usually with more micro and unit abilities.

If you're going to have multiple resources then combat is generally more about unit production and types rather than unit abilities.

I don't think there is a standard. and both can work really well. In star craft despite two resources they do a good job of balancing their respective powers and the focus is more on engaging in combat once the economy is rolling.

In Age of empires you need to keep as much focus on your empire as you do your army and often times the battle is won not by swords but by barracks.
>>
>>163420835
That makes sense, I guess.
Command and Conquer Generals is just an exception.
>>
>>163420178
Markets weren't a deal until seperate resources were implemented. I think Age of Empires was the first game to feature them.
Warcraft had gold and wood before then but Blizzard in its infinite wisdom didn't bother to change it.

Other games like Red Alert just had one resource and didn't need them.
>>
>red alert 3's expansion content can't be used in multiplayer

???
>>
>>163421250
I don't mean just markets, but also buildings that generates (infinite) ressources. As opposed to just gathering them at specific spot.
Like the relics in Age of Empires 2 or the ranch in Galactic Battleground.

Yeah. It's better to have small fleet that can rotate between the frontline and the planets than a big one.
The supplies system makes it impossible for doomstacks to be viable, the AI will (accidentally) use guerilla warfare and spam small fleet that will capture your planets and majorly fuck up your supplies and trade lines.

>>

The endless games are great 4x games with great lore, fun mechanics, and fucking 10/10 ambient soundtracks.
They're biggest fault though is that the combat tends to be rather meh in all of their 4x games so far. I mean, it gets the job done and there's meaningful decisions to be had, but its no dominions tier combat setup. Having said that, it's no Stellaris either.

If you're willing to overlook the combat however, endless space is a great game.

To be honest, I feel the same. Instead of selling 8 Bit Armies and then releasing the different settings as DLCs (Hordes and Invasion), they were all released as independent games, which boosts the cost to buy them.

So yeah, if you have all the games, you have have aliens from the future fighting undead while being supported by a contemporary Rebel Army, but it's too expensive and too meager of a consolation. Not to mention the game is pretty shallow, there's no real economy (because there's only one ressource) and since ressources are finite and extremely limited, you're forced to be extremely aggressive to seize the advantage quickly.

Just watch this picture. My army is the rebel army from 8 Bit Army. My ally (red) is the undead from 8 Bit Hordes. The enemy (green) is the cranoid from 8 Bit Invasion.
And it's decently balanced between them, with minor gameplay differences.

But the prices to get them all is a bit too expensive, especially given that games are pretty shorts.
I played 8 Bit Invasion 39 minutes so far, and I already played 3 games. Compare that to Supreme Commander where a basic game usually lasts 45 minutes, and do the math.

Then he already had troops there and saw my cities with not nearly enough longbowmen and decided to move over even more troops I guess.

Not really. Since the factions can stack in any game, there's no real difference between them. Except between the campaigns, but given the lack of personality, I can't really give a fuck about what happens. There's no strong scenario, and all the briefings are written. 8 Bit Invasion does offer a multiverse invasion who looks like a freeform campaign (like Rise of Legends, I loved that game), I'll have to check it out later.

Well, that's a bit of a shame, but the freeform campaign is limited to the futuristic races.

Also, it's a bit confusing, but you can't garrison in buildings, and vehicles don't have a rear armor plating or anything. It's really straightforward, no tricks.
I hereby declare that the 8 Bit games are a decent introduction to RTS, but won't satisfy people who already have some experience into it.

she wins

There are two victory conditions in Master of Magic.
Defeating all the enemy wizards or casting the spell of mastery.

She probably dominates most of the plane of Myrror and has it filled out with Dark Elves.
Dark Elves give 1 power per population which is probably why she has been able to research the spell of mastery already.
She also claimed 1 island on my plane and filled it with dark elves.
Sssra has Suppress magic which I think may stop her from successfully casting it, but spells with higher casting cost are less prone to be dispelled, and spell of mastery is the one with the highest casting cost.

Endless legend is pretty good. Like its predecessor endless space, its major flaw is that its combat is sub-par. However, if you can overlook that its a really nice treat.

DLC's aren't mandatory I'd say but each of the major ones add a shit ton of content to the game, their pattern being they add a mechanic to the game, and then a faction that's really good at exploiting that mechanic and basically embodies it.

The factions themselves are EL's greatest asset, as you've basically got the best cast out of any fantasy game ever made.
>Middle-ages-style space marines that can declare a strategic resource to be holy, gaining special bonuses from equipment made from it and the ability to teleport between their cities (this is considered one of the blander factions, by the way)
>Necrotic parasitic insects that rely on killing armies to feed their fast-expanding "cities" that can raise and demolish armies in a single turn if you let them get out of control.
>Robo-vampires that live off of dust (the "gold" of the endless games) or draining life from actual beings. Very good at making loads of dosh.
>Cultists that can convert minor factions to their side all around the map, but can only have ONE city ever in the game.

And that's just the vanilla game, the DLC's add three more factions which are equally interesting.

As for the AI, from my experience they act pretty reasonably (hey what are you doing in my territory get the fuck out) and each faction will act in accord to its interests. A lot of people talk about the final difficulty being quite challenging, so there's definitely room for gitting gud (which I am terrible at).

Endless Legend is a lot of fun.

All of the factions plays very differently for good replayability and it also let's you create your own factions with very gameplay changing traits.

The AI aint super good, but it's good enough.
It's a lot better than Civ's AI which is just bananas all the time.

Diplomacy is better, tech is better, everything is better tbqh.

PS. The AI cheats a lot on high difficulties like impossible and endless.

I recommend getting all of the expansions, especially the Shifters and Shadows because of cool winter effects and espionage, but all of the expansions adds cool new stuff liker control over water for influence points etc..

