MGS V had solid mechanics, but the constant extractions and base raiding in its dull lifeless world made that an incredibly boring game for me. It would have been far better as a linear game, which is why I actually preferred Ground Zeroes, as short as it was. Witcher 3 was mostly good for its writing and story, and the open world did very little for it and I get the feeling that it's one of those games that no one plays for the gameplay. Though I'll concede that something like Witcher 3 is probably the best case scenario, since if you look at these threads, most of us discuss the characters and the history over the actual gameplay. I haven't played FFXV, so I have no idea how well that game handles its open world.

But let's be honest here, Koei aren't the most talented game devs or writers out there and they have very little experience with this style of game. Worst case scenario could really end up being a Ubisoft tier giant map with a bunch of markers for pointless filler shit everywhere.

I know I'm being overly negative and jumping to conclusions already, but not every fucking game needs to be open world and not all gaming franchises benefit from it. I'm all for trying new things with your formula, but there are so many other things that they could have done instead of the current open world fad, it seems like they're desperately trying to gain the attention of an audience that probably doesn't have any interest in musou games.

If they do a more focused combat system like 2-5 had I will be happy. I hated 6 for how basic everything felt. and how edgy they tried to make it. 7 and 8 kind of had the right idea, but took away most other parts that felt proper (rpg elements and the feeling of getting stronger are almost entirely gone)

Samurai Warriors 4 had the right idea for combat, sort of, but you had to wait until 4-II just to have a proper story for a single character. SW4 had too many spam moves and too much clutter killing moves.

I still like the series. But I really like coop with a friend back when even foot soldiers felt like a challenge. Back when it was more RPG in how you slowly became stronger, searching for a really good roll on a weapon. Trying to beat levels a certain way for secret items or a special final weapon.

Also. Heard ranbu might be back. a good reason why I hated 6 was the ranbu system, the rest was listed above or more important the amount of pop in for foot soldiers.

What kind of weapons would you like to see in the new game?
>Ladder
Usual sweeper shit, but can be used to trap people between its step, and the character can plant the ladder hard to the ground, climb it, and deliver a wwe move as he jumped down. A rugged character can used it, but also perhaps a tactician or some sort.

>Bugspray Can
disguised into the setting as "Gas Canister" or something. You pummel people up with it like a baton, and can release the gas insides for extra poison damage. Musou is creating a flamethrower with it. A strategist or a female can use it. Maybe Dong Bai? She treat commoners like insect and want to pesticide them out.

>Sniper rifle / Cane hybrid
It behaves like other pole weapons moveset, swinging and poking, but it can also shot projectiles, which was one of the farthest reaching in the game. Musou is some arrow mode like you had in older DW games, and always damage half the target's health. It cant be used twice, and you are really vurnerable during the sniping segment.

>Tentacle Arms
Were not Kotaro Fuma's arms, but more like Doc Oc's creation, with 4 or 3 additional tentacles. We alrady got flying swords and rifles so why not. Grabing and throwing opponents away, and torture them by twisting them. Your character can jump semi permanently as the arms hoist the character up, away from the ruckus below. Musou is some laser show shit.
