think about this:

-these people were playing vanilla XCOM 2

-they likely weren't even playing legendary

I'll be the first to admit, rulers did make the game more difficult overall, they're absolute bastards.
but that's gotta be the whiniest thread I've seen in a while, there's legitimate criticisms, but then there's straight up bitching about being shit.

Why is EW considered better than X2 by some people? I played both but EW never hooked me and after one campain I did not feel like coming back. With Xcom 2 Im currently on my 3rd campain and I'm enjoying it more than i ever did EW. Is it just a taste thing? Or just nostalgia and remembering a game better than it actually was?
>>
>>161923919
Base EW doesn't really get praise, it's a shallow cinematic game made to be played once for the story. LW is what's better than X2, it's a much bigger game, with more viable options, deeper strategy and a lot more stuff to juggle.
>>
>>161924192
Oh right. Do you think I should try it?
One thing that scares me off is campain time. Im afraid i might just get bored with it and not play it anymore. Or that I lose a campain I invested a ton of time into.
>>
>>161923461
Thank you.
>>
>>161924365
I've never completed a campaign because I always get bored halfway but I've still had hundreds of hours of fun with it. If you really want to get a win, there's a second wave option for a shorter campaign which should work well

I'm right here, always am(almost). There's no news worth mentioning, i'm still working on it haven't even finished the conventional attachments.

Haven't really settled on how i want the weapons to function either, right now all they do is mark targets that they hit, don't know if i'll make them do anything else, maybe do a little more flanking damage.
>>
>>161927612
How many effects do you want them to have? How many can you add? Can you have the upgraded tiers have more effects:
standard: mark target
upgrade: mark target, more flank damage
elite: mark target, more flank damage, shreds armor
Just an example. Or what about rounds that can lower will? How many effects can you add that don't require you to actually hit the target? How accurate will they be? What's the base damage.
>>
>>161927848

Well, originally the mod was just going to add some new ayys with smgs, but whenever i start making a mod i start going crazy and i keep doing stuff, in this case i decided i would make a captain for the Advent Scouts, and then i figured i would give him a new weapon that marks targets that he hits, and then i figured might as well give the weapon to Xcom too, and now i'm thinking "maybe if it just marks targets it isn't that cool". To answer your questions though:

I don't know. Potentially as many as i want(i think). Yes.

The mod does actually have a new ammo type(it's a secret though), uh, i dunno, i don't think there's a limit. They are probably going to be pretty accurate but deal little damage, probably around as much dmg as an SMG. Like i said i haven't settled on anything yet but the idea i have on my head right now is that maybe they could deal as much damage(or less) than an SMG normally, but if you flank with them they could deal as much damage as a normal rifle(or more).

I paid full price for once and still feel like I got my moneys worth. It's a good game with a lot of replayability stemming from the modding scene, with more to come on that front down the road. All in all, if you really liked XCOM:EU get it no questions asked. If you were on the fence about it/thought it was okay get XCOM2 on sale, maybe down the line when its bundled with its inevitable EW-tier expansion.

If you make the mags smaller/remove them entirely you could convert it into a carbine/semi-sniper like LW had-- basically gets a 2-3 shot clip (compared to the AR's 4) in exchange for a small buff to accuracy/a flatter range bonus.

If it were to function like you're thinking, marking/holotargeting on successful hits, visually I'd give it a larger optics package- a big fat scope with antennas n shit. So it can transmit that targeting data autonomously to the rest of the squad.
And, there'd have to be a big tradeoff to avoid it being OP too (unless you intend for it to be used with difficulty mods).

As-is looks great fwiw.

I don't know about XCOM 2, but vanilla/Enemy Within were great concepts ruined by the devs not thinking ahead and higher-level play revolves entirely around manipulating A.I. and cheesing every possible situation, which really kills my interest.

EVERYTHING gets more depth.

But the game is balanced around the cheesiest of tactics. Like kiting berserkers back & forth through CCS overwatch. Or stacking every debuff known to man in order to bring down that 90-HP sectopod titan before he starts stomping people.
Core concepts like paying attention to LOS & making use of overwatch traps are still in full force, so if that triggers you that's that.

But it'd be a shame if it does, because it's pretty fun to play once you know what's going on.

With timed missions is better to aggressively use your resources and grenades against the first couple of pods? To speed up missions and to kill a pod before the next patrol wanders into you. Quite often I won't run into the last ayys on a map until I've already caught up to the objective.
>>
In LW, if you managed to get a squad of all MECs, would that work out or are MECs designed to support human teams and lack some abilities humans have?
>>
>>161941842
One of the best changes of LW was that it removed the high damage that made it necessary to cheese I/I. The main problem for EU highlevel play is that it's practically impossible to make your soldiers reliably survive one hit, so it all revolves around manipulating the AI into not shooting at all.

