It you have no boost you are literally dead in the water and can't evade at all.

Boost regenerates far too slowly.

It honestly feels like this new fm just caters to whoever has the most guns and armor.
>>
>>163164335
I thought boost was supposedly useless in the new flight model? At least that's what some of the early feedback said.
>>
>>163163884
Don't lie to him, you have to maintain top-of-the-line status with your PC, get at minimum 2 joysticks and not cheap ones, get 4-6 monitors in an array, install a hydraulic flight training chair, buy thousands of dollars worth of ships, then have hired help to maintain you, your home and your lifestyle. The time investment in spending all your time immersed in simulating the purchases of spacecraft could also itself be considered a loss of money, really.

postan again, ok senpai i need help.

I have the science/hospital/hangar pods for Endeavor. Maybe park it border of safezone, use it hospital, or get the telescope ingame.

Since it will be easy to replace and sturdy as fuck, Im planning to fuck around with the Terrapin at the beginning, maybe carry it inside Endeavor along with a HullA.

Question is; Should I keep the Banu Jewman, or ccu it into a Carrack or Crucible after its price hike? or just sell it for monies?

The rest could be built with some cheap wood and spraypaint. The Wire tubing is cheap as fuck, the monitor/headphones/PC are kind of a given.

Anon, thats the best part of all.

Its a piece of shit Saitek X-52. Its a garbage stick. Imagine paying out the ass for a sim pit but then not spending any money on your main input peripheral.
>>
>>163165763
There are people who use these speculative price increases to trade ships for money.

>Stock 50+ $0 Redeemer to Merchantman CCUs.
>wait for price increase to $350
>Buy 50 Redeemers at $250
>CCU to Merchantman
>CCU to Carrack/Crucible/Phoenix
>Sell Carracks for $300

Or

It's a pirate skin.
It will be time limited.
You will need to beat pirate swarm to gain the ability to buy it.

The Glaive will be limited to 1,500, and you will also need to beat vanduul swarm again in order to buy it.

It also does that in 2.5, but the rate is so low that the regeneration offsets it. It's not intentional and will be fixed.

It's really not that bad once you know where everything is. Less hallways than the Starfarer at least. There's only one access to the command pod on the top level.

An anon in the previous thread asked about info on gettin gud. Not only is this retro gaming gold, it will make you better at any dogfighting combat game.

SC doesn't have energy like airplanes, but the terms and ideas in this video are sound. You will be a better fighter having watched this.

Skip the parts with the old buddy and just watch Mr. Chesthair. Skipping the old buddy and playing at 125% takes a little over 20 minutes.

Grenades are really wonky, in that webm I tried to throw the grenade over the crate but somehow my character had a very weak arm and the grenade bounced off it.

The main issue I have with this patch is being shot at with energy rifles. If someone shoots at you with one you're dead not because he has good aim but because the game essentially freezes. At least for me, that is.

Just because you don't understand being inside or outside someone's turning circle, defensive thinking like leaving a fight you don't have an advantage in, aspect angle (heat seekers only lock on from the rear), using the glare in AC maps to hide your position, attacking from your opponents rear, or anything else related to this doesn't mean you need to let everyone else on the board know how little you know.

Your shit was really on point. I'll have to check out those graphs. It was just uncanny someone writing about dogfighting in SC in a way that actually read like they had played the game and had any idea what they were talking about.

It's noway near as bad as it was before the merger, but almost everyone here who posts about the flight model has probably touched Arena Commander once or twice in their lives.

I fucking suck at SC at the moment, but hopefully with this new flight model refactor I can learn my way back into the leaderboards.

They did mention that weight affects speed several times in the past (but the system calculating that dynamically was removed after a single patch because it was broken as fuck). Might be safe to assume that a fully loaded Titan will drop to those speeds as well.

It's alpha, and might not even come out at all. You're not buying the game, you're throwing money away with the added bonus that you might get a game at some point in the future. Do not spend more money than you can afford to throw away with this risk in mind.
The discount doesn't come with the option to get the single player campaign which is apparently supposed to come out sooner.
If you do want the single player campaign, the $60 starter pack of SC and S42 is better "value".
There's not that much content in the game already, still very much alpha. Check the feature list:
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/feature-list
Also the live version is literally broken right now and won't be fixed until the next patch comes out, which is planned for the 22nd:

The discounts won't be around forever, but saving $10 on something you end up hating after a hasty decision is way worse than paying $10 more for something you think you'll like after you think about it for a while. I think they'll be available until boxing day or something. Not sure.
You don't need a joystick to enjoy it either if that's what you're asking, it's relatively accessible, but you just need to spend some time learning what the keybinds all do, or the important ones anyway.
You can ALWAYS WAIT FOR RELEASE.
It'll be more expensive but you'll know exactly what you're getting.

