It becomes easier to use who you want to use regardless of relics as you play and get good ability hones, and then it's more a matter of what skills they can bring. Though obviously SBs do make things easier and more attractive. I'm not going to be the guy who wins everything with Core classes, but I've been using Edea a lot in high level fights even outside VIII synergy and I've drawn nothing for her yet; I just really like using Memento Mori/Dark Zone (which I honed to 6 uses).

XV question about summons.
Are they basically just "easy mode" ways to fight bosses? I used one early on the first time I got it because I wanted to see, then I went into some optional forest area/tomb on the way to the lighthouse and fought a pretty tough boss. Had the summon prompt so I checked it out and it just BTFO the boss from at least half his HP left, was kind of ticked since I liked the epic/challenging battle that was going on.

So if I want to fight bosses and stuff should I just not use summons?

Summons are very powerful, but they have random triggers. You won't see them every fight. Ramuh is the most common and he only appears fairly uncommonly - his trigger is have a long battle.

Force Shield is a decent enough shield, but the question is whether or not you want to save Star Quartz for something more important.

We're getting both Man Eater and the Holy Spear in either the next Chocobo shop, or the one after that. They're both much better uses of Star Quartz than the shield. There will be a better shield within a couple of months, but off the top of my head I can't recall if it's from a Trial or an Event.

FP pulls can only pull FP Units. You won't ever see any of the regular summons through it. Very rarely, there will be a bonus FP summon event where you can summon Cactaurs and Gil Snappers. But I've only seen it come up twice in the past five months.

Brotherhood helps understand the main characters a bit better. Kingsglaive covers the entire Insomnia invasion that's only briefly glanced upon in the game itself.
I'd recommend the former, and if you feel like watching a decent action movie then Kingsglaive wouldn't hurt either.

ELT is only slightly more efficient than PRO for gears.

I'm going to grab the 70K moogle and then go after the summon tickets/Malboro Wand/Cheap 6* mats/Screamroot since we have 5 days and early saturday morning for the event here for EST. I don't have money problems since I have nearly 6M worth of Gil for later enhancement needs.

Also on a sad note lost twice to whale teams in the Arena since they blitzed me with AoEs and had multiple Lightnings to annoy with RNG. Nearly lost the last one too if my HP wasn't higher than theirs on the last turn since the rest of my team was downed by AoEs as well.

You get more bang from his LB for each level up you do earlier and it gets harder to level up his LB with each awakening you do.

I got a 15/15 4*Cecil right now and I need to get him the gigantuars to awaken him to 5* to start the LB grind all over again for him. At least when he hits 6*, he will be VERY useful and will replace the 6* unleveled LB one I got since a 20/25 LB Cecil will have a decent stat boost on his LB compared to the zero LB grinded one.

3 DK Cecils are great though to have as a TMR since his sword is useful if you have a Garland or anyone who needs to stack man-eaters with Diablos. Delita is the troll unit of the base 5*s for the moment since Ramza is the best buff unit after enhancements, Lightning/Luneth/Gilgamesh all are great to have for a F2P while Delita has an outclassed TMR and is very mediocre unless you run a mage team.

I wouldn't mind a Gil or a Ramza.

You can't get Elza and DK Cecil is bad right now.
You should hope for a Lightning / Luneth so you can make use of dualwield, or Ramza to futureproof (he becomes a god in every party once his enhancements come up).
Or a Gilgamesh but you won't be able to get his TM that gives dual wield before a long time when you start out, so he won't be as good until then.