In LW you can for the entirety of the game maintain a healthy buffer between the HP of your soldiers and the average damage of the strongest common ayy, so you can leave soldiers in cover in line of sight of ayys and be certain that nobody is gonna die unless they get hit twice in the same turn.
>>
>>161886729
>>161886525
FUCK AIRGAME
>>
>>161965931
It would be extremely expensive and very overkill. MECs are basically humans+, the soldier becomes better at almost everything, the main downside is the cost.

You'll miss out on a couple useful things like officers (command) and mind merge, and if you add two-three fleshy soldiers to fill those duties you basically have the dream team.

They're tough but beatable.

>>161972795
Bullshit. They should have kept to the mechanics if possible. Changing it up mid-game feels cheap.

>>161972927
This is the real (sole) reason it is the way it is.
Because of their prolific use of mission timers, if they'd gone with the HP bloat+defense then an alien ruler spawning would have been (much more of) an instant-loss. So to prevent the fuckers from being alpha-damaged right the fuck down with everything else, but ensure the fight doesn't take more than 1-2 turns, they invented the new mechanic.
And it works, kinda.

Fuck I'm retarded.

Not sure about OpenXCOM, but in the original the biggest trick I knew was to rush for laser weapons & heavy laser in particular- you could build & sell them for a profit.
Otherwise skip to the plasma pistol- it's straight-up better than anything laser & you get tons of them. Till then the heavy grenade launcher (not the auto-cannon) is the best armament for your troops.
When building new bases, keep in mind Ayys can find them and when they do they can only spawn in the hangars & elevator. So the Meta is to keep them isolated from the rest of the base, creating a chokepoint to defend.

More on the tactical side: keep in mind you can arm/reload grenades/weapons with one trooper & pass it to another. Hot-potato is real.
Everyone has squad sight, so put your most accurate troops in an elevated position & scout for them.
On night-time terror missions, if lids have started showing up, give rookies HE primed for 0 and send them to scout. Their sacrifices will be remembered.

One thing I noticed at first was I think at every map there is one more pod than Commander(including Gatecrasher), and you have to use a lot of different soldiers. If a soldier gets gravely wounded(which happens with like one hit at the beginning of the game) they get hospitalized for more than a month. Building AWC also takes about 2 months. Other than those I think others are things that you'd expect already, like enemies getting more health, etc

Not him, but I find the hardest part of Legend is the wound times wearing you down in the first month. In EU it didn't really matter if you went into the second mission with rookies, it was still going to be the same sectoids you fought in the first mission. In XCOM 2 you have timers and reinforcements in addition to officers and sectoids.

That being said I think there's more leeway in fucking up the first month and dragging yourself back up in the second.

Aside from the flavor of not being a 6-man power ranger squad, you're supposed to actually lose men and even missions. And I didn't say the base game was good either. There shouldn't be any levels, and skills should be assigned through medals. Losing a squaddie wouldn't be an issue as much since you could slap on some armor and a decent weapon and have someone who is green, but still useful even in the late game.

>If you don't kill the enemy in one turn the enemy will fuck you up.

Because XCOM is more about risk management than traditional turn based strategy. The short, single turn to resolve, nature of it means the tactical game is a series of high impact decisions.
>>
>>161987292
What everyone has said.
The possibility of losing men, having a larger/more diverse garrison, managing the fatigue & injuries in a more realistic manner- you can send out fatigued troopers but they'll come back with a light injury if you do. Maybe that's not worth it for some crashed small, but fuck if you find a landed supply boat right after fatiguing your best troops training some rookies it might be worth it.

Your medals idea sounds gamey &, more importantly, casual.
It'd let people have losses but without any consequences, without needing to plan ahead.
>You did something stupid and got one of your oldest hands killed?
>LOL just grab some guy and slap the vet's old equipment on him, good as new!
LW's system requires you to constantly be training up would-be replacements, carefully balancing squads between old vets that can carry & rooks who can learn.
That's some good shit.
>>
>>161987292
>Enlighten me.
The fatigue system forces you to train rookies. Every mission, I ask myself "how hard is this?", and I bring the least experienced soldiers I'm comfortable bringing - for example the average abduction will require one-two guys from the A-team and everyone else will be B-team. A crashed small UFO is an opportunity to add one or even two PFCs to the squad. Usually it's not fatigue that constrains me from bringing experienced soldiers, it's my desire to prepare for the future by training the entire roster. You're running a military organization and actually have to think about succession.

