EA Ermor edition.

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

Because actual diplomonsters will use any tactic to confuse noobs, up to and including creating fake diplomonsters to deflect attention from their diplomonstering.

Can't beat a diplomonster (unless you can kill the entire map at the same time with less overall resources, which is certainly not impossible).
>>
How can I use a Virtue as an awake expander? What sort of research/scripting/equipment would help? I'm thinking.. F4A5 for paths.

Thank you for the help!
>>
>>161898007
What's in that big bad demon army?
>>
That was unfortunate for me, Per-En. Mind telling me which way you're heading so that my next expansion party doesn't bounce harmlessly off of yours?
>>
>>161897743
I've never used Ziz. I've heard it's good, but the D3A2 casting requirement and having to summon them individually makes them hard to get access to.

Behemoths are situationally useful. If your enemy isn't expecting them you can do a lot of damage with buffed up behemoths, but they're too expensive for general use.

Leviathans appear to fill the same role as behemoths, but are more expensive and harder to summon. Just get a behemoth instead.
>>
>>161898503
Indeed it was...although not as sad as the show, particular snakes put against indies.
I'll be taking the province north of my party, the one next to river. After that I am done with that side of mountain and will retreat, good luck with expansion.
>>
>>161898389

flesh hounds, juggernaughts, chaos harpies, chosen warriors close to becoming bloodletters. With w9n9b9.
>>
>>161898362

Air Shield Hold x 3 Attack Rear

Dies to skeletons, anything else without morale, any kind of mage that isn't a Cloud Mage (LR), Lances (both light and heavy) and also sometimes at random. Gets afflictions instantly if fighting outside dominion.

A5 is mandatory because if it does it can still make air hats. Air boosters big reason to take one, as you get air boosters and expansion. Not the best expander even so by far, but very pretty and thematic. Mistform and stuff make it better at expansion but by the time you have those expansion should be over/mostly over.
>>
>>161898007
You're doing Pankomans work Altdorf. Certainly puts my own little scrap with Morka into perspective. Next time I must remember not to trap my knights behind a wall of archers.

Ziz - flying sieging giant fear bird. Only usable in battles with buffs.

Behemoth - undead elephant with +hp. Only usable in battles with buffs.

Leviathans - underwater thing. Only usable with buffs.
>>
>>161899683
Thank you. This is exactly what I was hoping for.
I was expanding with it in a few practice games, and I'd really want it to have the forging options. And, as you said, it's pretty/thematic. But I keep occasionally getting diseases and I just hate when my SC dies before year 1 or at the end of it.

Virtue is NOT an SC. It's an expander. Against player troops, player magic, it just dies. If someone has an army a virtue can kill, they are pretty bad. By the time it has gear, enemies have Earth Grip and so on so forth.

I'm trying to fix it, but unfortunately he's helping me. If I take a long time to do my turns, that's why. Terribly sorry. >>

>>
>>161916105
Incidentally, for those of you who don't know how to tell who is strongest: Invest in some goddamn scouts you chunderflunder.

>Bbbut they cost gold I need for x
You don't need x as much as you need to know what us going on. If you depend on other players for info you will get tricked, and having two more theurgs or 40 more black plates won't make a goddamn difference.
>>
>>161918284

>40 more black plates

I'd more question why, if you have the res but not the gold, you haven't fucking killed someone yet? As MA Ulm? Passive noobs I tell you what.
>>
Speaking of passive noobs, I'm doing my second attempt at an aggressive, low-diplo game to practice early warfare and warfare in general. Since I'm not taking the extra time to set up a diplomatic web of intrigue, what's a good way to avoid walking into a gangbang? Normally I spend the first 20-30 turns sussing out alliances and building rapport with my neighbors while letting everyone else embroil themselves in conflict but being the first one to go to war has a level of liability I'm not used to.

I suppose I could just ask, but even though I love the skullduggery stuff I'm not enough of a fucknugget to say, "Hey you me fight this other guy?" then attack the first guy even though it seems like a fairly effective tactic.

