That's different and you know it. All the other games gave you were vague things along the lines of "lives in a vault", "is in this tribe, related to people in tribe", "lives in a vault, possibly bullied and their dad is a doctor", and "mailman", then along comes "you are a father/mother who is a soldier/owner of a law degree. This is your baby child you you live in a nice suburban neighborhood with. You are rich enough to afford a nice house, a car, and a robot." it's very clearly different. A character who wouldnt go looking for their father can be justified (rebelling against father, being scared, etc) but its very hard to justify leaving your child in the wasteland without attempting to search for them.

Actually, the house the SS lives in is a type of prefab house given to soldiers returning from war who were too poor to afford an actual house.

Also, everyone had a car and robot in Fallout.

What does that have to do with like, anything? Since your character is retarded they assume that their son was just taken a minute before they woke up, they don't think it's been 200 years. And it's not like it being 200 years after has any effect on them. For the player it was instant.

Having literally been in cryostasis, making the SS's perception of time unaware of when things take place, he goes on the quest to find his son assuming that the kidnapping was recent. On the MQ, he hears that Kellogg, a known mercenary, has been seen with a young boy, who the SS assumes to be Shaun because, again, he believes the kidnapping to be relatively recent. When he sees Kellogg, he hasn't aged or doesn't appear to have aged, and then when they view Kellogg's memories, he again appears no different with a relatively young

He doesn't know Kellogg is alive, but he's given a lead and is able to identify Kellogg when he confronts Kellogg. Again, all signs point to suggest the time between the kidnapping and Nate/SS actually waking up was relatively short. There is no story indication to make the player believe the kidnapping occurred decades in the past unless you know the story ahead of time.

We are talking about basically the first half of the MQ being just "my son was kidnapped, know anyone who could help me track him down?" with no actual evidence either Kellogg or Shaun are alive.

You could easily justify thinking that they are dead.

He has no evidence that Kellogg or Shaun are alive, but there is NO EVIDENCE to say they aren't because the SS perceives the events as having happened seconds before awakening. Justifying that they're dead requires, and pardon the RP terminology, OOC assumptions and awareness of the story, and assuming you're keeping the Vault 111 cryofreezing, there's no justification for making that assumption IC.

That's true, but Kellogg is described as being a mercenary, which Nick makes the connection based off your description of Kellogg, if I remember correctly (been a year since I touched the MQ). That means, physically, he appears similar enough. With that in mind, it's more reasonable for the SS to accept a few years have passed and Kellogg doesn't appear much older than Kellogg is some unaging synth mercenary (that no one is aware of) and that the young boy is a descendant of Shaun. Accepting a few years =/= accepting 60 years have gone by. If it was 60 years, Kellogg would be dead (if he wasn't an unaging synth) and Nick wouldn't have been able to identify him, although since Kellogg is an unaging synth, Nick can identify him, which only makes the SS' perceived narrative about the kidnapping being recent appear all the more true.

All Coursers now have
-Synth grenades, which they will use in battle
-Courser Flechette Rifle, that concept art weapon, which has multiple modes and is generally pretty cool

As far as it being 'worth' 2 centuries of time, again, you have to read the moment as in-character. As a father/mother, whose spouse you just witnessed being murdered in cold blood and your baby son kidnapped literally a few feet in front of you, all perceived to have happened mere seconds before you escaped your cryo pod, what seems more likely: decades or centuries passed and you were even more helpless than you already believed, or the event that appeared seconds ago happened literally seconds ago? When the SS is told that Kellogg was seen with a young boy, then yes, the SS has to accept that perhaps their misconception and perception of time are skewed, but they can accept a few years have passed, especially if Kellogg appeared physically the same, enough for Nick to identify him off the SS's description. The fact remains, however, that the SS was shown to be completely helpless as their spouse was killed and their son kidnapped a few feet away from him, and that's what drives them to search for Kellogg and their son. That's why, canonically, it makes far more sense for them to be in a complete fury when they confront Kellogg and not some passive and apathetic individual.

-Trinity Church is in-game, and Trinity Tower is the real life John Hancock Tower
-The Hatch Shell is that place where that cult is in-game
-Custom House Tower is in-game
-The old state house is where Goodneighbor is

A great deal of the locations in downtown Boston are based on a real life place, and are where they are IRL.