This isn't just roleplay, it's trading off the safety of always fielding the strongest soldiers (almost no chance of mission failure) versus making sure you have a robust roster (individual missions are riskier but you can take more of them, and absorb casualties/wounds). You're asked to judge the difficulty of missions constantly. It's a minigame of its own.

The ability to lose soldiers and even missions was already brought up. LW is the only modern XCOM that handles this correctly, because of the fatigue system. Maybe you have a better idea with medals, but I prefer LW-style disposable soldiers a lot more than UFO defense-style ones, since having actual skills and soldiers and builds to manage contributes a lot to the game.

Fatigue also contributes to the tradeoffs of modifying your soldiers with psi/gene mods. It's more controversial than the rest of it, but I think it's overall positive that it makes you think twice about every secondary perk you give to a soldier.

Remember when XC2 hype was at its peak ?
Firaxis kept revealing the new enemies and everyone shat their pant thinking about melee mutons, burrow lids and mind control sectoids in first month

Fast forward a year and the number/type of pods are rather irrelevant, all you see are nameless red bars who will all get vaporized in one turn anyway

I'm salty as fuck there's no LW2, all these maps and that customization wasted on a bland gameplay

It could be a mix of ribbons and medals. Ribbons are awarded for completing training in the military. It could be base abilities, like run and gun or heavy weapons. Medals could further define the soldier with various abilities.

XCOM 2 is The Force Awakens of XCOMs.

Yes and no. I just think that you can decide you don't like something, but also recognize that it's still an objectively good/well-done/fun etc. for people other than yourself, and that you just have different tastes. I can't handle spicy foods so I don't enjoy them, but I know that this isn't because spicey foods are objectively bad.
LW is objectively good, but not everyone has to like it just because it's good, because it delivers an experience for a specific type of player and is not for everyone.

I don't care if he doesn't like LW, his opinion becomes "wrong" when he decides that the reason must be because it's shit.

I think by virtue of the setting choice they dug themselves into a corner. Xcom "modern" is the de-facto xcom for people. When you venture off the reservation it can leave people uneasy - whether handsome solomon with terror from the deep or those of us turned off by the near future resistance angle. I use to criticize Solomon's comments about TFTD not jiving with him because of how otherworldly it was but I can see where he is coming from when I am in one of the advent shiny chrome cities.

And there's this weird paradox where on the one hand I love the map generations and the fact that we have them but on the other hand I get this tunnel-vision mode where I don't care to consider the greater map, I just narrowly focus on cover and movement and all that.

I know why I liked Xcom2012 in various ways over Xcom2 but I can't for the life of me quite articulate why.
>>
>>161995985
Shit piled on top of shit is still shit, anon. The base game was flawed. The mod tried to fix it by bloating it with redundant crap that wasn't even in the game that spawned the fans to begin with.
>>
>>161996194

Oh one area that I clearly know why is landed UFOs. They were one of the most tense operations you could have in Xcom2012 and I liked the variety of UFOs. It felt almost like alien/aliens/space hulk in clearing them.

In xcom2 you get 1 landed UFO and with the mod that adds them you still get 1 medium UFO that is made of paper mache and easily has the entire map's pods fall down on you. AND you get 6 turns to rush in and turn off a console or either the map ends or something bad happens.

That's one thing I really want in the expansion. More landed UFOs or something of a half indoors half outdoors facility.
>>
>>161984212
Yeah I noticed that, my GateCrasher was flawless and my second mission was going well, but I was one tile away from securing the data chest and lost the mission. Shit
>>
You know what I'd like? A mod that enhanced the "Resistance" angle XCOM 2 plays with, more precisely the desperation of finding recruits and the anything goes sort of mentality.

I think this could be achieved with a "trait" system. A trait would consist of a combination of two perks, one positive, one negative, which could be chosen from three tiers.

So let's say, a tier 1 perk would be either a small bonus buff, which would have to be tied to another tier 1 negative perk, which could be a situational disadvantage.

For example, "well-taught" could give +2 to aim, but would have to be coupled with something like "bloodthirsty"/vengeful", which would cause the soldier possessing it to automatically open fire to any Dark VIP within 3 tiles (like CCS).

