The filters I can apply are so limited it's not even worth it. Thottbot had options to filter items that had an especific stat, if it was a world drop, Dungeon drop or quest drop, etc

Honestly, leveling a blood elf was the most comfortable experience I've ever had playing WoW, even more comfy than Dun Morogh. I loved the color palette, I loved the music, I loved the ambience. The quests were done very well, thanks to Blizzard learning from their mistakes in Vanilla quest lines, and they were extremely rewarding. I loved the Ghostlands. I loved the Tranquillien items being locked by rep, teaching newcomers what the rep system can do. I loved having an entire zombie city you have to raid in to finish the quest line. Because before Nost became NOST it was just another attempt at bringing back Vanilla. No one realized that it would define the standards of a GOOD private server when the only things people had up until then were Feenix. The reason people care now is because there's a sort of understanding that Nost is pretty much permanent unlike the first time it rolled around, so minmaxing is critical to make sure you don't waste time on the content.

Think about PvP aspects of classes, too. PvP in Vanilla can fill your time up too because the gear is interchangeable. If you can't heal in a raid, you can still heal in PvP, though it makes infinitely more sense for you to be a polymorphing flagrunner that abuses the fuck out of Shred.

Mage was actually the only class I leveled to 60 straight through back in vanilla. I got a shaman to 60 also, but it literally took me a year to go from 40-55, I kept rerolling other classes. The measures that other companies go through in order to range ban and keep them from accessing western servers are very high. That is how big of an issue they are. Even on retail they infest every server and spam trade chat all day. Unless you get an addon to filter it trade chat is unreadable (on retail, which disallows chinese and has region specific servers).

On their forums they actually laugh at Nostalrius for letting them play on it for free without needing to avoid being banned. To them it's an absurd concept that a western based game would give them free reign to not only access the servers but also play on them without any cost.

There is a reason Blizzard and every game company segregates the chinese and eastern audiences from the rest of the world. Even their version of Diablo 3 is fundementally different with cash shops for in game bonuses. Their culture is radically different.

The only reason why private servers were typically very international was because of how low pop they all were. Nostalrius has the EXACT OPPOSITE problem and yet continues to be an international server.

I'm just going to play nost until I see if crestfall is any good.

Meh for PvE, does well during MC+Ony era until Casters get geared and Mages start spec'ing fire then you are mostly just there for Tranq Shot and the occasional kiting (which is kinda fun). Is basically the anti-caster when it comes to PvP has longer range than most other Casters, feign death, freezing trap, Aimed shot, i'd say they are okay, but once people get close to you loose a lot of fights.