Bonus, have an image of the official background art for the new FPS game mode next to a master chief figurine.

It feels like ED and SC are extremes on two different sides.

ED released too early with too few features and SC get's packed with too many features to make it able to be released within a justifiable time.

3.0 will be the first iteration of of a "released" Star Citizen it seems, then 4.X patches will just add features like mining, science, more planets etc...

The best thing to do is to go into hibernation from anything about SC and wait til 3.0 is released and see how SQ42, Star Marine, AC and Trading ends up being.

Then we can have some fun while waiting on the 4.X patches.

I feel like in any kind of controlled jump into zero G (ie wherever the character leaves the ground of his own accord OR whenever there is any surface within reach after leaving ground), they should be able to self-right into an actual flying position without all that exposed surface area. If you get bumped off the ground by something not of your doing, only then should you be seen floating by at standing position.

It's a balance between everyone running around being bulletsponges (ruins "tactical" gameplay) and people straight-up dying too easily.

You can still OHK in SM with the energy sniper and shotgun.

The difference between dying from one shot to the head from one of these weapons and dying from a 3-shot burst to the head from a gun like the P4AR is negligible.

Shame that that's exactly what the game is like right now.

Rifles have way too much divergence from what I've played for headshots to be viable, so your only real option is to aim for the chest, and people certainly are bullet sponges in that respect.

Even in the glorious Imperium of Man demi-humans like Momiji would be welcomed. Since they are demihuman and just have weird ears and a fluffy tail. The Tevarin bird people are clearly xenos and need to be purged.

2.6.0k dropped

Be advised that, in order to receive new lobby invites, you will need to restart the client after every match.
Star Marine Leaderboards are not in-game this build.
Our planned Electronic Access improvements for sequential map loading (“mega map”) are not in this build.
Scan is not complete, please refrain from using it (“Tab” key on default keybindings).
Missile rebalance is ongoing.
Flight Balance Changes to include Acceleration, Afterburner, Boost, Fuel Rates, and Jerk are ongoing.
Workaround for Front End UI Issues: Either use the old UI (ui_frontend.startup_mode = 0) OR on the main menu hit the “Escape” key and then “Go To Hangar”. Once loaded into the Hangar, you can use the Elevator to connect to Crusader or ArcCorp

Updates

Missiles have received some additional tweaks, so they should now inherit velocity.

Some additional tweaks to the flight model have been made.
We have tweaked the acceleration rates/peaks to be more like previous releases, whilst maintaining the lower 2.6.0 SCM values.
Using strafe during normal flight, you should only get a change in velocity of +/- SCM max velocity, rather than +/- Afterburner max velocity.
Your strafe velocity range is no longer higher when using afterburner.
If you are flying over SCM max speed and switch into decoupled mode, strafe will allow you to decelerate, but not accelerate.
Fixed a number of issues with the new frontend UI.
These include a number of lobby crashes and numerous graphical issues.
Fixed a number of client and server crashes in Star Marine, Crusader and Arena Commander.

Kilrathi are Kzin expies, which take the most asshole qualities of felines and attach them a society of warmongers. The only vaguely sexual rendition was the short story about an human and a sapient female kzin being trapped in a ancient alien zoo. They only cuddled, and it wasn't consentual for the human.

The best thing to do to cure jousting is slow down. The slower speed in 2.6 is making everyone use up their AB thinking speed will save them, when all they are really doing is making really large arcs as they cut back and forth, constantly overshooting their target. It's not a BnZ, it's a weak rolling scissors that both sides usually try to win with more speed when the correct solution is less speed.

You are not flying an airplane (even though it kinda feels like it), you will not stall, you can slow down to not only cut a much smaller corner, but make your weapons easier to use and your ship will be harder to hit since you are turning a super tight corner.

Each ship has a best directional vector and thrust capability, except Avenger which is roughly equal in pitch and yaw. Each ship also has a best corner speed in IFCS. This means that each ship has a best way to corner and a speed that makes that circle small as possible. Most ships are only 60-75% throttle for their best corner speed, the track is the best place to figure this speed out. The maximum speed that IFCS can keep your nose locked without drifting is your best corner speed.