Tier 3 would be pretty good advantages that would have to be combined with a crippling flaw. "Juggernaut" would allow the soldier to shrug 3 damage of one attack each turn, but it would have to be coupled with a pretty fucked up disadvantage, like "Arachnophobic", which would give him a pretty big chance to panic while in proximity to a Chryssalid.

The soldiers would be randomly generated with up to 2 traits, with the chance of getting no traits ("Average Joe/Jane"). For it to be perfect, you should also be able to select traits in the Character Pool, but not the campaign soldier editor.

Wait there is a mod about that

I have this one
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=695216006

That makes each soldier a bit different and makes you think who you will take on each mission.
I have a sniper that only rekts shit on small towns, other soldier who only gets a buff when he is with other with the same rank.
An assault that when he gets injured gets a ton of different buffs depending on how damaged he is or other who is scared of machines but is great killing organic ayys.

Little things like that spice up each individual soldier, add this mod plus Not Created Equally and you get very interesting indivudal soldiers for recruitment.

Also for the sake of it, add:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=660665065

Where if the squad goes though a lot of missions together and they become friends, they get buffs between each other because they are friends, but if one of them dies, well get ready to see those mental rolls and whoever was the closest to that soldier, will probably panic.

Also add all these mods with the Guerrilla War mod and you get some sort of real XCOM 2 resistance angle on the whole thing.

Going through the modlist in the op and found this:

>A Better AI - http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=671648634&searchtext=a+better+ai
>This mod is basically a cut-out of the AI features from the A Better ADVENT mod. It generally makes the enemies smarter and slightly more unpredictable. It is unlike Advanced AI in the sense that it doesn't shy away from altering the role alien units fill altogether, and that it actually adds new variables rather than shifting around values in the old ones. For instance, no longer are Stunlancers dedicated suicidal melee fanatics, but will instead consider going for a rifle-shot if it does the same amount of damage without risking putting themselves in a flank. The tactical layer plays fairly differently with this mod enabled - in many ways, it is more reminiscent of Long War's unpredictable AI than it is XCOM2's rigid one. Overall this makes enemies behave more rationally, thus increasing difficulty. Note that it clashes with the Advanced AI mod.

Hey /xcg/

I have never modded something before and would like to start with XCOM 2. A simple one I thought up today is adding voiceover packs from the Chaos Marines in 40k: Dawn of War, since there are collectively enough lines to fill out a couple variations and one set for Spark.

What do you guys think?

Are there modding communities that discuss how to do these kinds of things?

This is fucking great I love it.

You can field a squad of ayys mixed with soldiers and there are so many fun ways to fuck around with your opponent. I wish I had friends so I had someone to play this with, right now I'm at the mercy of the miniscule online player pool.

Alright lads, I finally got done updating the OP modlist for X2, as well as the MEGA and Steam collections therein. All in all I've added about 30 new mods to the steam collection and pastebin, and about 75 to the MEGA which hadn't been updated since early june.

Modlist:
MEGA:
Steam Collection:

>But anon, why have a MEGA as well as a steam collection?
For people who are poor (poor as rock), basically. Piratefriends asked for it so made sense to make one. It can also include mods that aren't/can't be on the Workshop, such as stuff taken down by DMCA claims. That one Planetside 2 mod being a prominent example.

A lot of mods such as Titanfall Gear, WA's Armor Pack, Additional Mission Types and others also got updated within the MEGA because of new, major features which have been added to those mods since they were first put in there. Not every mod got this treatment though, so if you're aware of a mod that has changed significantly for the better since it released let me know and I'll put the newest version in. Also removed some mods which were either deprecated by patches and other mods, or those directly in competition with better mods. In practice, this meant that beyond unnecessary "fixes" a ton of weapon mods were also removed simply because E3245's dropped a better version since they were added. Should keep the bloat of the modlist in check for a while longer, and I've tried to restructure it a bit to make it as easy to use as possible.

Finally, for anyone who's interested but doesn't want to go through an admittedly huge modlist just because it got a mid-sized update, here's a list of all the stuff that are new to it and not just the MEGA:

As always, holler about it if you have any objections or additions. I'm generally around.

Sorry for the long-ass blogpost

I've been tweaking my balance for ages now and it would be great fun to do some low-quality storyposting again, but I haven't even gotten past midgame on the balance I'm running. If I actually do storypost it, I want to actually be able to complete the campaign. I still want it to be painstakingly difficult with soldiers kicking it all the time though, which makes it a bitch to middleground.

