Winning a knock down fight against an enemy lord feels much less climactic when you know you're going to have to spend an hour grinding back up the 74 troops you lost. Sure, maybe that makes sense for a low level lord, but shouldn't a major lord or a king be fed constant recruits from his holdings?

Gekokujo and Diplo.litdum change the terrain around bridges to give you them in the battle scene. That's about as deep as it goes.

Tbh it wasn't all that easy to do in the early game. Before you've got all companions levelled up and everything set up attrition can fuck you when you're fighting one marshal stack after another by yourself defending Dhirim while the other lords feast in Praven. Eventually I got rid of that shitty king though.

Ironworks are basically better in Curaw and you'll probably find another exception or two but dyeworks are generally the best long-term option. They are practically broken in Rivacheg, giving you above 1k every budget report. There's also a psychological appeal. It might take 22 weeks to get a return on a decent dyeworks (450 income), but it feels good not to be losing money on wages every week on the way as well.

Even then Nords don't laugh at ranged attacks. Shields have durability and the AI isn't perfect or even good with directing their shields.

Simple, really. Increase the chance to penetrate by a small amount. Or by a large ammount with the trade off that a penetrated shot does significantly less damage. Some shields should be nigh impossible to penetrate. A third option is to not change penetration, but just increase the damage. I hate the "annoying arrows" meme.

Also, have thrown weapons should do more health damage to shields. The idea behind the pilum wasn't to necessarily to kill the enemy, but to have the soft iron tip penetrate a shield, bend, and force the user to throw it down.

I'm playing a comfy VC campaign after the story mode as a lord of Wessex, should I stick to two rich towns and avoid tax inefficiency or just grab as many towns as I can get and overcome the penalty? I made the mistake already of picking up a village as my third fief and it makes less for me than I lose to tax inefficiency now.

And is there a way I can dump that village without giving up the attached town? It's a rich port city I don't want to have to recapture just to sort out my fief situation. I don't care if I have to cheat to do it, picking up that village was an actual mistake I thought I could sort out.

I'm a fan of the bastard sword. It functions as both a one-handed and two-handed sword. If you're getting pelted by arrows, you can whip out a shield. If not, you can tear your enemies a new one with a big 'ol two-hander.

It also has good reach. Beware to slow swing speed though.

Here's a tip: The equipment you get is based on your location. If you suck with a bow and arrow or throwing weapons, don't join a tournament in a Sarranid town. If you want to cheese tournies, go to Praven. Every single round will be on horseback and the AI can't into mounted combat, as you have learned.

so I'm having a problem with custom groupings with anon's modded 1257. the majority of the battle commands just flat out don't work. they won't stand closer or farther apart, they won't form lines. they'll advance or fall back 10 paces, follow and charge, and hold fire/fire at will but that's about it

it's not a problem with those battle commands in general as it's working just fine with the default infantry and archers groupings

How much exp troops actually need to upgrade?
I had few sparrings with peasant woman and I managed to upgrade her to huntress, it needed less experience than 5th level would suggest.
