Wrong, he trades favorably with pretty much anyone and everyone when it is in 300 range. Stun, walk up to target, trade hits, they back off for 15 seconds for the stacks to wear off, if they don't back off they die then and there.

I wanted to try a memebuild where you get Aghs and then the additional upgrade to it at level 25.

Alternatively having a DoT that does 725 (1125 with the talent) damage over 5 seconds with 900 range on a 10 second cooldown is bretty good if you don't need Viper as right click damage dealer. It also reduces the mana cost from 250 to 125 so it's a lot more spammable.

Design changes aren't as simple as they may seem on the outside.

Take LoL's dynamic queue for instance. When Riot merged solo and dynamic together into a single value, it was to encourage party queue. Customer retention is much higher when you add in social pressure. They basically wanted to remove reasons to play solo, not expecting the backlash that ensued. They covered it up by saying they aim to equalize solo and dynamic winrates, but that's obvious bullshit especially when you consider how a 5-stack would have a fundamental advantage over 5 randoms, making it nothing more than a PR statement (which is really the best they could have done in that situation). It's the same reason Overwatch gives an XP bonus for group queue.

As for GPU intensity, the game needs to look flashy to sell, and it doesn't come free. If people see you game looking like something straight out of 2003, they'll just pass it up. As bad as it is, appearance sometimes does take precident over substance. Even on a local scale I'm nearly positive if Valve could go back and increase the system requirements to take out the bottom graphics options they would, because if a player's friend (I know nobody here has one, let's just pretend we do) walked by and saw a crazy HD game they would be more likely to ask about it than something that looks really old. It's why Valve put so much emphasis on beefing up the graphics of the game in the 7.00 update. Even minor stuff like the "Ultra" shadow detail gets the spotlight in update pages because it's important that the game looks presentable.

You say that, but his remote mines have barely been changed, if anything I would say they have received a net buff. So mid to endgame techies is still 5 man gem step step check. Pre 7.00 landmines fell of HARD, as in you would haev to place upwards of 12 on a single stack to get a kill, and if you placed 1 too few all you had achieved was wasting 2 minutes on placement. Huge risk with often very little payoff. Basically after 25~ minutes techies relied on remotes, if not only because at that point techies has to choose between stacking aghs remotes or landmines, he doesn't have mana to do both and aghs remotes are better. Post 7.00 that asepct of techies hasn't changed, after about 25 minutes you still want to rely mostly on aghs remotes.
