Sorry to tell you m8, but Australia's bonus is meh, and the airgame is hell. As other anon noted, France is best bonus. Also I can confirm Nigeria is fun because going fast is fun, but if you do it you will be ruined forever. Your soldiers will feel so slow if you don't have the mobility bonus. I start Nigeria every-time even though I really want to win and I know it's technically not the best.

All soldiers have the same amount of ability points. Different stats cost different amounts of ability points and have minimum and maximum amounts, aimcap being 70, movement cap being 16 and so on. Whenever a soldier is generated, their points are spent randomly on different stats. In practice, 5 ability points will translate to a ridiculously tiny stat gain. It's still good because it might give you one extra mobility, three extra aim etc but it doesn't come anywhere near the big dogs. It's mid-high tier.

Of Long dong's classes Shinobi feels the weakest for me. Their main value is just as a scout and a forward observer. Assault is GOAT for cqc, sharpshooter is good, gunner is weaker than one of the smaller mod's gunner classes which was absurdly OP (You were basically an MG42 nest. Every suppression perk you can think of and every overwatch perk so you could shoot and kill 2 enemies on your turn, then because you didn't move go into overwatch and shoot and 1hit KO 3 more enemies.)

Ranger is infantry and is nice and reliable. Grenadier is Grenadier and solid.

the fact shinobi and assault couldn't alternatively use pistols kind of irritated me

the thing i liked most about the escalation scout class and luru's infantry/gunner classes was the inclusion of pistol sidearms, as well as the choice of sword.

often, while melee is cool, i feel pistols are pretty great with their close range bonus but don't require point blank range to benefit

What if Shinobi functioned more like the Rogue class from that other mod? Forward observer that can actually slap some debuffs on enemies/buffs on teammates without breaking concealment is very powerful, especially with a perk that reduces detection range.

6th mission is a large, touched down UFO. Killed 16 aliens and at least 12+ more left to kill before I aborted that shitshow. Somehow this is more realistic, 6 soldiers with shitty weapons killing 30+ aliens than 4 soldiers steamrolling missions back to back. I'm fighting fucking chrysallids, outsiders with 10 health +regen, a dozen thin men and their shitty poison, and sectoids, and it hasn't even been long enough to even start researching laser weapons.

Escalation, there you go. And yeah part of me wouldn't mind seeing pistols with ammo for all classes (or any without a sword) so you get that feeling of being able to respond if you are shit out of ammo. Fucking escalation gunner though that shit was pure sex in class form.

But I was always iffy on pathfinder/scout back in LW1 so I think it just doesn't jive with my class style. I tend to play like I do in a strategy game with a solid fat base of fire like I'm a WW1 general.

I didn't turn on either of the "narrative content" missions anon, I chose not to afford myself that luxury. My previous run on Commander had taught me it wouldn't do anything on the Alien Activity turn so I thought I could cheese it a bit by just ending my turn when I wouldn't be able to do anything else effective with the rest of my turn, but then it goes and runs to cover before proceeding to tongue grab or freeze or shoot at one of my soldiers anyways.

Combat Medic as a sub-in for the Hackerman on missions with chrysalids and/or missions where hacking isn't much of a concern (no mecs/objectives).

Okay maybe they are too bullshit, even if they required a no item slot suit to help keep them stable because Shen and Tygan can't hold them together long as they lack the Elders knowledge while also being limited to unmoddable tech leveled assault rifles

I sincerely doubt that 70% of anons hate X2 (and neither does Beags), it's just that we've begun thirsting for a Long War-degree overhaul to it. Properly modded, X2 becomes far superior to vanilla EW. It just needs more depth and complexity on the strategy layer.

I agree, it sterilized things too much. SPARK became an afterthought like a marriage of shiv and MEC but losing the charm/purpose of either, psi-op becomes a kind of mid to late game nuke you just sit on and wait to go super saiyan. Any idea I come up with for what I'd want in the expac would really just be a repeat of EW's Genemodding and MECs, maybe just with deus ex style augmentation instead of gene modding. That idea then made me think what if you biologized the MEC concept? How would that work? Maybe conscious-transferring from a human soldier to a captive alien? Limited to Sectoid, Muton, Snake, Andromedon. Discovery of some imprisoned friendly ayy species (not fucking snakes) but that would repeat the horizontal rather than verticalness of SPARKs and Psi-Ops.