>Missing the point this hard

>>161918894
Make a case for the mutual benefit of removing a guy who borders you both. Nations that are strong late game, blood nations, nations that you can bullshit about how good their expansion is, nations that have a reputation and also players who have been rude. You'll be surprised how many wars start just because one player is a dick.
>>
Magoth x Bifrons OTP
>>
>>161918894
As someone who dislikes doing diplo - you kinda have to do it anyways. You don't need to invest a huge amount of time into it, but you still need to talk to all your neighbors to figure out whose head is where. Even if you don't want their help fighting whoever you're invading, you do want them to be otherwise occupied so that they don't attack you and force you to pull mages off research and invest in dudes where you'd prefer to make more forts and labs
>>
Do all MP games use normal research speed? Is any setting more than normal for absolute madmen?
>>
LA Machakan thread
>>
>>161923638
when you play with the settings you risk making an already imbalanceable game more volatile
>>
>>161923638
More difficult makes the game incredibly unfun. Easier fucks up timings and shit. It makes the game chaotic, and I prefer it like that, but I can see why no one else does, and normal is perfectly alright
>>
I just had a neighbor I've been peaceful with go AI on me. I need to gobble them before my other neighbors do. The only open resource I can make enough summons with is blood and the access is very low without many useful crosspaths. What's the best blood chaff I can summon and buff with my research mages (should be able to communion to fogwarriors and cast some Earth buffs but not army of X yet.)
>>
>>161923638
Normal settings are pretty slow to begin with, such that even nations with good research might not complete research even in a single school and finishing research is very rare in all but the largest of games. I used to feel easy research might be preferable due to being better able to get some basic magical counters to rushes online, but nowadays I think normal research is mostly fine. However, difficult or very difficult most certainly would be too slow.

Is there a major difference between sabbaths and communions?
>>
>>161927553
Not really
The only difference is that sabbaths use a blood slave to get into one (also takes a lot of fatigue) whilst astral does it for free
Sabbaths and communions can even join together
>>
so africa given that squidward is within striking distance of winning, perhaps i could stop sieging you if you agree not to do that thing again
>>
>>161927553

Fatigue and blood-slaves required. They're otherwise the same. Communion Slaves and Sabbath Slaves go into the same pool for fatigue-sharing/path-boost purposes.

For this reason, you're generally best using Astral slaves even with Blood masters. Less slave micro and faffing about.
>>

Huge ass games with mass divides between players (i.e. Oeridia, and nothing else really) should use Difficult Research . . . since it takes twice as long to find another player.

Hello, I'd like to make sure I'm right on the results of a multi-action turn ordering issue within 1 turn.

So, magic ritual teleporting a mage(that has stealthy) to a province with orders of casting 1 spell(that uses a gem with -> retreat on an enemy army, with one province to retreat to should have that mage retreat to that once province. My question is if that enemy army is marching too that province, what happens to my mage? will their be a new battle with the mage now taking part in it? Assuming the mage can take part in both battles, could I double up on the harassing gem spell tactic?

Side question, what amount of MR makes mind hunting difficult and is it worth it to equip a 'Spell Focus' item(1 penetration, "Fool's Luck")?

Read the manual. It means that you're breaking fort defence. How much damage does's Wrathful Skies "lightning strike" do? Looking through the manual the only mention of lightning strike is as attacks on units as a -3 damage hit(which I assume to mean strength-3?) So would this do Strength-3 from the caster who casts the spell?
>>
>>161951365
The hell are you smoking, senpai? Wrathful skies hits with thunder strikes. Look up the spell in dom inspector.

https://larzm42.github.io/dom4inspector/
>>
>>161951365
It uses the same sprite as the spell lightning bolt. It could be a different arbitrary amount of damage, but the base lightning bolt damage (14) fits with my experiences with the spell.

I might test it, see what comes up.

>>161951729
>Wrathful skies hits with thunder strikes.
Hits from wrathful skies do not have the AoE bonus damage of thunder strike, and it doesn't kill humans reliably enough to be doing 26 damage per hit.
>>

Thunder Strikes hit for a low amount of damage in AoE 6 in addition to the initial AoE damage. That AoE 6 damage is the bonus I was referring to.

>but vengeful skies still hits everything in a square

Results from testing:

Wrathful skies does somewhere between 10 and 15 shock damage. I'm going to assume 14 rather than do a more specific test, everything else points to it just being a normal lightning bolt.

Wrathful skies only hits a single target in each square. This is also like a lightning bolt.

Pointy eared pricks
Have marvelous dicks
But never a woman to suck it

So those fags mope about and act crass
'til they finally see a man's ass
Then give a shout of elf joy
At a newly found human ass toy
Then they all dive in bareback and fuck it.