The strongest offense is to appear weak and draw your opponent in to turn the tables. I like to start with a slow lazy turn towards someone, hoping they will turn towards me. Hornetfags usually fall for this. As soon as I am in their range and they start shooting, I throttle up to corner and tighten my turn to get behind them. Almost always, the other ship is too fast and I get plenty of free shots while they make a big circle turning around in front of me. It's hard to stay behind someone, because of how easy it is to jink out of someone's guns, but you can use Rope-a-Dope to draw people in and pot shot them repeatedly.

I believe the Dicta Boelcke applies to this game and if you treat it like it has nuance, you can be rewarded.

Spending $500 a year on a hobby is nothing, literally everyone with money and a hobby does that. Just because you are biased against vidya or SC specifically does not make spending money on ones hobby wrong.

You probably think richfags with $50000 boats they use twice a year or or normies with 80 inch $3000 TVs is fine. But how dare someone spend significant money on vidya thats socially unacceptable. You probably think fratboys who spend a third of their income on weed and beer is fine. Or hoodrats spending all their welfare money on sneakers is just their culture, but the minute its a geek dropping a couple grand on something geeky there's a problem. If you havent spent 2k on games and gaming related stuff, you are not a nerd, you are a normie. Get out.

I agree, they don't honestly need to market the game any more for a good couple of years.
They've already hit all the stretchgoals they needed to hit and gone way past that.
The game has already paid for itself and made a ton of profit.
>>
>>163236254
>Muh digital content isn't real/
It takes more time and effort to create a digitial speedboat than a real speedboat.

Just because you cannot take the digital speedboat out into the physical world does not mean it does not exist.
>>
>>163235958
I would not question spending money on video games as a hobby, but it starts to get a little hairy when the its x amount of money on one title that has not been released or might not be supported indefinitely.
Not that I am in doubt of SC staying power. I just think on /principal/ its is probably not wise to invest quite so much unless you either get the product in hand right there or there is some kind insurance of accountability.
>>
>>163236340
How much of that 2k you've spent is actually in game now? I feel you're probably someone with a lot of disposable income. But telling people that spending thousands of dollars on one game is okay is just a sign of your complete lack of self awareness.
>>
>>163236570
>Just because you cannot take the digital speedboat out into the physical world does not mean it does not exist.

Obviously you missed the point. You don't own that 500 dollar ship. CIG does. Just like if Steam were to close down tomorrow millions of PC gamers would lose their games.

$2000 is literally nothing to someone who has an even decent job, that is the literal definition of disposable income. How you dispose of your income is purely a matter of preference.

Once someone smokes their bag of weed it is gone, drink their case of jack daniels or goes to that basketball game, contracts that hooker .People pay hundreds of dollars for experiences that last for a couple hours and are then over. People pay thousands of dollars for season tickets to their favorite sports teams or venues.

How is it unreasonable to pay a couple thousand for an experience that will last ten years or more, That I can access whenever I want, for however long I want at a stretch? That will retain my status and evolve on its own even when I am not there?

Virtual, Digital and alternate reality is just a different medium for delivering the same sort of experiences as people have been seeking and paying for since the dawn of entertainment, If you define lack of permanence as waste then all entertainment money is "wasted" all physical items are wasted because even if they endure eventually you die and can no longer make use of them. Nothing is permanent.
>>
>>163222230
You know, I find it kind of disgraceful that they're using pledge money for that.
>>
>>163237083
>Once someone smokes their bag of weed it is gone, drink their case of jack daniels or goes to that basketball game, contracts that hooker .People pay hundreds of dollars for experiences that last for a couple hours and are then over. People pay thousands of dollars for season tickets to their favorite sports teams or venues.

Those are finished products with a known outcome when you buy them. CIG hasn't finished SC yet, these people spent thousands on a promise.

