The trick to owning a Javelin is to find someone that has it and wait until they park it. Then board and murder his npc crew and fly off with it.

Im sure something like a javelin you'll be able to secure in a spacedock. The safe bet is that anything purchaseable to for real money can be securely stored while you're offline. Hell a javelin might even just pop out of existence when all its crew logs of the way that smaller ships will. I wouldn't count on that(starside safe logout) for anything you can buy with real money I would count that you could park it on the docking arm of a space station and have it "stored" safely until your next session.

**wouldnt count on that(in flight logout) for anything labeled as a capital ship, but there will certainly be some way to make safe a ship that someone payed thousands of dollars for. Even as a prospective whaler I'm certain there will be some level of security for them, and rightly so, game where you can lose everything while offline(lookin at you rust) inevitably implode and the only people who ever "win" them or stick with them long term are the poop sockiest of the poopsockers.

Being exposed to risk 24/7 whether you're playing or not is just not a fun mechanic, its a stress inducing time capturing mechanic and I just dont think CIG is going to go that direction.

That level of risk will likely only bne associated with the "Org only" level of ships like Pegasus, Cruisers, BCs/BBs and other "capture only" type fleet ships.

It would be hilarious if it happened to someone like dogmiral or some other "muh captaincy" dad. But it would also really chill the prevalence of caps in the game world, if there was no way to secure them short of 24/7 manning and flight no ones going to use them except for the very largest orgs who can maintain a crew 24/7/365 and that will be an extremely short list of orgs.

We explicitly dont want everyone flying a cap ship, but I do think that any org with 15-20 regulars should have a reasonable opportunity to get into that game without it just being a matter of time until some bigger, more addicted group finds their hidey hole and steals their ship while they sleep.

What would be entirely plausilble and possible in my estimation is that Caps might persist after you log out, but you can log them locked down and inaccessible to a station. They're still there and can be damaged, but for legal/NPC gaurd purposes they are part of the station and damaging them will result in a Police/Navy/Militia response.

That's completely separate from making capital ship too specialized and costly to see everywhere (and don't forget jump gate size).
I'm surprised so many people don't get it. You'll still want to fly a Freelancer even when you can afford an Idris and its npc crew.

From what I know the plan is not to let players ship get destroyed while you are out as it would just be unfair.
Just like you won't need a guild to pay continuously the salary of your npc. It's been confirmed in some 10 FTC

The exception are prize ship like the Bengal carrier. Those are the one meant for Orgs. You can't buy them, only salvage them, capture them.

A guy who works with Ben who is director of ships was talking to some tranny and mentioned that they thought 30million UEC was a fair price to buy a Polaris ship.

Let's consider, their pricing has always been roughly $1 = 1000 UEC. The ship itself was like $725.

So, in-game, technically it would have cost 725,000 UEC to buy one, for your org to use. A typical mission reward in the PU is currently 1000 UEC, meaning that it would take a player 725 missions in order to afford one. A mission such as turning on a broken communication satellite which will take a few minutes total.

But you see, shit devs like to add grind to their games, to take away fun. They tell backers that they will have fun, and then they throw in generic stupid shit in their game to ruin it. Namely, trying to simulate an economy.

So, how is it reasonable, or fair, to take a 725,000 UEC ship, and charge 30,000,000 UEC for it? 41x the USD value.

That's essentially going to force 10,000 member orgs to have to pool their resources to buy them, leaving the 10 member orgs as 2nd class citizens. Only retards want grind in their games, they've just been brainwashed to accept it.

You know, I think people are looking at these dates in the wrong way.

We shouldn't be looking at them as an actual schedule that will be met, but more as a deadline goal.

This is their internal schedule, so in a way, this is the timeline that would be met if everything went perfectly, the times that the devs are working toward, like a deadline, but a bit more flexible.

If you say "well, then take those times and add two weeks on to them to allow for hangups" then that two week later date is what the individual workers would aim for, pace themselves at, and eventually miss.

I predict at minimum one more week added.

Star Citizen is not being made with vertical progression in mind. "non shit" ship will be only dependent of what you use it for, and how, plus some custom equipments.
Same, for Capital ship which are not the next level in whatever they do, for example they can't cross smaller size of jump points.

I mention this because Grind is often the only way to slow players progression in a poorly made game. But CR is against "unfun grind" and often mentioned that you'd typically use cargo-ship to get money for the next ship, so you are expected to have several ships.

If we can trust the developers the game is meant to keep you in the game by the sheer quality and attention do details, not by doing the same things over and over again (they don't procedurally generate gigantic city, they handcraft the best one)

the only way I see other races being playable is like 3 years down the road after final release (assuming we're not permanent beta mode) when all other possible content is done and all thats left is new ships and cosmetics - they add mini campaigns for the other races for background story and motivation, then maybe, only if the respective races are fleshed out as a viable playable race to the level that humanity will be, they become playable in PU.

but even then you'd have to retconn all the base lore conflicts between races to make everyone freinds, or develop basically an entire game for each race to play inside the PU

There's no way in hell that NPCs are going to be sufficient enough to allow you to solo pilot your capital ship. Either CIG is going to purposely not allow that and will limit the amount of NPCs you can hire, or the AI just won't be good enough without needing what we would consider cheats.