When they can't find a man
Because he has ran
The best they can do's make a puppet.

But the puppet's no fun
When you're man's on the run
So an elf got frustrated and struck it.

So remember if you're around elves
The wisest men all watch themselves
For regardless of manners or status or wealth,
They'll chase after your ass 'til they fuck it.

Maybe it's because I'm not a native english speaker, but that really doesn't look like rhyme to me. Guess I still got much to learn, though I can recognize rhyme in simple stuff like this

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December;
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow;—vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow—sorrow for the lost Lenore—
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore—
Nameless here for evermore.

>>
>>161971979
It ends in the same three phonemes. Two are switched but you can de-emphasize that depending on how you talk.

And I eminem doesn't use that structure much as far as I know, it's just a general weird rap structure. Eminem is mostly known for tons of internal rhyme anyway, which is missing from there.

Bats are easily removable early-game, you just have to commit and predict some raiding. If you reached late-game and won, you won't have any trouble killing Xib 1v1 early, especially with strong bless nations.

/domg/, let's discuss Quadbless Mictlan. Just what kind of a Bless is best with them?

F9 is frequently added from what I see. The bonus to their attack skill and the flaming attacks is quite useful, given the sheer quantity of attacks Jaguar Warriors can put out.

A9 is not something I've seen much of, although I suppose it could be useful in Crossbow Age, in addition to making your mages better at slinging evos.

W9 is almost mandatory due to the Defense boost and the additional attack.

E9 would compensate for the distinct lack of armour on your sacreds, as well as keep them fighting longer.

S9 might be a viable option if you're expecting Rain of Stones to factor in, but chances are it's being picked for Wish.

D9 really does add to the survivability of jags, and 2 AN MR damage adds up when coupled with a W9, or the attack density of transformed jags or eagle warriors.

N9 is practically mandatory, due to the regeneration and added HP.

B9 adds to their damage, and serves to mitigate losses from ranged attackers or evocations.

Keeping all this in mind, what's the best bless?

N9B9W9E9? N9D9W9B9?
>>
>>161992751
B9S9F9W9
>>
>>161992751
Typically F9 is added because the chassis needed for quadbless at a reasonable price has to take F9. It really isn't ideal,
>>
>>161993091
There is no such thing as quadbless at a reasonable price. The best you can do is quadbless at a physically possible price.
>>
>>161992962
What Chassis would you use for that? The closest I can get to that is a 2 dom human pretender, which is a little bit worrisome.
>>
>>161992751

E9 is mandatory or at least Ex. If you put ALL your eggs in the sacred basket they need to fight a long time and you wont have many of them.

W9 is fairly self explanatory and quickness effect is good.

F9 is great against elves, ethereal units and adds a lot more killing power, definitely up there.

D9 is extra survival and mainly AN attack, could work and its quite cheap.

N9 helps you keep your sacreds longer. Cant say no to hp and regen.

B9 is very good due to major and extra dmg from minor is also useful.

I'd say N9E9W9B9 would be best.
>>
>>161993392
that bless was a meme bless I made up as a joke, I don't think it's at all good
>>
>>161993658
I'm testing it out now, actually. It works fairly well. The S9 largely negates any heavy cavalry you come across while expanding, and everything else turns them into a blender.
>>
>>161993768
Reasonably sure any quadbless will turn any sacred that isn't a vestal or a flagellant into a monster. Doesn't mean other blesses aren't better. The one in >>161993641 is way better, I think.
>>
What's the modding tag for bringer of fortune, like what Rus' firebirds have?
>>
>>161993641
Your sacreds as Mictlan are jags, though. Their attack is honestly pretty mediocre, which means that an F bless actually does substantially increase their damage output. Your argument for E bless is sound, but given how low their encumbrance is, I'm not sure if I'd rather have F9 or E9 on them.
>>
Does fatigue reset for units with second shape?
>>
>>161994648

Did you calculate in the extra survival from 5 prot (which is a massive % increase from their normal prot) and the extra fatigue from W9?

Plus all your sacred mages will love it.

F9 is a good idea but then I think W9 is risky.
>>
>>161992751
Having tried it and tribless in blitzes, tribless is better. You still need to manage your dom to prevent your bad scales from spreading, but you get nearly twice as many jags.