More aggressive style of gene modding? Rather than just a two-tier system make it a choice of which species [Muton, sectoid, snake, possibly a new species. Not Andromedeons though] you are quarter-hybridizing. A Sectoidified soldier gets larger eyes and looks halfway like a hybrid advent trooper, a snakized soldier gets scales and snake-eyes and a pseudo snout, a mutonized soldier gains their orange fire-eyes, dappled pink skin with some of the ridgelines and a great increase to muscularity/girth. They could maintain their initial class (Psi-ops are not allowed) with an adjacent 4 level two-choices-per-level hybrid tree, but it might be easier to make them a bonafied class on their own a'la MEC. But you're encouraged to hybridize them at a higher level like you were with MECs.

If going with the hybrid is their own class:
Sectoidized: Tree is divided into offensive or defensive psionics? Or damage vs utility?
Snakized: Tree is divided into utility or mobility.
Mutonized: Tree is divided into damage or tankiness.

Snakized: Abilities like "Leave no Xcom behind" (A tongue-grab on your allies. You can use it to pull someone out of a dangerous position, you could hop up onto a building and pull your sniper up there), the ability to move up walls, a choice of venom-spitting cloud or smoke-spitting cloud, "reflective or strenghtened scaled flesh" (Former gives an aim penalty for 1 turn to any enemy that shoots at you, former is a flat survivability increase), "Coiled Muscle-grab" (If you are adjacent to any advent or sectoid sized opponent you can attempt to grab them and use them as a human shield for 1 turn. This makes any enemy that shoots at your unit damage the grabbed opponent instead of you. You let go of them if they survive at the end of the next alien turn).

Mutonized is a human MEC. Abilities like linebacker breaking through walls, "interference" (if an enemy tries to melee a friendly unit within X tiles, the Muto-Hominid effectively challenges/distracts the enemy who then beelines for the Muto-Hominid. Said Muto-Hominid gets a free melee attack before the enemy melees them - if the enemy survives), satchel-charge (increased damage/range on hand-grenades assuming for a larger size being carried), "Fix-bayonets" (A straight line pseudo-berserker charge which melees anything between it and the final position). Carries SPARK grade weapon.

Sectoidized would need to be distinguished from a plain jane psi-op. Either a sectoidized soldier could be better at psionics but worse at regular combat (but who uses a psi-op to shoot?), or a sectoidized soldier is better at combat but not as good at psionics. I think the latter works - whatever advantage a hybrid sectoid mind/genetics offer is mitigated by the fact that it's always a foreign entity you've accepted into your body. A pure human will go further with psionics but take longer. So a sectoidized soldier has no permanent mind control - either just psi-roulette falling on MC or a dedicated MC but only 2 turns. No psionic lance, no void rift. Mindspin (disorient, panic, mind control) can be a free-action ability with a 3-4 turn cooldown or standard not-free ability with 3 turn cooldown. Soulfire, inspire, 'blow up the enemy's explosives' ability. "Psionic-targeting" (bonus to aim/crit chance on any psionic enemy or enemy suffering from a psi-attack), another interference ability perhaps where any psi-attack on an ally in X tiles has the psionic check against the Sectoidized soldier instead of the targeted ally, "psi-vision" (see glowing silhouette of any psi-dedicated unit in the fog of war (sectoid, codex isn't technically but does use a psi-ability and I assume psi-controlled, Gatekeeper)

Yeah it's definitely going far off the deep end of gene modding. I feel like it's what might have happened if the doctor would have been successful in her experiments.

I am more for mec or augs than I am gene modding but I kinda like the craziness of the idea, going to see if I can shoot off an email to firaxis on the off chance it catches their attention. I doubt it will but no harm in it.


I guess the other question is to look at Xcom TFTD and Xcom Apocalypse and see from precedence what could be done. Hybrids are an option they can easily work with (finding some rogue advent troopers) but it continues the horizontal rather than vertical aspect and just gives you a single semi-psi semi-trooper kind of option. Androids are another option and one I had been more amenable to before that genemodding extreme concept. Rather than 100% android which is too advanced for Xcom2 given Sparks are the cutting edge, make it just more advanced MEC-ing. Rather than just chop off limbs and interface with a giant suit make it Adam Jensen tier tech.

