It's stupid most times, but it's great if it works in your favor. In one of the major boss battles, the enemies only use Charm to make your units fight each other. Getting Charm restricted makes the battle an Exp farm to bring all your lower units up to speed VERY quickly.

It works both ways, for you and enemies. You can pretty much manipulate the Laws to a neutral/favorable outcomeor change them once you get cards to do so. My mistake was that I didn't check Laws before starting. It can creep up on you. I actually like Awakening's story. It's not fantastic, but it's not bad by any means. The only part I didn't like is Valm because it kind of kills momentum.
People tend blow Robin's involvement way out of proportion as well.

You know what makes me sad about Awakening? Chrom's lack of character development. I really like Chrom, but he's stuck in my least favorite Fire Emblem. He's cool, sounds cool and his design (aside from his stupid fucking no sleeve arm and boots) is pretty cool.

But his character development is squandered for le tactical man. Chrom was at his best during the brief moments where he questions if what he was doing was right. He compared himself to his tyrannical father and had insecurities and worried he may become the same way. Where the hell did that all go? Dropped off, some of it shoved into Walharts optional recruitment xenologue for some reason. I really wanted to see what Chrom was meant to be. But we got scraps of a good character. Now he's a glorified joke thanks to le funny smash chink. I really fucking hate Robin. Fuck Robin.

Given that he had no idea that a goody two shoes prince existed and would oppose Walhat or that said prince and his personal army would be able to defeat said Conqueror his decision was the one that would prolong the life of his sister the most.