Exactly. I think this whole mess is a case of people not realizing it yet because they haven't worked their way up to a ship which does better with crew.

I honestly expect zome chat to be spammed with LFG 4m orion exp. (expedition) and other crap like that, trying to fill their ship up. When you consider the amount of ships that require crew which have been sold, we're looking at a large percentage of the game's population needing other players to crew their ships. It's simpler, and fairer to allow them to use NPCs.

Nah the polaris/hull E and orion are good choices if you have the money. The 300 series might be a 350R which is fine. My problem is that torps seem shit, except the polaris has an awesome arsenal, which to me invalidates the retaliator. And the gladiator never got an upgrade the equivalent of the superhornet, so it's F7C level, and seems kind of pointless. But we might be pleasantly surprised by its effectiveness and loadout.

Its hit or miss, if its a Civil War and theres a planetary outpost that has any skimmers spawns (even if its in low numbers in a high sec outpost) you'll probably see Skimmer missions more. If its a War that extends to the system at war with the other and vice versa.
Also I'm pretty sure a few weeks ago they upped the frequency of other types of war missions to promote variety. Quietly that is, they didn't actually say anything about it officially but there was a pretty definite difference in my experience. Its still gonna have rediculously high requirements- The initial cost of the ship, insurance (fine you might have paid real money), but then you;ve got salaries for npcs, salaries for human crew, cargo cost, cargo insurance, weapon/engine/etc upgrade costs-insurance etc etc etc.

Its not like everyone is going to be bumbling about on day 0 having mega npc fleet battles all day for the next 1000 days until they get bored, they're gonna have to do other stuff or make it very lucrative use (big cargo payoffs) of their big ships to keep using them day-in day-out.
That's where your org benefits this kind of stuff, because you can have many players providing many sources of income into a pool to keep the flagship(s) operating regularly.

I think that the main advantage of those turning main thrusters is that you can quite easily have a very heavy ship, but still maintain a good deal of manouverability.

Yeah, I wish. A capital ship jumping in should be a rare thing to experience. The "Warning capital ship signature detected" should be played when you're entering the instance yourself. Instead you just get the same boring animation of the ship(s) entering constantly. I wonder if you make it retreat will it just return immediately once you leave the instance?

It'd go a long way to drive home the scale of the universe if a large portion of play time was spent in-system. The only people who would very regularly do intersystem travel would be haulers and the like.

The only thing they'd need would be a way for players to, like, hire a commuter ship to take them somewhere else. Probably a starliner. They could put their character in a bed or something and log out. Maybe go to sleep IRL or something. The next day when you wanna play, you're in the destination system.

Of course, each system would have to have enough content inside the system to make them internally fun, but I think that's doable.

It would kind of be an energy system, like a lot of games do nowadays, to limit the length of play sessions and in turn get players to play more, except it wouldn't be nearly as Jewish (oy vey goy, pay us $5 and we'll fill up your energy and you can play another level!). Instead, you'd be able to do whatever you want in-system without and barriers.

I think it'd be a great compromise for all parties.

Maybe a Gladiator bomber? Component performance might scale in a different way to in Elite, the easiest way to explain it is to say a size three missile mount can hold one size 3 missile, or two size two missiles, or four size one missiles. That should tell you how effective a size one components is in comparison to a size three component. Now apply that logic to shields.
Just get a starter Mustang Alpha with s42 to begin with since nobody knows how combat balance will really be and a ship is kind of a long term investment. You can rent ships. Just get a small one to start and upgrade later (Mustang Alpha is better for this) if you want.

Strangely, Star Citizen doesn't really have a ship that corresponds at the moment in that kind of size. The Constellation would probably be the nearest, but that is technically also a freighter - it's Star Citizen's Millennium Falcon, it's the most versatile ship in the game.

My usual Conflict Zone Ready setup runs up to about 113,330,000 Cr. Keep in mind however I bought the FDL and outfitted most of it at Ix, so I got the 15% discount from the system being controlled by Li Yong Rui. So without discount it would run 130,000,000+.
You'll probably want to get a good Fuel Scoop too for when you need to fly out to a warring system, then transfer your module for combat over to the system. That bumps the price up to about 115,000,000.
This also with a 4A Fixed Beam Laser/4x 2F Gimballed Multi-Cannons setup and a Fixed Beam is actually one of the lower costing Class 4 Hardpoints. So if you want flexibility in weapon choice and enough Cr left over for a couple of insurance costs, I'd get about 135 million before getting one.

I kind of agree. The weapons manufacturers don't have nearly the breadth of designs that the ship manufacturers have. But then again, they've really only just started working on weapons in earnest, so hopefully that will change.

At least the rifle does look nice as hell. I hope the have cleaner versions of some of these, though. I appreciate the battered aesthetic, but I take care of my weapon, damn it. Didn't they say at some point there was going to be a wear and tear damage model for weapons?