Tbqh I'm just glad somebody still remembers that shit, man I loved that campaign

>>162030810
Go into your install directory, XCOM 2/XComGame/Mods. Create that "mods" filepath if it doesn't exist. Extract the 7zip files in the MEGA into that directory - don't unpack the folders once they're in that folder though, leave them as is once extracted. Start up ModLauncherWPF.exe from XCOM 2/Binaries/Win64/Launcher. Depending on how many mods you picked up this WILL take a while because of how god-awful XCOM2 is at handling multitudes of mods. Once you're done, activate all of your mods within that launcher by pressing checkmarks or pressing activate all depending on which version you have. At that point you will probably get a crash because you're running a pirated version, but that's a-okay. Start XCOM2 as normal from your cracked .exe file. Your mods should be loaded.

If that doesn't work, you can make a .txt file manually but that's fucking tedious so try this first

>>162031207
y-you too

>>162032284
Fairly certain they have to shoot it down just like any other sat, but don't quote me on it. Depending on which month you're in base assault is definitely doable with GSGTs and Gauss, just take it very slow. I believe in you anon.

>>
>>162036669
How bad are repairs in the late game? Last time i played they weren't that bad for laser-tier weapons
>>
>>162037060
Punishing as hell. The issue I take with repairs is that they force you to buy one or two extras of every gun if you want to be 100% certain - even stuff like LMGs and GLRs that you only generally need one of. On top of that, repairs are another cost in and of themselves. So it ramps up your expenses by a ton if you want to be foolproof and resource gains aren't tuned upwards to account for it, so it just ends up feeling like a layer of pure RNG in the strategy layer that can only be circumvented by spending ridiculous amounts of resources on stuff that isn't actually progress. They're a resource sap that doesn't feel fun nor rewarding, and most importantly, not balanced.

>inb4 casual
I played through an entire I/I run with it, and it was one of the very few difficulty-adding features I couldn't get behind simply because it felt like a cheap way to artificially draw out the gear crawl which is already an enormous part of the game. It also punishes you for using biotanks properly.

>>162036786
I hope so too, I guess I'll have to finish up this balance at some point, and then I'll be happy to do some campaignposting! I miss when there were a few storyposters who dropped in and out. Gave everybody something to talk about when there weren't any big mod releases happening

I guess I'll disable reapair cost then, thanks for the advice
also should I disable the DLCs missions?
>>
>>162038514
DLC missions are divisive. I like them and keep them on because of how rewarding they are, making them feel like more of a calculated risk than anything, but I can see why people would dislike them. If you manage them you're at a massive advantage for the rest of the campaign (earlygame fusion core, free soldiers and tons of resources) and if you don't - because they are probably the most difficult missions in the game - then your campaign is fucked. So they're a huge risk and an RNG fuckfest, but also fun, challenging and rewarding to play.
>>

>>162039871
You didn't play EW Impossible, did you? Legendary may not be piss-easy but it's manageable, you just have less leeway for mistakes than other difficulties

>>162039954
Definitely play vanilla first. If you like it, do yourself a massive favor and play Long War then. If you were to start LW right away I'm fairly sure you'd just be turned off by not understanding anything that's going on, it assumes you've got a fairly good grasp on EW's mechanics right from the get-go.

Okay so I seem to have made the mistake of getting this game on Xbox while the bundle was on sale.

So probably around 12 hours in and suddenly no matter what I do, after two turns my turns won't end anymore. Restarting everything doesn't work, reloading an old save doesn't work, and just starting a new game it still happens. If I have to lose all my progress and reinstall the game I doubt I'll ever have the patience so that's out.

So am i just fucked now and might as well have set 40$ on fire or does anyone here have a fix for this?

I've changed it up each campaign but as of right now I'd say:

Modern military stuff (Cod packs, the Xcom vanilla T1) for initial Tier1 armor.
Titanfall or ODST/marines for late T1 or early T2
Spartan Armor for late T2 or early T3
Stenchfury Modular / WAcustomgear + vanilla body armor but new helmets for T3.

Alternatively if you want to go more near-future cyberpunk I'd do:
T1 -Titanfall, Blacklight helmets, ODST armor
T2 -Spartan Armor for T2 (it's heavier, bulkier, not smooth and streamlined)
T3 -Stenchfury Modular/WA custom gear/Cabnbubs/Xcom EW ported T3 armor

Goal being T1 is cyberpunk, T2 is 'realistic near future space marine', T3 is 'far future space marine'. Pic related is T3 Xcom EW ported.

Personally I find it really hard to not use Titanfall gear at every tier. It just looks too damn good.