Though if you look at the FAR left hand side of the map you can see V81 way far away, Bethesda cut out most of the city between Fenway and V81 in-game though

Camping mod is actually a good mod.

I had so much fun with wet and cold with skyrim, so since there are no bonus/damages for staying warm etc in Fallout, I thouhgt it wasn't worth it.

With FO, you have very little potential. Either you steal a lot of clothes, weapons from other games, there's nothing much else you could do to change the game.

Most of the mods are retextures, or new models. Not actual new content, like all the gameplay mods we had for skyrim.

For example, atm I'm obsessed with immersion and realism, and playing on survival it's not really worth it. I'd like a more complex mod, like Wet&Cold and other which I dont remember right now, but your character actually neeeded to drink, eat, stay warm, etc.

That because, unlike skyrim, Bethesda already DID most of the new features mods from Fallout 3/NV as offical DLC for Fallout 4

-Settlement building is Real Time Settler + Feng shui, and covers most home base mods.
-PA was greatly improved like many PA mods.
-The weapon modding system is basically an expanded version of WMX.
-Companions and factions were, in general, far better, meaning people are less interested in making mods for that.
-Automatron covered Robco Certifited.
-Wasteland Workshop had concrete buildings, traps, planters, arenas, and tameable animals.
-Contraptions allowed you to build weapons/armor/ammo/clothes/food, and gave us weapon/armor racks.
-Vault-Tec workshop added buildable vaults, companion tracking, clean versions of many settlement items, facial reconstruction, and SPECIAL boost items.
-Nuka World gave us settlement raiding/raider stuff.

Besides jacking up spawn numbers, adding some new weather, and some minor damage changes, Bethesda already did all the new gameplay mods as offical Fo4 content

Yeah, well it's a Beth game so in terms of quality, meh.

Bethesda does a marvelous job, creating these worlds with absolute incredible history, lore, characters..on the paper everything's great.
Then the games are buggy, the quests are kind of dull...that's where the modding community comes in.

they're like "okay, you done your job, now like make this game actually playable".

But, while TES can be implemented with a shitton of stuff from other various media (let's not forget a couple years ago all the hobbits movies came out, the equivalent for FO would be Mad Max, which is a terrific movie, but it's just one, it didn't live the hype of the moment) from other fantasy settings and vidyas. It's a virtually endless game.

FO, on the other hand..."war never changes", and the game fells dull the same way.

I've never successfully rigged fingers before using OS.

I mean, I haven't tried in a while either, but it usually always came out looking bad. Kinda why I steer clear of requests like that too. Maybe new OS can do them better with all its options for bone weight copying....so good luck with it.

In some of my ports I kinda got away with just using human hands and retexturing them, but that wouldn't have really worked for that outfit.

Uhh, Bethesda have outright stated they used the Fallout bible when making Fallout 3, and Fallout 3 uses several things from the Fallout bible directly.

Also, no one is "not letting" Avellone update it. Avellone doesn't want too because he thinks the whole ting should be considered non-canon since it was just his personal musings.

Since we actually have some decent discussion going on in this thread, can we talk a little bit about the music in New Vegas?

We all know that the default radio songs weren't chosen randomly, and that all the songs are symbolically linked to either characters or themes in the game. Most of them are fairly obvious, like Ulysses being Johnny Guitar, but I've always been curious about Big Iron, specifically the identity of Texas Red.

The Arizona Ranger obviously refers to the NCR, and the "Big Iron" at his hip refers to the NCR-aligned Courier, the greatest weapon the NCR has in the Mohave. Texas Red isn't quite as clear. You might think maybe Texas Red refers to the Legion, since they're the greatest threat to the NCR in the Mohave, yet the Arizona Ranger is the aggressor in the song, and Texas Red has really done nothing wrong (he's claimed to be an "outlaw", yet all his kills are in self-defense). Obviously this isn't a strong parallel with the Legion, who are hardly passive and defensive, they're constantly on the attack. So who IS Texas Red? My only guess is that Texas Red refers to the Wastelanders or Tribals of the pre-NCR Mohave, who are getting pushed around by the NCR.

What do you guys think?