My personal nightmare as a FDL pilot is a couple of ship launched fighters or Vultures that have a bead on me and are staying out of my field of fire. The FDL simply doesn't have the turn speed to get a bead on a fighter inside its turn radius, unless the fighter royally fucks up.

That's pretty much the Vanguard, but only in concept. The ingame implementation is extremely subpar and outgunned by ships half the price.

The other ship I was going to recommend was this. It's not in that great a place balance wise at the moment, but thats because it only has smaller ships to contend with, mostly. It's a long range heavy fighter, sitting between fighters and multicrew ships, total focus on combat and dishing out damage to larger ships.

Its a combat superiority ship in every sense of the term but it sacrifices usefulness in everything else to achieve it. Enough Internals to give it everything for combat but definitely not enough to be multipurpose. Jump range is one of the absolute worst in the game; 12 Ly without RNGineering and still only gets up to 15 with it.
Smaller fuel tank than a Cobra at only 8 tonnes when its twice the Cobra's size.
Its only barely smaller than a Type-7 Transporter, a fairly large trading ship. Which means the Fer De Lance has a fairly large silhouette and surface area making it much easier to hit with Fixed weapons, the highest damaging form of Hardpoints. This also makes it a simple matter for small and nimble fighters (especially the ship launched ones) to get in close and almost never get in the FDL's sights.
Its shields are much stronger than other fighters smaller than it, especially over the ship thats generally viewed as the one right below it in combat ship progression: the Vulture. However it still doesn't come close to the shield tank monstrosities that are the Federal Corvette and the Imperial Cutter, the shields aren't even as strong as the Anaconda.
It has fantastic maneuverability for its size but heavily requires good pip management to make use of it, if you don't have at least 3 pips to ENG its pitch speed is as slow as an Anaconda.
BUT the FDL makes up for its weaknesses with: The highest speed and maneuverability of ships it's size when used correctly (only rivaled by the Imperial Clipper in speed and turning). Substantial firepower being one of the few ships with a Class 4 Hardpoint, accompanied by 4x Class 2 Hardpoints. Shields only outmatched by the 3 biggest ships in the game. And fantastic power and heat efficiency, running very cool and not requiring any power management with A Class Shields, 2x SCBs, 2x Shield Boosters, A Class Core Internals, and multiple Beam Lasers

Sorry for the autistic rant, I love this ship.

The Millennium Falcon works as a blockade runner, smuggling ship, cargo runner, stealth ship, hell it could probably work as a racer. And it's clear that it also works as an assault craft when they used it to lead the charge against the Death Star 2.0. The Millennium Falcon is by definition the quintessential multipurpose ship. I'm not asking for a Falcon in game. I'm just saying that the Caterpillar isn't the Falcon. And yes, I do want a Bebop. I have a small group of friends playing that I would love to pull Bebop ship with. That's the first SC ship design that I've found really pleasing. I hope the wings stay folded in space. It reminds me of an P-38 Lightning with those booms, I like the vectored engines too. Shame it supposedly sucks right now.

I have a sneaking suspicion that all of the SC ships will be moaned about so much by their respective pilots/targets that they'll all get turned into this unsatisfying mucus that all perform similarly and have no true character.

All I was saying is that the Constellation has always specifically been there to provide a Millennium Falcon experience with a small group of friends. That is the entire purpose of the ship, its been there since nearly the start to sell that experience as a major feature for the game. It doesn't really take any visual cues from it, but in terms of gameplay it's always had that function.

And yeah, the Carrack is kind of exactly a Bebop in terms of its shape, and having a deck on the top with a bay smaller ships come out of.

Ship roles are much, much more set in stone than I think alot of people realize. even the people spending thousands have a very limited understanding on the roles of any given ship and only see it's advantages or drawbacks over X ship while ignoring the sweet spots they fit in at. Vanguard for instance will likely be one of the better long distance fighters that don't rely on stopping for gas 3 times crossing any given system. that value can't be expressed yet but it will become clear soon enough.

Yes, i'd strongly reccommend the aurora MR over the mustang starter ship. that's the last money you ever need to spend on the game if you want to play it. SQ42 campaign is sold seperate but can be slapped onto the ship package for an extra $15

At the end of the day, exploration for example is going to come down to how well you can interpret scanner data, etc. and to a large degree luck.

There definitely is gonna be some qualitative differences between roles based on ship size, and certain professions will be more clear-cut than others.

Mining, for example. A player with a Prospector is really playing a very different game than someone with an Orion.

But with exploration? On one hand, I think you'll tend to see Auroras and Carracks looking for slightly different things. But on the other hand, I don't see how one is objectively better than the other for exploration. The Carrack may have a better sensor suite, but if CR isn't full of shit, then interpreting sensor data will be largely skill-based. You could come up with numerous examples like that.

Sure, you could argue that for two players of equal skill, the one with the better ship will "win", but in the real world that's not a very common occurrence.

you do understand that this is relevant for 3.0 right, where yes, everyone will be spawning at olisar, and flooding into levski, and arc corp, and microtech. it's something that needs to be sorted out prior to 3.0 thru 3.4 assuming they increase server numbers past 24 players. if it's not sorted out, it's something we're all going to be dealing with through the next year.