>>161995282
I haven't tried it with E to see how it compares, but neither FWNB nor WNB ran into any fatigue issues.

I also think he is wrong about one shotting.

BUT.

Normal elite unit in EA has a spear/shord sword and around 13 str (revelers, maidens, fir bogl etc). Thats 19 dmg attack. Jags have 12/10 prot with E9 so they receive 7/9 dmg per hit with no DRN added. Without E9 they get hit for 12/14 dmg per hit. Jags have 18+12+8 (N9) hp so 38hp total. 7/9 dmg per hit means you need 6/5 attacks to kill a jaguar with 12/14 dmg you only need 4/3 attacks. Thats 50% more attacks to kill for E9.

Plus when you factor in attack density and regen E9 comes even more ahead.

Would it be a good thing if scales had different weights on a nation-by-nation basis? For example; MA Ermor gets +/- .1% popgrowth per Growth/Death scale because its dominion is slanted so far towards Death that you can't change it much, one way or the other. For a similar example, Abysia's native Heat is reset to 0, and the income bonus/malus is also lessened, because its dominion is so hot that you can't make it much better or worse. Or, MA Ulm's Drain has less effect on fatigue/research per scale because when you can't have negative magic, Drain 3 doesn't change much.

Obviously, the amount of design points a given scale requires/gives would also be altered according to the nation.
>>
>>162007031

Neat idea in principle, would massively overcomplicate things in practice. The current effects allow considerable variation depending on nation while still being fairly straightforward to get your head around.

Unique dominion effects are applied as unique dominion effects, independent of scales.

What's better for MA Marignon:

W9E9, W9S9 or W9N9? All of them are cheap to get on a statue or oracle, with P3H3G3Misf2

Standard W9 lets you have better scales, but I feel like knights of the chalice are good enough to win wars against basically anything in year 1 if they're dual blessed rather than just W9.

I'm leaning more towards S9W9 because S9 on an imprisoned Oracle lets you summon Seraphs with just one F empowerment and one misc fire booster, traded for or forged by a D empowered national/indie F1D1 mage
>>
>>162009478
E9N9

Your chalice knights do work if you make them tanky.

>>162003367
Have your Magic Enhanced games been fairly fun or wickedly wonky?
>>
>>162009478
S9 let's you wish for seraphs. They're cheaper that way, even accounting for GoR.

There's basically four sacreds to consider when taking a bless; Flagellants, Knights, Mages and Harbingers.

Pretty much the only way Flagellants have any value is with B9. The ability to heavily discourage mass evo is valuable and not really otherwise obtainable.

Knights benefit most from W9, not getting hit is better than tanking hits.

Mages like E minor and A minor. With both those minors you'd get A-boosters and elemental staves. Communions also like N9.

Harbingers like E minor followed by N9.

In conclusion? It depends.
>>
>>162009478
shit I fucked up, only W9S9 is easily available
>>162010013
In my testing, E9N9 doesn't work as well. In first year, on average, I lose between 1 and 2 knights, and next to no afflictions with W9S9, but I lose substantially more than that with N9E9, to the point where I lose my expansion parties to heavy cav and such, which doesn't happen at all with W9S9
>>
>>162011015
I've had plenty of fun in Summod with sloth Marignon taking F9S9B9 on an imprisoned Baphomet and pillaging to produce hordes of flags
>>
>>162010671
Late game's still a slog, but the units I'm slogging with are different. ME stuff is, in general, vastly better than vanilla stuff, so nations that have ready access to it are stronger overall. 1.2 nerfed some of the more egregious stuff, but a lot's still there.

>>162011015
Fun fact - summod makes all the angel spells cheaper. Seraphs in particular are much cheaper and worth summoning with the national spell now.

Sacred 0 upkeep free spawn that can be summoned using your recruitable mages is significantly more useful imo
Games end way before you have access to the SC's, so the most you'll likely see are a bunch of Harbingers that may or may not pay off

Marveni has access to Golems anyways
>>
>>162023762

Every time i've seen a mari they've been made of pure failure. They aren't a terrible nation but people who play them seem to be entirely noobs who have beat up the AI.

N9E4 is a bless i've seen recently - they killed a weak Arco and then died horribly to MA Man, possibly the weakest nation in the game. Chalice Knights just aren't a good investment - they cost so much and if you took that gold and turned it into witch-hunters (fire elemental blockers) and crossbows you'd be better off. Someone hits Destruction and it's Game Over.