My style is to assign my troops to different sets, for a lack of better words. Some using Titanfall stuff, some using vanilla stuff, some using tacitcool CoD stuff, ect. Goes a long way to making the resistance feel like it's composed of different groups.

I have 1 turn on a train hack, tried blowing up the walls of the train car but no dice, are they invincible or do they have an HP pool?

I blowed up a train's walls to make the hack accesible before, so no they're not invincible. Perhaps a grenade is not enough though, I'm sure I was using a rocket

i go with vanilla stuff for t1 (cod and titanfall ports have pretty low quality

all these t3 armor mods look just as bad as vanilla. i guess i go with odst for t3, iam not really happy with it but it doesnt look as bad (i just want something tacticool)

Yeah I can dig that. I dont' follow a hard and fast rule with the tiering. If I knew where to begin modding wise I'd do the LW treatment and expand the 3 armor tiers to 5 or 6. Yet that would deprive us of the chance to choose and pick our preferred AESTHIC.

>>162066804

Well if you can describe what you want from power armor we can see if there's something out there for you. Not sure if you want space marines from 40k or what. Since you said tacticool I guess yeah ODST, Halo marines and Titanfall are best for you. Don't be afraid to mix and match if the general saturation/brightness and models more or less fit.

Alternatively use Advent armor for T3. Or xcom tier 2 ported armor.

Firaxis really hit it on the head with the T3 armor in EW/EU. I think the Tier2 with accessories was pretty good too but I loved how bulky, thicc and full the power armor looked in EW/EU vis-a-vis Xcom2.

Compare >>162065768 and pic related.

It's a good mod, the problem with it being that it doesn't let you have any agency in it's choices.

While it has the positives of not allowing you to min-max your soldiers into Mary Sues and it works wonders if you don't have a Character Pool or just have it for the sake of having cool blanks, it can really screw your roleplaying potential.

Anon it's not a dick move unless there's an expected requirement to do otherwise. To 'not be a dick'.
There is no such expected requirement for uploaders to meet.
They do not have to upload anything, they do not have to finish series. They do not need to be consistent or give explanations.
They don't need to do shit.

The fact you think it's a dick move implies you think there IS an expected requirement for him to meet.
Which again, there is not.
Which makes you an entitled shit for having unjustified expectations.

I finished the attachments for the Conventional Hunter Rifle, 3 of them are taken from the sniper rifle, the scope, the laser sight and the repeater.

Textures still aren't completely finished, needs some touching up here and there, i still haven't touched up the textures of the main rifle either.

Anyway from top to bottom left to right the pictures are: No attachments, Laser sight, Scope, Expanded Magazine, Hair Trigger, Expanded Magazine again, Autoloader, Stock and Repeater.

The magnetic and plasma versions should be faster, a lot of time went into the texture for this thing but magnetic and plasma weapons have very simple textures. Unfortunately there's still other things to do so this is still going to take forever.
>>
>>161936047

>If it were to function like you're thinking, marking/holotargeting on successful hits, visually I'd give it a larger optics package- a big fat scope with antennas n shit. So it can transmit that targeting data autonomously to the rest of the squad.

I might add some antennas, actually i think i thought about doing that, and then i didn't because i guess i forgot or something. But it should be simple to make an antenna and some stuff with a tiny tiny tiny texture and just slap it in there, i don't want to add more "big" things to do to the list because this is already taking forever.

>And, there'd have to be a big tradeoff to avoid it being OP too (unless you intend for it to be used with difficulty mods).

Well nothing is set in stone when it comes to the balance stuff, right now i haven't even set how much damage they do, in either way that can easily be changed once the mod is out and people can tell me if something is broken or underpowered.

there is a trend amongst youtubers which beagle seems to follow.
at first he makes really good edited, short videos. like some of beagles first xcom series. short videos that takes alot of effort and editing to make.
then he goes over to live videos very little editing and then just upload.
and then he goes over to twitch. no uploading, no editing, no effort and probably still alot of money.

i think he was just too lazy too upload it (thats why is never explaining why he stopped) and now he need money and thats why he is uploading again. thats my theory.
>>
>>162085259
Are the damage scanners worth it? They're so cheap but I feel the yellow things over the UFO already tell you how bad it is
>>
>>162097390
But your timeline is completely wrong. Mine wont' be 100% accurate either, but it will be closer.

>short, tightly edited videos XCOM1
>long unedited videos focused on being instructional for playing long war
>Also streaming Long War at the same time
>then vids stop
>a few random games, tightly edited
>Tightly edited X2 vids
>X2 streams
>long light editing X2 vids
>vids dry up
>Xcom streams dry up
>Tightly edited Doom vids
>Return of X2 and Long war vids.