Also digital content is not the same as physical content. This seems to be a reoccurring theme with SC fans that have spent thousands.
>>
>>163236714
>>163236946
I also feel obligated to point out that I did not spend $2000 to get $200 worth of products, I want SC to be as big and featured and ambitious as possible, and I put my money where my desires are, if everyone jsut bought the game for $35 if would be a much smaller, much less promising game than it is. Someone had to step up and fund the ambition, be the a small part of the patronage that allows art to happen. I and other like me are what let this game happen, my first pledge was not minimum it was a $120 freelancer that didn't even have concept art or stats, it was just a vague idea but as soon as a read the pitch for SC I knew this was a game I had been waiting a decade to play and I wanted to help make it happen, particularly given that there would be no MBA asshole running the show from above to ruin it
>>
>>163236060
Oh I have a job
>>
>>163237382
Well the original scope of the game was smaller. Then people just opened their wallets. You know a lot of people got refunds because the game changed so much. I hope SC does well, but the reckless funding by its fans is not healthy for the game.

the game has not changed, all the shit they plan now is the same stuff they pitched in NOV 2012, just bigger. go back and read the original stretch goals from 2 to 6 million, then read the original write ups and design docs again from the first couple months. The game has grown in scale but not in scope. PU was always going to be a thing and always going to be the main focus of the game. wide array of professions was always the plan.

What has grown is detail and depth of play. and the reason development got pushed out was a combination of that expansion and the need to build up a much larger team to get everything done.

Thing you are conflating my with another poster.
>How is it unreasonable to pay a couple thousand for an experience that will last ten years or more
Not unreasonable at all. I am totally on board the SC train and have spent an amount of money that is more then what I should have given my income. And I agree with your thoughts on physical items being just as not permanent as digital one.

But.

The real issue I have is that while I personally trust Roberts to be responsible and I don't think anything will go wrong, there is nothing really keeping CIG accountable in the long term. And that bugs me enough on the premise of it to keep me from investing anymore then I already have.
>>
>>163237635
It means digital content has value and people desire it, just because it was not a thing 15 years ago does not mean thats true today.

Is a digitally produced drawing not artwork?
Is a livestream not entertainment?

I am not paying for a real spaceship. I am paying for a digital spaceship, and my payment helps to make the world in which that digital spaceship will exist better.

People are obsessed with having legal control, I am not.

I trust that Chris is not a scam artist, I believe, absent physical proof or control that he will do his best to deliver the best game that he can deliver with the resources he has been granted.

If he fails, oh well, that was a risk we all took together in giving him a collective $130 million dollars. I can watch my $2000 drift away and get on with my life.

The potential payoff of "the best damned space sim ever" is worth that risk to me. I understood from day one that it was a risk and when it looked shaky rather than cutting bait I doubled down, because from everything I see him say and do I trust that he is an autisitc nerd trying to make the holy grail of nerd-dom and I want to help.

I also believe as an author/artist myself that strict controls and oversight and intrusive accounting has a stifling effect on creativity and productivity. If you want someone to produce something beautiful from their own mind you cannot lean over their should nitpicking all the time, this kills the creative process. Even if you paid for the sculpture you have to fuck off and let the sculptor be while it is being made.

An opinion is not a fact no matter how many times you state it.

Your perspective tells you that $2000 is an enormous sum of money that should be spent on socially acceptable things. My perspective tells me that $2000 is an expendable sum of money that can be risked on a dream. Neither of us is wrong in our own context we only become wrong when we attempt to force our opinion into someone elses context.

I would be wrong to demand that you a poorfag spends $2000 on a game so that my dream will have more funding.

You are wrong to demand that I live according to your monetary ideals and spend money only on essentials. Just because you would not do a thing, does not make that thing wrong or stupid or irrational. Motivation is not objective and you are not the arbiter of rationality.

It's not the monitor really that's the issue.
The monitor is chump change in comparison the salaries of all the people for all the time it took to make those videos.

Now, I wouldn't have a problem if the livestream was actually informative, but it really didn't answer many questions or provide anything new and the production value was quite terrible.

Programmer salaries start from $21.37 an hour going all the way up to $62.89 an hour if they're top of the line.
If you disrupt 5 programmers for an hour, that's going to cost over a 100$ to the company minimum and you can easily buy a new monitor for that assuming their salaries were running.

Ultimately, the entire livestream was a trainwreck that should just have been skipped altogether.

>>
>>163242667
>you don't necessarily want to be seen fucking around on screen when the community is starved for content.

They're so transparent we also get to see how incompetent they can be.

Because this game was crowd funded and continues to accept money from its fans then everyone feels any amount of money that isn't maximized is entitled to feel that way.