Summod has free flaggies and sure you can bless the crap out of those and make infinite of them and so on, but I think that is getting patched out/has been patched out of summod, so you're back to Chalice knights and relying on snowballing with a unit that can be destroyed by relatively early spells in 3 trees.

Potentially you can bless and use and transition out from Chalice Knights but I feel like pure scales rainbow or pure scales expander (notably a rainbow that can make air hats so each harby is a turn1 fog warriors caster) is just straight up better.
>>
>>162013972
>marveni boars
>good sacreds
Pick only one. Boars are trash, and only usable because B9 is broken when used with freespawn.
>>
>>162024579

Yep. People going 'boars lol' are judging from blitzes or singleplayer - anything they can't trample blocks them, and arrow fire kills them in droves and sure you lose archers but so what? Elementals also kill them, are size 6, MR, etc, you don't care if they die to BV, so on.

Games won with boars are the ones that used boars as little as possible. In fact, they generally credit the blessed boar warriors with more than the boars, and transitioned to proper mage use etc so on.
>>
>>162024220
N9Ex serves a triple purpose, though. It turns Chalice Knights into great expanders, it gives your mages some resistance to EQ traps and reinvigoration, and it is excellent on angel thugs and SCs.

It's very economic, and while it lacks the laser focus of a bless like W9S9 or what have you, it serves it's intended function very well and allows you to take some pretty good scales to leverage your expensive battlemages and crossbows more effectively.

They only require an investment of 7 gems per autosummoner though, and the paths are available on rec-anywhere national mages, and the spell is only 5th level in a school that that the nation likes to reach 3-4 in anyways.

There's no reason you couldn't pick them up along the way even if you didn't have a bless for them; free meatshields are nothing to scoff at, especially when it has good stats for the job. With a bless included, there'd be no reason to not take them; excepting a fear of Beast Mastery/Master Enslave.
>>
>>162024220
They're not so good in big fights, but can be useful if you're not having them tank enemy spells. They'll trade favorably with a lot of troops, you just need to bait mage support away from shooting at them.

Half a dozen N9Ex knights and a friar makes an expendable raiding party with low attrition.

>notably a rainbow that can make air hats so each harby is a turn1 fog warriors caster
That's doable without a rainbow. Trade for earth boots (or in worst case, empower E1 to E2 for 30 gems), and you can make crystal shields. They're only slightly more expensive than air hats, and you will certainly want to break into earth for lategame anyway.

>>162024930
It's not so much that boars aren't useful (chaff which kills stuff as it tanks hit is great, and your enemy countering the boars means they're spending less effort countering your actual tactics) as that B9 makes any trash sacred useful so long as it's cheap.

The only really nasty counter to boars is mass-enslave to turn them against you, which comes out very late and is expensive to deploy.

>>162026751
>free meatshields are nothing to scoff at
Absolutely. I love having boars for chaff.

They're just not good troops. If you meant they're good for the cost (basically nothing), then I agree.
>>
>>162024930
Boars are for making enemy mage support kill itself. It's difficult but not impossible to counter. The fact that you're talking about 'blocking' them shows that you have absolutely no idea what you're chatting.

>elementals kill them

okay, those elementals that are killing the boars and dying to BV are not killing mages or more worthwhile troops instead of freespawn

Vengeful Water killed a handful of mages every turn, Strands of Arcane Power feebleminded or killed about the same amount. No idea if Wrath of God even did anything meaningful.

Enemies spamming evo against a bless deserve to die. That's not the only thing mages can do, and not really what marverni needs to worry about. Massed marverni troops are not as vulnerable to evo spam as nations of small numbers of elite troops.

>boar warriors

The one time I heard someone who won a game with a bless strat for marverni talking about it, he said the major advantage of the bless was that early people had trouble with the boar warriors, and it gave him a foothold. Generally the boars themselves were just chaff and the bless didn't seem to matter much for that use.

How long it lasts can vary. Massively. So can how fast turns happen. RubADub which just finished went quite quickly by virtue of everyone taking their turns pretty fast overall.
>>
>>162039602
>>162039540
Am I actually using the game to play these or am I just telling the host what to do with me in his game, chess style?
>>
>>162039725
The host emails you a .trn file containing the instructions to display the turn. You open the turn in your copy of the game, do your turn, and then submit a .2h file to the host which contains your orders.
So, yes and yes.
>>
>>162039885
That's pretty cool. I'll have to try that once I learn to stop being so shamefully bad.
>>
>>162031592
Because it doesn't need air gems, and an A3 caster without air gems isn't as good as something which can take provinces solo.

