Basically the only thing it can do reliably is roll catch. You have to play extremely passively with it and then just hammer r1 when they go at you. Invariably you'll catch them but it's pretty boring to fight against. Really all it would've taken for the weapon to be a little bit more proactive is a decent dash attack.

Ok, so I just saw one of the werewolves on Old Yharnam healing itself. It was the last one before the BSB after the screeching beast agreed it. I hit it with a tricked kirkhammer R2, and it after a lunge, it stood still for a second and got about half of its health back. I've never seen that before, is that something that can happen?

I'm in the same position. The thing with the Parasite is it demands good gems, but also has hgh modifiers - different attacks do more damage than others, the dash R1 is a good example is probably the basic attack you'll be using, the tricked L2 JoJo pose explosion can do very good damage, too, but it requires timing. Switch between the parasite and a saw cleaver/spear with elemental gems, my cleaver has bolt gems, my spear has fire. If you're pure arc, you could convert the axe and cane to elemental, too.

I just got the DLC and I was about to beat my first NG+ game. I'm at the part in front of Laurance where there is this huge purple cthulhu executioner with an axe.
Is there any safe way to fight this guy? His axe attacks are AOE and seem near impossible to dodge, and if he hits me once he usually combos me to death while I'm staggered. I have plenty of hp and do tons of damage, but this guy doesn't even give me a chance to heal.

Why rifle spear? Only the projectiles scale with blt, and blunderbuss does more damage.
Just give priority to your str/skill, use your starter weapon, reach 30 and then upgrade blt and grab Chikage.

Hit him a lot while avoiding getting hit yourself.

In all srsness tho, focus attacking on one side of his body at a time, and he'll eventually stagger. Play aggressively, and don't rely on backstepping to get breathing room for healing. Use serrated weapons with fire paper. When he jumps up to the ceiling and doesn't immediately jump on top of you, sprint in one direction until he does come down and you'll avoid the hit.

For phase 2 the most helpful advice I have is get close and dash circles around him while he charges his laser. Do it right and you'll be behind him when the sword comes down and you can hit him a lot of times

With 20 Bullets and Blood-Bulleting before every shot, you'll get only 2 normal Cannon shots. 4 with the Church Cannon. At 50 Blt it gets higher AR than the normal Cannon with low Blt. It's rare to find people spelunking FRCs through SRRC, but it's a real treat when you do.

There's no way. You only know when you've already arrived. That's the nature of SRRC. You can be summoned into any chalice, and it wouldn't make sense to be able to prepare as the game is already loading you into the host's world.
Really, just bring weapons for everything. Church Pick is pretty great in that regard, but sometimes all you need is Fire/Bolt Paper. You should be able to handle everything well.

Not sure just how big of a difference armor makes outside of poison/frenzy/beasthood/etc and Charred Garb for fire, but I go fashionborne--practically wear the same crap everytime--and I've never had a problem.
I suppose just focus on not getting hit period. You're generally able to survive at least one attack in FRC dungeons, barring certain instant kills. Knowing the boss's moveset will do a hell of a lot more good to you than attire ever will. But if it's really that big of a problem, try quickly switching your clothes the moment you know who the layer boss is.

I just fought ludwig for the first time. The very first attempt, I was destroyed after only taking away like 10% of his health. The second time, I tried summoning valtr just to see how much of a help he was. He was way too helpful; I was moments away from winning when I stopped attacking, let ludwig kill valtr, and then let ludwig kill me. It's just wrong to win like that.

I then failed at fighting him solo about 12 times before I finally got it down. What a fun fight, even when losing. I feel like it has taught me so much about how to dodge and when to clash / press the attack