I still don't understand why they keep the store open. They've hit every goal, its like throwing more water into an ocean. They could probably trash an entire studio and be okay because of how much petty cash they have on hand due to the richfags that support CIG.
>>
>>163242171
And I actually will get to play a finished product.
You are making projections which have no basis in fact. Game development takes time, anyone who has even a rudimentary understanding of software production knows this. Four years is not a long time for the development of a top of the line game. The original timeline was unrealistically short and again, if your understood anything about development at the time you would have known that. I knew that the game was not going to be out in 2014, I still don't know when it will be finished, but that is not critical. The whole point of crowdfunding was to remove artificially imposed conditions and deadlines. That literally where this all started, Chris's previous titles suffered from external timetable forcing cuts to content and features.
>>
>>163242917
>Chris's previous titles suffered from external timetable forcing cuts to content and features.

Because the producers that invested money in the game wanted the game to be finished. Just like what the SC players are saying now. Except Chris has complete control and can take however long he wants.

>Four years is not a long time for the development of a top of the line game.

4 years is a long fucking time. You won't see a complete game for another year, possibly 2. So over half a decade for a space flight game. That's sad.
>>
>>163242837
Chris said years ago that all the money pledged before launch would go directly to development and cost of operation stuff like servers and no profit would be taken from it. On that condition I'm fine with the store staying until launch. If it goes away funding becomes fixed and the game becomes more closed off to new backers. Nothing compels people to buy more than the basic game and anything people want to throw into the "dev and upkeep" fund should be welcomed not sneered at. The less CIG feel pressured to monetize the actual game post launch the better. I don't want to see loot crates and premium cosmetic stuff. I want an actual one time payment for all content game, not a "pay at the gate and then pay for the rides" situation.

This is a good thing, this mean we will get the game he has in his head instead of however much he can get done before the produce forces him to publish in time for the christmas shopping season.

>4 years is a long fucking time. You won't see a complete game for another year, possibly 2. So over half a decade for a space flight game. That's sad.

No it isn't, we've been over this many many times.

Triple A games take a bare minimum of 5 years to make, SC has been in actual development for three years, because the first was spent building studios and acquiring talent. In addition to that there were several major setback which slowed development such as the Illfonic mess.

On top of that SC is the single largest and most ambitious gaming project ever bar none.

Start complaining if we are not in beta two years from today, that will be the point where we have entered "unreasonable dev timeline" territory for this title.

>4 years and the biggest ship we have is the Caterpillar/Starfarer

How the fuck are they suppose to get all these ships done in any resonable timeframe? Half the ships ingame need to be remade, 90% of all ships don't fully work yet and are missing the majority of features/animations.

I don't, I was just pointing out that there is no way they'll get all the ships done in even twice the development time if they go at the current speed.

And you tried to use the Idris and Bengal (Neither of which is done yet anyhow) as some kind of argument when we haven't even had the chance to see them ingame for ourselves.
>>
>>163251416

Except you're hinging whether something is complete on being able to play with it in-game as proof that it's done.
The Idris is a key ship in SQ42 and has been shown in-engine in various ways. It is expected that CIG will save themselves the ball-ache of releasing everything to the playerbase to test and give feedback on every time they make progress on it because that in itself will drag out development time.
Once the pipelines all merge and they can focus on ships, you'll see an increase in speed. Basic game development shit.

Let's talk space ship combat.

No, I don't mean dog fighting techniques or weapon balance.

Right now, when a ship gets hit too much, it just turns into little flakes of debri, skitters around a bit and then despawns.

What SHOULD happen though, to ships big or small? I get the impression that larger ships will remain as a wreckage for quite some time, to be picked clean and whatnot, but for how long? If you're in the cockpit of an larger ship, and it's hull reaches 0, should you just die instantly like it is now? Should smaller ships still just explode? Has anyone read anything about what the future holds in this regard?

Physically based damage of some kind (angled armour calcs were dropped), armour penetration (better than we have now) and internal component damage is apparently still going to be a thing, so a ship should only explode like a mini-nuke if you shit on its powerplant enough, or fuck up its cooling until it goes critical, or something like that.

Right now it's just a case of each chunk of a hull having some HP, and they either snap off or kill you when they reach 0 hp. Armour is a flat damage modifier applied to the different damage types and damage numbers which are associated with a projectile.

Destroyed/abandoned ships will still despawn after a while, the server will register that some combat has taken place, and increase the likelihood of someone coming across a generated wreck in the area like the starfarer dead hulls we've seen already.