He's all over the place.
>>
>>162097390

I doubt beagle was just sitting on fully complete edited videos and just not uploading them while also not streaming for most of the time

Unless he was living in some kind of hole with no internet connection what seems likely is that he simply wasn't doing anything to do with xcom and might've been doin other shit.

It really doesn't seem that deep.

Where did I call it cheating? I'm just not enjoying how much luck is involved when runs can last upwards of ten hours pretty easily and there's no way to savescum if I get fucked towards the end of one by it.
>>
>>162099254
The part where you want to cheat to win. Classic is easily winnable by someone proficient in XCOM on ironman. (t.me).
And the truly good can beat impossible. The problem is you are getting hit, which you can reduce if you play well. Abuse overwatch traps, break los, and hunker more.
>>
>>162099183
Is it actually possible to consistently avoid being shot at at all? With the whole 'free turn when found' thing they've got going on, I find it fairly common to not be able to take out every alien in a single turn when I find them.
>>162099461
I guess I'll just turn down the difficulty from impossible and try on normal or something then.
>>
>>162099254

I mean, I actually personally find Long War to be a lot fairer (both ways) than vanilla.

More (and earlier) access to guaranteed damage, cover destruction, multiple shots, support grenades, holotargeting, lightning reflexes, suppression and shotguns all add up to create a game I felt a lot more in control of things, and when I fucked up I was severely punished.

The only thing I can answer with, is if neither the enemies nor you could crit, then you'd be looking at a pretty boring game that might end up nerfing you more than the aliens.

Like, impossible EW is kind of fucking bullshit, and I'll fully admit that it's probably more difficult than normal or classic LW, especially early on
>>
>>162099671
>playing on impossible
Kek dude, at least get one playthrough under you belt instead bashing your head into a wall. No shame in having difficult with impossible.

I do wonder how Beagle makes his money, even though I know it's none of my business. Probably a lot to do with his Patreon
>>
>>162104348

>Unless the youtuber is piediepie-levels of popular, (50million followers with a cartload of subscribers), they're practically hobbyists.

That's a somewhat large exaggeration.

Unless you have at least a quarter of a million with hundreds of thousands of views on each video AND also probably twitch streaming + donations you're not making much money, but people do make pretty significant amounts of money from youtube even at medium tier levels.

There's countless 'full time' content creators that hover around the 250k-1mill subscriber count, but the only way to actually make that work is to spend basically your entire life streaming or editing videos.

Patreon earns a lot of people tons of dosh too

However, the superior way to earn money is to produce clickbait and get millions of views on dumb lazy shit.
>>
>>162098153
No, they're for the autists who didn't like the yellow clues and preferred to mod in their own damage meter. JL threw them a bone by adding it as a foundry project but even at that price it's very low-priority.

to clarify, most people doing youtube 'full time' are not earning great wages, but they DO work from home/be their own boss, so i can see why it might be attractive to people

I used MGS military clothing mixed with Xcom EU and Xcom 2 kevlar for tier one.

Then I started using Kevlar mixed with Xcom EU Tier 2, russian titanium helmets and capnbub's stuff for carapace armor.

Then when it came to warden armor I started using shit like EU Tier 3, Titanfall gear and some ADVENT armor.

My logic was kinda, at first Xcom basically has fuck all, best strategy is don't get shot, and if you do get shot you probably end up dead.

Then, as you reverse engineer ADVENT armour and acquire more materials, you get thicker, heavier armours, crudely put together metal plating, alloy and ceramic padding, that kind of bulky shit.

But then, when you get warden armour, that heavy unwieldiness should start to drop away to mechanised, powered armour designed to be agile and flexible. Simple metallic armour almost seems kind of lame at this point, that shit's for barbarians, this isn't just alloy plating, this is an entire armour system designed to operate as a piece of powered equipment

The issue with sparks is "why bother?"

They're good, but you can replace them with any other type of unit and their flexibility and usefullness would sorely outclass a spark.

Then you have the investment to get it to be in a decent shape to do anything.

So what, do you buff it or give it more amazing perks?

That would already skew the lategame curbstomp even more.

E3245?

