is anyone has having trouble finding the motivation to play XV? I'm actually not one of the people that hates the game, I've been enjoying my time with it so far, but I find myself almost subconsciously regulating my play time with is so as to not blow through it in a week.

I'm still not even very far into the game but there have been stretches already where I don't even play for a couple days, or only put in an hour or two in a day. Not to mention a lot of the time when I do play is spend dicking around with hunts and side quests

Just finished XV. I'm half in love with it, and half disappointed in it.

I didn't follow too much of the development changes in the last couple years, so I was still expecting Nomura's game. After I saw that he wasn't even credited as director in the credits roll, I looked it up and saw that they had redesigned the story completely. I was pretty sad to see that. And they cut the whole invasion from the game which really boggled my mind, until I looked up and saw that apparently this is showed in the Kingsglaive movie? I wish that this was made a bigger deal of before release, I thought that it was just some prequel about Regis' adventures as King.

Oh well, I still liked the game for the most part. I'll probably be forever frustrated with the plot of this game though.

On the whole I found XV to be enjoyable, but it has deep and abiding flaws that cannot be brushed aside. An imperfect, but not wholly unpleasant game, ends up around the 7/10 mark. Maybe a little less, hovering between 6 and 7.
The plot had some truly terrible delivery, there was not nearly enough character development, and the whole damn thing starts falling apart at the end.

You could probably stack that plus a bunch of other cheap materia and rings to give yourself ghetto immunity. Plus the 5% reduction is a FLAT reduction, so it's better than HP+15% against enemies of those particular elements (for a couple reasons).

The cactuars are just balls of EXP, throw them into whoever you want to level.
The pots are something else entirely though, they either boost your characters' stats or level up their limit break. So you should use them on very specific units. Which pots do you have?

Choose a map with NPC black mages. When they die take their crystal. When you have enough JP to buy all the skills remaining except the -ja spells do so.
Have someone cast the ja spells on you while you're in the black mage class for a chance to learn them. You must survive the attack though.
Try leveling a number of black mages together so they get spillover jp. Teach ja spells to different mages (or use spillover on characters you don't want to level and only buy the ja spells) to minimize jp spent.

Wind cannot be mitigated with Runic or Draw Magic and other similar abilities because it is not actually black magic, making resist accessories the primary way to deal with them. What the fuck was the purpose of Fran being there? She had no reason besides her attachment to Baltheir's, which isn't expanded upon in too much detail anyways. Even the kids have a tangential reason to be there, as Vaan lost his brother to gabranth (which was never touched on like it should have been) and there both Dalmascans who's nation lost their sovereignty to the empire.
But what is Fran's connection to anything, except being baltheir's friend? Everyone likes to say that penelo's only there because Vaan is, but at least she has an obvious reason to want to fight against the empire besides. If anyone was ever useless to the plot, it's the bunny.

If you want connection to plot events you'll find most later FF characters are pretty uninvolved in actually driving the plot forward and instead provide enhanced perspective into the story to the player in exactly the way Fran does. Take X, where the only people crucial to the plot were Yuna, Tidus and Auron, all due to their relations to Braska and Jecht. Anyone unrelated is just enhancement talent. Luneth is the most actively useful for the future (you'd probably run dry on eggs if you try to purely level through them), as his is 40% for double EXP compared to the 20% for the lesser double EXP materia.

People suggested Cloud because his +30% damage is tied to Swords which most of the attacker crowd can use in any realm.

Beyond that, you'd usually want to prioritize stat boosts (like +15% ATK/MAG) unless you're bumping against that stat's soft-cap already or you're strictly using one type of ability/element for damage (so if you're leaning on, like, Snowspell and Tornado Strike, +40% Spellblade is okay, but if you're splitting between Lifesiphon and non-Spellblade BSB commands, you have better options). The attack replacements are generally not really worth it because ideally your abilities will have enough hones and/or you're using BSB commands.

That's only considerations for the Record Materia themselves, though; the stats you get from leveling are going to usually be the main draw to using your MCIII so really you can focus on your A team first and as it goes on just fill in whoever you like/gets a good relic draw.

Well first we're probably getting Slut Fina, Luka and Elle.
The non-5* base sucks unless you don't have a healer yet, in which case they still suck, but only half as bad.
Fina is literally just Exdeath, they have the same damage potential.

Then we should be getting the Type-0 banner (we're already 2 months overdue). All of them suck except for Rem (base 5*) and King (base 4*)

Then Orlandu banner, which has a bunch of garbage units attached too. He's the best unit in the game for a long time, but the other units are trash city so it's a bad time to pull.

Then FFII, which sucks even worse than any before it. Not only is the base 5* WORSE than an existing 3* (exdeath), all the other units suck too.

Then FFI, which has no FFI units in it. It's all donuts, and the only good one is base 5*.

Then we get a somewhat decent banner in FFX. Teedus is the 5*, and he's great, but we also have a base 3* with a DW-type TM worth pulling for.

To this day he's irreplaceable on a JP team. Even Cecil gets the boot before he does 9 times out of 10, because party composition is getting ever-stricter, and WoL is a multitasker.

I was honestly hoping Charlotte would be good so that they could decentralize it away from the WoL/Cecil Holy Binity.

Meaning you can get anywhere from 16 gears/NRG to 17.538 gears/NRG in ELT
and 15 gears/NRG to 18.4 gears/NRG in PRO.

On average, it's 16.769 gears/NRG in ELT vs 16.7 gears/NRG in PRO.
They're nearly identical, ignoring cactuars.

You bring a single unit you want to level alongside a friend unit, and then kill everything in the stage.
If you don't run a macro to do it for you, you WILL suffer though. It's the most tedious, boring shit ever concocted.

There's a better one in the 5th island in terms of EXP efficiency, but most people can't reliably run it with a single friend unit, much less a macro.

In general, you don't want to level everything at once in this game. Focus everything on one unit at a time, EXP gets split up anyway.
Units don't really get progressively stronger, they get stronger at fixed level thresholds where they learn new skills.

"random" encounters are random in the sense that you don't know when they come, but there's only a fixed amount of them per stage. You can actually run out of random encounters if you run a particular zone long enough.

You can check by looking at how much Gil you have earned. It will always be the same every time.