Making every destroyed chunk of a ship a lootable object would clutter up the server horribly and is never going to happen.
>>
>>163255063
But say I have a squadron of fighters being followed by a reclaimer or some such, how long should I have to pull resources from that chunk of gemini before it despawns?

Personally, I think a ship should only despawn after everyone's left visual range, + 10 minutes, or some other LOD based timer modifer.
>>
>>163255063
I don't think capital ships or any sufficiently large ship should ever despawn.

Easy solution is have the server mark the co-ordinates where the ship was destroyed.
When a player comes within proximity of said co-ordinates, have the wreck spawn.

Shouldn't be too server intensive a system.

>>163255351
You can ricochet personal weapon rounds off the bottom of a Hoplite in free flight. I've seen it happen.

>>163255560
Who knows, honestly, it feels like they're changing stuff randomly at this stage and hoping to luck out on a system that works
>>
>>163255560
It was too hard and people with actual skill were dominating AC. The FM is being dumbed down to make the game "more accessible" for whiny retards that don't want to learn a game. The EVA model used to be challenging and very rewarding to get right, now it's the simplest, most fake shit possible. Ship combat is easier, eva is easy, and SM is no skill, bullet sponge easy.

Their design criteria is simple. Keep dumbing it down until the sales level off, then call it "Newtonian."
>>
>>163255929

The flight model and combat model have gone and will go through multiple changes constantly throughout the game development. Provide feedback to CIG with recommendations.
>>
>>163256093
Oh I definitely have. I made sure I was heard after the EVA change. I got told by Will that they decided that EVA should be easy enough that new players shouldn't be frustrated by it. I replied that it wasn't fun, immersive, or real now and didn't get a dev response to that.

Their priority is not "bdsse" like all the barking seals would have you believe. They are to make the game as casual as they can while still keeping the pretense of "real physics."
>>
>>163255929
>The EVA model used to be challenging and very rewarding to get right
lol are you talking current or 2.6? I do agree that pre-2.5 was better with having to control momentum and I hope that returns but everything we see in 2.6 looks tighter, smoother, and all around just better. to make it perfect all they have to do is remove the IFCS-like stabilization and make EVA always act like decoupled mode.
>>
>>163256325

I'm not surprised to be honest. Shit and janky mechanics don't automatically make a game good because they're difficult to get used to.

I fucking love the ARMA games but their movement mechanics and engine are absolutely atrocious. Fluidity isn't inherently bad just because it's easier for people to pick up and play.
Not entirely sure the argument of "some guy spent days slowly getting used to this horrendous system of flying so he can gank new-starts, you're not allowed to take that away from him" is ever going to be particularly persuasive for a dev trying to make a game they want everyone to enjoy.
>>
>>163256420
no, no like early 2.0 EVA, before it had automatic space friction.

>>163256495
that's what I'm referring too, the auto-momentum kill. I think they treat it as a function of suit thrusters, not drag.
>>
>>163256573
The EVA space friction is currently a bug that will be fixed sometime in the future. They mentioned that in the Prowler QA.
>>
>>163256476
I'm not against having good controls. I'm against bad design choices like space friction being used as a gameplay crutch instead of a control design methodology that allows the player to experience the game on their terms. I'm not against new players not being frustrated, I'm against game design that puts casual accessibility over challenge and reward instead of targeting both. As easily as they created space friction, they could have easily given the suit an autopilot or some other extreme assist for new players and left the full system for experienced players. Instead the whole system got gimped and now eva is an afterthought instead of a gameplay element that allows growth and rewards experience.
>>
>>163256840
you're referring to the fact that you stop almost immediately when you stop moving? that's a bug? I have to say I find that a bit difficult to believe, it functions smoothly like an intentional mechanic, if a bad one. it even plays well with suit boost, taking slightly longer to slow down.
>>
>>163256840
It was a feature when they used it to make EVA easier.
>>
>>163256956
In the old system, you didn't stop unless you counter thrust. It was all decoupled newtonian momentum and you actually felt like you were in space. It was honestly my favorite part of the early game that they killed.

Cruise being removed / changed was just because of how broken it was.

SCM speeds are a result of some ships approaching stupid speeds baseline, to the point where combat just becomes a twitch battle of strafing in any direction at the drop of a hat.

I'm actually having fun with the flight changes. The dogfighting is a lot less jousty.