It wouldn't be a class in itself but like gene modding. A tradeoff would be that you can't use bluescreen rounds or emp grenades as an augmented soldier because of localized interference with your augmentations. And because in my mind the expac would have a rogue AI/Terminator situation with a third faction this would mean if you stacked your squad with 100% psionics and augs, you'd suddenly not be able to gg-no-re against them. And maybe while augs would be able to choose an immunity to mind-control ability they would be vulnerable to a hacking action by one of the AI/terminator units

MECs are very expensive, so you keep that in mind. Also remember that gene modding competes with you MEC costs and increases fatigue time for your soldiers.

Pretty much any soldier not going MEC or becoming psi are good candidates for Genemodding.

Yes, that was my understanding.
Use the ranger (singular) to scout the first couple pods while your squad gets in position to engage.
Spring the first ambush, prepare an OW trap for the second and spring it with squadsight.
Around the 3rd pod pick the biggest baddest xeno and concealment-kill him with your ranger so that they get experience too.
Conceal, scout the last two pods, rinse/repeat previous OW strat if applicable.

Yeah man, the perks are on the same branch for a reason. Give them a shotgun with +AIM in the early game and they can land a shotgun crit on exposed enemies halfway across the map.
Which in the late game will proc implacable/untouchable, throwing a wrench in the Ayy's plans when you pop their concealment.

They don't need run-n-gun if every engagement is a squadsight overwatch trap.
Meanwhile, they provide much better (but more focused) intel than scanners.

My specialists pack nanomedkits instead of scanners, so they can handle the odd bout of return-fire.

Eeh yeah. They can't carry items, you can't mod their weapons, they can't use PCSs, and they have less health at max-rank with only 1 extra armor compared to a tanky soldier.
Not to mention they're inaccurate AF.

Still useful as mobile heavy-cover heavy-weapons platforms, and their overdrive gives them just enough utility to be maybe worth bringing.

Guess that's true. I still have that feel of X2 being big on the "kill everything your turn or you will prob severely get wounded or have someone killed" but that may be false memory. I just never remember getting crit in full cover not being flanked or hell even much of any crits in half-cover at a distance but they happen way too damn often now.

And I swore I was already running a mod that fixed that "if the chance to hit is low the chance to crit is high" bug.

Killing isn't that difficult if you have the luxury of focus fire.

Especially in LW, even with the massively buffed sectopods, you can use close quarters MEC tanking, EMP, MEC CQC (2 punches a turn), HEAT warheads and HEAT gunners, acid grenades.

An acid grenade follwed by a shredder HEAT warhead into the sectopod and his buddies can usually clear everything other than the debuffed mech, which you're left to disable, EMP or just nuke if you're powerful enough.

You'll have to do some ini editing for the various other enemy mods you have (exact information is on the ABA2 page) or else reinforcements won't be showing up (you'll be seeing drop ships dropping nothing) but otherwise they should work just fine.

Hope you got the Black ICE Codex mod. It's pretty magnificent, especially when a bunch of them show up at once

So we have the Titanfall skins, but how long until someone puts in the effort to straight up make Titans? I imagine it'd be hard to code a unit that allows you to put another unit inside of it, and especially hard to code it as going from a friendly AI when you're not manning it to an actual unit when you are. Might almost have to say No Eject, Titan is an armor slot exosuit with three heavy abilities and a specialized gun.
The more I think about it the more complications pop up.
The perfect Titan would sit in your barracks and be called into the map via Grenade marker, at which point it'd be a friendly AI unit until you walk over to it and use the Enter command. Then your soldier would take over control and you'd get access to all of it's abilities (no idea how you'd do the core. Single use per mission?)
It'd also be cool if when the Titan is destroyed, you can eject safely and it gives the pilot a smart pistol for just that mission that has something like +30 Aim

Not as hard as you'd think, there's already a mod that lets you summon units from the avenger, the item you get from researching the Riftkeeper lets you do that, so that part of the code is already done.

Now you just need code to limit so it can only summon those that are class X(in this case, a Titan), and then you need code to make it play on your side even if you don't control it, that code also exists in the friendly ai mod, and i believe it might already be built into the game by default if i remember correctly, the game supports around 4 teams right now, team 0 is you, team 1 is ayylmao, team 3 and 4 are something else, one must be civvies and then i dunno about the other.

So now you just need code to lose a soldier to take control of the titan, i dunno how you can do that but since both the Andromedon and Faceless can turn into different units it might not be that hard.