Anyone figure out what mod is interfering with the Spark's ability to be repaired? I can put them on repair but the status is not updated in the Armory so they sit in repair forever without actually regaining HP.
>>
>>162140901
Nope. Negativz.
>>
>>162127126
I still really fucking want this.
But at the same time it wouldn't feel right using small squads in a turn based setting. It'd feel a lot better as a kind of grand strategy/tactical setting moving hundreds or thousands of troops at a time.
>>
>>162140901
Any chance you're using the old It's Just A Scratch?
>>
>>162141382
No unfortunately.

I've been going down the list trying to deactivate mods but haven't found a clue so far. I'm not sure if I need to start a new campaign and all that also
>>
>>162141438
Best guess is that it's either SPARK related or health related.

I can tell ya that Wound Recalibration and Metal Over Flesh are not the cause if you're using those.

Good luck with that, I know too well how fucking annoying it is trying to find a mod that's breaking your game.

I'm considering just starting from vanilla and only adding on aesthetics, music mods, and voice packs. No long war toolbox or anything that interferes with UI and armoy sections.

Technically people could maybe already rip the models from Mechwarrior Online. Even if that's not possible, that mod Mechwarrior Living Legends had good models and textures that could be ported over for Xcom. However, I don't know if all Battletech mechs would look good with the Spark animation and skeleton. If some of the more humanoid looking ones worked though, I would love to replace the ugly looking Sparks with Griffins and Atlases.

I'm using the mod loader and the fix on 2k says to launch it from steam and not the taskbar, which isnt helpful.
>>
>>162157916
Are you using the alternative mod launcher? If not, use the alternative mod launcher. Hover over the settings tab, select edit and add the argument -NoRedScreens to the "arguments" section of edit. That should fix it.

>>162045174
Yeah, I've had that happen in my campaign but I just rationalized it as the turrets having shitty downwards rotation on the axis they spin on. Didn't consider it a bug. D'ya reckon I should take it out of the modlist?

I'm late to conversation, which program are you using to launch the game? If steam, you have to add those arguments to the game's steam settings. I never used alternate launcher but if you're using something else to launch the game those arguments aren't going to help
>>
>>162159957
That sounds like exactly what NoRedScreens should fix. Try entering it into the Steam launch arguments thing too via their settings maybe? And verify integrity while you're at it if you haven't already

This redscreen, does it say something? Like this?

If it does then try launching Xcom2 from the normal mod launcher and with no arguments on the steam launch options thingy. If you still get redscreens then i dunno what the fuck.
>>
>>162163121
yeah thats it but it flashes
>>
>>162163107

XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
>>
>>162163150

That's weird, normally a redscreen error is supposed to help debug things, so it tells you stuff and it doesn't go away until you press escape, at which point if there's another error that happens after the first one then another redscreen pops up.

I've never seen a flashy one. But if your redscreen says redscreen error and says stuff then there is nothing wrong with your PC, there's something wrong with your game or a mod. I don't use the alternative mod launcher, so the only thing i can think of is that maybe the "-NoRedscreens" thing is also making it flash.

In any case, worst case scenario you have a broken mod or you need to verify integrity of game cache or something, i dunno. All i can tell from this:

>>162161748

Is that the problem is with some mod that modifies loot or something.
>>
>>162126816
I've been fond of the idea that xcom 3 will take place after the victory in EW, then go the path of terror from the deep.

>buying personnel from the blackmarket
NO.
At the very least, buy alloys/elerium/supplies, sell the alloys/elerium, and buy from HQ instead.
Black market rips you off with personnel.

HQ sells them for ~200 supplies.
90 intel, the cost of personnel before bonuses, could buy you 30-50 alloys, 30-50 elerium, & 100+ supplies. Alloys & elerium are 3 & 5 supplies each, (before bonuses). So that's another 90-150 & 150-250 supplies, x1.5 if you sell when they're in-demand.

The cost of buying personnel at the blackmarket is 350-700 supplies each (in intel).

Well, uh. Good luck with that.

The problem with redscreens is that you can't know if they actually mean anything if you're not the guy who made mod X that is causing redscreen Y. A lot of those errors could be harmless.

The weirder thing is that the redscreen error is showing up at all, sorry man i dunno.

Not created equal and Hidden potential, do they affect mobility of soldiers?
>>
Reinforcements on Guerilla ops are kind of bollocks. The shits will drop in about a turn's worth of movement away and you have to backtrack to deal with them. Going forward isn't an option because there's always a pod by the objective and you'll just end up sandwiched between the two.

>>
>>162168816

For some reason vanilla doesn't display a mobility stat, pretty dumb. But yeah, how described them is how they work in XCOM1,
I would argue that not created equal makes vanilla straight up easier since you can hire pools of rookies and bring in super high aim soldiers.