I love dogfighting in the Avenger Titan, Sabre and Hornet.

Gladius and Cutlass has too little damage output to be able to kill.
The problem with Gladius for me was low DPS, but that may be because I used the stock loadout.
Cutlass got too low DPS stock and turns way to slow to be able to deal consistent damage on target.

I forgot to mention, the ship is still garbage in any other imaginable way as well. If you lose one of the engines (which happens rather easily, considering that fighters can just fly circles around your fat ass and literally half of your hitbox is engines) IFCS starts shitting itself and you basically can't stop drifting in one direction. Regarding the weapons, you're forced to use a fixed weapon (gimbaled would be useless because the 4 S2 are fixed) and none of the S5 weapon pips really lign up properly. Maybe the S5 laser, but that only works for really small distances (sub 1km).
And somehow the community loves defending it because "is has long range", while completely forgetting that you'll need to fight whatever short range fighters get deployed where you arrive.

The Crusader entity sync code is being replaced, but otherwise its the same. That's why Arena Commander flies fine usually, because it's not using the Crusader entity code.

Star Marine is just it's own bullshit on top of the base network that is causing issues. Crusader entity logic will help bring Crusader framerate up from average 25-30 to 50-60, but that's only the average.

The problem was that in Crusader, all objects are being synced at all times to all clients, causing all clients to basically stop and wait for sync data for all entity objects, causing the lower framerate.

The stuttering and shit you see in Star Marine? That's not going to be fixed with the network change in 3.0

this and people seem to think SM or AC are anything other than test beds to accelerate the testing of game mechanics for use in the actual game. instead of testing these things in the horrible environment that is the universe, theyve made controlled environments that just happen to be arcadey game modes. it means more people are doing more things in that controlled environment quicker, for longer periods of time. it's data collection.

Because networking isn't the only thing that causes slowness and stuttering.

The collision systems in Star Marine are probably far more precise than they are in Arena Commander which is a huge performance hit, but there could be any number of things under the hood causing it, even something as simple as one developer fucking up and making grenades test against every player every frame for radius to damage instead of using a k-tree.

Without going into huge detail, imagine you have a school gymnasium. You put a bunch of students in the room and decide to shoot at one of them.

Which one did you hit? Well, you could go through and check every single one. "Did I hit this one? No. This one? Nope." This is a naive and amateur approach to collision testing, what most people start out with.

The next optimization we could try is to split the room up and draw a grid on the floor. Now when we shoot, we can draw a line of our bullet and only check for students that are standing in grids that our bullet went through. Wow that helped a bunch! We have way less students to check.

But this could also be weighted poorly. We could have 100 students in one of the grids and now we still have to check them all!

A K-Tree is just another way to split the room up that tries to evenly sort the squares, to optimize how many students we have to check if we killed

Thanks school shooter anon. That's really good to know, I'm just getting into this stuff myself and using basically the second method in my demo games.
>>
>>163291710

Precise at that scale.

It's possible that they haven't broken down the hitboxes enough and instead have boxes too large.

With first person shooter collision, you usually have a large box around the player, smaller cylinders for their limbs, and once you are in one of those, you test against every polygon of the mesh. With the high fidelity/detail of the meshes in use in Star Marine, it's possible they need to break this sub-tree down even more to reduce the number of polygons they test every bullet against.

Against a ship in AC that would be much easier, because the ships are generally less organically shaped and can easily be represented by an exact set of boxes or spheres

So adding +1 size to the rack while keeping the missile size seems to double the amount of missiles now, apart from some strange cases. That kinda defeats the hope of rocket pods, as you'd need a S5 hardpoint for 16 S1 missiles. Unless they make rocket pods actual guns like on the Delta, but that would kinda suck.

>>
>>163307530
The thing is, you can't change the hardpoint sizes. Stock LN (S4 hardpoint) comes with a quad S2 rack. That's twice as many missiles as an Avenger (2x S2) or the same as a 325a (2x S3), both stock. So you somehow end up with a multipurpose starter ship that has significantly better missile capabilities than more expensive fighters (not even talking about $$$, but you can bet they'll be more expensive in the game as well). Heck, the S4 hardpoint makes the Aurora even more flexible missile-wise than the 325 because it can not only equip the same amount of S2 or S3 missiles, but also a single S4 if you wanted to.
I don't want the Aurora to be artificially shit because muh starter ship and seeing it crawling along on the bottom of the speed chart while sounding like a vacuum cleaner annoys me, but it really shouldn't outclass fighters in anything.

