I'm running an i7 4790k and GTX970. What's the biggest battlesize I can realistically get, and what can I do to optimize my performance for warband with a huge battlesize?

Warsword seems to run like shit regardless, so this can be for any mod. I'm really not fussy, I just want big fuckin fights.

I know that Warwolf regularly has 700 man battles, and believe 500 is the default. You could probably push 1000.

I'm sorry, but I still don't quite understand. Are you concerned that certain features of Warband aren't on classic? The differences are negligible really, Warband mostly added a new faction and minor changes, but nothing big. Plus you're on mods.

Speaking of which, mods for Mount & Blade are based on modules, so you can't really mix together mods like in Skyrim or something. If you want to play a classic mod, it's classic, warband is warband. Switching between them shouldn't be too much of an issue though.

That's fine if you stick with civil war, feels a bit tragic since 1866 was one of the definitive best mods back during Mount & Blade before Warband, so it's really polished.

Curious, but where did you get your copy of Mount & Blade? I didn't think people get them anywhere else but Steam these days

best you can do is use expendable units like mercs or try and take down as many ranged units as you can

go in there yourself and clear out the elevated positions after there's enough of a path to get there

yeah im well aware of the losses and stuff but type of castle is harder than say, Constantinople.
taking that one the total losses(killed and unconscious) was around 1400 and that was against 900 troops.

this castle i had around 1800 losses against 450 troops.

that means i have to kill all of their infantry to be able to get my men further inside the castle, and that means catastrophic losses. And even then, for some reason, they refuse to go to the remaining enemies position so there are around 50 enemies left in the castle.

I cant get in there either due to my troops blocking the way so i literally cannot take these castles(without auto resolve)

sounds like you need some heavy infantry or knights as well as a crossbow to snipe some of the enemy
might be able to cheese it if you stand at the top where all the enemies are and kill them with a pike or crossbow, making an opening
meanwhile hide your troops to the side of the castle where they can't be shot and when there's an opening tell them to charge
i've taken that castle scene before so it's completely doable without cheesing but you need heavy infantry to break the initial forces