>>162031925
>Expensive with your limited E access
E isn't harder to search for than A on marignon. For a long while your only E/A is 1 point on cap-only mages. Once you can search at a higher level with A3 via harbingers, you can also do that with E3 via Troll Kings.

Air hats also need a lot more air gems than crystal shields need earth gems, at the cost of shields eating into your pearl supply a bit. If you're having trouble getting enough E/A, crystal shields hurt your supply a lot less.

>Countering small group raiding with ubiquitous mage support
Most mages can't counter raiding without either gems or decent numbers.

In the first case, he's going to burn through his gems quickly, especially if you start baiting gem usage with retreat orders when you see enemy mages.

In the second case, send something nastier when you see mages and get his counter-raiding killed.

>>
>>162060184
I played in a Dom4mods no diplomacy game once and in that game at least you didn't really have fully committed wars. You might snatch a couple of provinces from a big player (who of course shared borders with most players through virtue of being big) without fear of counterattack. The big player would likely recapture the provinces at some point of course, but they wouldn't want to overextend themselves and actually counterattack. Neighbours being able to snack on big players this way is an anti-snowball mechanism not present in standard games.

Similarly, snowballing in standard games is the most prone to happen when you identify a time to pounce - a moment where other players CAN'T respond due to diplomatic inertia of already having been locked to their older conflicts and an average /domg/ player being too stubborn or paranoid to make white peace. Because there's no diplomacy (and subsequently, a state of committed war), de facto stalemates occurred often and that presents the players involved with an opportunity to switch gears and perhaps go after one of the big guys. It seems to me better players generally are more willing to negotiate a peace to respond to a threat, but compared to how our mixed skill games tend to be, no diplomacy house rules might actually help players to find the will to change their targets.

Ultimately, that doesn't mean it's not snowball or die kind of format: you're less likely to win with worse early-midgame nations than you'd be with standard diplomacy, but in my experience based on one game, the difference isn't as dramatic as you might think because there were factors to compensate.

>>

>>
>>162062202

In general using your god as a Thug is not a great idea. With those paths he'd make a great late-game army support caster, being able to throw up both Fog Warriors and Army of X with boosters.

Aside from that, your gear choice is bad. You can't gear a thug properly before Const 4, and it's fairly pointless trying. The Horror Helmet is fine. The Bracers of Prot are acceptable and cheap. Everything else is not good.

If I had to restrict it to Const 2, I'd say your best bet for "thugging" a Tiwaz is trample boots and two Eye Shields. Probably throw on a Not-Enc-5 armour and a Horror Helm as well. But even then he's gonna die to large amounts of PD or indies, because he's got no reinvig.

an awake snake isn't as good as some of the awesome stuff that they can afford, but it still HELPS, which is the point. >>
>>162078184
Yes. The mindflayers use a portal to call things through the Void to serve them. This portal, unfortunately, leaks, spreading madness throughout the seas. Eventually it's this madness, rather than outright conquest, that destroys the other undersea empires. The illithids can resist it, but most of their dominion is in shambles due to the madness of their subjects.

Eventually, the Atlanteans return to the sea, where some of their people have discovered how to resist the madness. The Once and Future Queen hid pockets of their ancient guardians which, having slept beneath the light of the Dark Crystal, became immune to the magic of the Dreamlands.

Underground provinces is a nice idea but a bad meme.

This is true. The devs did not expect or for a long time realize that clam economies were a thing. Then they waited until Dom 4 to do something about it.

These are probably the most interesting, but I also like how Ulm evolves (from barbarian tribes, through almost industrial-like kingdom, ending with grimdark transylvania with illuminati.
Abysia is one of the most tragic stories. Cool (pun intended) lava people that get tricked by a shapeshifted demon and start dabbling in blood magic. This causes they volcano to cool down, which forces them to increase their blood efforts and pollute their bloodlines with humanfolk. Rinse and repeat, one fake warlock destroys a whole race.
also, Caelum, which influences ranges from Nazca to Pythium to Tien Chi to Ragha, with its own evolution interesting in itself. But Zoroastrianism is cool overall.
On the other hand, the evolutions of Vanheim, Giantheim and notJapan are boring. It's just the "magic dies, get humans" trope.