It's over once Kali finishes her casting of spell of mastery I think.

Maybe one of the other wizards with sorcery attempts to spell blast it. Unlikely to succeed though.
There's also a 9% chance that it fails due to Ssras Suppress Magic. Even if it does, that'll just buy me some time before she casts it again.
I don't even know where her fortress is.
Maybe I can find it with earth lore though, and try to ship over all my elven lords to the nearest tower of wizardry(functions like gates between the planes) and snipe her in her fortress.
The Myrran races are more powerful though and I'm not sure how even a stack of my best units can hold up against hordes of dark elves. All dark elves have ranged magical attacks and I don't have a good way to deal with those.
With all Kalis power she probably has a bunch of powerful Fantastical Creatures in her capitol. I can see her heroes and she's only got one though so that's good. And she has 4 nature, 4 sorcery, 5 death books so she's not guaranteed to get any of the very rare summons.

Still haven't fought Tlaloc on my island.

I suggest playing the Wild Walkers or Vaulters as your first playthrough, then when you master the basics and suggested build orders for each of those, then try Necrophages if you really want something agressive or Morgawr and Forgotten for some really different and IMO more interestning ways to play.

Endless Legend is the only 4X game I can think of that really let's you play so diverse cast of factions.

The downside of playing Endless Legend is that it makes all other 4X games pale in comparison.

Maybe MoO2 and SotS are the only ones close to make you feel any difference between factions.
SoaSE only have difference in what abilites your capital ships got, then the rest is just different numbers and not so different playstyles.
Stellaris kinda only gives you different means of transportation because everyone can tech what weapons they want all the time and change gouverment midgame.

Sorry for mentioning this many of our threads, but I hope some developers that hang around here will see this.

I find it's D&D combat pretty good, but it has some minor bugs. Can't remember what it was again since it doesnt happen all the time but it has to do with the initiative/attack order of some units, but its no big problem.

Auto resolve calculates the outcome in a specific manner which is ok IF you know how it calculates it.
How it does it is explained in a forum somewhere and I cant find it at the moment.

Manual combat is kinda fun. Especially with Necrophage's Parasitism and Forgotten's Predator's Mark. Battle positioning is really important if you use Mists with theyr adjecent attacks and if you fight against Rumbler's beam attacks.

You get a defense bonus if you're standing behind walls, but only the attacker gets to use First Strike so I wanted to ride out to meet his Elven Lords.

Didn't want to let him inside the town area, since that damages the city. Leading to pops dying and buildings being destroyed.

I found one of high men's big advantages was pikemen, they got an 8 unit stack while most other factions got a 6 unit spearmen unit. Really useful for "holding the line" at the city gate.

I forget, does Master of Magic spearmen units have a bonus against horseback units?

No spearmen are just a basic light infantry with no bonus vs cav. They all have 8 figures except for trolls who have 4 figures.

Halberdiers and Pikemen function like a heavier type of infantry.
A lot of cav have First Strike, while Pikemen and 3/10 Halberdiers have Negate First Strike so they function a bit as a counter vs cavalry.

Pikemen do have 8 figures as opposed to the standard 6 figure of Halberdiers though. Trolls have 4.

Sadly High Elf is not one of the 3 Halberdiers with negate first strike so I do better if I just ride out and meet them. If I were High Men I'd probably try to keep Pikemen for the gates.

Magic Immunity luckily doesn't cover Cracks Call
>>
>>163495759
Crack's Call just makes a big hole under the target, doesn't directly affect the target; gravity does. Seems legit.

A human player would have known to cast flight on the hero to patch that obvious vulnerability.

I also have Web.

Two caster heroes in my cap so I would be able to web him and cast cracks call on him twice.
Web has been very useful, delaying ranged attacks, stopping Elven Lords in their tracks and bringing down Nightmares and Pegasai.

Looking at Cecil's stats I notice and now remember that MoM had a magic item crafting system. That game was way ahead of it's time considering it came out a few years before Civilization 2.

Back then I wished Civ 2 (or 3) would have tactical combat maps like MoM, never happened.

Yeah the crafting system is pretty good imo.
A bit disappointed that aow2 shadow magic didn't have a better one. More item slots there though.
You could craft different enchantments on to your items depending on your spellbooks.

In my last game I had two Retorts that made item crafting cheaper so I went all out with it: >>163321901

And so satisfying. I just destroyed an entire army with one spell.
I'm transporting over troops and Merlins ship that was carrying a sizeable army attacked into me and I brought his ship down with one full power lightning bolt before he could react.

Civ V complete
Stellaris

What should I buy this sale?
>>
>>163497869
EL DLC if you havent.
They add so fucking much to the game.
>>
92% off Civ V Complete.

I've only played Civ II and Civ III Complete

Is this a no brainer?

Kali just got way too much power.
Dark Elves, won the war on myrror and even managed to steal an island on arcanus with her planeshifting waterwalking settlers.

Ah well. I enjoyed the playthrough, though I could never play as anything but High Men. Loved those pikemen and paladins.

I went from civ2 to civ5 vanilla and I enjoyed it for trying to stop me from spamming cities everywhere.
bnw improves the game a lot imo.

Does getting 80 kerjillion free ressurected meme units and hitting autoresolve still work? The one time I played necrophage back in the day I was basically unstoppable once I had unlocked the worm thing.

Where the fuck are the modding tools though? What do they gain by delaying the toolkit? Are they afraid someone else will make a more in-depth, more creative and more balanced Genghis or Isabella before they can release the unbalanced version for five quid?

Genghis or Attila should have the option to have cities that move 1 tile / turn maximum and take a turn to settle that work only in 2 radius or something, it'd be a great 'different' playstyle