So I just completed a full survival run through of Fallout 4 + Automatron, Far Harbor, and Nuka world and I just wanted to give my thoughts

Some of these problems can be fixed with mods, but I decided to go vanilla

Food and water timescales are fucked up. When I played I felt like a glutton needing a full course meal every ingame hour

Radaway serves no use. The drawbacks of using radaway are too much to warrant the use of it

Autostim legendary armors and modded power armor are not worth it

Some guns need their damage output reworked in order to make them useful at all. Shotguns, .50 hunting rifles, and submachine guns namely. Their damage/lb of ammo is just so low

Followers will fall off the Prydwen when using the Vertibird pad at the airport. Tell them to stay on the ground so you don't waste your stimpaks

The DLCs are just not made with survival in mind at all. Especially Automatron. Its dungeon is a long grind of tough enemies with no beds in the facility at all. Nukaworld was really rough as well. The bottling plant felt way harder than it needed to be

Fallout 2 was near universally shit on when it came out for ruining everything that made 1 good.

Tactics, while not having to right visual aesthetic, was probably the first Fallout game to do something NEW lore wise. And Fallout 3 and 4 put new spins on old factions.

While New Vegas played the NCR, Khans, Super Mutants, Followers, BoS and most everyone else 100% straight with no real development beyond what they were in Fallout 2.

Seems to me the further east you go, the most new ideas actually start developing, while the west is a cesspool of stagnation.

Shadow resolution, shadow distance, and god rays will be your biggest offenders. The vivid textures series is good to relieve stress on VRAM. God rays look like ass on anything besides Ultra, but it eats the most frames. There's a fix on nexus for this though. You can also look through those texture optimizer mods and see which work best for you. I have a 1070 but I still get dips to the 40s here and there. Stays at 60fps 90% of the time otherwise.

I changed the stats on the one I use. Its basically assault rifle stats but way higher damage because it uses .308. 200 damage per shot with all perks. Due to the weird scaling of the game I can kill some enemies in 1 bullet but some super mutants might still take 100 - 150 shots to kill.

I wouldn't really know how to get the heads to broadcast stuff though.

Just load an Assaultron head armor in OS as reference and copy the weights to the TV mesh, do all the CK stuffs and it should then have a TV head. I have a TV mesh already edited with the base off in my hats pack on the OP site if you want to use it, should only take like ~10~ seconds to rig it.

If you want to passively make caps, you will need to farm. You can make decent caps without making purifier farms, you could make a Brahmin farm using cages and make asstons of jet and jet fuel I guess.

Then invest in all your settllement shops and sell the jet to them all. You can still make lots of caps.

Outfit Studio

I made some tutorials but rigging robot parts is a bit of a different process...most of the time its not that hard. You will need to extract the meshes and find an Assaultron head armor piece, or sentry head armor ( dont know which robot part you're using ), and open it in Outfit studio as a reference, open the TV mesh as an outfit, copy the bone weights, and then manually weight paint it if it still needs paint, if some part of the TV isn't colored, it will need paint. For robots its usually red paint since they don't stretch, and red is the strongest weight paint.

I'm sure that all sounds confusing as fuck but once you've done it a few times it becomes second nature

I'm basing myself from what I read at the wiki. I get being unable to save is to avoid save scumming, but in the long run it's just a pain in the ass, an unlucky crash can make you lose a lot of progress. This leads to the sleeping system, sometimes (again, from what I've read) there are no bed nearby, and apparently you can only sleep so much depending on the quality (need confirmation). The hunger/thirst is another chore, that's just because the time flies away, but that's it's easily fixable. The rest I'm ok with it.

There are a shitton of beds in the game and the settlements are fairly reasonably spaced apart, which also helps out with the food and water situation.

Also Fo4 is the most stable of the bethesda games short of maybe newrim. I've put 330 hours into in vanilla and I've only crashed once and had a major glitch once.

My individual saves are at ~60 MB. That's probably when you want to be worried.

I think my 400 hour saves (unmodded mostly) were only ~25 MB, so you should be fine.

Thematic and Practical is one I'd highly recommend, followed by Northland Diggers, Do It Yourshelf, Dino's Decorations, and then maybe Snap'n Build. Scrap Everything will be useful, along with a few other small QoLs like Longer Power Lines and any that increase the settlement limit. You could probably build plenty of settlements that fit the aesthetic of the game without Homemaker. Don't forget to get SKE, since that'll probably be required, and run LOOT before starting the game.

Make sure you're using the FO4 Unofficial Patch at the least, and then probably best to run ENBoost just so you can dedicate more of your RAM and VRAM towards Fallout, even if you're not using any ENB presets.