They have low upkeep and punch above their weight with the right bless effects.
They're most important for nations with shit troops that don't benefit so well from a scales build. You use them for expansion and early game wars.
>>
>>162123291
Depends on your nation and strategy, but they are a highly customizable component of your strat and can fill a variety of roles.

>>162123803
what?
>>
>>162123291

People here can't explain for shit

Sacred troops are the only troop that can be given the bless of your god, which is whatever magic paths you picked on your pretender gods creation. Water 9 for example gives bonus defense, and also the Quickness ability.

They need to be blessed by a priest first however for the effect to start working. After that they gain the full effect of whatever bless effect your god gives.

Sacred troops are also cheaper than other troops to maintain(I think they cost 25% of the yearly maintenence they were supposed to have). This is super valuable for mages that are sacred, as you can amass many of them without financially ruining yourself.

Every nation has sacred troops, although some are trash. Some also have national summon spells that can bring out sacred beings, such as the Se'ir for Hinnom/Berrytos, or the Angels that Marignon can summon

>>
>>162128936
Having played with F4B9, I'd have much rather E4B9 and used Infernal Crusade.

Se'ir, especially those without an E minor, are extremely prone to being massively bogged down late in fatigue fights, due to being incapable of punching through fog warriors. They're extremely good early, and thus void the need for contracts, but later on I'd rather more demon knights (or storm demons, if you can get your hands on them).
>>
>>162129354
Banes are pretty decent if you get a D random, they're tanky and command 120 undead/demons and can wear winged boots if you can get a hold of them. Otherwise Mound Kings are doable.
>>
>>162129389
Yeah, Infernal Crusade is good. I should get Daddy Pedo to cast it for me, or empower my pretender in E when the time comes.

I'd imagine str 28 Se'irim with Weapons of Sharpness have a good enough chance of popping mistform even with mundane attacks.
>>
>>162130214
I've been using mound kings for my fiery imps (13 per 2 slave cast, decent enough cost-effectiveness) but for the devils I'd like to take advantage of their flight. Flying boots are on the table magewise, but I've got a whopping A income of 1 gem/turn.

What happens if you throw 500 flying undead monkeys against cold, metallic hands?

I'll be honest, this is one of the more boring games I've played, no online butthurt, no banter, no coalitions. I wanna say that the 1 week break killed the livelihood but it was kinda like this before too.

Had some really tense games before, filled with drama and people posting cropped reaction images on every battle-report. Every time a new turn came out I was nervous that my tactics failed and everyone else is laughing at my expense. Every time someone attacked someone else, they'd make several walls of text coupled with images to show him as the biggest baddest guy for people to jump and stop the growing threat. It was fun.

This one however was quiet as hell. People dying and going AI left and right but barely any mention anywhere. I have no idea who fought who (outside of my own scouts and in-game diplomacy) and what's everyone's personality like. I can't even remember what nations were in the game at the beginning besides my neighbors.

But ONLY games in the best age! And with the right mods! And the right settings!

Is this a good pretender for MA xibalba? Just bought the game, praticing against AI
>>
>>162178978
Probably not, no. It doesn't have a useful bless, it has an expensive off-path that probably cuts into your scales, it has WAY too high dominion, and the spellcasting that it offers either requires gems that you can't natively sitesearch for (astral) or gives stuff that you can already reach with national magic.

That said, you can teleport it onto an AI army and wipe them out, since the AI is incapable of killing monoliths
>>
>>162178978
Get E6 snek.
>>
>>162179297
MA Xib got noone to bless.
>>
>>162179521
You can thug K'uhuls with an N9 bless. Having that then lets you get clean generic N9 infantry expansion.

It's almost certainly not better than an awakesnake or a similar expander, but it's worth considering if you also want the big N or an immobile for some reason
>>
>>162179521
They got frogs and jaguars dont they?
>>
>>162179778
They don't get Ozzies, and Obsidian warriors are pretty bad.
>>
>>162180117
MA Xib is pretty bad in general, so it's not an argument.
>>
>>162180295
Well, yes but they're only alright, even when Summod makes them rec-anywhere. Also frog units are pretty much what makes MA Xib so bad.