It doesn't outclass fighters, it has the option of 2 big missiles as a crutch against getting assraped by fighters that can outmanouver and outgun it into oblivion.
>>
>>163308198
The LN is the only one that can do it though. The LX can't get the larger mount, and the other variants can't equip them at all.

>>163308198
It's slow and frail, let it punch hard. It's supposed to be barely passable at a number of things, which it sort of achieves at combat because of its loadout - and no higher than that because of its generator capacity, low speed and frailty. It's not supposed to be the worst at all things, that's not what jack of all trades means.

The corrected cruise time was done using what the anons above figured out, and the corrected strafe and angle thrust was done by multiplying the thrust time correction factor (no idea if that's right or if you are supposed to divide, or do anything at all. pyros are obscenely strong, but they don't damage or hit enemies period in any online modes right now. solo AC they are so strong i dont see myself using any other S3 any time soon. having more than 2 is probably overkill that could be swapped for something else more spammy at range. mantis' pip lines up with it inside the pyro's range for some really disgusting DPS on anything cutlass or larger sized

Have you got any real units to put on the Y axis?
>>
>>163317790
Damn it, I wanted to give that a try.

>>163317986
Ah I have defiantly had a bit of that in SM, randomly dying from a weapon shot with no a/v ques and with nobody remotely near you, but not AC yet.
>>
>>163318209
Not really, the corrected charts are a ratio of thrust to weight anyway and the previous chart, I think, must be some game value because they get into the millions. Use it more to compare ships than outright numbers. I applied the correction values to smooth things out and bring the values as close as I could for comparison.
>>
ffs. I posted the wrong shit up there. I am way too high for this.
>>
>>163317765
2 unfinished bombers with questionable futures, tali especially til cap ships are in
OR
-THE- ship to have for 3.0?

This patch might be really fucked. Quote from spectrum:

"[Update]:
We are aware that a large number of players are experiencing code 30000 and 10002 errors.
While this new instability is unfortunate please try and play as much as you can so we can gather as much data on these issues as possible!
Thanks!"
>>

I think he means the previous patches with code 30000.

All right, dropped 35 USD on this. Now to return to Elite until SC becomes playable on an i7 2600k and 660Ti.

Okay 4 Pyrobursts are defiantly rape, if the netcode connects the shots.

I'm using a i7-2600 (non-k) and was using a GTX570 and could play on low as well as anyone else at the time. Now I have a 1070.

I'm only here to camp the bennys henge with a quad pyroburst sabre my dude.

That sounds both reassuring and alarming. Been eyeing the 1070 for a while, too. All in good time, I suppose.

Why the fuck cannot I customize my loadouts for my ships for the PTU
>>
>>163324479
The 570 demanded the low setting because of the low vram, but it was playable. 1070 is a bit of dosh, but fuck, it is amazing.
>>
They're not lying about the prevalence of error code 30000 in this build :S.
>>
>>163325395
how bout you do it in the hangar like everyone else?

only thing you cant do at olisar is add 2 of the same weapon if theyre not equipped on something already, which is what i assume you meant by PTU

i sure hope youre not actually playing with the new UI and menus enabled
>>
>>163326558
I dont have access to all the weapons thats the problem. Like I wanna try getting the PTU website to work but buying weapons from there always errors me.
>>
>>163326818
Don't by though EA use voyager direct its still free.
>>
>>163326818
get them from voyager direct, not REC store

same question answered above somewhere
>>
Have they done something to missiles for 2.6PTU?

I'm finally starting to hit my retaliator torpedoes. And holy shit these 1 hit kills with them are insane.
>>
>>163327038
>>163327164
Thank you, I was so use by the REC store.

Also anybody else trying to add the cutlass flashfire mount?
>>
>>163328178
It's still broken, IIRC. I wouldn't bother with anything cutlass-related until the rework hits.
>>
>>163328178
if there was one patch where i'd expect it to work it'd be 2.6, but it does not since it's being reworked. personally checked on this in all possible modes to customize ships in 2.6, no hardpoint anywhere.
>>
Just finished up an AC Battle Royal Gladius with 10 kills 2 deaths, only used Omnisky lasers.

I feel like all my spaceships have paper thin armor in AC.

I honestly don't recall but I think most everything except the glaive & blade was available then and will be again on boxing day.
