I'm not autistic about hating anime so the themes don't bother me, and the mechanics are well designed, better than hearthstone in most cases. I haven't checked out the shadowverse general yet though. Maybe I will anon.

I tried to log on EU for fun, and since I had nothing I got a C'thun deck going (since you get C'thun easily) with only a few C'thun enablers and the rest was a control warrior deck with very basic cards (Shiledmasta and the like). Was still able to do good.

r/competitivehs is higher-quality but mostly just reposts from things i've already seen (eg VS reports, semi-recent decks, etc), along with gigantic walls of text explaining basic concepts and egotistical preening.

This place isn't exactly a shining beacon of light, but it's not the same 10 posts over and over again. Aside from the commercial spam, of course, but that seems to have died down recently.

Plus the atmosphere and format are better, at least to my taste.
HS is much less fun when you take it seriously.

I would like to bring forth an idea for a challenge from us to r/hearthstone;
The Hearthstone Super Cup: A Battle Royale between the best and brightest of /hsg/ and r/hearthstone.

Here is my proposal for a format:
8 players from each site are selected and play in Bo5 matches. Two losses required to be eliminated. First round will be standard seeding (players are seeded randomly), then shifted “up”. The side that shifts “up” will always be one particular site. That will be determined at a later date.

Each player is considered a “life” of the site. If the numbers are uneven, then the site with more players “alive” will sit out a round.

The last site with any players standing wins.

I say we build a team of 8, and invite r/hearthstone to our little competition. Maybe we get embarrassed and return to our little thread here. Or we smash the biggest HS community there is and walk around with our heads a little higher.

While I have nothing against you're idea, I just wanted your feedback on this cause I was thinking about a custom tournament that we could have. After making the roulette recently I got this idea:

What if we had a "modular" tournament where players have a set amount of "points" to spend when makign their decks?

For example, each adventure, or even adventure wings could cost some points. So if you start with 100 points for example, it would cost X to unlock cards from an adventure.

Also, it could be the same for acquiring a bunch of cards from sets, like Y points for a legendary, Z points for a playset of cards, etc.

I could create some charts for ya and we could run scenarios together prior to making it official if you want. Just an idea, but it seems fair since everyone is restricted in deck building by the same amount of points. What do you think?

You're probably shitty. The reason people hate arena is that it makes them look at their shittiness objectively. Card games are about consistency over time. If you make the right choices, your winrate will reflect it. You cannot win every game.
In constructed, you can build a cookie-cutter deck, hit rank 11 and see "progression" and go "I only lost because of x bullshit deck." In arena, you might draft a below-average deck, but you can still make solid decisions to push that winrate up. You won't see feel-good numbers that stick around. You have to push to make your winrate higher, and the only constant is your decision-making, both in deck construction and in play. Arenamastery or Heartharena won't teach you how to make the decision to pass a "better" pick up in favor of a pick that more easily fits your curve, or the deck playstyle you're drafting.

Plus, you're anteing up your own in-game currency to play, so there is a risk inherent.

So yeah, get better.

No tourney guy, but what about this idea:

Le reddit holds a tournament to chose its 8 people. If we have more than eight people who volunteer, we hold a tournament.

The final 8 from each tournament goes to the finals, each player gets one ban and each community gets to ban 4 cards.

The tournament will be two sided. On side A will be 4 reddit and 4 /ourguys/ on side B we will have another 4 reddits and 4 /our guys/. They essentially meet up at the finals and losers bracket.

All battles will be standard and bo5 conquest mode.

Optionary: some sort of bet for the losing side, like disenchanting X leggy.