Can Astral Tempest kill the caster of Astral Tempest?
>>

Yes. Soul Drain affects the caster too, but it's mostly irrelevant because of how much health is transferred from enemies.

Is it odd if I don't start researching one bit year 1?

I needed to use a lot of my magepriests to lead sacred troops around. My expansion has been great, but I haven't put down a single RP for research and its winter.

I'm finally putting down some actual mages, but I want them out to start sitesearching, further delaying my research. Is this a wise move or should I start getting the RP up?
>>
>>162183912

It depends

If you have a strong bless with great sacreds, focusing more on sending dudes out for expansion parties is understandable.

If you're a scales nation, you should probably be thinking more about research.
>>
>>162181694

Fine, fine. Joining Thirteen.
>>
>>162183912
You can always catch up on research: if your mages sitesearch turns 10-15 and then research 15-20, you'll have as much research by turn 20 as if you'd do the opposite, but you also have 5 turns worth of gem income you otherwise wouldn't have gotten. Same deal with gold income from capturing provinces, except that in this case gold income actually translates to more research in the long run because you can recruit more or better mages, and if an enemy captures independent provinces first, that income is off-limits for you at least for the time being.

In other words, conquest and site searching are the better long-term investment. The question is if you need to reach a specific research goal to fight early.
>>
>>162182401
Not if the caster is a golem
>>
>>162181694

Considerinign joining thirteen as Jomon, but last I played them they were absolute trash. I still believe they are trash. Is there an innovative strategy I can run?
>>
>>162184804

No. If you aren't intentionally playing a trash nation to hone your skills, don't play them. Even in summod - still trash.
>>
>>162185237

b-b-but my katana folded a million times
>>
>>162185314
>>162184804
I'd like to see a jomon player that spammed out the astral mages and pretended that they were arco with their elemental communions
>>
>>162186585

What, the STR ones? Hah. You're better off with master shugenja randoms, wasted paths and useless mages and all.
>>
>>162186761
That's the prevailing way to play Jomon, yeah, and it might even be the best way given that any of the e2 guys are already useful (which is a reasonable number).

I just think that given the ability to communion up and the fact that S2 on its own can do stuff means that an Omyo-ji strategy would be fairly flexible in the field, with the ability to retool your script with the same mages to answer different threats.

I do get that it's trying to do something that Arco is almost certainly going to be better at, but I haven't seen it done and it might lead to more success than the elemental-only strats I've seen.
>>
>>162184804
They're still trash. Master Shugenja have too much variance and the S2 guys are StR but otherwise good.

The prime Jomon strategy is still 'mad rush into the sea year 1' so you can recruit Ryujin. You could maybe try to rush Kenzoku/Shura research and then field as many of those as you can in the early-mid game, buff them with Shuggies, then hope to god nobody memes all over you with early counterthug tactics.

What's the cheapest recruitable size 6 commander? I want to make a fuck cheap trampling thug
>>
>>162192732
You may want to settle for size 5 if you want a cheap trampler thug, my dude. Size 6 recruitables are pretty rare. The cheapest are actually Nazca's Mallqui, but they don't have boots or body slots. The cheapest size 6 that you can put stymph wings on is the Machakan Hunter Lord and the only recruitable size 6 that can wear boots is the Fomorian King.
>>
>>162192732
Speaking of size whats the single biggest creature in the game?

The Monument.
>>
>>162193109
Tartarians. A bunch of them are size 6 and they're cheap to summon. slapping stymph wings or trample shoes on a feebleminded one is a pretty decent use for them.
>>
How does LA R'lyeh work, exactly? And how much would I regret playing them if I'm inexperienced enough to be asking this question?

I want to try an underwater nation and they seem interesting, but I've heard things about micromanagement.
>>
>>162193587
Their dominion makes everything but a few units go insane and they get tons of freespawn. If you are playing vanilla the freespawn costs upkeep so you constantly need to ferry them to their deaths so you dont go broke. Sometimes crazy people become prophets even when you have a prophet though which is nice.

If I was to recommend anunderwater nation to begin with though I'd probably say EA Atlantis.
>>
>>162193587
>>162194107
If you find R'lyeh interesting in general as I do, you may want to try MA R'lyeh instead. They lose out on a few national spells, but they have otherwise identical units and they don't suffer from the madness dominion and associated popkill, making them much easier to play.
